Photos: From Washington, Steve Hawley's annual Patriot Trip

By Howard B. Owens

Assemblyman Steve Hawley is in the midst of his annual Patriot Trip to Washington, D.C., with a group of residents from his district. He sent us these pictures.

Below, a group shot and a shot of some of the travels with Hawley and Rep. Chris Collins.

This is nice... but feel good politics don't get it done. I hope that Assemblyman Hawley will get back to serious business. #1 is the Constitutional infringement of the NY SAFE Act.

Assemblyman Hawley was real quick to make a major media splash immediately following the SAFE Act passage, and said that he was going to have an initiative on the ballot in November to ask how many NYers were in favor of dividing downstate and upstate into two separate states. [I remember explicitly... heard him talking on the radio WBEN about it]. I thought this was an excellent idea to pursue [I feel that many of the downstate progressives would welcome being rid of upstate, just as much as we would them]. Then, as is so often the case with political "talking points... rhetoric", nothing more has been forth coming on this proposition... ???

I'd like to start by saying, in my opinion, Assemblyman Steve Hawley is an amazing man and veteran, with a long line of politics in his family. I learned SO much this past weekend. I was absolutely thrilled to get to know him better on this years Patriot Trip!

If you think Mr. Hawley (and I'd like to include Eileen and Jayleen here too) were on "vacation" like the rest of us, that couldn't be further from the truth. They were always the last to sit, to eat, and to retire at the end of each day!

I don't imagine it's easy to organize and accommodate over 100 people (with different needs and abilities) to do anything, much less be on a rigorous schedule with appointments set up in advance.

If you, sir, don't understand the importance of honoring the veterans of our Country, perhaps YOU should go on next years annual Patriot Trip, as you have a lot to learn. I, for one, will never forget the experience we all had at Arlington National Cemetary.

Lastly, I'd just like to say that I don't think I could ever have seen and done as much as we did without the help of Assemblyman Hawley. THANK YOU Steve, for all you do, from the bottom of my heart!
