Today's Poll: Do you think it's important to grow food close to where it's consumed?

Growing the food close to where it's consumed makes sense on so many levels. Two points that come to mind are: 1. It's good for the local economy because we're not sending our money to other places or other countries. 2. From a "green" standpoint, transporting any product long distances consumes fuel. If we can grow corn, beans, cabbage, beets, taters, onions, beef..etc locally, It's a win-win all the way around. BUY LOCAL!

Also depending on other states or other countries food, can result in the problem of introducing foreign pests & diseases in to your area. The costs to eradicate, quarantine etc can reach millions of dollars depending on the severity of the infestation. Good example is Florida's citrus industry.
