Mary E. Bolenda

Mary E. Bolenda, 91 of Batavia passed away July 1, 2013 at the United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. She was born January 26, 1922 in Batavia to the late Harry (Margaret Halpin) Boucher. Mrs. Bolenda graduated from Batavia High School in 1939, and from Rochester Business Institute in 1940. She was employed at Genesee Monroe Racing Association for 35 years retiring in 1987 as office manager. She was very active having been a member for 62 years in the Catholic Daughters of America, Bereavement Committee of Resurrection Parish, St. Jerome Guild, Catholic Charities Drives, Batavia Business and Professional Women, Elections Inspector and a Republican Committee Member for the Town of Stafford. She bowled for a number of years on the Batavia Downs Bowling Team. She is preceded in death by her husband Alfonso Bolenda who she married on January 26, 1948 at St. Mary’s Church; sisters Harriett Hunt and Catherine Conklin.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews.   

Friends are invited to call on Friday July 5, 2013 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc. 329-333 West Main Street Batavia, New York 14020. Prayers will be recited at 11:30 AM on Saturday July 6, 2013 at the Funeral Home followed by a 12:00 Noon Mass of Christian Burial at Resurrection Parish 18 Ellicott St. Batavia, New York 14020. Entombment will take place at St. Joseph’s Mausoleum, in Batavia.
