Joseph Robert Corona

Darien Center - Joseph Robert Corona, 71, passed away at the Wilmot Cancer Center at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY on Saturday, July 30, 2016.

He was born in Batavia on August 16, 1944, to Joseph and Lucy (DiSalvo) Corona.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Joan McDonald; three children, Joseph Corona (Spouse) of Batavia, Mark Corona of Darien Center and Nicole Corona (Derek) of N. Tonawanda; the light of his life, his grandson Kyle Sadlocha.  He is also survived by a sister, Florence (Nicholas) Pascucci of Stafford; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister Joan (Nate) Mancuso and 2 brothers, Vincent (Carol) Corona and Patrick (Norma) Corona and a nephew Stephen Mancuso

Joe was a very proud Marine who served at numerous assignments, one of which was Seoul South Korea where his wife joined him.  After his discharge, he worked for the NYS Department of Corrections at Attica for 27 years. 

In his younger years, he earned his pilot's license and enjoyed flying with his father in their planes.  Another pastime as spent in his boat on Lake Ontario.  For the past 10 years, he and his wife spent their winters at their home in Ft. Myers, FL.

Friends may call from 10 to 11:45 am on Thursday at Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia.  A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 12:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 18 Ellicott Street in Batavia.  Entombment will be in St. Joseph’s Mausoleum.
