Stafford - Mr. Charles Douglas Laird, 83, of Stafford, foreman for Graham Manufacturing in Batavia, died Thursday, June 17, 2010at his home in Stafford.
Mr. Laird was born May 1, 1927 in Johnsonburg, the son of the late Lloyd and Bessie Nutting Laird.
A graduate of Attica High School, he served with the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Mr. Laird was a member of the VFW, Graham Retiree's and a former member of the Stafford Fire Department. Mr. Laird also served as foreman at the former Jell-O Factory and at Doehler-Jarvis.
He enjoyed old cars and conversations, all types of animals and loved his grandchildren dearly.
His wife of 50 years, Marguerite Johnson Laird, died on May 15, 2000.
Survivors include three sons, Thomas (Kathy) Laird of Stafford, Kenneth (Debra) Laird of East Bethany and Douglas Laird of Philadelphia, Pa.; three daughters, Catherine (William) Plaisted and Nancy (Dale) Thompson, both of Stafford and Mary Beth (Ricky) LaVare of LeRoy; a daughter-in-law, Jeri Laird of LeRoy; ten grandchildren, Jodi, Michael, Scott, Kimberly, Brian, Justin and Katelyn Laird, Jeffrey Plaisted and Joseph and Kelsey LaVare; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Lucey of Rochester; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Crane and Sarah "Sue" Johnson, both of Batavia and several nieces and nephews.
He is the brother of the late Ellsworth Laird and was predeceased by his step-mother, Hazel Bauer Laird and four step-sisters.
There are no prior calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 5865 Ellicott Street Road, East Bethany. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. Burial will be in Johnsonburg Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Condolences may be made at www.bataviafuneralhomes.com.
