Francis E. Dahill, Ph.D.

Francis E.Dahill, Ph.D., age 74, of Akron died suddenly Thursday, (Oct. 13, 2011) at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital.

He was born in Hornell, NY on March 5, 1937, a son of the late Dr. Edmond and Lillian McGuane Dahill.

Surviving is his wife of over 47 years, Brenda E. (Dubiel) Dahill. His daughter, Christine Dahill of Akron and grand daughter Felicia Fortunato of Akron.

Fran was a psychologist for Maryvale Sr. High School in Cheektowaga for over 12 years prior to his retirment in 1999. Prior to that, he served for 20 years as guidance counselor at Maryvale.  He served on the Akron Central School Board for 3 years and was a member of the Budget Advisory and Strategic Planning Committees.

In his earlier years he served as an altar boy at his church and worked summers at Letchworth State Park.  He attended Alfred Tech, Oswego State and SUNY @ Buffalo having received his Masters in Education and Doctorate of Philosophy in Education.

In his leisure time he enjoyed playing guitar in Akron and Clarence Churches and participated in Folk Groups.  He enjoyed his family immensely as well living in his country home. Reading, woodworking, motor coach tours, and dancing were just a few of his many past times.  He was concerned about many aspects of society and how our society influences people's beliefs and behavior, committed to public education and its improvement.

His many memberships include, The Woodworkers Guild, WNY State School Psychologists Assoc., Phi Delta Kappa International, Epsilon Pi Tau, Niagara Frontier and NYS Reading Associations. He was active in the Newstead Historical Society and Newstead Senior Citizens.

Family and friends may call Sunday from 2 - 5 and 7 - 9PM at the J. LEONARD MCANDREW FUNERAL HOME, 32 JOHN STREET, AKRON.    A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10AM at St. Teresa of Avila RC Church, 5771 Buell St., Akron.
Please assemble at church.

Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery in Portageville, NY
