David L. Bates, Jr., 61 of Corfu, passed away suddenly on Friday (December 22, 2017) at his residence.

He was born February 1, 1956 in Buffalo, NY, a son of the late David L. Bates Sr. and Norma Goerke Bates of Akron.

David was a beloved son, grandfather, father, husband, uncle, and friend. He was a retired corrections officer from Attica Correctional Facility, where he was employed for over 28 years. He also served in the United States Navy Construction Battalions (better known as the Seabees) from 1974-1978.

Surviving besides his mother is his loving wife of 34 years, Christine Dylag Bates of Corfu. Children, David W. (Leslie) Bates of Brockport and Kimberly (Kyle) Hunt of Kenmore. Sister, Darleen (Richard) Maxwell of Batavia. Grandchildren; Eden, Henry and Dylan Bates and Zane Hunt. Also survived by several brother and sister in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends whom he adored.

He was the brother of the late Donna Tatro and Donald Bates.

Family and friends are cordially invited to share thoughts, condolences and memories on Tuesday (December 26th) from 3-8pm at the J. LEONARD MCANDREW FUNERAL HOME, LLC, 32 John St., Akron, NY.
