Arthur P. "Art" Leo

LeRoy ~ Arthur P. Leo, age 88, of Warsaw Road, passed away Saturday evening (October 24, 2020) at Strong Memorial Hospital in the presence of his loving family.

    

 He was born August 19, 1932 in Rochester, a son of the late Alfred and Cora Sager Leo.

     He was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, as well as a retiree of Rochester City Forestry/Parks and Recreation.

     He was a “ Staple” at LeRoy Tops Super Market and surrounding coffee shops!

     He is survived by his wife of 50 yrs, Dorothy Leo; daughters, Debi Trommer (Dave), Kim Gifaldi (John), Kim Mooney (Tom), Gigi Mattice (Butch), Dawn Myers (David) and son, Brian Leo (Nicole); 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

     In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Alfred James Leo III and his sister, Joan Root.

     Services and interment in Grove Place Cemetery are private.

​Brenda Lantz (Bartholomew)

Brenda Lantz, (Bartholomew), 57 of Gainesville passed away after a long battle with cancer on Thursday October 22, 2020. Brenda was born November 21, 1963 in Batavia, NY on November 21, 1963, to the late Frank and Josephine Bartholomew.

Brenda is survived by her daughter; Jennifer Beedham, brothers; Dennis Bartholomew and Frank Bartholomew Jr., and sister, Gloria Hair.  Several nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday October 27, 2020 at Alta Vista Cemetery, Dr. Bill Coates officiating. The family will receive from 11-12 p.m. at Little & Davenport Funeral Home. Those wishing to send online condolences to the family may do so at littledavenport.com

Ruth Irene Eick

Ruth Irene Eick, 94, of Corfu died Saturday morning, October 24, 2020 at Gateway Home of Attica. Ruth passed away in the presence of her family.  We cannot express enough gratitude to the staff of Gateway Home for their love and commitment to our family these past few weeks.

Born July 4, 1926 in Alabama, NY, Ruth was the daughter of LaVern and Edith (Brege) Gray. Ruth lived most of life in Alabama, NY. She was known for serving her community and neighbors with friendship, baked goods, and most importantly, love. For many years, Ruth enjoyed helping her husband, Bob with their business, Eick’s Bicycle Barn. She was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Batavia, NY.

Above all, Ruth’s greatest joy was caring for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She modeled the true meaning of patience, kindness, love, and motherhood.

Ruth is survived by daughters, Elaine (David) Wheatley of Delhi,  Diane Phelps of Corfu, and son-in-law Paul Schafer of Tallahassee, FL;  10 grandchildren, Summer (Dan) Forness, Grayden (Brittany) Schafer, Juliane (Paul) Hillis, Christina (David) Rheam, Peter (Kristin) Wheatley,  John (Amber) Wheatley, Joanna (Nathan) Hatch, Kyle (Lindsay) Phelps, Carrie Phelps, Lindsey (Ryan) Mating; and 17 great grandchildren along with many other loving friends and family.

Ruth was pre-deceased by husband, Robert in 2017 after 68 years of marriage, daughter Carol Jean Schafer (December 2017), and son in law, Paul Wesley Phelps (August 2015).

Friends may visit during calling hours on Sunday, November 1st from 2-4pm at the J. LEONARD McANDREW FUNERAL HOME, LLC, 2 Bogue Avenue, Batavia, NY. A private memorial service will be held for Ruth’s immediate family. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, social distancing rules will apply to both events. Ruth will be laid to rest at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in West Shelby, NY.

Joan Cole

Le Roy - Joan Cole, 85 of Le Roy passed away on Tuesday, (October 20, 2020) at Le Roy Village Green in Le Roy.

Mrs. Cole was born November 27, 1934 in Hume, a daughter of the late  Willard Ferris and Phoebe (Bailey) Ferris.

She enjoyed puzzle books, cooking, baking, traveling and spending time with her family.

Joan is the wife of the late Francis Cole who passed away in 2003; she is also the sister of the late Laverne Ferris and Beatrice Rosato.

Surviving are her children, Robert Cole of Le Roy and Thomas A. (Laura) Cole of North Carolina.  5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren also survive.

There will be no visitation.  Family and friends are invited to attend Joan's Graveside Service on Friday (October 30, 2020) at 1:00 pm in Portageville Cemetery on East Koy Road in Portageville.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Josephine A. Talone

Josephine  A.  Talone, 74,  of Batavia,  passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2020 at Rochester General Hospital.

Josephine was born Tuesday, August 20, 1946 in Rochester, a daughter of the late Thomas and Pauline (Almalfa) Giunta.

Josephine loved spending time with her family and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She enjoyed baking and cooking and was wonderful at both.

Surviving are her husband, Santo Talone, Jr. of Batavia; sons, Gregory (Katherine) Talone of Batavia and Jason (Kimberley) Talone of Batavia; grandchildren, Thomas Talone, Gianna Talone, Noah Talone, Alyssa Talone, Sarah (Vinny Monteleone) Bailey and Justin (Sarah) Bailey; great-grandchildren, Amelia Monteleone and Harrison Monteleone and several nieces and nephews.

Josephine is a sister of the late Marilyn Giunta and Joseph Giunta.

Services for Josephine will be held privately.

Virginia M. Mann

  Virginia M. Mann, 87, of Le Roy passed away peacefully on Saturday October 24, 2020 at Hildebrandt Hospice in Rochester. She was born on May 7, 1933 to the late Jacob and Cecilia (Hecht) Zeitvogel. In addition to her parents, Virginia is predeceased by her daughters; Karen Mann and Laura Gonzalez; brother Thomas Zeitvogel. 

Mrs. Mann worked for many years at Walmart in Batavia, most people would remember her greeting them as they walked in. She loved to travel and take day trips. She was an avid cook with a great sense of humor who loved spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. Virginia was a long time parishioner at Our Lady of Mercy Parish in Le Roy.

She is survived by her children; Donald (Joanne) Mann of Dansville, David (Karen) Mann of Dansville, Barbara (Rod) Bouchard of Pavilion and Charles Mann of Messa, AZ; brothers Charles (Veronica) Zeitvogel and William (Shirley) Zeitvogel; sister Mary Tanzer and sister in law Susan Zeitvogel; 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren, along with many nieces of nephews.

Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday October 28, 2020 from 4:00-7:00PM at Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc. 329-333 West Main Street Batavia, New York 14020. A Private Mass of Christian Burial will be held for the family. She will be laid to rest in St. Francis Cemetery in LeRoy.

Nancy L. Beck

Nancy L. Beck, 82 of Attica, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Friday, October 23, 2020 at home. She was born June 10, 1938 in Erie, PA to the late Vincent (Elizabeth Fromknecht) Trapp. She is preceded in death by son Tony Beck and sister Marjorie Parker.

Mrs. Beck enjoyed spending time at Stevens Memorial Community Library in Attica, traveling, cooking and baking. She worked for many years at Attica High School. Family was everything to her, she loved them all dearly.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 53 plus years, Carl H. Beck; children Vicki (Eric) Honour, Catherine Hooper, Terri (Warren) Peck, Cheryl (Joe) Fugle, Carla (Paul) Westermeier, Steve Beck, Paula (Jeffrey) Posster, Chris (Connie) Beck, daughter-in-law Kim Beck; sister Helen Brown; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild,  along with many nieces and nephews. 

There will be no prior calling hours and services will be held privately.

Mrs. Jean A. Richardson

Basom - Jean  A. Richardson, age 82, of Basom, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at United Memorial Medical Center.

Mrs. Richardson was born  February 18, 1938 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Walter Wickham and Gladys Parsons Wickham.

A graduate of Oakfield-Alabama Central School and the Highland School of Nursing in Rochester, Jean was a longtime member of the Alabama-Basom United Methodist Church where she was a member, past-president and former secretary of the United Methodist Women. She was also a member, former secretary and past-president for the ladies auxiliary of the Alabama Fire Department.  Jean enjoyed tending to her flower gardens, cross-stitching, gardening and baking, especially her snickerdoodle cookies. She loved spending time with her family, especially during the holidays and enjoyed shopping.

Jean is the wife of John Richardson who passed away on January 17, 2001.

She is survived by her children; Daniel (Pam) Richardson of Newport News, Virginia; Brian (Brenda) Richardson of Basom and Cindee (Victor) Azer of Bronx, New York; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; two brothers; Kenneth (Janet) Wickham of Illinois and Richard (Bonnie) Wickham of Virginia; and nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her son, Scot A. Richardson who passed away on July 31, 2012; her grandson, Christopher Tripodi who passed away in May of 2020 and her brother Ernest Wickham who passed away on August 23, 1979.

Edward J. Blaszak

LeRoy, NY ~ Edward J. Blaszak, age 77, of Church Street passed away at Wilmot Cancer Center at Strong Memorial Hospital on Saturday, October 24, 2020.

    

 He was born November 15, 1942 in Warsaw, New York, son of the late Felix L. Blaszak and Genevieve Cielepala Blaszak.

     Ed will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather who cherished the time he could spend with family and friends.  He loved traveling, especially cruising with good friends Paul and Joan Tresco, and visited over 40 countries.  He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and Buffalo Bills.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a Past Faithful Navigator of the 4th Degree. Ed was also very proud of his service to his country, having served with the U.S. Army. 

     He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 52 years, JoAnn; his children, Suzanne Blaszak, Amy (Jeff) Bartlett and his beloved grandchildren, Andrew, Ethan, Brody, and Brandon.

     In addition to his mother and father, he was predeceased by his brother, Felix Blaszak.

Kris E. Meyer

Kris E. Meyer, 41 of Varysburg, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw after a lengthy illness. He was born December 5, 1978 in Buffalo to Dennis (Brenda Metz) Meyer of Varysburg.

Kris worked alongside his family at Meyer Dairy Farms, LLC and loved taking care of the calves. He enjoyed music, especially playing drums, riding his four wheeler and teddy bears.  

Along with his parents Kris is survived by his siblings, Melanie (Rich) Chmylak of Greece; Chad (Jennifer) Meyer of North Java; Corey (Jamie) Meyer of Varysburg; Tammy (Scott Lina) Meyer of Elma; along with many nieces and nephews. 

Friends are invited to call on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at Holy Family Parish, 4316 NY-98, North Java, NY 14113 where a 12:00 Noon Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow. He will be laid to rest in St. Nicholas Cemetery, North Java.

Deborah D. Dutton

Batavia - Deborah  D.  Dutton, age 64,  of Batavia,  passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, following a brief illness.

She was born November 23, 1955 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Laverne and Olive Boyce Dutton.

She was currently employed at GCASA's Recovery Station in Batavia and attended Batavia City Church. An avid sports fan, she rooted for the Cleveland Browns, New York Yankees and Syracuse Orangemen and would often remark that if sports weren't on television, there was nothing to watch. She enjoyed gardening and during spring and summer would be found outdoors tending to her flower gardens. Deb enjoyed crafts, especially crocheting and could often be found at the local yard sales. 

Surviving are her sister, Christine (David) Rich of Batavia; her brother, Benjamin (Sharon) Dutton of Batavia; her nieces,  Amanda (Dan) Cragg of Batavia and Colleen (Jeremy) Riter of LeRoy; and her great-nephew, Matthew Cragg of Batavia. She will also be sadly missed by Lilly, her cat.

David Lee Eaton Jr.

Castile / Silver Lake ~ David Lee Eaton Jr., age 54, of Lake Shore Drive passed away at home on Tuesday (October 20, 2020).

    

He was born November 15, 1965 in Batavia, a son of David L. Eaton Sr. and the late Mary Jane Corcimiglia Walton.

     Dave will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather and brother, who cherished the time he could spend with family and friends.  He loved to fish on Silver Lake and also enjoyed hunting, gardening, canning and dealing in antiques.

     He will be sadly missed by his father, David Sr. of Batavia; his children, Kara (Bryan) Zavitz, Breanna Eaton and Jesse Eaton; his cherished grandchildren, Camden, Theodore and Javion; his siblings, Brenda (Jay) Osborn, Beth Eaton, Sue (Art) Logsdon, Brian (Giuliana) Walton, Mike Walton, Tom (Elba) Austin and Don (Patty) Austin; his children's mother and step-mother, Heidi Eaton, along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

     In addition to his mother, he was predeceased by his step-father, Thomas Walton.

Elva A. Draper

Pearl Creek ~ Elva A. Draper, age 93, of  Wyoming, N.Y., rejoined her husband in heaven on Saturday October 17, 2020.

    

She was born April 14, 1927 in Covington, a daughter of the late Harry P. and Adeline Murphy Weber.

     She married Ivan Draper on July 1, 1944 and together raised their four children.  Elva was predeceased by her husband, Ivan; son Larry Draper; siblings, Maurice, Harry, Elwood, Kenneth, John and Mary Eva Weber and grandchildren, Michael Draper, Christopher Draper and Colleen Sue Hinrich.

     She will be sadly missed by her children, Gordon (Sandy) Draper of Pavilion, James (Betty) Draper of Pavilion, Darlene (Kevin) Hinrich of Wyoming and daughter-in-law, Donna Draper of Cheektowaga; her siblings, Jacob Weber of Pavilion, William Weber of Albion, Genevieve Hint of Perry, Vera Pursel of Pavilion, June Leake of York and brother-in-law, Verner Draper of Fulton, N.Y. ; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Charles L. Earl

Rochester - Charles L. Earl, 52  of Rochester, formerly of Batavia, passed away on  September 28, 2020 at home in Rochester.

Mr. Earl was born June 7, 1968 in Rochester, a son of the late Bert C. Earl, Sr. and Shirley (King) Earl.

Chuck was a foodie and an amateur chef who enjoyed cooking for his family.  He was charismatic, charming, funny, and intelligent.  He deeply loved his family.

Surviving are his children, Damitre Dahl, Thailan Earl, and Xyla Earl; siblings, Bruce (Late Anne) Earl, Michael Earl, Suzanne (late Thomas) Pendleton, Bert C. (Cindy) Earl, Jr., and Rebecca (Jim) Smith.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

He is preceded in death by a daughter, Lyric Earl; brother, Richard Earl; and sister, Candy (late Andrew) Buck.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Earl Family.

Henry J. Brunea

Henry J. Brunea, passed away Oct.17, 2020 at the age  of 96 at the NYS Veterans Home in Batavia.  He was born Feb. 21, 1924 in the Town of Darien to Lambert and Anna (De Droog).  Henry served in the military during WW2 in the 342nd Armed Field  Artillery Battalion.  After his service, he worked various jobs and retired from General Motors Axle Plant in Buffalo after 35 years.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Indian Falls, NY, member of the Oakfield-Alabama Legion Post 626, 50 year member of the Alabama Fire Dept., member of VFW Post 1602 in Batavia, NY.  He was active in Boy Scouts, and served as cook at Camp Sam Wood in Pike, NY for many years.

Henry is survived by his wife Dolores (Poerschke) of 72 years, 3 sons; Michael of Fruitland Park, FL, Donald (Sharon) of Basom, NY, Scott of Basom, NY and 1 daughter Laurie (Harold) of Akron, NY, 5 granddaughters: Cassandra, Jennifer, Payadie, Erin and Ashley, 4 great-grandsons; Tyler, Andre, Keegan, and Chase, 3 great-granddaughters: Bianca, Alicia, Melissa, and 1 great great-grandson Dresden; his brother William (Irene) of Corfu, NY. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by brother John of France, and sister Wilhelmina Kovach of Florida.

Friends are invited to call 5-8 pm on Wed. Oct. 21, 2020 at C.B. Beach & Son Mortuary Inc., 4-6 Main St. Corfu, NY.  Funeral services will be held at 11 am Oct. 22, 2020 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Western New York National Cemetery at a later date. Due to Covid mandates, face coverings and social distancing will required.
