LOWRY C. STILES ~ Batavia 

Age 70, of Batavia, died peacefully Sunday May 20, 2018 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. He was born December 23, 1947 in Homer City, PA a son of the late Daniel and Dolly (King) Stiles also preceded in death by siblings, William, Frank (Lucille) Stiles, Patricia Neth and In-laws, Elaine (Carl) Brinkman.                                                                                       

Mr. Stiles was an electrician for the US Gypsum plant in Oakfield for over 30 years and a member of Resurrection Parish (St. Joseph's). He enjoyed bowling, fishing, trips to Black Lake, a Matt Kenseth NASCAR fan, Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres fan. Larry was a huge Elvis fan, he will be missed by his four legged companions, Dot & Noah with his greatest joy being his children and grandchildren. 

Surviving is his beloved wife of 49 years, Donna (Balduf) Stiles of Batavia; loving children, Amy (Sean Roberts) Stiles of Batavia, Stacey (Kris) Crossett of Maryland, Charles L. (Erin) Stiles of Batavia, Betsy (Tim) Abdella of Washington, DC; cherished grandchildren, Chelsea (James Shute) Stiles, Gavin & Noah Stiles, Cameron Crossett, Gabriella & Lauren Abdella; great-granddaughter, Amelia Presley; father-in-law, Loren (late Dorothy) Balduf of Stafford; siblings, Dale (Beverly) Stiles of Batavia, Jim Stiles of Pavilion, Ione Johnson of Batavia, Sylvia (James) Marble of Nunda, Donna (Ron) Johnson of Batavia, Lori (Greg) Baldwin of Holley; sister-in-law, Nancy Stiles of Batavia; brothers-in-law, Tom Neth of Batavia and David (Patricia) Balduf of SC along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Warsaw ~ Mary Lee Merrill, age 87, of Short Street, passed away on Sunday (May 20, 2018) at Strong Memorial Hospital in the loving presence of her family.

     She was born August 17, 1930 in Varysburg, a daughter of the late Raymond and Bernice Neyerlin Donnelly.

     Mary Lee was a loving wife and mother, who was devoted to her family.  She was a telephone operator for Rochester Telephone Company and eventually completed her working career as a secretary for Warsaw TV-Cable.

     She is survived by her daughter, Linda L. Merrill of Warsaw; her son, Robert (Karen) Merrill of Richfield, OH; her brother, John Donnelly of Varysburg; her sisters-in-law, Elsa Donnelly of Varysburg, Barbara Ewell of FL, Lori Merrill (Charlotte Hamon) of Warsaw and Patricia Merrill of LeRoy, along with many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald L. Merrill in 2016, her brother, James Donnelly, sister-in-law, Beverly Donnelly and brothers-in-law, Vincent Ewell, David Merrill, Roger Merrill, Norman Merrill, James (Diana) Merrill and Donald Merrill.

     Family and friends may call on Wednesday, May 23 from 3 ~ 7 PM at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake Road (Rt. 19 north), LeRoy, where services will be held at 7 PM.  Interment in the Warsaw Cemetery will be private.

ROGER K. HENDERSHOTT ~ Batavia 

Age 81, of Batavia, died peacefully Monday morning May 14, 2018 at Premier Genesee Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation. He was born December 21, 1936 in Batavia, NY a son of the late Louis W. and Lisa Hendershott also preceded in death by siblings, Doug, Laverne, Donald Hendershott and Betty Brumber.                                                          

Mr. Hendershott was a machinist for many years at the former Trojan Industries, and an avid hunter, fisher and enjoyed reading. 

Surviving is his beloved wife of 54 years, Carol (Berdy) Hendershott of Batavia; loving sons, John Hendershott of Batavia, Philip (Alice) Hendershott of Medina; cherished grandchildren, Daniel and Zachary; sisters-in-law, Annie and Pat Hendershott along with many nieces and nephews.

 Theresa J. Suozzi, 83, of Medina passed away peacefully on Thursday May 17, 2018 at the Orchard Manor Nursing Home. She was born in Batavia on February 4, 1935 to the late Andrew and Josephine (Zito) Riso. In addition to her parents, Theresa is predeceased by her grandson; Sean Stevens; sisters Rose Battaglia, Josephine Battaglia, Frances Gravanda and Pauline Gullo; brothers Andrew, Harry and Nicholas Riso.

She is survived by her loving husband; Patrick Suozzi of Medina; son Terry (Alberta) Suozzi of Medina; sister Mary Davidson of Clarence along with many nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior calling hours. All are invited to attend a 10:00AM Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday May 23, 2018 at Ascension Parish 19 Sumner St. Batavia, NY 14020. She will be laid to rest at St. Joseph’s Mausoleum.

Helen J. Burns, 89 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday (May 16, 2018) at United Memorial Medical Center.

She was born November 4, 1928 in Batavia, NY, the youngest child of John and Julia (Krawiec) Niedzialek.

She was a simple, quiet person from humble beginnings to her humble end. She was known for her loving kindness and generosity for family, extended family, friends and neighbors. Her great joys were taking care of anyone she considered family, always opening her door to visitors, her kitchen to feed and her pocketbook for anyone in need. She never asked why you need something, instead only asking what you need.

Helen was a lifelong resident of Batavia and retired from P.W. Minor. She was a member of Resurrection Parish and enjoyed working outside, feeding birds, cats and other animals around her home. Helen loved her poodles. Most of all, she enjoyed time with her family and will be missed by all who knew her.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Paul J. Burns, and celebrated 67 years of marriage before his passing on August 4, 2016. She is also predeceased by her siblings, Della Platt, Edward Niedzialek, Walter Niedzialek, Joseph Niedzialek and Stanley Niedzialek.

Survivors include her daughter, Sandra J. Niedzialek – Burns of Dansville, NY. Son, Paul J. (Cheryl) Burns Jr. of Tucson, AZ. Grandchildren, Kristen (Joseph) Balonek of Rochester, Jaime (Carl) Catlin of Chittenago, NY, Benjamin Seekins of Batavia and Eleanor Kidder of Tucson, AZ. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are cordially invited to share in her Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday (May 19^th),   9:30am at Resurrection Parish, 18 Ellicott St., Batavia. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Batavia - Betty J. Showler, 83, of Batavia, an employee at Angelica Textile Services, in Batavia, prior to her retirement, died Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Batavia Health Care Center.

Mrs. Showler was born August 15, 1934 in Batavia, the daughter of the late Albert H. and Lila Fern (Johnson) Showler.

She loved to garden and enjoyed the flowers that she grew.

Survivors include her daughter, Sandra L. (William) Chupp of Batavia; her grandson, Michael Chupp of Batavia and several nieces and nephews. 

She was the sister of the late Ronald Robert Showler and Theodore Marvin Showler.

ROBERT A. "BOB" BOYCE ~ Corfu 

Age 51, died unexpectedly early Monday morning May 14, 2018 at the Erie County Medical Center. He was born December 24, 1966 in Batavia, NY a son of Roland (Gloria) Boyce and the late Nancy (Terry) Boyce also preceded in death by a brother, Jack Boyce.   

Bob was the owner\operator of Christine Auto in Corfu for over 30 years and a bus mechanic for Pembroke Central Schools for over 25 years. He was president of the WNY Bus Mechanics Association, Sportman Coon Club and a Mopar fanatic! "Bondo Bob" was a friend to all and always ready to lend a hand, loved four-wheeling, trips North to the Mountains and cabin in Tug Hill. 

Surviving along with his father, his loving wife Angela (Delelys) Boyce; sons, Tyler Delelys of Batavia and Brandon Delelys of Greece; siblings, Cindy (late Dominic) Cerce of FL, Bill (Chrissy) Boyce of Pembroke, Randy (June0 Boyce of Oakfield, Sue (Mark) Seweryniak of Batavia, Bob (Angela) Boyce of Batavia; sister-in-law, Delores Boyce of Oakfield; mother and father-in-law, Linda (Jeff) Landers of Alden, NY along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

DONALD A. "DAPPER DAN" BERARDINI, SR. ~ Batavia 

Age 88, of Batavia, NY died peacefully Monday evening May 14, 2018 at the Batavia Healthcare Center. He was born in January 28, 1930 in Batavia a son of the late Donato and Assunta (Bellucci) Berardini also preceded in death by his beloved wife Angeline "Angie" (Tenebruso) Berardini in 2011. 

Donald was a 1947 graduate of Batavia High School, was drafted into the Army in 1953 and served honorably in the Korean Conflict. Upon returning home he worked for Sylvania where he was a Union Steward and worked many years as a Mutual Clerk for Batavia Downs. A lifelong member of Ascension Parish (former St. Anthony's), volunteered on the Lawn Fete committee for many years, a founding member/life member of the former St. Nicholas Club, VFW Post #1602 and an avid NY Yankees fan. Oddly enough Don never had a drivers license but enjoyed trips to the casinos and playing cards. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. 

Surviving are his loving children, Donald A. (Terri) Berardini, Jr. of Lake Forest, IL, Suzanne (Donald) Jensen of Binghamton, Michael Berardini of Rochester, Eva (Steve) Owens of Clayton, NC, Brian (Frances) Berardini of Clayton, NC and Paul (Jessica Radam) Berardini of Batavia; 16 cherished grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; siblings, Richard (Josie) Berardini of Webster, Betty Daly of Arizona, Robert (Sue) Berardini of Batavia and Diane (late Jerry) Martino of Batavia along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Batavia - John L. Mortellaro, Sr., age 89, of Batavia, passed away on Monday, May 14, 2018 at Strong Memorial Hospital, in Rochester.

John was born April 17, 1929 in Buffalo, a son of the late Gerlando Mortellaro and Rosalie Tambirello Mortellaro.

John was a dynamic, fun loving man who’s love of Family, Friends, life, dance, music and skiing could not be matched.  All you had to do is meet John and within minutes you would feel at home; part of the family.  His joy in life was making you feel at home and lightening any burden that you might be dealing with.

A self-employed farmer with G. Mortellaro & Sons in Elba for over 50 years, John was named the Outstanding Young Farmer in New York State in 1960. Following his retirement from the farm, he was a real estate agent with Bob Harris Realty in Batavia for 25 years.

A member of St. Joseph's Church, John was a member and president for over 20 years with the Genesee Orleans Grower's Association. A member of the Batavia Lions Club, he enjoyed waterskiing, bowling, water aerobics with the ladies, soccer, bocce ball, volleyball, snowmobiling and skiing.

He is survived by his wife, Johanne Latona Mortellaro, whom  he married May 30, 1959; his children, Lori Mortellaro Wendt of Batavia, John (Susanne Peach) Mortellaro, Jr. of Erie, Colorado, Ted (Troy Baldwin) Mortellaro of Chicago, Illinois, James (Carolyn) Mortellaro of Nashua, New Hampshire and Jennifer (Christopher) Gerace of Victor; six grandchildren, Christopher Wendt, Phillip Mortellaro, Sophia Mortellaro, Phoebe Mortellaro, Stephen Gerace and Anna Gerace; his sister, Virginia (Thomas) Rizzo of Kenmore; sister-in-law, Jean Latona of Mt Morris; sister-in-law, Janet McGee of Ohio; sister-in-law, Nancy Mortellaro of Batavia; goddaughter, Lynn Houseknecht and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is predeceased by his siblings, Mary Giordano and Gasper Mortellaro.

Shirley F. Smith, 92 of LeRoy, formerly of Batavia passed away peacefully under the loving care of the nurses and nursing assistants on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at LeRoy Village Green in LeRoy. She was born August 23, 1925 in DuBois, PA to the late George (Shirley Hauck) Kearney. Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 39 years, Robert J. Smith Sr.; sisters Jeanne Rill (Norman) of Michigan, Betty Cooley (Leon) of Attica and Mary Barrett (David) of Batavia.

Shirley lived in Perry during her childhood and later moved to Batavia. She was employed as a bookkeeper at Batavia Marine and Sporting Supply for almost 30 years where she enjoyed talking to everyone about hunting and fishing. She was a lifetime member of Godfrey’s Pond. She also worked as an election inspector for many years as well. Her faith was very important to her, and she was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Church and a member of the Women’s Sodality for many years.

Shirley’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her son; Robert J. Smith Jr. (Melissa) of Batavia; daughter Paula (Batchellor) Miller (Theodore) of East Bethany; grandchildren Major Adam S. Batchellor (USAF) (Nicol) of Montgomery, AL., Jenny Carney (Brendan) of East Bethany, Amy Celentano (Peter) of Stafford, Megan Hausler of California and Kelsey Smith of Pennsylvania; great grandchildren Neeley Elizabeth Carney and Beau Whitman Batchellor; sister Barbara Dyrbala (Frank) of Alexander; along with her son-n-law Gary Batchellor; her devoted friend Judy Schildwaster and many nieces and nephews.

Mary Jane Lyons, 80, of Batavia passed away on May 15, 2018 at Premier Genesee Nursing Home in Batavia. She was born in Batavia on February 3, 1938 to the late Charles and Bessie (Fenton) Johnston. In addition to her parents, Mary is predeceased by her husband; Ernest Lyons; siblings Alan, William, James and Robert Johnston, Virginia Gysel, Nancy Wade, Marion Kasorik.

Mary was a full time mom who loved crossword puzzles. She worked for several years at the Darien Knitting Mill.

She is survived by her children; Glenn (Jackie) Lyons, Karen (Vincent) Crossley and Judy Lyons; sister Margaret Heinz; 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Loretta T. (Cardone) Christoforetti, 84, of Attica passed away peacefully on May 14, 2018 at Crossroads House in Batavia. She was born October 3, 1933 in Nanticoke, PA to the late Angelo and Anna (Barshauski) Christie (Christoforetti). In addition to her parents, Loretta is predeceased by her sister; Delphine Croy.

She is survived by her children; Donna (Chris Green) Almeter of Canaserega, Rosanne (Colin) McGovern of Henrietta, Maury (Mike LaVarnway) Fountain of Attica, Michael (Sydney) Cardone of NC., Dominic (Chris) Cardone of MD., Daniel Cardone of Attica; brother Angelo Christoforetti of PA.; 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Loretta had just enjoyed a beautiful celebration for Mother’s Day surrounded by her family. She raised 6 very musical and faith filled children so there was lots of singing and Praise to God. She also had a strong devotion to Mary so her family had a May crowning with lots of flowers. Loretta was a Master Gardener and had many beautiful gardens during her life. But she’d cut the flowers and for her entire life used them to adorn the altars of every church she belonged to. She was in charge of the May Crowning every year so it was very special to her. She was the head of the sodality, the Blue Army teaching many young women the virtue of chastity and emulating Mary as a role model of how to love and honor her Son Jesus. Loretta was a Home Health Care Provider and housed many elderly and disabled people over the years and also in her “spare time” cleaned homes and tended the gardens of many elderly in the neighborhood. She was a foster mother to several teens, and many others called her mom. Loretta took in anyone, some stayed for days, some for years. Loretta was a member of The Altar and Rosary Society and washed and ironed all the altar linens and taught Religious Education from the time she got married up into a few years ago. She never stopped teaching the faith to anyone she came in contact with and was an incredibly loved mother and grandmother. Loretta will be so missed but her family rejoices that she is home in Heaven seeing the face of God and can finally rest.

Ogdnesburg ~ Patrick W. Dickes, age 56, of Ogdensburg, passed away on January 18, 2018 at Claxton Hepburn Hospital in Ogdensburg, after a lengthy illness.

Patrick was born on December 6, 1961 in Batavia, a son of the late Clyde W. and Mildred S. Dickes. 

He worked for various employers in maintenance of building and grounds before retiring in 2015.

He married Lorie Tauscher on November 14, 1981.  They had two children, Cory and Chris.  Their marriage later ended in divorce. In addition to his children, he is survived by a grandson, David Mecedo; three sisters; Liza (Russell) Peet, Michele (Anthony) Buczek and Vicki (Mark) McShane.  Also surviving are aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, and many cousins.

There are no prior visiting hours. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Springvale Cemetery, Edgerton Road in Elba.

Mary B. Northup, 48 of Albion passed away peacefully on Monday, May 14, 2018 at Martin-Linsin Residence in Albion. She was born on January 30, 1970 in Batavia, to Glenn (Linda Henning) Northup of Byron.

Mary was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Batavia and attended Lifetime Assistance. She was not only the first camper but the longest cancer survivor of Camp Good Days & Special Times. She always had a smile on her face and a soft spot for animals. Mary loved her nieces and nephews.

She survived by sisters Brenda Andrews of Batavia; Tressa (Eric) Hansen of Geneva; nieces and nephews Michael Sananikone, Kaetlyn Andrews, Christopher, Laura Hansen, along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Friends are invited to call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc. 329-333 West Main Street, Batavia, New York 14020. An 11:00 AM Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018 at the Funeral Home. Mary will be laid to rest in Byron Cemetery.
