Mary F. Mullen

Batavia - Mary F. Mullen, 98, died Saturday, December 19, 2015 at the Genesee County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Mullen was born November 19, 1917 in Batavia, the daughter of the late Henry and Sophia (Tetz) Tandlmayer. 

A member of Resurrection Parish (St. Joseph’s Church) for many years she, her late husband and their families provided the chairmanship of the Cadillac Raffle at the Church’s annual lawn fete.  Mrs. Mullen also belonged to the Home School Associations of St.  Joseph’s School and Notre Dame High School and was lifetime member of the Batavia Lioness Club.

She was the wife the late Robert W. Mullen who died in 1993 and sister of the late Herbert Tandlmayer.

Survivors include three sons; Robert (Laura) Mullen of Batavia, Richard (June) Mullen of Byron and William (Joyce) Mullen of Brockport; two daughters, Mary Anne Mullen of Batavia and  Ann Marie (late Dr.  S. Paul) Dhanda  of East Bethany.  Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, several great and great greatgrandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 E. Main St., Batavia.  Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. at Resurrection Parish - St. Joseph Church, 303 E. Main St. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s School, 2 Summit St. Batavia, NY 14020, Notre Dame High School, 73 Union St., Batavia, NY 14020 or the Sisters of Mercy, 625 Abbott Rd. Batavia Downs donates $2,300 in lost and unclaimed funds to Sheriff's K9 program

On June 24th, a ceremony was held in the lobby at Batavia Downs Gaming as Batavia Downs showcased their $2,300 sponsorship of the Genesee County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit. The money was left at Batavia Downs and was turned into the Sheriff’s office.

Five local students named to Spring dean's list at SUNY Morrisville

SUNY Morrisville recently announced those students who were named to the dean's list for the Spring 2021 semester. To be named to the dean's list, a student must achieve a 3.0 to 3.99 grade-point average for the semester and complete 12 credit hours.

Jane E. Terrill

LeRoy / Campbell, NY ~ Jane E. Terrill, age 93, of West Avenue, passed away early Tuesday morning (June 22, 2021) at Highland Hospital in Rochester.

     She was born June 6, 1928 on the family farm in Stafford, NY, a daughter of the late Blaine and Viola Hofmann Wight.

     While growing up in Stafford, Jane attended and graduated from the South Byron High School and went on to attend Houghton College, graduating with a teaching degree.  She went on to a long career in teaching high school math and science before retirement.  Jane ultimately moved from Campbell, NY in 2017 to The Greens in LeRoy.

     Jane is survived by her sisters, Nancy (Ronald) Johns of KY and June (Richard) Mullen of Byron; step-children, Robin (Gary) Woodbury and Doc (Jackie) Terrill; step-grandchildren, Nathan (Michele) Terrill and Matthew Terrill, along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

     She was predeceased by her husband, Warren Terrill and her sisters, Evelyn (Cal) Waterman, Mary (Charles) Torrey and Grace (Norman) Phelps.

     A special thank you to her nurse, Beth and caregivers, Katie and Shannon, as well as the staff at Highland Hospital's 5th Floor Blue-West.

     Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
