Mrs. Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Savage

Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Savage, 93, of Parker, Colorado passed away on Tuesday October 26, 2021 at Sky Ridge Medical Center in Parker surrounded by her loving family.

She is survived by her husband John Ottinger of Parker, Colorado whom she married in 1996, her son Michael (Pam) Savage of Parker, Colorado, and her daughter Marilyn (Michael) Mullen of Batavia, New York. Her grandchildren Chad (Samantha) Savage of Kansas City, Missouri, Danielle (Dave) Abrahams of Parker, Colorado, Michael (Jerri) Savage of Boise, Idaho, Burgundy (Rob) McCoy of Amherst, New York, Chelsea (Christopher) Cummings of Batavia, New York, Bonnie (Gareth) Dismore of Stockholm, Sweden, Kyle (Amanda) Savage of Parker, Colorado, and Samantha (Charith) Mullen of Amherst, New York, and 18 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Major Kenneth “Bud” Savage (USAF Retired) and their son John Patrick “Pat” Savage.

Betty was born August 6, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan, the only child of the late John and Frances Pearl (Crowley) Connell. After marrying Bud in 1949, they embarked on the adventure of their lifetime, living at air bases around the world with their three children in support of his career as an Air Force fighter pilot. After Bud’s retirement brought them to Denver, Betty began her career with the Department of Treasury IRS Denver office where she worked until her retirement.

A voracious reader, Betty was always involved in a new book, and the advent of electronic readers only seemed to accelerate her reading pace, even into her nineties. Quilting was another of her pastimes, with the colorful designs decorating and warming the walls of their homes over the years.

But her true passion was family, and visiting with them was always the highlight of any day. Betty was just a phone call away, no matter where her family was. She will always be remembered for her humor, her twinkling and piercing Irish eyes, her sage advice, and her loving and unwavering support of her children and grandchildren. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.

Betty will be laid to rest in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Batavia, with a Celebration of Life to follow in Colorado at a later date.  Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Arrangements were entrusted to Heflebower Funeral Home in Denver, Colorado and H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home in Batavia, New York.

Knights of Columbus Council 325 continues scholarship funding to students at catholic schools

In 2019, The Msgr. Kirby Knights of Columbus Council 325 graciously offered to start a yearly scholarship fund to celebrate and recognize some of St. Joseph Regional School's students.  The recipients are nominated by the school staff and the awards are presented at the End of the Year Awards Ceremony.

K-9 Frankie of the Genesee County Sheriff's Office will retire and live with his handler, Deputy Andrew Mullen, who has resigned.

Frankie, the faithful K-9 used for tracking and other law enforcement duties for the Gensee County Sheriff’s Office the last four years, will now follow in his handler’s footsteps.

Deputy Sheriff Andrew Mullen resigned his position, and has asked to take Frankie with him, Sheriff William Sheron said during Monday’s Public Service Committee meeting.

Possible serious injury accident reported on Route 98

A serious injury accident, possibly involving a child, is reported at Route 98 and Lockport Road, Elba.

Elba Fire and Mercy EMS dispatched. Mercy Flight responding.

One vehicle is blocking.  Traffic on Route 98 is being shut down.

Law and Order: Le Roy man accused of refusing to provide ID during traffic stop

Jeremiah L. Hayes, 29, of Le Roy, is charged with obstructing governmental administration 2nd and speeding. Hayes was stopped by Batavia PD on July 26 on West Main Street, Batavia. During the traffic stop, he allegedly refused to identify himself or provide police with a driver's license. He allegedly refused to exit his vehicle. He was removed from his vehicle by patrol officers. He was issued an appearance ticket.

Law and Order: Batavia man accused of hitting person, fleeing police, and then causing another disturbance

Joel D. Prouty, 37, of Batavia, is charged with strangulation 2nd and assault 3rd. It’s alleged that Prouty struck the victim in the face and strangled her during a disturbance on an undisclosed date at an undisclosed location in the City of Batavia. When Police arrived on scene, Prouty allegedly jumped out of a second-story window and fled on foot. Officers were unable to locate Prouty that day. On Aug. 4, patrols were called back to the same address for another disturbance between Prouty and the same victim. When officers attempted to take him into custody, Prouty reportedly fought with them. He was additionally charged with resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration 2nd. He was arraigned in City Court and held without bail.

Jerome E. Ware, 59, of New Rochelle, is charged with two counts of identity theft 1st and grand larceny third. Joel A. Rojas Perallon, 20, and Raul DeLeon DeLeon, 30, both of New York City, were charged with identity theft 1st, grand larceny 3rd, and scheme to defraud 1st. Ware's arrest came after a report on April 8, 2022, in Wyoming County, of a person misrepresenting himself as a Verizon Wireless employee. 

Law and Order: Batavia resident accused of owning six unlicensed, feces-covered dogs

Rulee A. Allyn, 60, of Batavia, is charged with six counts of owning an unlicensed dog and six counts of failure to provide sustenance to animals. On the morning of July 12, Officers were called to Brooklyn Avenue, Batavia, for a report of numerous dogs running loose in the area. Officers located five dogs and were able to contain them. They were determined to belong to Allyn. A sixth dog was located in Allyn’s residence. All the dogs were allegedly covered in feces and were not being properly cared for. Allyn was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear.
