The Batavia Society of Artists is hosting artist Chris Humel from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8th, at GO ART!, located in historic Seymour Place, 201 E. Main St., Batavia.

Humel will be doing a hands-on demonstation in cartooning.

Non-members welcome with a $5 fee.

Oakfield Open House in honor of retiring Highway Superintendent Alan Dennis

Town of Oakfield Highway Superintendent Alan R. Dennis is retiring! To thank him for his public service and wish him well, an Open House will be held in his honor on Thursday, Oct. 3.

It will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Oakfield Community and Government Center, 3219 Drake St., Oakfield.

Light refreshments/snacks will be available.

All Weather Gang painters' reception at Richmond library for new exhibit 'CAUTION! -- Men Working'

The "All Weather Gang" founded by Batavians -- the late John Hodgins and Don Grieger -- originally known as "The Group of Two"
has grown to 12 members.

For nearly 40 years the AWG has wandered the back roads of Western New York, painting the unnoticed, the ignored and the unappreciated.

Their show titled, "CAUTION! -- Men Working -- paintings by the All Weather Gang," will be held at the Richmond Memorial Library during the month of October.

Annual Sportsman Raffle at Byron fire rec hall

On Saturday, Oct. 5th, the annual Sportsman Raffle will be held to benefit the Byron Fire Department at the Byron Fire Hall on Route 262. Doors open at 4 p.m., raffle starts at 5 p.m.

Tickets are $20 each; ticket price includes meal and beverages.

Many prizes will be awarded to lucky ticket holders, including guns, cash, a lifetime hunting license, a chartered fishing trip, and special packages for hunting, camping and fishing. There will also be side raffles for other items.

Proceeds help the Byron Fire Department buy new gear and equipment.

Dine tonight at Miss Batavia Diner and 30 percent of receipt will benefit Alzheimer's Association of WNY

From 4 to 9 p.m. today -- Tuesday, Sept. 24 -- 30 percent of all dinner sale proceeds at Miss Batavia Diner will be given to the Alzheimer's Association of Western New York.

The diner is located 566 E. Main St. in the City of Batavia.

"Easy as pie! You get to enjoy a delightful dinner without all the cleanup and the money supports Alzheimer's education programs, support services, and other resources for care partners and those living with dementia," say the hosts Danielle and Lance Engels.

'Recognition Night': Blue Devils' football team honors military and first responders

The Batavia Blue Devils Football Team invites the entire community to Recognition Night on Friday at the new Daniel A. Van Detta Stadium to honor first responders and the military.

Game time is 7 p.m. -- Batavia High School vs. Geneva.

"All men and women in uniform past, present and future" will be honored -- the military, law enforcement, firefighters and medics.

They will get free admission with ID, plus a free hot dog and drink.

Genesee Valley Wind Ensemble's Fall Concert at Pembroke HS

Genesee Valley Wind Ensemble will hold its Fall Concert at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24, at the Pembroke High School. It is located at 8750 Alleghany Road, Pembroke.

The purpose of the GVWE is to serve and to provide the Greater Genesee Valley audience with new and familiar live music, to serve its membership with the opportunity to perform challenging wind ensemble literature and to create the opportunity for the conductor and musicians to grow their collective musical talents.

Alexander Fire Department's annual Harvest Dinner Dance at rec hall

The Alexander Fire Department is hosting a Harvest Dinner Dance at at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23 at their recreation hall,10708 Alexander Road, Attica.

A buffet meal will include stuffed pork tenderloin, mashed potatoes, glazed carrots, squash, seasonal breads, dessert, coffee, tea, pop and water. Cash bar will be available.

Live music by Highway 31 will be from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Annual Fall Gun Raffle at Alexander Fire Department

The Alexander Fire Department is hosting its Annual Fall Gun Raffle at their Recreation Hall, 10708 Alexander Road, Attica, from 5 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2nd.

Tickets are $20 per person. Main ticket prizes include 11 rifles, seven shotguns, two pistols and three cash prizes. Door and floor raffles will include eight additional guns.

Food, beer and pop included. Also 50-50 and bell jar available. Only 975 tickets sold.
