S. Byron / Pavilion ~ Luella R. Scott, age 79, of Mechanic Street, passed away early Thursday morning (March 21, 2019) at United Memorial Medical Center.

     She was born August 8, 1939 in Hosmer, SD, a daughter of the late August and Barbara Mohr Martel.

     Luella was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who enjoyed spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren.  She also used to cherish the time she spent with her mother-in-law, Alice, traveling around the area.

     She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 56 years, Donald P. Scott; her children, Barbara (Butch) Osborne, Kelly Scott (Charlie), Donald (Barb) Scott and Kim (Arthur) Desjardins; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; her in-laws, Shirley Gross, Donna Hollister, Harold (Rowena) Scott and Richard (Rose) Scott, along with many nieces and nephews.

     In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Joseph and Irving.

     Services and interment in the Maplewood Cemetery, Pavilion, will be at the convenience of her family.

Maynard L. Armison, from the Town of Batavia, NY and West Melbourne, FL, died peacefully at Melbourne Terrace on Sunday night, March 17, 2019. Born in Hinsdale, NY on March 31, 1934, he was the son of the late Laurence and Bessie (Totten) Armison. Maynard’s family moved to Batavia in 1946 where he attended Elba Central School, graduating with the class of 1952. He served in the US Army in Korea from 1955-1956, returning home to become co-owner of Armison Farms, Inc. on Route 98. 

His greatest joy was marrying Margery M. Saunders on April 12, 1958 and together raising their four children. Maynard fulfilled his high school ambition to become a “Flying Farmer” in his favorite hobby: checking his crops, flying from the Genesee County Airport (which was practically in his own backyard). Other interests shared with Margery included square dancing with the Batavia Twirlers, hosting community campouts in their backyard, opening the pool to the American Red Cross swim program, and becoming a favorite gathering spot for post- football practice, snowmobilers, fall hayrides, and campfires in the woods. He was an active member at Batavia’s First Baptist Church, serving on various boards, and was also on the Board of Directors for Upstate Farms Cooperative. Maynard retired from farming in 1981, drove milk truck a few years, and then served at the New York State School For The Blind until retiring in 1997. “On The Road Again” became his favorite motto as he and Margery lived full-time in a motor coach, touring the US and Canada until settling in West Melbourne, FL in 2005. 

Maynard is survived by his wife, Margery; children Dawn (Frank) Cibor, (full-time RVers), Susan (Kenneth) Degnan of Albion, NY, Daniel (Jodi) Armison and Scott Armison of West Melbourne, FL; sister Wilma 
(late Robert) VanWagnen of Batavia, NY; grandchildren, Andrew (Krystal) Cibor, Amy (Erik) Elam, Nathaniel Degnan, Rebekah (Calvin) Smith, Matthew Degnan, Daniel (Corinne) Armison, Jr., Kristyn (Victor) Thomas, Jason Armison, Julie Armison, Ty Armison, Morgan Armison, Megan (Caleb) Smith and Christian Armison; great-grandchildren, Everett Elam, Silas Smith, Roland Smith, Peyton Armison, Haylee Armison, Maddox Armison, Adisyn Thomas, and Marshall Thomas; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. 

Maynard’s Memorial Service is 11:00 am on Friday, March 22, 2019 at First Church|Melbourne, a United Methodist Community on East New Haven Ave, Melbourne, FL. Batavia ~ June Ellis, age 72, of South Main Street, passed away Monday evening (March 18, 2019) at Crossroads House in Batavia, surrounded by her loving family.

     She was born January 5, 1947 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Woodrow and Bernice Baker Penders.

     June will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, who enjoyed spending time with all her grandchildren.  She was also known as a gambling enthusiast, playing cards and travelling to the casinos.  She was also an avid Buffalo Bills fan.

     She is survived by her children, Terry (Catrina) Penders, Tammy (Jack Pangrazio) Nanni, Kathy (Donald) Park, Lynn (Gerry) Sanders and Wayne Ellis; grandchildren, Lindsey (Colin), Luke, Ashley, Joshua, Trisha, Zachary, Harley, Taylor, Preston and Parker; great-grandchildren, Everleigh, Kylee, Kam, Aliyah and Wyatt; brother, Carl (LaRaine) Penders, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

     She was predeceased by her sister, Faye Ann Thompson, sister-in-law, Sharon Penders, and son-in-law, Enrico Nanni.

     A Celebration of June's Life will be held at a future date to be announced.

Loretta Scinta Boylan, 79, of Le Roy, NY and Bonita Springs, FL, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2019. She had been a seasonal resident of Bonita Springs for the last 30 years.
She was born December 29, 1939 in Batavia, NY, the daughter of Joseph and Julia (née Hale) Scinta.

She was a graduate of Le Roy High School and Nazareth College in Pittsford, NY, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art Education.

Loretta’s career was multi-faceted. She taught art and spelling in the Elementary and Middle schools of Albany, NY. She was a partner in Classic Interiors, an residential and commercial design firm. She was also the Executive Director of United Memorial Medical Center Foundation, Inc. of Batavia, NY.

She was one of the Founders of both the Parents and Teachers Service Organization at LeRoy Central Schools and the annual Oatka Festival in LeRoy. She also served two terms as President of the History of Art Club in LeRoy, and was a member of the Conversation Class in Batavia. She was a member of the of the LeRoy Historical Society Board of Directors.. She served as Co-Chairperson of the University of Rochester Parents Council. She became Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the United Memorial Medical Center Foundation, Inc. and then became its Chairwoman Emeritus. She also was selected to serve on the Bonita Bay Community Association Design Review Committee.

She was a passionate gourmet cook, a voracious reader, and enjoyed watercolor painting watercolors.
Mrs. Boylan is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, Paul S. Boylan; her beloved sons: Mark S. (Rebecca) Boylan of LeRoy, NY, Laurence C. Boylan II of Baltimore, MD, and Peter H. (Jeanine) Boylan of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; three cherished grandsons: Theodore P., Boylan of Boston, MA, Peter P. Boylan of Groveland, CA; Atticus L. Boylan of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and three dear step-granddaughters Montana, Olivia and Ava Vescovi, all of LeRoy, NY.

She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Julia, and a brother, Charles Scinta. Services will be held in LeRoy in May 18th, 2019.

  Phyllis D. Hilchey, 91, of Oakfield passed away peacefully on March 20, 2019. She was born on November 14, 1927 in Oakfield to the late Augustus and Ruby (Boomer) Davis. She is predeceased by her husband; Alvin W. Hilchey.

Mrs. Hilchey is survived by her sons; William (Sally) Hilchey of FLA., James (Linda Kleiber) Hilchey of Albion, Robert (Robin) Hilchey of Oakfield and John (Susan) Hilchey of Oakfield; she is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Kathleen J. Kelso, 57 of Basom, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday (March 15, 2019) at her residence.

She was born July 18, 1961 in Batavia, NY, a daughter of the late Richard and Doris Schramm Stack.

She was formerly employed by the Totem Pole Smoke Shop.

Survivors include her fiancé, Lloyd “Ginzu” Thomas of Basom. Children, Tim (Lynda) Kelso Jr., William (Edna) Kelso and Steven (Nina) Kelso, all of Batavia. Sisters, Teresa Stack of Batavia, Janet Ciociola of E. Bethany and Marianne Hackett of Batavia. Brothers, Paul Stack of Elba, Thomas Stack of Batavia, David (Sharon) Stack of Illinois and Michael Stack of Alexander. She is also survived by several grandchildren.

Olive M. Domres, 93 of Cheektowaga, passed away peacefully on Friday (March 15, 2019) at Hospice Buffalo in Cheektowaga, NY.

She was born February 17, 1926 in Spokane, WA, but grew up in Buffalo, NY, a daughter of the late William and Margaret Lutz Bennett.

She was predeceased by her husband, Irving Domres, who died in 1995. Sister of the late Robert and Gordon Bennett and Betty Joy Hall and grandmother of the late Wayne Rosen.

Olive was formerly employed by Super Duper in Gowanda, NY prior to her retirement. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and watching game shows on TV. She loved her family and cherished her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Caryn (late Spencer) Rosen of Amherst, Denise (Thomas) Gibbore of Endicott, Corrie (Sandra Pattison) Domres of Akron and Debbie Freudenheim of Cheektowaga. Viola Frances Freer, 87 of Brownsburg, Indiana, formerly of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Monday (March 18, 2019) in Brownsburg, Indiana.

She was born in Oakfield, NY on November 30, 1931, a daughter of the late Roy and Vivian Chamberlain Lawton.

Viola was employed by the Pavilion Central School District for 30 years prior to her retirement and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pavilion. She enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles and crafts.

She was the wife of the late Donald W. Freer who died in 1976; mother of the late Donna Strong; sister of the late Sally Marten and grandmother of the late Jeremy Palmer.

Survivors include her children, Pam (Lew) Hunter of Indianapolis, IN, Karen (Gil) Palmer of Joliet, IL and Michael Freer of Batavia. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

  Edith M. Pukos, 89 of Perry, passed away on Sunday March 17, 2019 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. She was born in the Town of Portage on January 10, 1930 a daughter to the late Spencer B. and Evelyn (Gross) Hunt. Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Joseph W. Pukos who passed away in 2002, daughter; Karen Eichorn who passed away in 2009 and several siblings.

Edith was a homemaker who enjoyed making cookies, gardening, reading and doing needlepoint. Her biggest joy was her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren and great granddaughters.

She is survived by her children: Sharon (Dennis) McMahan of Perry, Joseph (Teresa) Pukos of Leicester, Marc (Barbara) Pukos of Churchville, sister: Marion Koson of Perry, brother: Frederick Hunt of Perry, 8 grandchildren: Kellee (Russell) Bradley, Ryan, Scott, Eric and Emily Pukos, Alexander (Nicole) Pukos, Kathryn and Jessica Pukos, 2 great granddaughters: Kayden and Madison Bradley, along with many nieces and nephews.

  Mary Jean Feeney, 88, formerly of Attica, NY, passed away on March 16, 2019 in Cumming, GA..  She was born on June 26, 1930 in Warsaw, NY to the late Eugene and the late Margaret (Regan) Holahan. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Margaret Canale and Sheila Garry.

Mary Jean graduated from Warsaw High School in 1948 and continued her education at Mercyhurst College in Erie, PA.  Upon graduating Summa Cum Laude, she embarked upon a teaching career. In 1953, Mary Jean married Alfred Feeney, and spent the next few years at various Air Force duty assignments, including 2 years in Japan.  After returning to Warsaw in 1961, Mary Jean surrendered her teaching career to focus on family, eventually raising five children to whom she loved fiercely and unconditionally.  Mary Jean and her family moved to Attica, NY in 1964 where she was an avid golfer, attended every school and sporting event of her children, enjoyed game shows, traveling to the beach, and Big East basketball. 

Mary Jean is survived by her husband of nearly 66 years, Alfred Feeney; her five children, Sean (Kate), Margaret, Elizabeth (Phyllis), Kevin (Dana) and Timothy (Karyn); her sister, Maureen Hayes and eight grandchildren, Claire, Allison (Brian), Tyler, Ben, Kaden, Kole, Trey and Maggie.

A Visitation will be held on Friday, March 22, 2019 from 4-6 P.M. at the Marley Funeral Home, LLC, 135 Main St., Attica, NY 14011. MARY E. TORREY ~ Age 92, of Elba, died peacefully Sunday morning March 17, 2019 at The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing in Batavia. Born in Byron, NY on July 2, 1926, a daughter of the late Blaine and Viola (Hofmann) Wight; also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Torrey; dearest granddaughter, Jordyn Mary Augello; sisters, Evelyn (late Calvin) Waterman and Grace (late Norman) Phelps.

Mary, having spent most of her life in Elba was known to all from supporting her late husband in running Torrey Farms to being one of Elba Central Schools most beloved teachers. A high school science teacher of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Along with teaching, she tutored many children throughout her years and made such an impact on them that they would often stop to visit long after graduation. She was a lifelong learner who had a passion for science, teaching and her students that she was always most proud of. Mary was a longtime member of the Elba United Methodist Church; she enjoyed gardening, travelling and time spent with her family.

Mary is survived by children, Maureen (Paul) Marshall, John (Carol) Torrey, Mark (Catherine) Torrey all of Elba and Mary Jane (Kevin) Fast of SC; sisters, Nancy (Ronald) Johns of Kentucky, June (Richard) Mullen of Byron and Jane (late Warren) Terrill of LeRoy; grandchildren, Jamie (Carson Dowdle) Marshall, Julie Marshall, Jill (Stephen) Gould, Laura (Tarek) Badawy, Melissa (Jimmie DeLeon) Martin, Molly (Erick) Anderson, Travis (Grace) Torrey, Shannon (Matthew) Kyle, Lucas (Kimberly) Torrey, Jed (Kelsey) Torrey, Maxwell (Alyssa Laudico) Torrey, late Jordyn Mary (Charles) Augello, Jessica (Richard) Lack, Melissa (Daniel) DiFelice and Carissa Fast along with 23 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

BATAVIA -- Peter C. Baudanza, 83, of 154 Jackson St. in Batavia, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2019.

He was a lifelong resident of Batavia, the son of the late Gasper (Sam) and Mary Baudanza.

He is survived by his five children: Jason, Peter, Julie, Christine and Dan; his two grandchildren Kayla and Sam; and nephews and nieces -- all of Batavia.

Peter is predeceased by his sister Gloria (Baudanza) Strollo and a brother, Stephen Baudanza, both of Batavia.

A memorial service will be held at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Batavia (18 Ellicott St.) at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 22, 2019.

  James D. Welker, Sr., of Attica, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 in Houghton, NY. He was born on December 22, 1933 in Attica to the late Donald J. and the late Helen A. (Spink) Welker. Jim was preceded in death by his sisters, the late Jean (the late Harvey) Pause and the late Mary (Ronald) Levine.

James served his country in the United States Army. After an Honorable Discharge, Jim became an Iron Worker. He was a member of the Iron worker Union Local 33 out of Rochester for many years. He was a member of the New Life Fellowship. Jim was an outdoorsman, enjoying bow hunting and fishing the most. He loved all of God’s creations. He made Maple Syrup with his son as a favorite pastime. Jim’s greatest joy was spending time with his family. Family camping trips to Black Lake were important parts of his children’s growing up years. The Black Lake fishing trips were carried on with his grandsons as well.

Jim was beloved husband of Yvonne (Jatczynski) Welker; father to James D. (Pamela) Welker, Jr., and Lisa (Eric) Werner; beloved grandpa to Emmett (Alyssa) Werner, Caleb Werner, Amos Werner, David Welker, and Steven Welker; cherished brother to David (Joanne) Welker, Ann (Jack) Motz, Susan (Charles) Anna; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Richard Mark Tress, 67, of Batavia passed away peacefully on March 14, 2019 at Crossroads House in Batavia. He was born on September 23, 1951 in Berea, OH to the late Richard L. and Catherine (Lewis) Tress.

Mark was Postmaster in Eden and South Wales and President of the Board of Directors of the Holland Boys and Girls Club.  Mark was also a respected and well-loved coach, referee, and umpire.

Devoted father of Nathan Tress and Jeffrey (Kara) Tress; loving grandfather of Juniper Tress.
