Mary N. Mancuso

Mary N. Mancuso, 97 of Batavia, passed away on Sunday February 26, 2012 at Canterbury Woods, Williamsville, NY.

She was the wife of the late Dominic C. Mancuso, a co-founder of Charles Mancuso and Son, Incorporated. He successfully operated Mancuso’s Restaurant and Bowling Alley for many years.

Mary was born in Cleveland, OH, on October 29, 1914, to the late Louise Kisella and William Neubert. At the age of six months, they moved to Batavia where she has been a resident all of her life. Mary was a devoted and loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend. She was a graduate of St. Joseph’s School and lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Church. She was very active in the St. Joseph’s Home School Association and a member of the Senior Sodality. During the Monsignor Schwartz administration she was an active supporter of various activities including the annual Lawn Fete, church dinners and bazaars. She was a member of St. Jerome’s Guild and the Cooperative Extension. She also served on the Board of Director’s at Notre Dame High School. Mary and Dominic served on the Advisory Council of Rosary Hill College during the years Mary Lou attended there.

Mary is survived by two daughters, Sharon (Paul) Messina of Batavia, and Mary Lou Mancuso of Amherst; step sons, Vincent Mancuso of Boca Raton, FL and Retired Colonel Dominic L. (Angela Miller) Mancuso of Panama City, FL; granddaughters, Shelley (Robert) Bailey of Painted Post and Rebecca (Derk) Hendriksen Messina of Atlanta, GA; step grandchildren, Mary Jo Otto of Pittsford, Michael Mancuso also of Pittsford, and Dominic (Danielle) Mancuso of Victor; Glenn (Renee) Mancuso of Shreveport, LA, Gregory Mancuso of Houston, TX, and Tracy (Steven) Kelley of Panama City, FL; Germaine Irrera, Nathan Mancuso Jr., David (Denielle) Mancuso all of Batavia and the late Stephen Mancuso; great-grandchildren, Robert and Collin Bailey of Painted Post; and Zara and Luca Hendriksen of Atlanta, GA; seven step great-grandchildren and one step great-great grandchild, brother Alex (Mary) Neubert of Batavia, and sister-in-law Gloria (the late Frank) Neubert, along with special nieces and nephews.

Mary was predeceased by her step son Nathan Mancuso Sr., sisters Irene Brenkus, Blanche Schrock and Frances Neubert; brothers John, Julius and Frank Neubert.

Patricia A. Chilano

Patricia A. Chilano, 65 of Batavia, died  February 23, 2012 at her home in Batavia. She was born November 22, 1946 in Batavia, New York to the late Russell (Veronica Hayes) Chilano. Ms. Chilano was retired from the Dietary Department of the Genesee County Nursing Home. She was very passionate about the care of the elderly and her work.

She is survived by a brother Joseph (Meg) Chilano of Batavia, two nephews Michael (Catherine) Chilano of Rochester, Andrew Chilano of Akron and a goddaughter Maria Frieday of Batavia.  

There will be no prior calling hours. Funeral Services will take place 11:00 AM on Thursday March 1, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Mausoleum in Batavia. Interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Christine M. Blasioli

Christine M. Blasioli, 93 of Batavia, died February 24, 2012 at the Crest Manor Living and Rehabilitation Center in Fairport. She was born August 15, 1918 in Glasport, PA to the late Joseph (Carmella Mangone Pullinzi) Tramontana. Mrs. Blasioli was the owner for 50 years of Christine’s Beauty Shop in Batavia. She was a member of Ascension Parish (St. Anthony’s), the Altar & Rosary Society, the St. Nicholas Society and the Paolo Busti Cultural Society. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Frank Blasioli Sr and son Nicholas Blasioli both in 1998. Also two brothers James Tramontana, Patrick Pullinzi, three sisters Clara Scuderi, Mildred DiSanto and Anna Pullinzi.     

She is survived by a son Frank Blasioli Jr. of Pittsford, daughter in law Jean Blasioli of Spencerport, sister Eleanor Longobardi of Batavia. 6 Grandchildren, Joseph, Olivia, Blasioli of Pittsford, Maria (Ripton Hunter) Blasioli of Rochester; Janine Blasioli of NJ; Maryalice (Cody) Kaminski of Gates; Peter Blasioli of Liverpool, 2 great-grandchildren Justin and Renee Hunter survive along with several nieces and nephews.

Beatrice A. Kjos

Beatrice A. Kjos, 80 of Batavia, died suddenly February 23, 2012 at her home in Batavia. She was born October 17, 1931 in Batavia to the late Peter (Mildred Sprague) Chatt. Mrs. Kjos was retired from P.W. Minor in Batavia. She enjoyed reading books and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Wayne Kjos and a son Donald Hagen.

She is survived by her daughter Bonnie Hagen of Georgia, sons Terry (Terry) Hagen of Texas, Timothy (Sandra) Hagen of East Shelby, NY, Kenneth (Joan) Hagen of Rochester and a brother Robert (Shirley) Chatt of Batavia. Four grandchildren Kenny, Matthew, Torie and Shelby survive along with many nieces and nephews.

Margaret McCready

Margaret McCready, 95 of Batavia, died February 21, 2012 peacefully at Williamsville Suburban Nursing Home after a brief illness. She was born May 8, 1916 in Buffalo to the late Edward F. (Mary E. Reuther) Smith. Mrs. McCready worked as a Registered Nurse for many years and was a Head Nurse at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw before she retired. She was very active with the Order of the Eastern Star and former District Deputy Grand Matron. Mrs. McCready was an avid New York Yankee fan, active in the Board of Election in Castile and very devoted to her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Carl D. McCready Jr., son Bruce McCready, daughters Linda and Mary Elizabeth McCready, brother Edward “Skeeter” Smith, sisters Rose Krajeski and Eileen (Miller) James. 

She is survived by sons David J. McCready of Batavia; Carl (Sharon) McCready III of FL; daughter Debbie Larson of Batavia; brother David (Carol) Smith of Depew; 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren,  along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

There will be no prior calling hours. A Memorial Service in celebration of her life will be held in May at a time and date to be announced.  Interment will take place in Grace Cemetery, Castile.

MARY R. PIETRZYKOWSKI

Age 88, of Oakfield and formerly of Batavia, died peacefully Monday morning February 21, 2012 at United Memorial Medical Center. She was born January 29, 1924 in LeRoy, NY daughter of the late Frank & Carmella (Zalacca) O'Geen and was also preceded in death by her husband Walter P.; son Joseph; sisters Josephine Tomaszewski & Connie O'Geen. She was a member of Ascension Parish and worked for many years at Batavia Downs. An avid card player, Mary loved to be with family, friends and was a devoted mother and grandmother.

Surviving is her loving daughter Mary Eleanor (Steve) Wells of Oakfield; brother Fran (Chip) O'Geen; sister Sarah O'Geen; 3 grandchildren Paul, Nick & Ashley; 3 great-grandchildren Kaitlyn, Megan & Carter along with many nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.

Family and friends may visit from 2-4 & 7-9 PM Friday February 24 at the Michael S. Donald F. Koepp

Donald F. Koepp, 70 of Batavia, died February 19, 2012 at Buffalo General Hospital under Hospice Care. He was born April 19, 1941 in Lockport, to the late Peter (Helen Bullock) Koepp. Mr. Koepp was retired from Angelica Textiles in Batavia. He enjoyed camping at Godfrey’s Pond and being with his grandchildren. He was a brother of the late Edward and Peter Koepp.

He is survived by his wife Lindy L. (Kelso) Koepp of Batavia;  sons Justin (Denise Wahl) Koepp of Batavia, Dana ( Sue) Koepp of Batavia, Peter (Laurie) Koepp of Darien, Mark (Ginger) Koepp of Oklahoma. One daughter Jessica (Gary) Williams of Batavia, 10 grandchildren survive along with many nieces and nephews.

Josephine R. Battaglia

Josephine R. Battaglia formerly of Batavia, N.Y and Cape Coral, Florida passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2012 in Silver Spring, MD at the age of 94.  She was the daughter of the late Andrew and Josephine Zito Riso of Batavia, NY.  She was the wife of the late Cosmo F. Battaglia, who died in 2003. She is also preceded in death by sons A. Donald and A. Gene Battaglia, brothers Andrew, Harry and Nicholas Riso.

She lived in Batavia until 1975 when she moved to Cape Coral, Florida.  She is survived by two sons, Paul J.( Mary) of Batavia and Richard(Rita) of Silver Spring, MD. Also surviving are 7 grandsons, Andrew Battaglia(Mary) of Oklahoma, Paul Battaglia(Jenna) of Victor, Mark Battaglia and Tim Battaglia of Buffalo, Michael Battaglia of Columbus, Ohio, Philip and Brian Battaglia of Silver Spring, MD and one granddaughter, Joline(Jerrod) Moser of Oklahoma, 5 great grandchildren, five sisters, Rose Battaglia of Florida, Frances Gravanda of Buffalo, Pauline Gullo of Florida, Mary Davidson of Clarence and Terry Suozzi of Medina.

Florence R. Benham

Florence R. Benham, 81 of Batavia, died Sunday (February 19, 2012) at the Genesee County Nursing Home after a brief illness..

She was born in Buffalo, NY on December 14, 1930, the daughter of the late Harry and Daisy Setzer Benham.

She was formerly employed by the Genesee County Nursing Home, when it was located in East Bethany.

She is survived by a brother, Donald Benham of Batavia and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were private at the convenience of the family.  Burial will be in Grand View Cemetery.

Warden K. Barrows, Jr.

July 18, 1936 – February 13, 2012

Ward, born in Buffalo, New York, proudly served in the United States Marine Corp. He was a New York State Trooper for 20 years, and in 1979, moved with his family from Batavia, New York to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he worked in security at the Sands and New York, New York Hotel/Casino properties. He retired in 2001, and in 2009 moved to Beaumont, California. He is survived by his wife of 38 years; Mary (Hackett); his sister JoyceFeiertag; daughters Catherine Sylvester, Carolyn Morton, and son Christopher; daughter in-law Alison;7 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.  A mass will be held for him on Thursday, February 16, 2012, 2:00 pm at Our Lady of the Rosary Cathedral, 2525 North Arrowhead Avenue, San Bernardino, California, 92405. Additionally, a memorial will be held for him Wednesday, February 22, 2012, 1:15 pm at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Boulevard, Riverside, California, 92518. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital would be appreciated.

Shirley A. Penfield

Shirley A. Penfield, 79, of Dunnellon Florida, Oak Bend Village, formerly from Basom NY, passed away Saturday January 28, 2012.

Shirley Penfield was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, William C. Penfield.

She was born April 18, 1932 in Buffalo, NY daughter of the late Charles and Marian Naedele.

Shirley was retired from the Sylvania Plant in NY, and from Winter Haven Hospital, FL.
She was also a member of the Batavia Bridle and Saddle Club and 4-H Club.  Shirley served as the Treasurer, Secretary and Events Coordinator for the Oakbend Village since 1991 where she also wrote and published the monthly newsletter and calendar.  Mrs. Penfield was active in the community and did volunteer work at the Dunnellon Middle School PAWS program. Sadly, her beloved sister, Audrey K. Allein of Corfu, passed away just two weeks after her on February 11, 2012.

Survivors include her two daughters, Judy (Michael) Eadie of Rush, NY and Susan (Richard) Roper of DE; two sons, Charles (Bernadette) Penfield of Batavia, NY and Randy (Tamara) Penfield of Davenport, FL; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Family and Friends are invited to attend the celebration of the lives of Shirley and her sister Audrey at C. B. Beach & Son Mortuary, Inc., Corfu on Thursday Feb. 16th from 4-8 pm.  A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 AM Feb 17th  at St. Maximilion Kolbe Church (St. Francis site) 18 West Main St., Corfu. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cheektowaga NY. Burial arrangements made by the National Cremation Society and CB Beach and Son Mortuary.

Audrey K. Allein (Naedele)

CORFU - Audrey K. Allein, of Corfu, NY died suddenly while vacationing at her sisters home in Florida on Feb 11, 2012.

Audrey was born Nov 22, 1934 in Buffalo, NY, the daughter of the late Charles and Marion  Naedele . She attended and graduated from Kensington High School in 1952.

Audrey married Richard T. Allein Sept. 24, 1955.  They lived in Buffalo until 1993 when they moved to Corfu to be close to their son and family.
Audrey retired from Trico in 1995 where she had been an employee for 30 yrs. to spend time with her husband and granddaughter  Kelsey.  After the death of her husband in 1996, Audrey went to work in the cafeteria at Pembroke Central School,  until she retired in 2011.

Audrey ‘s love for life was shared with her family and friends.  She enjoyed hunting, reading, knitting and crocheting and most of all spending time with her grandchildren.

Predeceased by her husband Richard of 40 years and her sister Shirley Penfield of Dunnellon, FL on Jan. 28, 2012.

Survived by her Best Friend and granddaughter Kelsey (Nick Stephan) Allein, daughter Deborah (Daniel) Simpkins of Dunnellon FL, son Richard J (Julie) Allein of Corfu, grandsons Justin(Charlene) Simpkins of Dunnellon FL, and Jared (Leah Wallesverd) Simpkins of Crystal River, FL, Beloved niece Judy(Mike ) Eadie of Rush, NY, “great” nephews Brian Eadie and Kevin Eadie, both of Rush, NY, great grandchildren Caden, Ella, Baily and Mason Simpkins of Dunnellon, FL and several other nieces and nephews all of whom she loved dearly.

Family and friends of Audrey and her sister Shirley are invited to C. B. Beach & Son Mortuary Inc., Corfu, where a celebration of the bond they shared all through their lives will be held Thursday Feb 16th  from 4-8pm

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 AM Friday Feb 17th at St. Maximilion Kolbe Church (St. Francis site) 18 West Main St., Corfu, followed by interment at Evergreen Hill Cemetery.

Nicholas A. Della Penna

Nicholas A. Della Penna, 66, of Batavia, died Tuesday (February 14, 2012) at United Memorial Medical Center.

He was born in Batavia on December 20, 1945, a son of the late Salvatore and Angelina Scafetta Della Penna.

Mr. Della Penna was the former proprietor of Nick's Pizzeria in Attica and Batavia.  He was a dedicated fan of the NY Yankees and the San Francisco 49rs. He enjoyed boxing, cooking, hunting, fishing bicycling and watching old classic movies. 

Surviving is his wife of over 47 years, Sandra L. Fryer Della Penna whom he married on January 16, 1965.  His children, Lisa (Dennis) Say, Nicholas (DAUN) Della Penna, Salvatore (Candice) Della Penna all of Batavia and Michael (Michelle) Barclay of Oakfield.  Five grand daughters: Nicole and Amanda Della Penna, Angelina Say, Kaylene and Jessica Barclay. His mother in law, Florence Fryer of Batavia.  He is the brother in law of: Anthony (late Geraldine) Kasmarek, Jimmy Fryer, Robert (Elizabeth) Fryer, Margaret (late Irvin) Fryer, David (Sue) Fryer and the late Gloria and Marvin Dilcher.  He is the brother of the late, Rosalie Collar and Salvatore Della Penna.

Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

FRANCES L. WYDER

Age 88, of Batavia, formerly of Basom, died peacefully Wednesday morning February 15, 2012 at the New York State Veterans Home @ Batavia. She was born September 13, 1923 in Holt, Michigan, daughter of the late Colonel & Edith (Thoma) Pettit. Mrs. Wyder was a former member of St. Padre Pio Parish and worked for Fisher Price prior to her retirement. She loved to travel with her husband and enjoyed trips to the casino.

Surviving is her beloved husband of 58 years Stanley Wyder of Batavia; son Harold (Sherrie) Howard Jr. of Florida; daughters Diane LeBlanc of Plainfield, CT, Cheryl Haas of Batavia and Deborah (Ronald) Muntz of Basom; brother Lloyd (Ellen) Pettit of Washington State; sisters Leona (Carl) Ordway & Kathy (Joseph) Urban both of Getzville, NY; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

MARY A. FALKOWSKI

Age 90, of Batavia, died peacefully in her sleep Monday evening February 13, 2012. She was born January 1, 1922 in Bennington, NY daughter of the late Anthony & Mary (Novak) Wawrzyniak, also preceded in death by her husband Joseph J. Falkowski in 2005, son Joseph H. Falkowski Sr., daughter Bernadette Falkowski, grandson Robert Prinzi and many brothers & sisters. Mary was a beautician at Viola's Beauty Shop for many years, a member of Ascension Parish and its Altar & Rosary Society. She was devoted to her family and to Polish traditions, loved to cook, bake and crochet.

Surviving is a daughter Teresa (Sam) Prinzi of Colorado; grandchildren Lisa Falkowski, Michelle Prinzi, Joseph H. (Renee) Falkowski Jr. & Sam Prinzi; great-grandchildren Joe, Faith, Jeremy, Jessie & Jordan; sister-in-law Katherine Wawrzyniak of Alden along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

Family and friends may visit from 4-8 PM Thursday February 16 at the Michael S. Tomaszewski Funeral & Cremation Chapel, LLC 4120 West Main Street Road Batavia, New York 14020 where prayers will be recited 9:30 AM Friday February 17 followed by a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Ascension Parish (Sacred Heart Site).
