Rosanne Marie "Zooch" Wray

By T.J. Woodward
z

We are saddened to announce the passing of our beloved mother Rosanne Marie Wray on May10th, 2025, at the age of 80.  A devoted mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and unbeatable presence, she leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, humor, and unconditional love.

Rosanne, affectionately known as “Zooch” was born in Batavia on January 25, 1945, to the late Salvatore and Domenica (Dorothy) Zanghi. She grew up on the south-side and had a vibrant soul with a larger-than-life personality.  Her family was her heart; she was the oldest sister to her brothers, Phillip and David, and her sisters Michelle and Mary Ellen.  Their closeness was special in many ways, forged with Italian family traditions, shared mischief, and unwavering support.

Her dedication to family extended to her children and grandchildren, whom she poured endless amounts of energy into creating the best possible environment for our family.  As a grandmother she did absolutely everything she could to express her love and support.  Zooch was always her grandchildren’s biggest champion, attending their football, baseball, softball, and cheerleading events.  Rain or shine, in New York or California, she would be in the stands famously shaking a plastic milk jug with pennies cheering them on.

Zooch’s lifelong friendships were a testament to her loyalty and zest for life.  Friends from her childhood, neighborhood, St. Anthony’s and Notre Dame remained by her side all throughout her life, she enjoyed their special bond and experiences:  Friday night card club, “Just Missed” Beauty Pageants, Girls Bus Trips to NYC for the Feast of St. Gennaro, Oscar Night parties, and many more. We watched all these years as she danced, told jokes, laughed, and cried with all her friends and our family, these moments will last forever in our hearts.

Remaining to cherish Rosanne’s memory is her daughter, Melissa Wray, son, Robert (Bobby) Wray (Beth), sister, Michelle Gaylord, uncle, Tony Tenebruso (Marcia), aunt, Mickey Grazioplene; and grandchildren, Ajia, Nicco, Lola, Jaxson, great-grandchildren, Maddox, and Hazley, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Phillp Zanghi, David Zanghi, and sister, Mary Ellen Wilber.
