James L. Beach

Batavia - James L. Beach, 74, of Batavia, a mechanic at George Smith Motors, prior to his retirement, passed away Friday, (August 26, 2016) at the Genesee County Nursing Home, in Batavia.

Mr. Beach was born May 14, 1942 in Wellsville, a son of the late Laverne J. and Ethel M. (Atkinson) Beach.

Mr. Beach was a long time member of City Church in Batavia, and took great pride in the church's Bus Ministry.  He was a farmer and mechanic along with being an avid Buffalo Bills Fan.  He enjoyed tractor pulls, car racing, and motorcycles; but most of all, he cherished time spent with his family.  His wife, children, and grandchildren were truly his world and no matter what - they came first. 

He is the husband of Dorothy (King) Beach of Batavia.  The two were married in Byron on June 29, 1963.

Surviving along with his wife are his children, Ella (Sterling) Stroman, Robin (Henry) Cook, James L. (Rebecca) Beach II all of Batavia, Christopher (fiance Michele Diehl) Beach of Depew, and Matthew (Corrie) Beach of Batavia; brothers, Albert Beach, Bruce Beach both of Avon and Roger (Phyllis) Beach of Mt. Morris; sisters, Edna (Ted) VanSon of Avon, Gladys (Stephen) Luce of Scottsville, and Cynthia (late Gary) Knapp of Caledonia.  21 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at City Church, 210 East Main Street, Batavia, where James’ Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, (August 31, 2016). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to City Church - Bus Ministry, 210 East Main Street, Batavia, NY 14020.  Burial will be in Stafford Rural Cemetery, Stafford.

Jeannette Kriner

Jeanette Kriner, 93, of Linden, NY passed away on August 25, 2016 with her family by her side at Brothers of Mercy in Clarence. She was born on August 1, 1923 in Batavia to the late Howard and Rena “Irene” (Hale) Tooley and spent her formative years in Oakfield, NY.  She is predeceased by her husband Alden “Bob” Kriner who she was married to for 54 years and beloved daughter Lorena Jean Kriner who passed away in 1978.

Her life revolved around Jesus Christ, Bob, and her loving family. Jeannette & Bob raised their 4 children in Linden over the past 65 years surrounded and supported by many lifelong friends and neighbors. Jeannette was a faithful member of West Middlebury Baptist Church for over 65 years and served on many board positions, most recently the Memorial Committee.  While primarily working with Bob, who was a local builder, she especially enjoyed her last job and acquaintances at the Tonawanda Valley Federal Credit Union for many years, until she retired in 2003.

Jeannette is remembered and will be dearly missed by her sons Gary (Joanna) Kriner of Clarence; Robert (Linda) Kriner of Elma; Tom Kriner of North Carolina; her 4 grandchildren Joshua (Tiffany), Lisa (Nathan), Zachary (Melissa), Emily (Eric); and her 7 great-grandchildren.

RACHEL M. UBANEY

RACHEL M. UBANEY

Age 72, of Batavia, went peacefully to her Lord on Friday August 26, 2016 at United Memorial Medical Center. She was born December 4, 1943 in Dunkirk, NY a daughter of the late Samuel and Philomena "Fannie" (Zappi) Barone also preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Anthony "NeNe"(Lorraine) Barone. 

Mrs. Ubaney worked for many years as a recording secretary at Batavia Downs. She enjoyed many years of camping at Lei Ti Campground and was devoted to her family and friends. 

Surviving is her beloved husband of 48 years, Frank J. Ubaney, Sr. of Batavia; loving sons, Frank J. (Brenda) Ubaney II of Churchville and Nicholas Ubaney of Las Vegas, NV; siblings, Theresa (Paul) Leone of Dunkirk, Kathy (Mark) Dimmer of Dunkirk, Patrick (Susan) Barone of Long Island along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Mrs. Ubaney's family will be present from 4-8PM on Tuesday August 30 at the MICHAEL S. TOMASZEWSKI FUNERAL & CREMATION CHAPEL, LLC 4120 WEST MAIN STREET ROAD BATAVIA, NEW YORK 14020, please join her family 10:00AM Wednesday August 31at Ascension Parish (corner of Swan & Sumner Sts.) to celebrate her Mass of Christian Burial. Stephen C. Dermody

Stephen C. Dermody, 77, of Bergen, NY passed away on Thursday August 25, 2016 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Stephen was born on January 16, 1939 in Ogden, NY to the late Joseph and Josephine (Steigerwald) Dermody. He is predeceased by his son Michael Dermody, a brother, John Dermody and sister, Elin Covalciuc.

Stephen was a United States Air Force Veteran. He retired from Kodak where he worked in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning after 25 years then went to work for Terry Hills Golf Course where he worked for another 20 years. He loved golfing, gardening, and hunting and was very active in the Bergen Evangelical Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his loving wife Joan (Cave) Dermody of Bergen; sons Gregory Dermody of Le Roy and Timothy (Reba) Dermody of Sierra Vista, AZ; daughter Wendy (Chad) Caccamise of Batavia; sisters Judith (Robert) Zangas of MO, Naomi Dermody Hanlon of Glens Falls and Christine (Ray) Sexton of Greece, NY; sister-in-law Jeanne Dermody of Elba; 8 grandchildren, Katelyn Dermody and Shannon Dermody, Justin (April) Johansen, Sara (Michael) Borlaug Jennifer (Sean) Barrett, Jared Dermody, Stephen (Katherine) Christner, Emily Caccamise; 6 great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

Mildred C. George

Mildred C. George, 93, formally of Sheldon, NY passed away surrounded by her family on Tuesday August 23, 2016 at Pines Health Care in Machias. She was born November 2, 1922 in Strykersville, NY to the late Raymond and Bernadine (Petz) Schiltz. Mrs. George is preceded in death by her husband Francis L. George; son Lawrence George; granddaughter Pam Roth; great-granddaughter Nevaeh; sister Margaret Bartz and son-in-law Jack Zittel.

Mildred was a member of St. Cecilia’s Church (St. John Neumann). She was a member of the church choir as well as a member of the Ladies Sodality of Sheldon. She was a graduate of Holland Central School. A wife of a hardworking farmer, she was a great cook, a wonderful mother and great-grandmother who loved her family tremendously.

She is survived by her sons Norman George, Francis (Diana) George and Ronald (Becky) George; daughters Madonna Zittel and Melanie (Dave) Rayner; daughter-in-law Becky George all of Sheldon; brother Carl Schiltz of Strykersville; Sister Florence Ziegler of Arcade; 24 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

Paul Keller

Paul Keller (Michael P. Keller), 68, of Batavia passed away peacefully on August 22, 2016 at Crossroads House with his wife, Karen Keller by his side. He was born November 5, 1947 in Batavia, NY to the late Earl J. (Luella Kilner) Keller. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a son-in-law Gerald Flores.

What Paul enjoyed most was spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband and worked hard most of his life to provide for his family. He invested and sacrificed so willingly into the lives of his children and grandchildren. He was a very faithful member at Calvary Baptist Church for over 33 years and loved to serve wherever he could. His children were all actively involved there as well and all five are still in church serving the Lord.  He may be absent from this world but we know that he is alive and well in Heaven looking down with great pride and joy. He would often brag and boast to friends and family with a twinkle in his eye about his 24 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, who literally were the loves of his life and a tremendous legacy to leave behind.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Karen (Wight) Keller of Corfu who had been married for almost 49 years; sons Mathew (Vicki) Keller and Jason (Corrie) Keller; Daughters Lori Flores, Stacy (Ken) Lake, Abby (Nate) Lake; 2 siblings Sharron and Charles; his pride and joy 24 grandchildren; Jennifer Flores, Ricky Flores, Kenneth Lake IV, Zak (Chelsea) Keller, Ryan Lake, Michael (Amy) Flores, Steven (Taylor) Lake, Emily Keller, Hannah Flores, Katelyn Lake, David Flores, Alyssa Lake, Elijah Lake, Malachi Lake, Caleb Lake, Adrian Lake, Paul Keller, Ethan Lake, Bailey Lake, Anthony Lake, Seth Keller, Azaiah, Miranda Lake and Joy Keller and 4 great-grandchildren Amelia and Cassidy Keller, Parker Lewis and Mia Flores.

AUDREY L. PLOUSE

Oakfield - Audrey L. Plouse, 90, of Oakfield, passed away on Monday, August 22, 2016 at the Batavia Health Care Center, LLC.

Mrs. Plouse was born April 29, 1926 in Sagamore, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Elwood and Irene Anderson Caylor.

Mrs. Plouse traveled extensively, loved reading and spending time with her dog Trouble. She spent much time socializing with her many friends she met while playing Bingo. She worked for many years at G.T.E. Sylvania in Batavia and was the first female hired to work in the maintenance department for the company.

Her husband, Arthur C.  Plouse, passed away in 1978.

She is survived by her children, Cliff (Rita) Plouse of Oakfield and Sandra Shutt of Jefferson City, Missouri; two grandsons, George and William Shutt; her sister, Ruth Yeomans of Creekside, Pennsylvania and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Avenue, Oakfield. Private graveside services will be held at Cary Cemetery. Celia C. Ratulowski

Batavia - Celia C. Ratulowski, 97, of Batavia, passed away on Tuesday (August 23, 2016) at the Genesee County Nursing Home in Batavia.

Celia was born November 11, 1918 in Forks, NY, a daughter of the late Anthony and Gladys (Sulinski) Slominski.

A member of Resurrection Parish, Celia enjoyed bingo, cooking, word searches and bicycling.  She will be remembered for baking her excellent pies.  Celia was a press operator at R.E. Chapin Manufacturing in Batavia.

Survivors include her children, Gloria (the late Monty) Andrews and Ronald (Kathy) Ratulowski, both of Batavia; two sisters, Regina Hovey of East Pembroke and Irene Yourkovic of Florida and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and nieces and nephews.

Celia is the wife of the late Aloysius C. Ratulowski and mother of the late Jean Metz.  She is a sister of the late Anthony Slominski, Stanley Slominski, Pearl Tatko, Rita Boring, Wanda Tempio and Helen Best.  

Family and friends may call on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main St., Batavia.  Prayers will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 9:00 a.m. followed by Celia’s Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Resurrection Parish - St. Joseph's Church, 303 East Main Street, Batavia.  She will be laid to rest in Elmwood Cemetery, Batavia.

Michelle G. Robb

Michelle G. Robb, 58, of Corfu passed away on Monday August 22, 2016 at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. She was born on November 14, 1957 in Buffalo to the late James and Audrey (Ashburn) Little.     

Michelle enjoyed country music, watching Ghost Hunters and especially spending time with her friends and family.

She is survived by her husband, Randy Robb of Corfu; step-children Jennifer (Jason) Waldron of Batavia and Christopher (Meg) Robb of Charleston, SC; siblings Dawn Mango, Colleen Little and James (Rolinda) Little; 5 step grandchildren Jacob, Meghan and Madison Swiatowy,  Austin and Landon Robb; 1 great grandson Bryson Swiatowy along with several nieces and nephews.

Nancy J. Johnson

Nancy J. Johnson, 75 of Akron, passed away peacefully on Sunday (August 21, 2016) at Brothers of Mercy Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clarence, NY. 

She was born December of 1940 in Batavia, NY, a daughter of the late Jack and Gladys Rogers Balduf. 

Nancy was a postal carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Akron prior to her retirement. 

Survivors include her three children, Sue (Scott) Bates, JoAnn (Dave) Stahli and John Falker.Grandchildren, Ted (Beth) Getman, Dan Getman, Melanie (Rob) Tumminello, Hillary Bates (Kyle Paille) and John and Jack Falker. Also survived by 3 great-grandchildren; sisters, Karen King and JoAnne (Paul) Tenney and many nieces and nephews. 

She was the sister of the late Robert Balduf and Barbara Meyer.

Betty J. Worthington

Betty J. Worthington, 71 of Batavia, passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday August 20, 2016 at Wyoming County Nursing Facility in Warsaw. She was born May 16, 1945 in Robinson, PA to to the late David (Freda Johns) Little. She is preceded in death by a grandson Justin Jacobs.

Mrs. Worthington owned Betty’s Ceramics where she not only sold ceramics but taught classes as well. She enjoyed country music, canning, cooking, baking, and traveling especially long rides in the country. Betty loved spending time with her family.  

She is survived by her beloved husband John S. Worthington of Batavia; daughters Winifred (Scott) Gildner of Alexander; Anna (Ray) Patnode of Batavia; Patty Jacobs of Alexander; son Ken (Bonnie) Worthington of FL; siblings Mary Graham, Winnie Wawrzyniak, David (Chiquita) Little all of Batavia; Paul (Linda) Little of Elba; Patty Little of Batavia; 13 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

Josephine J. Lawall

Josephine J. Lawall, 93 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Saturday (August 20, 2016) at United Memorial Medical Center.

She was born March 19, 1923, in Boston, NY, a daughter of the late Martin and Anna Zymowski Jagusiak.

Josephine was employed by Mallory Timers in Warsaw, NY prior to her retirement. She was also a waitress for the Glen Iris Inn in Letchworth State Park and at one time along with her husband operated a popcorn concession stand at the former Boulder Park in Indian Falls, NY. Josephine enjoyed playing cards, knitting, crocheting, dancing, gardening and cooking.

She was the wife of the late Norman J. Lawall who died in 1978 and sister of the late Evelyn Balcerzak, Florence Stalica, Anthony Jagusiak, Chester Jagusiak, Sophie Grzybek and Clara Puzan.

Survivors include one sister, Irene Lewandowski of Batavia and several nieces and nephews.

Francesco A. "Frank" Antinoro

LeRoy ~ Francesco A. "Frank" Antinoro, age 91, of Lake Street, went to be with the Lord on Thursday (August 18, 2016) surrounded by his loving family, at United Memorial Medical Center.

     He was born June 24, 1925 in Cianciana, Sicily, a son of the late Antonino and Maria Assunta Condissa Antinoro.

     Before coming to America in 1960 with his family, he served in the Italian military.  As a youth, he developed a passion for gardening, he brought that passion to America.  He loved spending time with his family and friends.  He always spoke of his homeland of Sicily, which was forever instilled in his heart.

     He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Filippa Costa Antinoro; children, Maria Sue (Sam) DeFazio, Elisabetta "Lee" Antinoro-O'Gee (Mark) of LeRoy and Antonino Antinoro of Fairport; grandchildren, Rob (Emily) DeFazio, Annemarie (Sean) Mulkeen, Sam (Brighan) DeFazio, Lisa (Curtis) Hampton, Frank Antinoro, Carly (Josh) Antinoro, Dan O'Gee, Mark (Mayumi) O'Gee and Kristin O'Gee; 11 Great-Grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Frank & Rose Ciliberto, Roxy & Josephine Ferrara, Paul Costa, Joe & Kathy Costa, Bruno & Lee DeFazio, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

     In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his mother and father-in-law, Frank and Elisabetta Costa and his granddaughter, Amanda Antinoro.

Betty R. Harris

Betty R. Harris, 77, of Oakfield passed away surrounded by her family on Wednesday August 17, 2016 at her home. She was born July 21, 1939 in Batavia to the late Joseph (Mary) Ruffino. Mrs. Harris is preceded in death by her son Scott Harris; brothers Harry, Larry and Anthony; sisters Laura Spadacino and Sarah Ficarella.

Mrs. Harris was a woman of faith as a member of St Padre Pio in Oakfied and the former St. Anthony's in Batavia. She is retired from Comstock foods, Strippit and was a beloved “lunch lady” at Batavia Middle School.  Betty was a long time member of the OOYC. She was a devoted wife, mother, Noni, and great-Noni. Family was everything to her.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years, Jack M. There will be no prior calling hours. An 11:00AM Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday August 23, 2016 at St. Padre Pio Parish 56 Maple Ave. Oakfield, NY 14125. She will be laid to rest in St. Cecilia’s Cemetery, Oakfield.

Howard A. Janas

Bergen - Howard A. Janas, 91, of Bergen, passed away Tuesday, (August 16, 2016) at New York State Veteran's Home, in Batavia, following a brief illness.

Mr. Janas was born June 20, 1925 in Garfield, NJ, a son of the late Frank and Mary (Wutsch) Janas.

Howard served his country honorably during World War II with the Marine Corps.  He was a member of the Bergen United Methodist Church and the Bergen Fire Department.  He worked for Gerber Foods for 30 years, followed by 15 years at Wegmans, both in Rochester. 

He is the husband of the late Mary J. (Pratt) Janas who passed away in 2008.

Mr. Janas is survived by his children, Duane Janas of Bergen, Dale (Laura) Janas of Clifton Springs, Dianne (Bob) Van Dunk of GA, and Karen Janas of Bergen; grandchildren, Scott (Sarah) Janas of Clifton Springs, Sarah (Jason) Nackley of NC, and Dennis (Jennifer Kane) Janas of Chili; great-grandchildren, Aiden and Harper Janas, Keeley and Emerson Nackley.

Along with his wife, Howard is preceded in death by his twin brother, Frank as well as his sister, Jan Perrine.

Family and Friends may call on Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 51 S. Lake St., Bergen.  Howard’s Funeral Service will be held on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Bergen United Methodist Church, 27 S. Lake St., Bergen.  He will be laid to rest beside his wife in Mt. Rest Cemetery, Bergen.
