Robert L. Edson

Robert L. "Buster" Edson, 70, of East Bethany, died Tuesday  (October 4,2011) at his residence.

 He was born in Springwater, NY on July 20, 1941, a son of the late Arthur and Nina Warden Edson.

 Mr. Edson worked for many years as a mechanic for Lor-Rob Farms in E. Bethany.

 Surviving is his wife of over 49 years, Clara French Edson.  A daughter, Tammy (Phillip) Blake of Eau Claire, PA.  Three sons, Ronald F. (fiance, Pam) Edson of Wyoming, NY, Robin L. (Cheryl) Edson of Emlenton, PA and Brian A. (Tracy) Edson of Syracuse, NY.  Nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, great niece Rachael Brown, great, great grand nieces and nephews.

 Visitation will be Sunday from 7 -9PM and Monday from 10 to 11AM at the J. Leonard McAndrew Funeral Home, LLC., 2 Bogue Ave., Batavia where services will follow. 

 Interment will be in Mitchellsville Cemetery,  Mitchellsville, NY.

 Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the family.

June M. Randall

June M. Randall, 89 of Silver Springs, died October 3, 2011 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital. She was born June 18, 1922 in Java, NY to the late Carlisle (Finis Bush) Graves. Mrs. Randall started her early education in a one-room schoolhouse on Michigan Rd in Curriers and graduated from Arcade High School. She furthered her education at Bryant and Stratton Institute in Buffalo, followed by a position as accountant/bookkeeper for the Grange League Federation (GLF) in Perry, where she met her husband and farm partner. She and Burdette A. Randall were married on June 17, 1944 and the 65 years that followed, found them working together on their dairy and cash crops farm in the Town of Castile.
          She was an active member of Wyoming County Home Bureau, Farm Bureau and a member of the Silver Springs United Methodist Church, where she served as a member of the choir for decades. She served as bookkeeper for her husband who was Castile Town Supervisor and was an Election’s Inspector for years. Mrs. Randall was extremely proud of her agricultural heritage and their place in an active farming community. She found great pleasure in raising chickens and peddled eggs locally for years. Family members and legions of friends remember her as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She seemed to have ceaseless energy and a capacity to help anyone or any domestic animal in need. She is preceded in death by her brother Carl L. Graves; husband Burdette A. Randall who died in 2009. 

She is survived by her daughter Jane. A. (Richard) Eliasz of Castile; sons Norman C. (Susan) Randall of Castile; Eric A. (Eleanor) Randall of Alexander; sister-in-law Margaret Graves of Java; grandchildren Molly, Maggie, Nellie, Emily, Jesse and Rebecca; great-grandchildren Bailey, Jacqueline, Fiona and Robert, along with several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call on Sunday October 9, 2011 from 2 to 6 PM at Eaton-Watson Funeral Home, LLC. 98 North Main St. Perry, NY 14530. 10:00 AM funeral services will be held on Monday October 10, 2011 at the Silver Springs United Methodist Church 11 Church St. Silver Springs, NY 14550. Interment will take place in Maple Grove Cemetery, Gainesville, NY.

Floralyn Lawrence

Batavia - Floralyn Lawrence, 92, of Batavia, formerly of Corfu, passed away Sunday (October 2, 2011).

Mrs. Lawrence was born September 27, 1919, in Indian Falls, a daughter of the late Lewis and Flora Hint Johnson. She was a member of the Corfu United Presbyterian Church, the Corfu Grange and was a former 4-H leader. One of Mrs. Lawrence's favorite pastimes was reading.  She was also well known for her pie making skills. Mrs. Lawrence was predeceased in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, Ralph H. Lawrence, who passed away November 9, 2008 and her brother Robert Basom.

Survivors include her dear children, Richard (the late Judith) Lawrence of Arlington, Texas, Donna (Albert) Bangert of Scituate, Mass., Roxanne (Scott) Ross of Corfu, Bill (Annie) Lawrence of Corfu and Joan Pask of Batavia; nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; a brother, Richard (Shirley) Basom of Rochester; two sister-in-laws, Dorothy Basom of California and Irma Jean (late Richard) Hill of Binghamton; a brother-in-law, Glenn (late Marjorie) Lawrence of Bergen; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call Saturday 2 to 3:30 PM at the C. B. Beach & Son Mortuary, Inc. 4-6 main Street, Corfu. Funeral services will follow at 3:30 PM. John F. Ladd

John F. Ladd, 63, of Batavia, died Tuesday (October 4, 2011) at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.

 He was born in Batavia on December 21, 1947 a son of Anna Mae Ladd. 

 Mr. Ladd was employed for 32 years at Oatka Milk Products in Batavia prior to his retirement.

 Surviving is his loving wife of 42 years, Judy Ann Munt Ladd.  A son, John Jr. (fiancee, Melissa Beverly) Ladd.  Three grandchildren, Gage, Dillon and Megan.  Several cousins also survive.

 Friends may call Saturday (Oct. 8, 2011) from 2 - 5 PM at the J. Leonard McAndrew Funeral Home, LLC., 2 Bogue Ave., Batavia.  Services will be private. Burial  will be in Grand View Cemetery.

 Memorial contributions maybe made to the family for distribution to various charities.

Concetta Corbelli

Concetta Corbelli, 82, of Batavia passed away Monday (Oct. 3, 2011) surrounded by her loving family at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

She was born in Perry, NY on October 24, 1928, a daughter of the late Joseph Sr. and Carmella Catalanni Mazzarella.

Mrs. Corbelli was a member of St. Padre Peio Parish in Oakfield and the parish Altar and Rosary Society. In her earlier years she was employed by Rockwell Intl. in California, Rochester Products, Endicott & Johnson Shoes in Batavia and Fay's Drugs in Batavia. She enjoyed sewing, crafts and being with her family.

Surviving are four daughters, Kathleen T. Corbelli of Mesa, AZ, Christina M.(Gary) Fredo of Oakfield, Bernadette (Gerald) Easton of Basom and Ann Marie (Robert) Versaggi of Oakfield.   Six grandchildren, Jessica and Alicia Fredo, Eric and Shawn Easton and Ashley and Jeremy Versaggi.  Two great grand children Jazmyn and Parker Dobson.  Two brothers, Frank (Marie) Mazzarella and Gerlando "Dula" (Patricia) Mazzarella all of Perry.  A sister in law, Jenny Mazzarella of Batavia.

She was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be Thursday from 1 - 3 and 5 - 7 at the J. Leonard McAndrew Funeral Home, LLC, 2 Bogue Ave., Batavia where prayers will be Friday at 9:15 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at St. Padre Peio Parish, 56 Maple Ave., Oakfield.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Nacy Theresa Pastore

Nacy Theresa Pastore, 92, of Batavia, died Thursday (September 29, 2011) at United Memorial Medical Center.

She was born in Batavia on May 29, 1919, a daughter of the late James and Jennie Ricotta.

Her husband, Nicholas "Jim" Pastore died on May 28, 1998.

Mrs. Pastore was a sales clerk at the former W.T. Grant Co. of Batavia and was a line worker at GTE Sylvania prior to her retirement in 1975.

She was a member of Resurrection Parish and enjoyed bingo and playing cards.

Surviving is a son, Bob (Karen) Pastore of Batavia.  Five grandchildren, Bill (Michelle) Pastore, Bob Pastore, Michael (Kathy) Pastore, Chrissy (Joe) Prucha and Debby (Mike) Riggi.
Five great grandchildren, James, Cassidy, Valerie, Masha and Chloe.
A sister, Sarina Barone of Rochester.

She is the mother of the late James Pastore who died in 1997 and sister of the late Joseph Ricotta.

Visitation will be Monday (10/3/11) from 8AM to 9:15AM at the J. Leonard McAndrew Funeral Home, LLC, 2 Bogue Ave., Batavia where prayers will follow.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10AM at Resurrection Parish, (St. Mary's Church). Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials may be made to the Genesee County ARC, 64 Walnut St., Batavia, NY 14020 or to a charity of the donors preference.

Gwendolyn M. Smith

LeRoy - Gwendolyn M. Smith 93, of LeRoy, formerly of Corfu, passed away Sunday (September 25, 2011) at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home.

Miss Smith was born June 5, 1918, in Pembroke, NY, a daughter of the late Cassimer and Ruby Silliman Smith.  She worked for Wilsey's Nursery for many years.

Survivors include many cousins and her dear friend and companion Eddie Conibear of Albion.

Family and friends may call Friday from 1:30 - 2:30 PM at the C. B. Beach & Son Mortuary, Inc. 4-6 Main St., Corfu. Services will follow at 2:30 PM. Burial will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Corfu.

Douglas C. Kempf

Corfu - Douglas C. Kempf, 74 of Corfu, passed away Monday (September 26, 2011) at the home of his sister while under Hospice care.

Doug was born July 11, 1937, in North Pembroke, a son of the late Elmer K. and Emma Brady Kempf.

Doug worked for over 39 years for National Fuel in Batavia. He was a devoted member of Mogadore Chapel, served as a volunteer and fire police with the East Pembroke Fire Department and proudly participated in the Ride for Roswell for seven years.  Doug had a passion for gardening and also enjoyed fishing. He also served in the Coast Guard Reserves for eight years. He was the brother of the late Donald Kempf.

Surviving is his beloved wife of 45 years, Linda (Knapp) Kempf of Corfu; a daughter, Dawn Kempf of Batavia: his sister, Loretta Kempf (Gary) Cain of Corfu: a niece, a nephew and a few cousins also survive.

Family and friends may call Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the C. B. Beach & Son Mortuary, Inc. 4-6 Main Street, Corfu. Funeral services will be held thursday at 11 AM at the Mogadore Chapel 8063 North Pembroke Road, Batavia, NY 14020.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church in Doug's memory.

JAMES G. FASANO

Age 79, of Batavia, was called home peacefully Monday evening September 26, 2011 at home surrounded by his family. He was born May 25, 1932 in Batavia, son of the late Genaro & Antoinette "Lulu" (Penta) Fasano, also preceded in death by brothers Patrick, Angelo & Genaro; sisters Lorraine (late John) Nowaka, Deanne (late John) Muscarella and Marcelene Drage. Mr. Fasano was a United States Army Veteran who served in Germany from 1956-1958 with the 62nd Tank Battalion attached to the 10th Mountain Division, a member of the VFW Post #1602 where he was Post Commander from 68-69. I lifelong member of Ascension Parish he worked 45 years at the Marshall's Newsstand. Jim was active in youth sports as a Minor League Baseball Caoch, participated in softball leagues, one of the founders of Batavia High Schools Touchdown Club, and was a Golden Gloves Champ going undefeated in 13 fights. He was very family, community & politically oriented serving as the Safety Chairman of Jackson School in 1969, Crime Prevention & Transportation Boards, spent many years on the County Republican Committee, ward 6 Republican Chairman for many years and in 1986 received the Citizenship Award from the City of Batavia Firefighters for his work establishing the former Rescue Squad. Jim was a WWII buff and an extremely knowledgeable sports enthusiast. An accomplished family man he lived by the code of God, Country, Family, was extremely proud of his boys and grandchildren and deeply devoted to his wife. He took great pride in his home and his roots to Batavia & Genesee County always giving back to them, never asking for anything in return.

Surviving is his beloved wife of 56 years Joan (Torcello) Fasano of Batavia; 2 sons Jimmy john (Margaret "Maggie") and David (Rachel) both of Batavia; brother Anthony "Butch" (Shirley) Fasano of Batavia and sister Kathleen "Kay" Alianell of Rochester; sisters-in-law Win of New Mexico, Mary & Harriett both of Batavia; 2 grandchildren Benjamin James (Kimberly) Fasano of Elba & Jenna Marie (Kevin) Arroyo of Batavia and their children Addison Marie & Jonah Fasano-Arroyo; brother-in-law William Drage of Ohio along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews, great-great nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family and friends may visit from 3-8 PM Friday September 30, 2011 at the Michael S. Tomaszewski Funeral & Cremation Chapel, LLC 4120 West Main Street Road Batavia, New York where prayers will be recited 9:15 AM followed by a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Ascension Parish (St. Anthony's Site). Woodrow Wilson Wilt

Woodrow Wilson Wilt "Woody", 96 of Bergen, died Saturday (September 24, 2011) at United Memorial Medical Center.

He was born July 28, 1915 in Williamsport, PA.

Woodrow was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and held various occupations during his life.

He is survived by friends in the Bergen area, including John and Natalie Peevey.

Private services and interment will take place in Bath National Cemetery with full military honors.

CLAUDETTE "MICKEY" BIEGASIEWICZ

Age 81, of Batavia, died peacefully Monday afternoon September 26, 2011 at the New  York State Veterans Home @ Batavia. She was born April 30, 1930 in Batavia, daughter of the late Nicholas & Rose (Syracuse) Martino, also preceded in death by two brothers Anthony & Joseph Martino and sister Grace Biegas. Mrs. Biegasiewicz is a longtime member of Resurrection Parish (St. Joseph's) and loved her friends, family, grandchildren & great-grandchildren. Mickey enjoyed traveling and shopping.

Surviving is her beloved husband of 61 years Richard Biegasiewicz Sr. of Batavia; 4 sons Richard (Gail) Jr. of Batavia, Gary (Tina) of Tonawanda, Rodney (Jerry) of Niagara Falls and Nicki of Batavia; dear sister Rose Sharp of Batavia; 14 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marlin S. Prentice

Marlin S. Prentice, 91 of Rochester, died September 25, 2011 at the St. John’s Home in Rochester. He was born June 10, 1920 in Warsaw to the late James W. (Grace Bernard) Prentice. Mr. Prentice worked for the New York State Department of Labor for over 20 years. He was a past Elder at the Bergen First Presbyterian Church and in years past he was involved in Stephen Ministries, Odd Fellows. He was a World War II Veteran. Mr. Prentice enjoyed crafts and reading. He is preceded in death by his wife Velma (Dennis) Prentice 2006, brothers Merle, J. Arthur, Alvin Prentice, sisters Marion and Arlene Prentice.
                                                                                                                        
He is survived by son David Prentice of Central Square; daughters Judith (David) Onderdonk of Kendall; Merry (Robert) Hodgson of Medina; Kathleen (Robert) Reynolds of Rochester; foster-sons Darwin (Pamela) Weller of Elba; Darryl Weller of Batavia; sister-in-law Eugenia Prentice of Baldwinsville; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren along with 2 nieces also survive.

Julie A. Stephens

Julie A. Stephens, 54 of Batavia, died September 26, 2011 at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. She was born July 24, 1953, in Batavia to the late Henry (Martha Coniber) Stephens. Julie was a homemaker all of her life, she enjoyed her family to the fullest.

She is survived by 2 sister’s Vanessa (James) Andrews of Batavia; Rosine Gray of Bergen; step-father Werner Raisch of Leroy, NY along with 5 nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior calling hours. Friends are invited to a graveside service 11:00 AM on Tuesday October 4, 2011 at the East Bethany Rural Cemetery. Interment will take place in East Bethany Rural Cemetery.

Victor S. San Fratello

 Victor S. San Fratello, 78 of Batavia, died September 25, 2011 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. He was born October 30, 1932 in Elgin, IL to the late Charles (Laura Blandino)San Fratello. Mr. San Fratello graduated from the University of Buffalo and went to work for General Motors at the Tonawanda Engine Plant as an Industrial Engineer. He was a lifetime member of Ascension Parish-St. Anthony’s Church, member of the Batavia Lion’s Club, and Terry Hills Golf Course. Mr. San Fratello was a Navy Veteran. He was instrumental in starting the Pop Warner Football program in Batavia. Victor loved to play bridge, poker and golf. He is preceded in death by brothers Michael, Jasper, Lawrence, Father Sennen O.F.M, John San Fratello, sisters Mary Colombo, Josephine Siemens, and Grace Curd.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Carol A. (Glenn) San Fratello of Batavia; sons Michael G. (Sarah) of Atlanta, GA; Mark C. (Kimberly) San Fratello of Grafton, MA; daughter Lisa A. (Dr. Richard) McCutcheon of Ithaca; sisters Katherine Gringer of Batavia; Laura J. Bohm of Batavia; 10 grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.

Louise G. McDuffie

Louise G. McDuffie, 83, of Batavia, died Sept. 22, 2011 at the New York State Veterans Home, Batavia.

McDuffie was born July 19, 1928 in Tarboro, N.C. to the late William M. Grimmer and the late Mamie L. (Coburn) Grimmer.

McDuffie served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. She retired from Amtrak in Buffalo.

McDuffie is proceeded in death by her bothers Dennis, Cecil, Mack Grimmer; sisters Faye G. Muchow, Mary Catherine, and Lucy.

She is survived by her son Wesley G. McDuffie of Batavia; grandsons Kevin Bowman of FL; Levi McDuffie of Batavia; sister Melba G. Pomante of Tarboro, NC, along with many  nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior calling hours.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday October 13, 2011 at the Batavia Assembly of God Church 24 North Spruce St. Batavia, New York 14020.

Burial will be private.
