Margaret Mary Majerus

Margaret Mary Majerus, 91 of Batavia, NY. Died March 13, 2011 at the United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. Born November 7, 1919 in North Java, NY. Daughter of the late Julius (Elizabeth Hanley) Grimm. Margaret was housekeeper and cook for over 50 years at St. Joseph’s Rectory in Batavia. She enjoyed her time at St. Joseph’s and became great friends with all of the Priests. She stayed in touch with them throughout the years and felt they were her extended family. For a short time she was a kindergarten teacher at St. Joseph’s School. She never had children of her own but always considered the children she taught as her children. Margaret was truly devoted to the church and attended mass daily. She is preceded in death by her husband Bernard “Barney” Majerus who passed away in 1997; sisters Elizabeth (John) Siler, Geraldine (Dez) Roblee, Eleanor (Francis) Tatarka, and brother Paul Norton.

She is survived by her loving nieces, nephews and godchildren. 

There will be no prior calling hours. A 9:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday March 17, 2011 at Resurrection Parish-St. Joseph’s Church 303 East Main Street Batavia, New York 14020. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Kathleen A. "Kathie" Catino

Kathleen A. “Kathie” Catino, 60 of Batavia, NY. Died March 13, 2011 at her home. Born October 29, 1950 in Batavia, New York. Daughter of the late Howard Hartley and Mary (Kiley) Hartley of Batavia. Kathie was a member of Resurrection Parish-St. Mary’s Church for many years. She truly loved the beach especially the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

She is survived by her husband James G. “Jim” Catino of Batavia; son Cain A. Catino of Rome, NY; daughter Kelly (Robert) Casey of Syracuse; grandchildren Liam, Norah and Finnegan Casey all of Syracuse; brothers Frank (Gretchen) Hartley of Houston, TX; Paul Hartley of CA; Thomas “Gorman” (Pamela) Hartley of Henrietta; Peter (Cindy) Hartley of LeRoy; Howard (Laurie) Hartley of Houston, TX; sisters Susan (Bart) Dambra of LeRoy; Mary Balonek of Virginia Beach, VA; Ann (Joseph) Zawicki of Elba; Eileen (Steve) Vincent of Rockport, TX, along with many nieces and nephews also survive.

Teresa M. Couillard

Teresa M. Couillard, 96 of Batavia. Died March 12, 2011 In the Genesee County Nursing Home, Batavia. Born May 17, 1914 in Saranac, NY, to the late Edward (Lottie Greenwood) Jacobs. 

She is preceded in death by her husband Eugene O. Couillard in 1984, brothers Fred, Lynn, Pearly, Richard, William, Harold and Manard Jacobs; sisters Mildred Salvadore, Maude North, Myrtle Wilsey, Jessie Pratt and Edna Rich.

She is survived by her son Richard (Bernice) Couillard of Batavia; granddaughters Paula Logdson of FL; Lynne Couillard of Webster; Debbie Crossett of Batavia; 6 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.     

No prior calling hours. Services will be private.

 Burial will take place at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Rockhill, CT.

REBECCA JEAN GIBSON

Age 77, of Oakfield, NY, died Sunday afternoon at United Memorial Medical Center. She was born July 20, 1933 in Newmine, PA, daughterof the late Cyrus W. & Rose (Lantz) Moore. She was also preceded in death by her hsuband Ronald G. Gibson Sr. on Dec. 15, 2010; brothers William & John Moore; sisters Minnie Jane Moore, Carrie Hellman, Dorothy Hellman-Davis, Mae Moore, Ruth Moore & Betty L. Kastelic; two great-grandchildren Ally Walker and Evan Ferchen. Mrs. Gibson was an avid bingo player, enjoyed crafts, crocheting, very accomplished at making wedding cakes and in her private, quiet time, loved to read the bible.

     Surviving are her dear children Ronald G. (Deborah) Gibson Jr. of Batavia; Michael L. (Patricia) Gibson of Oakfield; Gloria (Stephen) Ferchen of Lockport; Judith (Frank) Mack of Elba; Susan (Richard) Abraham of Akron & Betty (Lynn) Kirchner of Oakfield. Brothers James (Helen) Moore of Byron; Jack Moore of Florida; brother-in-law Edward Kastelic of Oakfield; sister-in-law Imogene Moore of Arizona; 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild along with many nieces and nephews survive.

GINA T. ORSINI

     Age 95, of Batavia, died peacefully Friday afternoon March 11, 2011 at the Genesee County Nursing Home. She was born April 27, 1915 in Glens Falls, NY, daughter of the late Louis & Mary (Grassucci) Tasciotti and also preceded in death by her husband Peter Orsini in 1968. Mrs. Orsini and her late husband were the owners of the LaCabanna Restaurant in Glen Lake, NY for many years.

     Surviving are her children Peter (Judy) Orsini of Atlanta, GA; Mary Orsini of Norwich, CT and Jeanne (the late John) Dermody of Elba; 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

     There is no prior visitation and Funeral Services will be at the convenience of the family with a private burial.

JAMES M. LECHLITER

     Age 74, of Oakfield, NY died Thursday March 10, 2011 at Medina Memorial Hospital. He was born January 1, 1937 in Bedford, PA, son of the late John L. & E. Louise (Smith) Lechliter and a brother to the late Joan Diveris. A 1955 graduate of Horseheads High School and a 1959 graduate of the Rochester General Hospital School of X-Ray Technology. During his lifetime, he was employed as an optician, thereafter as an x-ray technician in Ithaca, Medina and Batavia, retiring in 1999.

     Surviving is his wife Donna (Kyler) Lechliter whom he married Jan 1. 1962 of Oakfield; daughters Elizabeth (James) Delaney of Alpine, NY and Anna (Matthew) Waldron of Missouri. His brothers Gerald (Evelyn) Lechliter of Lancaster, PA; Daniel (Lori) Lechliter of Oxnard, CA; Don (Lisa) Lechliter of Elmira; sister Kathy (David) Robinson of Savona, NY and brother-in-law Hercules Diveris of Albany; 5 grandchildren Kyler, Alden, Rowan Delaney & Brody and Jacob Waldron along with many nieces and nephews.

JOHN J. NEEDHAM

Oakfield - Mr. John J. Needham, age 75, of Oakfield, retired master mechanic for the former Country Motors in Oakfield for 47 years, died Monday, March 7, 2011 at Millard Fillmore Gates Circle.

Mr. Needham was born February 29, 1936 in Alabama, a son of the late Alfred and Lucy Watson Needham.

A member of the NRA and AARP, Mr. Needham was an avid hunter. A fan of Indy Car Racing, especially Danica Patrick, he helped build his children go-karts as they grew up and will be remembered by his family as a skilled mechanic.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Weatherbee Needham whom he married November 29, 1958; his children, Holly Needham of Oakfield, Steve Needham and Mitch Needham, both of Batavia and Wade Needham of East Pembroke; three granddaughters, Carrie (Justin) Ohlson of Oakfield, Christina Needham of Batavia and Madison Needham of East Pembroke; his brother, Barry Needham of Tonawanda and several nieces and nephews.

Santina "Sadie" J. Pricola

Santina “Sadie” J. Pricola, 85 of Elba, NY. Died March 5, 2011 at the United Memorial Medical Center. Born December 25, 1925 in Rochester, New York. She is daughter of the late Bartolo (Josephine Palermo) Dambra. Mrs. Pricola owned and operated the Elba House of Beauty for many years. She was a member of St. Padre Pio Parish-Our lady of Fatima Church and its Altar Rosary Society. 

She is preceded in death by her husband Anthony Pricola (1997); brothers Anthony, William, Alphonso and Thomas Dambra along with sister Carmella Dentino. She is survived by her sons James (Kathy); Barton (Mary Beth) Pricola both of Brockport; daughter Maria “Mary Jo” (Stephen) Richenberg of Elba; grandchildren Cory (Amanda), Stephanie Richenberg, Jamie, Molly, Emily, B. J., and Daniel Pricola, one great-grandson Liam Richenberg, two sisters-in-law Phyllis and Rose Dambra, along with many nieces and nephews also survive.

John J. Long, Jr.

Long Jr., John J.. 82 of Akron died Feb. 27, 2011. Father of Karl (Sandra) Long of TN; Karen (Douglas) Sandy of Clarence; Darlene (Jim) Dylag of Corfu; Christine (Jeffrey) Thuman of Barker; daughter-in-law JoAnn Long of Kenmore; sisters Donna (James) Moses of Kenmore; Janice Peltz of Cheektowaga; sister-in-law Josephine Long of OH; 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren survive along with several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his wife Shirley M. (Miller) Long 2010; son Curtis Long; daughter Sharon Long; parents John J. (Florence K. Morris) Long Sr.; brother Duane Long. Mr. Long was a WWII Army Veteran.

He was a real history buff that loved fishing, target shooting, reading and most of all spending time with his family.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday March 19, at Grace Bible Church 6023 Dutton Pl. Newfane, NY 14108.

Brian Michael Hillabush

Batavia - Brian Michael Hillabush, 33, of Batavia, a sports writer for 14 years, most recently for The Batavian, died unexpectedly Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at his residence, in Batavia.

Mr. Hillabush was born March 18, 1977 in Batavia, a son of Robert and Barbara (Ellingham) Hillabush of Batavia. An avid golfer, Colts, Yankees and Payton Manning fan, he graduated in 1996 from Oakfield-Alabama High School. He was a former writer with the Batavia Daily News, played T-Ball, Little League and Varsity Tennis in Oakfield, was a disc jockey at St. John Fisher and Genesee Community College where he was station manager, instrumental in station modernization and received an Associates Degree in Communication. He was a member of the Lions Club of Batavia, participated in GCC fashion shows, served as a mentor to high school students and enjoyed reading to children at the Richmond Memorial Library.

Surviving along with his parents are his brother, Devin Hillabush of Batavia; nephews, Alexander Heatherman and Aden Hillabush; and an aunt, Fawn Ettinger of Batavia

Norman B. Hill

Norman B. Hill, 79, of Basom, died Tuesday (March 1, 2011) at Buffalo General Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Buffalo on September 19, 1931, a son of the late Joseph Hill and Harriet Sundown.

Mr. Hill was a Sachem Chief of the Wolf Clan of the Tonawanda Seneca Nation.  Doni ho geh weh  ”He holds the door open”.  Prior to his retirement he worked for the NYS Department of Transportation in Clarence, NY, American Airlines, Ward Hydraulics and Houdaille Strippit. He is an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Myron Ground Post American Legion, I.O.O.F. of Attica and the  Tonawanda Men’s Singing Society.  He enjoyed Baseball, Harley-Davidson riding, gardening, fishing, reading maps and atlases, solving crossword puzzles and being with his grandsons.

Surviving is his wife of over 47 years, Bernadette “Birdie” Parker Hill.  Children: Norman B. Hill Jr. of Basom, Karl Hill of Basom, Wayne Abrams of Basom and Krystal (Brian) Pollworth of Gasport.  Grandsons: Joseph B. Clark, Connor G. Pollworth and Liam M. Pollworth.  Sister, Aleda “Gigi” Ground of Basom. Half brother, Hilton (Darthea) Hill of Wisconsin.  His aunt, Lorena (Ralph) Patt of Kendall, NY.  Several nieces and nephews also survive. He is the brother of the late: Robert Hill, Ivan Ground and Betty Hill.

Family and friends may call at the family residence, 7415 Reuben Rd., Basom on Thursday.  Services will be Friday 1PM at the residence followed by a 2PM service at the Long. House with full Military Honors.

Mickelina L. Irrera

Mickelina L. Irrera, 96 of Batavia died February 27, 2011 in United Memorial Medical Center, Batavia. Born November 16, 1914 in Batavia, NY. Daughter of the late Philip (Loretta Tripi) Fraterrigo.

Mrs. Irrera was retired from Jackson School where she worked in the Cafeteria; she also previously worked at the Horowitz Shirt Factory. She was a member of Ascension Parish (St. Anthony’s), the Altar & Rosary Society, Our Lady of Loretto, St. Ann’s Society, Notre Dame Prayer Group, a Girl Scout Leader, Batavia High School Band Booster, a member of the Bishop’s Committee, and the Election Board.

She left her family a very special gift- HER FAITH.

She is preceded in death by her husband Anthony A. Irrera Sr. in 1997, brothers Louis and Joseph Fraterrigo and sisters Laura Vilardo, Lucy Holton, and Maria Fraterrigo, also a granddaughter Melissa McNally. She is survived by her children Anthony (Lillian) Irrera Jr., Roger (Carol) Irrera, and Michelle (Michael) McNally all of Batavia. 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

Arietta W. Fuller

Churchville - Mrs. Arietta W. Fuller, 97, of Churchville, died Sunday, (February 27, 2011) at the Odd Fellow & Rebekah Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Lockport.

Mrs. Fuller was born September 24, 1913 in Warsaw, the daughter of the late George and Blanche (Brodie) Wilson.

She was a member of the Churchville United Methodist Church, Woodman Monroe #642 in Rochester and the former Rebekah Lodge in Bergen.

Survivors include two sons, Bruce Fuller and Kenneth (Elaine) Fuller, both of Churchville; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Idelbert Fuller, died in 2001. She is the sister of the late David Wilson and Gerald Wilson.

THELMA A. SCOTT

Corfu- Mrs. Thelma A. Scott, 87, of Corfu, who was employed as a registered nurse at South Buffalo Mercy Hospital in Buffalo, died Sunday, February 27, 2011at Crossroads House.

Mrs. Scott was born December 19, 1923 inLockport, a daughter of the late Joseph "Dutch" and Agnes Hebler Gerner.

A very active member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish- Holy Name of Mary Worship Site, she, along with her late husband Glenn, was involved with many church activities. She had a special love for all children especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Glenn W. Scott, died July 9, 2007.

Surviving are her children, Cindy (Larry) Lee of Williamsburg, Virginia; John Scott of Batavia, Jeanne (James) Schmidt of Clarence and Margaret (Nathan F.) Call of Batavia; three grandchildren, Ted (Rebecca) Lee of York, Pennsylvania, Andrew (Allison) Lee of Yorktown, Virginia and Anne Marie (Joseph) Bezon of Barre; three great-grandchildren, Travis Lee of York, Pennsylvania, Abby and Drew Lee, both of Yorktown, Virginia; two sisters, Aldine Finley of Newfane and Jeanette (William) Travers of Lockport; two sisters-in-law, Josephine Gerner of Lockport and Mary (Bob) Kay of North Carolina; a brother-in-law, Robert Umhoefer of California; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She is the sister of the late Lucille Umhoefer, William Gerner and Geraldine (late George) Holly.

There are no prior calling hours. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish - Holy Name of Mary Worship Site, 8656 Church Street, East Pembroke.  Flowers are gratefully declined. ANNA M. DORF

Elba- Mrs. Anna M. Dorf, 90, of Elba, died Saturday, February 26, 2011at United Memorial Medical Center, in Batavia.

Mrs. Dorf was born May 31, 1920 inBarre, a daughter of the late Charles and Jessie Kingdollar Allen.

A member of Padre Pio Parish - Our Lady of Fatima Worship site, Mrs. Dorf was a former member of the Home Bureau and Elba Historical Society. She enjoyed gardening, her flowers and traveled extensively with her family. Her family wishes to extend a special thank you to all of her caregivers during her illness.

Her husband, Ferdinand "June" Dorf, died September 24, 1995.

Survivors include three daughters, June Ellen Dorf of Elba, Lynda (Kris) Porter of Lewiston and Gail (Joseph) Gabriel of Brockport; two grandsons, Jeffrey Porter and David (Paula) Porter, both of Washington, two great-granddaughters, Courtney Anna and Mary Beth Porter, both of Washington and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She is the sister of the late Bernard T. Sr. (Dorothy) Allen, late Charles K. (Gertrude Schad) Allen, late Arthur (late Ethelyn) Allen, late Roland (Virginia) Allen and the late Elsie Ahl.

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Padre Pio Parish - Our Lady of Fatima Worship Site, 65 South Main Street, Elba.  Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Elba.
