Video: Holland Land Office Museum

By Philip Anselmo

We found this video on YouTube and thought to share it with everyone. Genesee Community College's media crew did a great job on this nine minute documentary about the Holland Land Office Museum. We especially enjoyed this line from the text: "For those unfortunate individuals who are geographically removed and incapable of visiting our museum, we now offer our overview video for visitors online."

Thanks, Pat. I always encourage folks to visit the museum's Web site. You do a great job filling it with fascinating info!

I'm still trying to figure out how to change the clip they show at the beginning. I'm still very new to youtube.

Does anybody have a guess what that building is?

One thing that struck me in watching this is how the Holland Land Co. encouraged settlement and development -- free land and loans for churches and schools, interest-free loans for reputable inn keepers ... testament to the power of free enterprise.

These days, developers of new communities want tax breaks, paid for the schools and fight over how much park land they have to provide.
