David G. Mullen, 89 of Bergen, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family December 2, 2024 at home. He was born in Batavia, January 27, 1935 to the late Glenn S. and Clarabel (Cooper) Mullen. He is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Larissa Emily Mullen.

Mr. Mullen was a proud United States Marine, a Marine until the very end. He served our community in the Batavia Police Department for 37 years and acting Chief for 17 of those years. Dave was a charter member of WNYS Chiefs of Police Association and NYS Chiefs of Police Association. 

Mr. Mullen was a life member of Godfrey’s Pond and member of Batavia Lion’s Club for over 20 years. He was an avid outdoorsman that loved to hunt and fish.  Dave enjoyed going to the races with his sons and grandchildren, he was known as the CEO of Pro Speed. He loved all animals, especially his beloved dog Buddy who stayed by his side until the end. Mr. Mullen will be remembered as a devoted family man that was never afraid to do the right thing and he will be missed.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth A. (Stein) of Bergen, children, Robert (Tammy Stevens) of Batavia, Scott (Elizabeth) of Chili, James (Michelle) of Batavia, Jeffrey (Tracy) Mullen of Stafford, Jennifer (Steven) Hughes of Cazenovia, 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call on Monday, December 9, 2024 from 4 to 7pm at Gilmartin Funeral Home, 329-333 West Main Street, Batavia, NY 14020. A 10:30am Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at Resurrection Parish, 303 East Main Street, Batavia, NY 14020. He will be laid to rest with Military Honor’s, 1:00pm on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at Western New York National Cemetery, 1254 Indian Falls Road, Corfu, NY 14036 (If you plan on attending the burial please arrive at 12:45pm).

Mrs. Barbara W. Stein

Bergen - Barbara W. Stein, age 89, longtime member of St. Brigid Church in Bergen, passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at St. Ann’s Community in Rochester.

Mrs. Stein was born April 23, 1931 in Warsaw, a daughter of the late Charles Francis Wright and Rosamond Eddy Wright.

Barbara is the wife of Joseph F. Stein who passed away on January 30, 2010 and sister of the late Robert Wright.

She is survived by her daughters, Julie (Thomas) Machell of Webster and Marcia (Randall) Kehl of Churchville; five grandchildren Lauren, Lindsey, Nicholas, Matthew and Brendan; many nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law Betty (David) Mullen.

Barbara grew up on a farm in Perry/Warsaw and was a 1949 graduate from Perry Central High School. She worked at Eastman Kodak for 10 years, then raised a family with the love of her life, Joe. They met at a square dance in Caledonia. 

Barb and Joe enjoyed traveling and spending their winters in Haines City, Florida. Barbara was known for her sewing, baking, going to casinos, bingo, coffee with friends, craft fairs, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was also an active member of Triangle Club, Ladies of Charity, Ladies Fire Auxiliary, and active in many volunteer activities.

A special thanks to St Ann’s Community for caring for Barbara as one of their own family.

There are no prior visiting hours, due to the ongoing pandemic.  Barbara’s funeral Mass will be on April 24, 2021 at 11:00 am at St. Brigid Church, 18 Gibson St.  Private Christian Burial will be held at St. Brigid Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Parkinson’s Foundation in her memory, (parkinson.org). When Brothers McClurg, a Grammy-nominated Christian Americana band with roots in Buffalo and a base in Batavia, gather around a mic, they aim to do their part to serve God.

Guitarist Jeremy Thompson looks at it like this: "I feel like it's the kid with the five loaves and the bread just walking up and saying, 'This is what I got, and I want to use it for you, Lord,' you know? (John 6:1-13) If it blesses somebody, that's great. That's just to simplify it because God can do more with our little bit. I just want to get to the end and know that I used my gift in the most fulfilling way."
