An accident involving a tractor-trailer and car is reported in front of the Holland Land Office Museum on West Main Street. It is blocking traffic. Batavia fire, police and Mercy medics are responding.
An accident with minor injuries is reported at 352 Main Road in Pembroke. A tractor-trailer that was "bobtailing" allegedly sideswiped a car and the driver has facial lacerations from broken glass. Pembroke and Indian Falls fire departments are responding along with Mercy medics. Also, Akron is called to provide a pumper, mutual aid.
A two-car accident is reported at Summit and East Main streets, Batavia.
One person is reportedly injured.
Batavia Fire Department and Mercy EMS requested to the scene.
UPDATE 8:14 a.m.: The base of a traffic pole has been struck and damaged.
UPDATE 8:16 a.m.: Second ambulance requested to the scene for evaluation of a juvenile.
Seven Five people were injured, including two pedestrians, in a two-car crash at Oak and Richmond today.
With some Mercy EMS ambulances already tied up on other calls, ambulances from Le Roy and Darien were called to the scene and two Mercy Flight medics also assisted with the treatment of patients.
Five Three patients were taken to UMMC and two were transported to Strong.
All patients were in stable condition at the time of transport, said Officer Kevin DeFelice.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation though DeFelice said it appears one vehicle failed to yield the right-of-way to another vehicle on a left-hand turn.
Two of those injured were pedestrians, though DeFelice said it's unclear at this point whether they were on the crosswalk or sidewalk and whether they were struck by a vehicle or by debris.
DeFelice said a press release with more details will be issued this afternoon. This story will be updated with additional details as they become available.
UPDATE: Officials have issued a press release stating it was actually five people who were injured in the accident. Here's the press release:
Five people were injured in the accident at Oak Street and Richmond Avenue today. Three were taken to UMMC, Two were taken to Strong. Investigation reveals that a northbound black Acura being driven by the defendant was attempting to make a left turn onto Richmond Avenue from Oak Street. The defendant failed to yield the right of way to a southbound red GMC Jimmy. The vehicles collided sending the GMC Jimmy into 2 pedestrians that were standing on the sidewalk on the southwest corner of the intersection. The defendant was issued a UTT and released. Additional charges may be pending. Assisting at the scene were Batavia City Fire, Mercy EMS, Darien Fire and Leroy Ambulance.
The only person identified in the release was one of the drivers, Michael I. Sanders, 45, of 22 Columbia Ave., Apt. #1, Batavia. He was cited for alleged failure to yield right of way.
A motor-vehicle accident is reported at Oak Street and Richmond Avenue in the city. Two pedestrians are involved, one is bleeding. Three medic units, including mutual aid from Le Roy and Alexander, are responding along with city fire and police. There is at least one back injury and a chest injury. "We're going to need traffic control here. It's a mess," says a responder.
UPDATE 11:15 a.m.: A police investigator with a camera is called to the scene and has an ETA of about 10 minutes. The city's third fire platoon is called to headquarters on Evans Street.
UPDATE 11:18 a.m.: Another ambulance is called in; mutual aid from Darien.
UPDATE 11:22 a.m.: Due to mechanical issues, a second Le Roy ambulance will not be able to assist. But another Mercy unit is now available and is responding, emergency mode.
UPDATE 11:28 a.m.: Alexander fire is told to stand by in its hall. The pedestrians were assisted at Lyon Street and Richmond. A Mercy medic calls UMMC to say four patients will be transported there, all with minor injuries: a 59-year-old woman with a leg injury who was side struck by a car while walking in the sidewalk; a 45-year-old male driver with mid-back pain; a person with a nose injury; and a person with a laceration over the left eye. Le Roy's unit, still in route, is told to go to UMMC. Mercy Flight pilots are at the scene assisting, although no air transport is required.
UPDATE 11:46 a.m.: A Mercy rig is taking one victim to Strong Memorial Hospital.
UPDATE 11:49 a.m.: A Darien ambulance is taking a victim to Strong.
UPDATE 11:51 a.m.: City command reports all patients have been transported for medical treatment. Alexander fire can stand down. The remaining responders are working to clean up the scene. Northbound traffic is moving. Southbound traffic will remain closed for awhile.
A motor-vehicle accident with injuries is reported at the intersection of routes 237 and 33, Stafford. Stafford Fire Department is responding along with two Mercy medic units and law enforcement. Mercy Flight is available if needed.
UPDATE 9:32 a.m.: A responder reports one male has head injuries and another has chest injuries.

UPDATE 12:35 p.m. (by Howard): The white Suburban was driven by Barry Taylor who was traveling south on Route 237. He approached the stop sign and stopped. The Toyota, operated by Kevin Huber, of Pembroke, was eastbound on Route 33, at which time Taylor reportedly entered the intersection, according to Deputy John Duyssen.
A car has hit the East Pembroke Fire Department sign and a child in the vehicle suffered a minor injury.
East Pembroke fire and Mercy EMS responded.
A three-vehicle accident is reported on Veterans Memorial Drive, Batavia, across from Peeble's.
One occupant reportedly has minor injuries.

A car has hit a guard rail on Route 77 in the area of the TA Travel Center.

UPDATE 5:27 p.m.: To help clear traffic and get the car moved, a chief has placed the patient is his vehicle and parked in the TA parking lot. Mercy EMS is still in route.

Verizon crews have been working at the scene of last night's accident all day trying to repair damage to Internet and phone equipment at the location on Route 5 in Stafford.
While electrical power has been restored to the area by National Grid, there was extensive damage done to Verizon's equipment and lines.
A spokesman for Verizon said the company has received only 15 complaints of lost service in the area, but he believes there are more customer either without Internet or phone service.
Repairs won't be completed until tomorrow at the earliest.
Two fiber cables and a copper cable needed repair, he said. The power box at the location -- Route 5 and Clipnock Road -- was also damaged and needs to be replaced.
A two-car accident with minor injuries is reported at 2950 Galloway Road, Batavia.

UPDATE 10:29 a.m.: The assignment can be held to Engine 24, non-emergency. The patient is complaining of arm and back pain.
UPDATE 10:53 a.m.: The patient is a 35-year-old male who is being taken to UMMC with complaints of lower back and right hand pain.
National Grid reports some 300 customers from Clinton Street Road on the west to Bater road on the East are without power and there is not yet an estimate of when power will be restored.
A small pickup hit a utility pole just before 6 p.m. at Route 5 and Clipnock Road, shearing it off at its base.
One of the main transmission lines for the area was strung to the top of the pole, a National Grid employee on scene explained later. He said when the truck struck the pole, it probably moved 10 feet, causing the line to snap out of insulators on poles up and down the line.
The plan, he said, was for crews to respond to multiple locations and isolate specific outage areas and restore power incrementally to the affected customers.
While the initial estimate for power restoration was eight to 10 hours, the worker said he'd like to keep it to under four hours.
The driver and the passenger of the truck were transported to UMMC with minor injuries. A deputy said the truck was eastbound when it crossed the center line and struck the pole on the north shoulder. He said the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
Route 5 remains close to through traffic at this hour.
UPDATE 11 a.m.: The driver is identified in a Sheriff's Office accident report as Jason C. Penn, 35, of Mix Place, Batavia. His passenger was Blake C. Lind, age 7. The truck struck a fire hydrant and two utility poles. Debris from the accident struck another vehicle, causing the windshield to shatter. The cause of the accident remains under investigation, which is being conducted by Deputy Joseph Graff. No citations have been issued. A reader reports power restored at her Stafford residence at 5 a.m.

UPDATE 6 p.m.: The driver is said to be in and out of consciousness. There are wires down over the vehicle.
UPDATE 6:05 p.m.: Fire police will be shutting down traffic at Route 5 and Sanders Road.
UPDATE 6:09 p.m.: Command asked for Mercy Flight to be put on ground standby if available. Dispatch says Mercy Flight needs to be rerouted and asks if they are needed at the scene. Command says to send a second ambulance. One victim is a minor with a leg abrasion.
UPDATE 6:13 p.m.: Command calls for Mercy Flight to stand by the scene. The ship out of Batavia is available. A landing zone is being established, in case.
UPDATE 6:16 p.m.: Town of Batavia fire police are heading to the scene to assist with traffic control.
UPDATE 6:23 p.m.: Medics have not yet determined if Mercy Flight will be needed.
UPDATE 6:26 p.m.: Mercy Flight is grounded due to weather. They are going to break down the landing zone.
UPDATE 6:37 p.m.: The driver who was said to be in and out of consciousness, has diabetes and is being transported by ambulance to UMMC. National Grid is on scene, and reps for cable and Verizon wireless are requested.
UPDATE 7:06 p.m.: Red Osier's management is acutely aware of the situation and it's impacting the evening's business at the restaurant. A National Grid rep says they are going to try and isolate the area west of Route 5 to get the power on, and go from there. Verizon says it will get someone out there tomorrow.
UPDATE 8:51 p.m.: Town of Batavia's assignment to Sanders Road back in service.
UDATE 8:55 p.m.: Verizon is in route. 2 1/2 hour ETA.
A motor-vehicle accident with injuries is reported at 7818 E. Main Road in Le Roy. It's between Asbury and Circular Hill roads. One person is complaining of back pain and is inside the vehicle. Le Roy Fire Department and Ambulance Service are responding.
UPDATE 6:54 p.m.: A pickup truck involved has wires and cable wrapped around it. The state DOT rep is called because of the snarl of wires involved -- telephone, cable, phone, electrical, plus a damaged pole and the need to remove a damaged fire hydrant. Monroe County Water Authority is notified of the latter necessity. People in the vicinity are without power.
A car accident with minor injuries is reported at Liberty Street just north of Ellicott Street. City police and fire are responding, along with Mercy medics.
UPDATE 5:31 p.m.: There were four vehicles involved, but a truck with dents on the right side and possibly the rear, left the scene and police are trying to locate it. The truck is described as a black Chevy, with an extended cab, possibly a 1500 made in 1995.
A rollover accident is reported off Clinton Street Road near Mill Street in Stafford. Stafford Fire Department and Mercy medics are called.
UPDATE 2:43 p.m.: All Stafford units are back in service.
Pavilion fire is on scene of an apparent accident with a vehicle off the road on its side about a quarter of a mile west of Texaco Town.
Mercy EMS is responding.

A car reportedly hit a deer and then a tree in the area of 5641 Ford Road, Elba.

A motor-vehicle accident with is reported at Herkimer and Warner roads. Extrication is needed. Darien fire and rescue responding.
UPDATE 5:28 a.m.: Mercy medics are called to the scene.
UPDATE 5:32 a.m.: The victim has been "cut away" from entrapment but will remain in the vehicle until medics arrive.
UPDATE 5:36 a.m.: The chief tells medics, who are about 10 minutes away, that the victim's primary complaint is lower right leg pain. No cuts, abrasions or loss of consciousness. He is to stay in the vehicle "due to the weather."
UPDATE 5:40 a.m.: Command says to dispatch "Start me a tow for a full-size Chevy Suburban, thoroughly totaled and wedged between two trees about 30 feet off the road."
UPDATE 5:54 a.m.: The patient is now on a stretcher, being readied for hospital transport.
UPDATE 6:10 a.m.: Mercy medics are taking the patient to Erie County Medical Center.
