'Fight WITH Ike' Euchre Tourney & Raffle at Le Roy's Excelsior Hook & Ladder Co. on Lent Avenue

Family, friends and the local community are bonding together again for the Second Annual “Fight WITH Ike” Euchre Tournament & Raffle on Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Excelsior Hook & Ladder Co. in Le Roy. The benefit is being held in honor of Batavia local Ike Styer.

Ike is battling stage 4 brain cancer known as glioblastoma and has been unable to work while undergoing several treatments to fight this aggressive disease.

Leah Zicari performs the songs of Joni Mitchell at Richmond Memorial Library, 19 Ross St., Batavia, starting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

The impact of music in our lives plays a huge role in the book "Southernmost," the 2019 Richmond Reads Community One Book. One character in particular finds solace in the music of Joni Mitchell, which is reflected throughout the novel.

Artist Reception at GO ART! for exhibits 'Maps & Legends' and 'Purpose'

Two new art exhibits at GO ART! on Friday will be on display starting in mid-September at Seymour Place, 201 E. Main St., Batavia:
  • "Maps & Legends" by Kevin Hammon -- Sept. 12 to Nov. 9. 
  • Members' Challenge Exhibit -- theme "Purpose" -- Sept. 12 to Dec. 7.
There will be an Artist Reception for both exhibitors from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19.
 
Gallery hours are: Thursdays and Fridays 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturdays 11 a.m.

Free 'Rising Stars Concert' at Richmond library features local musicians Ross Chua and Madison Hoerbelt

A "Rising Stars Concert" will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, in the Reading Room at Richmond Memorial Library. It is free and will feature local musicians Ross Chua and Madison Hoerbelt.

'Wings & Wheels' free Fun Fly and Car Show on Randall Road in Le Roy

The public is invited to the Batavia Radio Control Flying Club's "Wings & Wheels" Fun Fly and Car Show on the weekend of Aug. 17-18 in Le Roy.

It takes place from 10 a.m. to dusk each day at 6684 Randall Road. Children are encouraged to attend with their families.

Show off your special ride! Classic muscle and antique cars and motorcycles welcome. Flyers: Turbines welcome; pilot AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics) required.

Entry is FREE. No landing fees either.

The Batavia Society of Artist is having their Summer Art Show reception Thursday, Aug. 15, at GO ART! / Seymour Place, 201 E. Main St., Batavia.
 
The FREE opening reception is from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
 
The Summer Art Show is on exhibit now through Oct. 5 in the Rotary Gallery on the second floor.

Deadline is Thursday, Aug. 8, for Saturday's guided kayaking tour of DeWitt Pond

Kayaking at the pond at DeWitt Recreation Area, which was cancelled last month due to the heat wave, will be offered this Saturday.

Preregistration is required on or before Thursday Aug. 8th, call 585-344- 1122.

A maximum of 20 participants will be allowed.

Seize the day with a guided kayak tour of DeWitt Pond! Explore the pond by water and discover a new world.

Shake on the Lake performs 'As You Like It' free in Centennial Park

The sounds of laughter, music, and Shakespeare echo inside an old general store building on Main Street in Perry. When the door is opened, the company members of Shake on the Lake – the oldest-running professional Shakespeare Company in Wyoming County – are revealed.

This is their eighth summer season. Shake on the Lake began its 2019 tour in July, traveling to eight counties in Western New York and the Finger Lakes.

The business community is invited to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Harvester Center in Batavia, the world's first business incubator.

In partnership with Start-Up Genesee, which is the networking event coordinator, and the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce, the anniversary celebration will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15. The address is 22 Masse Place.

These organizations are thrilled to have such a unique and forward-thinking facility in our county.

Awesome donations in history, fiction, young authors, and much more! The sale is from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1.

NY Sire Stakes Night of Champions at Batavia Downs -- $1.8 million purse -- the richest racing card ever in WNY

The $1.8 million New York Sire Stakes Night of Champions races in 2019 will highlight the richest card of racing ever held in Western New York. Also featured on the card will be Batavia Downs signature stake, the $50,000 Robert J. Kane Memorial Invitational pace and a slate of races featuring the best resident overnight horses on the grounds. Post time for this grand night of racing will be 6 p.m.

It's a community-based physical theater play written by Eric Zwieg, based on Arthur Schopenhauer's "The World as Will and Representation," with music by Gustav Mahler, Franz Schubert, Johannes Brahms, Robert Schumann and Arnold Schoenberg.

Performance on Friday, Aug. 30, will begin at 5 p.m.
