Adopt-A-Pet: Anna Marie and Cookie

By Billie Owens

My "family" left me behind when they moved away. Some "pack" that turned out to be! And just look at what they've lost, a true-blue friend, a loyal and loving pet.

My name is Anna Marie (classy, don'tcha think?) and I'm an adult, spayed German shepard/Labrador retriever mix.

The irony about my being left behind is that I'm such a great family dog. Kids, cats, dogs, the mail lady, I like 'em all!

Not to toot my own horn, but I'm also completely housebroken and well-mannered on a leash. Bottom line: you couldn’t ask for a better companion. But don't take my word for it, come and see for yourself.

Just look at me would ya. I'm drop-dead funny. Can't help but be with splotches like these. I'm the cutest little Oreo Cookie you'll ever meet.

In fact, the volunteers here refer to me as a living example of modern art. They say my black spots were "carefully placed" on my person but I think they are pulling my leg.

I'd sure like to amuse you inside a home that I would let you share, if you let me. P.S., I'm spayed and they call me a black-and-white DSH, but I don't know what that stands for.

I would go get both of these beautiful animals tomorrow if I wasn't afraid that my kids would kill me. They say I have enough already. Funny, when they were younger and I tried to tell them that when they kept bringing rodents, reptiles and birds home from the pet shop, no one listened. Anna is a real beauty and black dogs are the least likely to be adopted. I hope someone adopts her soon. She deserves better than what she's gotten so far.

Beth, I hope somebody adopts them fast -- every week Billie posts adopt-a-pet and every week I have to take the car keys away from her to keep her from going down to the shelter and bringing two more animals home. Both of these guys are particularly tempting.

LOL Howard. I'm with Billie. If anyone on the Batavian adopts any of the animals posted here, I hope they will send in an update. I'd love to see some happy endings.

I saw Anna Marie on my daily visit to the shelter site a few days ago, and wanted her then. Unfortunately, I have 3 dogs and 7 cats already, and my husband would have to get another job to support any more, lol! (Not to mention the fact that I'd be the one sleeping in the dog house). I really hope she finds the perfect forever home. I'm rooting for her, and for all the other babies at the shelter.

Thanks to "The Batavian" for helping to get the word out on the animals at the shelter. The folks there really do care about them and want to match them up with the perfect family. I would love "animal updates" too. A brighter side to all the "hoopla".

Happy Endings update - Dutchess and Buddy both went home the week they were featured. One of the Bee Boppers has gone over to Petco (the bob tail) - our cats fly out of Petco so he should be going home soon. We have had some really good adoptions this past week - several adult cats who have been there awhile. A beautiful golden retriever with a medical issue went to a wonderful family on Sunday. On our website, after an animal is adopted their photo is moved to the bottom under "Recently Adopted." They get to shine under the banner for a week so everyone can keep in touch with who has gone home. It is nice to see them go home - so don't ever feel like you must adopt them all. Just be sure to tell your friends where to find the best animals in Genesee County! Thanks to everyone for your help and support.

Oh my, Cookie is adorable!! If I didn't already have four cats I would take her in a heart beat. Good luck to Anna Marie and Cookie. I hope you find very loving homes.
