Batavia – Richard F. Seymour was reunited with the Lord, his wife and their son on Friday, November 18, 2022, after his passing at the NYS Veterans’ Home at Batavia, NY. He was 90 years old. A man of faith, he was a member of the Northgate Free Methodist Church.

Mr. Seymour was born August 2, 1932, in Lyons, NY, the son of Franklin and Laura Woods Seymour. He was predeceased in death in 2008 by his wife Kathryn Keif Seymour and son, Paul H. Seymour in 1984.

Perhaps best remembered for his numerous contributions to the education of the children of Batavia, Mr. Seymour served as a General Science teacher, Science Department Chairman, Assistant Principal and Principal at Batavia Junior High School. He retired from the Batavia City School District as Assistant to the Superintendent. Known fondly to his colleagues as “Dick” you could be sure to find him after school either enjoying his weekly bowling on the Batavia Teachers’ Bowling League or announcing and taking stats for all the home Batavia Blue Devil Varsity Basketball games.

Mr. Seymour’s contributions to our country and community are numerous. From 1953-1961, he was a member of the US Army, bravely serving in the Korean Conflict. He has been a lifetime member of the Sertoma Club; a long-standing Board member of Homecare and Hospice, GCASA, Genesee Memorial/ UMMC Hospital Board, Grand View Cemetery Future Development Committee, Victim’s Impact Panel, Salvation Army, the NYS Retired Teachers’ Association; Genesee Arts Council GO ART! having The Seymour Place named in the family’s honor.

Baseball, basketball, and soccer were the type of sports Mr. Seymour followed. He was an active supporter and season ticket holder to the Batavia Muckdogs minor league team and served on the booster club and Board of Directors for both the Clippers and Muckdogs. He and Mrs. Seymour hosted young baseball players during the summer seasons for many years. They also hosted educators from around the world as active members of the American Host Program.

Richard was the co-developer and co-chairperson of the First United Methodist Church food ministry where for many years, he shared his love of cooking by organizing and preparing meals to host school sports teams’ end-of-season banquets, weddings, and community social gatherings.

Never at a loss for words, Mr. Seymour enjoyed sharing memories of his travel experiences, especially his trip to Alaska. His interests included all things science related, history, sports, and bowling. He was a collector of coins, stamps, and National Geographic Magazines. Additionally, at the NYS Veterans’ Home, Richard was Resident Council Secretary and enjoyed doing the morning announcements. He was a man of integrity and a friend to all.

Mr. Seymour was husband to the late Kathryn F. Seymour and father to the late Paul H. Seymour. Survivors include his twin sister Jane Seymour Pask of Fairport, NY, nephew John and his nieces Mary and Carrie; Brother-in-laws/sister-in-laws John and Joyce Marshek, Batavia, NY, Barbara Read, Elba, NY, Charles Keif, Batavia, NY and James Keif, Ocala, FL and their families. Also surviving are his close friends Dave and Holly Parzych, William Thayer, Jr., and Fran and Bobbi Norton.

Friends may call on Tuesday, November 29 th from 11:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Northgate Free Methodist Church, 8160 Bank Street Road, Batavia. Services will follow at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Grand View Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Homecare & Hospice, 550 E. Elsie June Rowcliffe, 93, of Elba, passed away on November 18, 2022 at Premier Genesee Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Batavia.

Elsie was born June 28, 1929 in Bergen, a daughter of the late Maynard and Blanche (Ackerson) Brown.

Elsie was a member of the Elba Historical Society, Card Club and the Collector's Club.  She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, word search books, going to flea markets and watching the birds out of her window.

Surviving are her children, Dennis Rowcliffe, Diane Moore, Scott Rowcliffe, Jeffrey (Kim) Rowcliffe and Donna (Greg) Hillabush; ten grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Elise is the wife of the late Howard Rowcliffe, grandmother of the late Jason Rowcliffe and sister of the late Walter Brown, Edward Brown, Marion Neeley, Delia Richenberg, Pearl Priestly, Mable Pocock and Ruth Galliford.

There are no prior calling hours and Elsie's funeral will be held privately.

June Kanaley, 92, of LeRoy, passed away on Friday, November 18, 2022. She was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother who had a unique ability to make others laugh. June was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Parish and the American Legion. She loved spending time with her family, dancing, reading, angels and the Buffalo Bills. 

   

  Born in Jamestown, NY, she was the daughter of Merrill and Margaret Rogers. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her loving husband, Ronald Kanaley, her brothers, Edward and Roger Rogers, sister-in-law, Mary Alice Rogers, brother-in-law, John Kanaley, and sister-in-law, Mary Kanaley.

     June will be sadly missed by her daughters, Christine (David) Baker, Pamela (Thomas) Rider and Patricia (Guy) Clark; grandchildren, Kimberly (Michael) Amico, Erin Baker, Katherine (Shannon) Whaley, Caylin (Stephen) DePuy, Daniel (Erin) Rider, Adam Clark, Connor (fiancée Becca) Clark; great-grandchildren, Mikayla and Sean Amico, Isaac and Sarah DePuy, and Jade and Brayden Whaley; sister-in-law, Angeline Rogers, nephews, Steve (Chris) Rogers, Greg (Jody) Rogers and niece, Ann Marie (Rick) Suttell.

Florence A. Mooney, 88, of Oakfield, passed away on November 17, 2022 at Rochester General Hospital.

Florence was born May 13, 1934 in Oakfield, a daughter of the late Roy and Myrtia (Kingdom) Brumsted.

Florence was an auto racing fan, having supported her daughter, Rhonda, as she raced.  She was also a fan of the New York Yankees, Buffalo Bills and the Syracuse Orange.  Florence enjoyed baking apple pies and was a nurse's aide at the former Genesee Memorial Hospital.

Surviving are her children, Robin Mooney, Roxanne Mooney, Rhonda (David) Waters and Ryan (Noreen) Mooney; her sister, Iola Anderson; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Florence is the wife of the late Frederick Mooney and sister of the late Jeanette Taber, Vivian Brumsted, Florine Taggert and Francis Gray.

There are no prior calling hours and services for Florence will be held privately.

Raymond J. Jamalkowski, 90 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Friday (November 11, 2022) at St. Johns Home in Rochester, NY.

He was born March 5, 1932 in Batavia, a son of the late Stanley and Mary Brzeczkowski Jamialkowski.

Ray was a 1949 graduate of Batavia High School where he played football, basketball and baseball. Shortly after high school, he played professional baseball with the Batavia Clippers. Ray then served in the U.S. Army, where he also played baseball. He graduated from McNeese State College in Lake Charles, Louisiana with a Master’s Degree in Education. He played football while he was at McNeese. Also while in Louisiana, Ray played fast-pitch softball and his team reached the Fast-Pitch World Series.

He spent his career as a physical education teacher and coach. Most notably, Ray coached nine seasons of football at Batavia High School. He also coached football and basketball at LeRoy High School and football at Livonia. During his career, he also coached golf, tennis and track and field. Before his retirement from coaching, Ray was an assistant football coach for Brockport State College.

In 2005, Ray was inducted into the Batavia Blue Devils Athletic Hall of Fame and in 2018, into the Section V Football Hall of Fame. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf as well as watching the Buffalo Bills and Duke and Syracuse basketball teams.

He was the husband of the late Dorothy Ann “D.A.” Jamalkowski and brother of the late Carl, Leo, Stanley, Victor, Steven, Henry, Irene, Genevieve and Florence Jamalkowski.

Survivors include his son, Thomas Jamalkowski of Batavia; brother in-law, William "Butch" (Judith) Walters of Mecedon; and several nieces and nephews.

  Peter J. “Bear” Gravante Jr., 33, of Byron passed away on Wednesday November 16, 2022. He was born on February 1, 1989 in Rochester to Peter J. (Christine) Gravante Sr. of Rochester and Barbara Gravante of Byron. He is predeceased by his grandparents; John Gravante, Mary (Albert) Smith and Richard (Arlene) Lyman.

Peter graduated from Byron-Bergen High School. He worked in construction and was known as a very hard worker. Peter enjoyed working and tinkering with cars and trucks. He had a big heart and was always willing to help someone in need.

In addition to his parents, Peter is survived by his siblings; John Gravante of IN., Nikki Gravante of GA., Jason Kone of Byron, James Kone of Byron, Matthew Thornley of LeRoy and Christopher (Trish) Thornley of TX., along with many Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

LeRoy ~ Carmella A. Say, age 54, of South Street Road, passed away Tuesday evening (Nov. 15, 2022) at Rochester General Hospital.

     She was born May 3, 1968 in Batavia, a daughter of Anita Ange Iannello and the late Leonard J. Iannello.

    

Carmella was a loving wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, niece and dear friend to many.  She enjoyed scary movies and loved to decorate for all the holidays.

     She will be sadly missed by her husband, Peter; children, Olivia Taney and Dustin (Tessa) Say; grandson, Dawson Say; mother, Anita Iannello; brothers, Augie Iannello and Leonard (Tammy) Iannello; mother-in-law and father-in-law; five brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law, along with several loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

     In addition to her father, Leonard, she was predeceased by her sister, Anna Lynn Iannello.

     Family and friends are invited to attend her Rite of Christian Burial to be held on Saturday, Nov. 26 at 10:30 A.M. at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Peter’s Church, 44 Lake St., LeRoy.  Interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery, LeRoy.

LeRoy ~ Regina (Van Alst) Steen, age 94, passed peacefully on November 16, 2022.

     She was born September 18, 1928 to the late Bertha (Criger) (Van Alst) Morrison and Harry Van Alst. She was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Pete Steen.

    

Regina was a 1946 graduate of LeRoy High School. She taught kids to swim at Red Bridge and Horseshoe Lake, worked at Lapp Insulator in the payroll department for ten years and the local school cafeteria for fourteen years.

     She loved her family, swimming, the Adirondack camp and car races.

     Regina is survived by daughters Barbara Steen, Nancy (Mike) Glover, Dorothy (Ed) Schramm; special granddaughter Ali (John) Dawson; nieces and nephews.

     In addition to her husband, Pete, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Jane (Fred) Grasby, Rita (George) Carmichael, Dorothy (Abe) Machols and step-father, Ellsworth Mike Morrison.

     At Regina’s request, there will be no visitation or services.

Roger P. Sabatino, 81, of Ocala, Florida passed away peacefully at his home in the early morning hours of November 8, 2022. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Joanne M. Sabatino, together they had 7 children, 14 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

Roger leaves behind his second wife, Iris Kerr Sabatino, his children, Anna Marie (Wes) Peterson, Terri Sabatino, Stephen (Cheryl) Sabatino, Cathy (Chris) Morgan, Barbara (Kevin) Turner, Carolyn (Joseph) Suranni, and Tina Breton, along with his brothers, Jack (Judy) Sabatino of North Carolina, James Sabatino, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

He was born May 16, 1941, in Albion, NY to the late Jacob and Christine Sabatino. He was a graduate of Notre Dame High school, in Batavia and then went on to raise his family together with Joanne, in East Bethany, NY, where he was an active member of Immaculate Conception Parish, as well as a scout master for more than twelve years. He and Joanne moved to Belleview, Florida in 1994. He worked as head custodian of St. Timothy’s Catholic Church in The Villages, Florida until his retirement in 2006.

He enjoyed gardening, reading and spending time with his family. Roger was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and was a devout Catholic. He was a member of the Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ocala, Florida.

Roger will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but we are all comforted in the knowledge that he is now reunited with his wife, whom he dearly loved. He will be laid to rest at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. At his request, there will be no visitation or memorial services held. There will be a Funeral Mass at St. Joseph’s church, Resurrection Parish, in Batavia on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at 10:00am.

Batavia - George E. Bell, 71 of Batavia, passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at Buffalo General Hospital.

George was born Saturday, March 31st, 1951 in Batavia, a son of the late Earl Bell and Ruth Moore Bell.

George was self-employed as a contractor for nearly 40 years. He has subcontracted to Will’s Carpet One, Imperial Kitchens, Frontier Kitchens, Kitchen World, and Wortzman’s Furniture where he spent the majority of his career. Most recently, George was employed as the Maintenance Director at Leroy Manor, in Leroy, NY. A hard-working, quiet man, with a wry sense of humor he loved being home with his family after a hard day at work. George was the consummate family man. He loved working on and at his home, watching home improvement shows, and Fox News. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.

Surviving are his wife, Sally M. (Little) Bell whom he married on August 21, 1970; his children, Kevin C. Bell, of Upper Jay, NY and Heather R. Bell of Oakfield; his granddaughter, Clara Jean Murphy; his brother, Robert (Deborah) Bell of Elba.  

He is predeceased by his son Timothy E. Bell who passed away on January 19, 1992. His parents, Earl and Ruth (Moore) Bell also predeceased George.

There are no prior visiting hours.  George's Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 26th, 2022 at Calvary Baptist Church, 3515 Galloway Road, Batavia. Corfu - Julie A. Herman, 68, of Corfu, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2022, at Strong Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

Julie as born on June 26, 1954, in Batavia, a daughter of Charles A. and Eleanor Peterson Herman. She was the aunt of the late Nicole Elizabeth Herman and step daughter of the late Patricia J. Herman.

Julie was a 1972 graduate of Pembroke Central High School, where she excelled in athletics. She was a 1976 graduate of SUNY Cortland and a member of Arethusa Sorority. In the late 1980’s,  Julie went back to school at Simmons Institute of Funeral Service and in October of 1989, she received her license to be a funeral director. She immediately went to work with her Dad in the family business, C. B. Beach & Son Mortuary, Inc. She maintained her license up until June of 2022. Julie enjoyed all sports and would go and watch the local games at Pembroke High, especially the girls sporting events. Julie was a life long Yankees fan. She was a longtime member of the Corfu United Presbyterian Church.

Julie is survived by her life-partner, Patricia L. Marvin; her brothers, Charles B. (Lori) Herman and Richard B. (Nicole Hornstein) Herman; her sister, Elizabeth A. “Betsy” (Sander) Abramson; nephews, Jason T. Herman and John D. Baudhuin; niece, Jessie L. (Michael) Molle`; great nephews, William G. Molle`, Jack Charles Molle` and Alexander J. Baudhuin; great niece, Kate Elizabeth Molle`; several cousins and a host of dear friends.

Family and friends may call Friday, November 18th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the C. B. Beach & Son Mortuary, Inc., 4 East Main Street, Corfu. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 19th, at Noon at the Corfu United Presbyterian Church, 63 Allegheny Street, Corfu, NY with a luncheon to follow. Burial will be private in Evergreen Hill Cemetery.

Elba - Pamela S. Weller, 67 of Elba passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2022.

She was born Tuesday, September 13th, 1955 in Batavia, NY a daughter of the late Lorne Horton and Nancy Horton. 

Pamela married the love of her life, Darwin Weller, on May 31, 1986. She worked as a CNA for Genessee County Nursing for 35+ years until her retirement in 2015. Pam was easy going and enjoyed, crafting shows, electronic games, card games, soap operas, and lifetime movies. She enjoyed vacationing in Florida, spending time with her family, and loved the Christmas season. 

Pamela is survived by her husband, Darwin Weller; brother, Peter (Michele) Horton; nephew, Kevin Horton; niece, Katie (Pat) Horton; uncles, Kennith (Louise) Post, Sherm Horton and several cousins.

In death Pamela is reunited with her Parents, Lorne and Nancy Horton and a brother, Michael Horton.

Tammy Jean Culver, 58, of Batavia passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2022 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Batavia NY on August 18, 1964 to the late Herbert Scroger and the late Gloria (Kinne) Cardinali. She graduated Oakfield Alabama Central School in 1983 and graduated from Continental Beauty School as a Cosmetologist. After marrying David Culver on October 10, 1987, she opened up of own shop, Tammy's Beauty Shop in South Alabama for 29 years and retired in 2016 after moving to Batavia.

Tammy is survived by her loving husband David Culver, 2 daughters Ashley (Josh) Dyrbala of Oakfield and Erica (Jessie Buchanan) Culver of Brockport. She will be deeply missed by her 2 granddaughters who affectionately called her Mimi, Chloe Lynn and Hailey Grace Dyrbala. She is also survived by a sister Tina (Bob) Kehlenbeck of Oakfield and a brother Herbie (Pudgie) Scroger of East Bethany and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will be missed by her loving dog Maci Mae.

Besides being predeceased by her parents she has lost her sisters Peggy McBride, Toni Scott, Kim Knauss, a niece Tracy Sumeriski, and nephew Chris Blake, Jr.
Tammy had an amazing sense of humor and made everyone around her feel welcome. She loved the sun and especially enjoyed her year-round tan. She really loved her yearly vacations with her family especially the beaches around the US. She loved her flowers and enjoyed decorating her home for the seasons. She loved being around family and friends and her summer end parties and card games. Her most cherished memories are the time she spent with Chloe and Hailey.
