Batavia - Mrs. Marie E. Raines, 82, a retired physical education teacher at both John Kennedy Elementary School and the Batavia Middle School, died Friday, June 25, 2010at the United Memorial Medical Center.

Mrs. Raines was born December 5, 1927 in Boston, New York, the daughter of the late Carl and Hatti Petrie Emerling.

She attended SUNY Brockport and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education in 1949. While at Brockport she met her husband, George and they married on August 27, 1949.

A longtime member of Resurrection Parish - St. Joseph's Church, Mrs. Raines was a member of the Sodality and a sacristan of the church. She and her husband were former members of Stafford Country Club for many years.

Along with her husband, she is survived by one son, Timothy Raines of Marietta, Georgia; one daughter, Maureen (Sal) Palatiere of Spring, Texas; one sister, Marcia Santoro of Bayside, New York and two grandchildren, Benjamin and Allsion Palatiere. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive. 

She was the sister of the late Jerome, Harold, Robert and Maurice Emerling.

Age 87, talented local artist of Batavia, died Thursday afternoon June 24, 2010 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. She was born March 19, 1923 in Buffalo to the the Joseph & Clara (Schroeder) Zeis. Preceded in death by her husband Edward J. Hayes in 1990, sons Gary & Robert Hayes, brothers Jack & Bob Zeis, sisters Clarissa Siebert, Delores Lang and Toni McKay. A graduate of Akron High School, member of Resurrection Parish, she worked for Curtis-Wright, Mason Seal Factory, Massey-Harris and most recently as the Curator of the Holland Land Office. Many in the area would know and some own her original oil and water paintings; she was a member of the Batavia Society of Artists, GO ART and the Collectors Club. Roz had a real zest for life that had her taking dancing and piano lessons well into her 80's, frequently seen at local flea markets and in her garden. An avid reader she collected books and was the author & publisher of two children's books.

Surviving are her loving children Thomas (Brigid) Hayes; Nancy (James) Cifelli and Patricia (William) Cultrara all of Batavia; brother-in-law Robert Lang of East Pembroke. 10 grandchildren Lori (Kevin) Horkey, Alicia (Steve) Fitzsimmons, Chris (Paul) VanSickle, Brandi, Caitlin, Thomas, Shelby & Jamie Hayes, Kirsten & Julie Cultrara; 6 great-grandchildren, special niece Dorothy (Chuck) Kellog along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be from 4-8 PM Sunday June 27, 2010 at the Michael S. Tomaszewski Funeral & Cremation Chapel, LLC 4120 West Main Street Road Batavia, New York 14020 where prayers 9:00 AM Monday June 28 will be followed by a 9:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Resurrection Parish (St. Mary's Site). Kelly George Longchamps, 50 of Batavia died June 24, 2010 at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.

Born July 11, 1959 in Buffalo, New York, son of Harriet (Carson/MacRae) and Theodore Longchamps. Kelly was an incredible human being whose great heart finally outgrew its mortal frame.

He called Batavia his home for most of his life but for a brief time he resided in Florida. Kelly was employed by the Veteran’s Hospital in Batavia for many years and enjoyed work as much as he did his leisure time. He was an avid gardener and handyman and spent much of his time tending his garden and renovating his home. Kelly enjoyed hunting for & unearthing old bottles and had an impressive collection. He liked to place an occasional wager and spent some of his happiest hours gaming with his nephews & friends.

He leaves behind many an aching heart and will be sorely missed but never forgotten. Survived by his parents as well as three brothers; James D. (Joan) MacRae III of Batavia; Eric (Raylene) MacRae of Salisbury Mills, NY; Patrick (Peggy Berndt) MacRae of Verona, NY; three sisters Ellen (Steven) Hagen of Batavia; Kristine Flicker of Newport Beach, CA and Kathleen Longchamps of Batavia along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. 

Calling hours will be held Wednesday June 30 from 2 to 4 PM at Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc. Immediately after a gathering in his honor will take place at his sister & brother-in-law’s home in Batavia. Any & all are welcome to come share a moment, a story or a parting glass.

Batavia/Oakfield - Mrs. Ann D. DiSalvo, 90, of Batavia, a food services worker at Oakfield - Alabama School, until her retirement, died Wednesday, June 23, 2010at Genesee County Nursing Home, in Batavia.

Mrs. DiSalvo was born March 26, 1920 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Joseph and Concetta (Pastore) Morette.

She was a member of St. Padre Pio Parish, St. Cecelia's Worship Site, since 1941, served on the Altar and Rosary Society and enjoyed crochet.

Her husband, Joseph "Sheik" DiSalvo, died January 14, 2001.

Survivors include 2 sons, David (Nancy) DiSalvo of Batavia and Raymond DiSalvo of MO; a daughter, Joanne DiSalvo of Batavia; a sister, Kitty Tessitore of Batavia; 2 sisters-in-law, Cecilia Morette of Clarence and Kim Morette of Utica; 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was the grandmother of the late Richard DiSalvo and sister of the late Michael Morette, Vincent Morette, Rosemarie Kenyon and Josephine Patterson.

Age 60, of Syracuse, NY, died at home early Friday morning June 18, 2010. Born March 4, 1950 in Barcelona, San Juan to the late Luis M. & Juanita (Torres) Caballero and was also preceded in death by his former wife Alexis Y. Caballero. He was employed by COYNE Textiles & Services of Syracuse. Santiago was a loyal and committed friend, fun loving, hard working and had a unique sense of style. He enjoyed swimming, playing softball and family BBQ's, enjoyed music and loved to dance.

Surviving are his loving children Jerry (Jenifer) Wheaton of Rochester; Justin (Janet) Caballero of Rochester; Yolanda (Christopher) Barbella of East Stroudsburg, PA and Elena Caballero-Henderson of Syracuse, sisters Anna (John) Ramos of Long Island and Nydia Caballero of New York City along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Byron - Mrs. Mary Jane Shultz, 71, of Byron, died Wednesday, (June 23, 2010)at her home.

Mrs. Shultz was born December 18, 1938 in Batavia, a daughter of the late John and Ola (Sprague) Hale.

Mrs. Shultz was a garage sale nut and also collected dolls.

Survivors include her husband, Alan Shultz of Byron; four sons, John (Debra) Shultz of LeRoy, Jeffrey (Diane) Shultz of Batavia, Mike Shultz of Greece, N.Y. and Terry Shultz of Wilmington, N.C.; a daughter, Jodi (Doug) Russo of Batavia; ten grandchildren, Joey, Jacob, Jeremy, Autumn and Brittany Shultz; Bailey and Kiera Russo; Katie, Stephanie and Josh Shultz; two sisters, Gloria Cotter of Batavia and Loretta Sackel of Auburn and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by a son, WilliamShultz; a brother, Donald Hale and two sisters, Bertha Downey and Jeanette Schultz.

Batavia - Mrs. Grace L. Clark, 93, of Batavia and formerly of Bergen, died Monday, (June 21, 2010)at the Genesee County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Clark was born December 3, 1916 in Byron, the daughter of the late H. Edward and Emma (Sager) Schilling.

Mrs. Clark was a co-owner of Clark Farms in Bergen. She was an avid horse lover and rider and also was a Bergen resident since 1936.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol A. Lendall of Coffeyville, Kansas; a grandson; six granddaughters and several great-grandchildren. 

She is the wife of the late Philip S. Clark, mother of the late Barbara Newcomb and the sister of the late Wilbur Schilling.

Stafford - Mr. Charles Douglas Laird, 83, of Stafford, foreman for Graham Manufacturing in Batavia, died Thursday, June 17, 2010at his home in Stafford.

Mr. Laird was born May 1, 1927 in Johnsonburg, the son of the late Lloyd and Bessie Nutting Laird.

A graduate of Attica High School, he served with the United States Army during World War II. He was a  member of Immaculate Conception Church, Mr. Laird was a member of the VFW, Graham Retiree's and a former member of the Stafford Fire Department. Mr. Laird also served as foreman at the former Jell-O Factory and at Doehler-Jarvis.

He enjoyed old cars and conversations, all types of animals and loved his grandchildren dearly.

His wife of 50 years, Marguerite Johnson Laird, died on May 15, 2000.

Survivors include three sons, Thomas (Kathy) Laird of Stafford, Kenneth (Debra) Laird of East Bethany and Douglas Laird of Philadelphia, Pa.; three daughters, Catherine (William) Plaisted and Nancy (Dale) Thompson, both of Stafford and Mary Beth (Ricky) LaVare of LeRoy; a daughter-in-law, Jeri Laird of LeRoy; ten grandchildren, Jodi, Michael, Scott, Kimberly, Brian, Justin and Katelyn Laird, Jeffrey Plaisted and Joseph and Kelsey LaVare;  five great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Lucey of Rochester; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Crane and Sarah "Sue" Johnson, both of Batavia and several nieces and nephews.

He is the brother of the late Ellsworth Laird and was predeceased by his step-mother, Hazel Bauer Laird and four step-sisters.

Batavia - Mrs. Lois H. Folger, 94, of Batavia, a secretary for the former Kozak Auto Dry Wash in Batavia, died Friday, (June 18, 2010)at the Genesee County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Folger was born March 11, 1916 in Phelps, a daughter of the late Lewis and Verna (Dunn) Hollenbeck.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Greene of Batavia; two granddaughters, Betsy (Thomas) Pettinella and Mary Jo (Roger) Hume, both of Batavia; six great-grandchildren, Matthew, Philip, Adam, Cady, Jenna and Abbey and nieces and nephews.  

She is the wife of the late Robert Folger, who died in 1991.

Adele M. Sikora, 83 of LeRoy died June 15, 2010 at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, NY.

Born July 5, 1926 in Wilkes Barre PA. Daughter of the late Michael (Mary Daugela) Baikauskas. Mrs. Sikora was a retired from the Erie County Library in Buffalo where she was a library clerk.

She was formerly a member of St. Stanislaus Church in Bradford, New York. 

Preceded in death by  her husband Edward F. Sikora in 1999 and a sister Mary Hamersloy. She is survived by a daughter Judy (Perry Woodfin) Sikora of Batavia and a son Daniel (Ann) Sikora of Hamburg, NY. Two sisters Rita (Al) Freda and Albena Nedswick both of New Jersey survive along with 3 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. 

Friends may call on Thursday June 17, 2010 from 4 to 8 PM at the Funeral Home. Prayers will be recited on Friday June 11, 2010 at 11:30 AM at the Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 Noon in Resurrection Parish (St. Joseph’s) 303 East Main Street, Batavia. Burial will be at Bradford Cemetery in Bradford, New York.

Francis J. Penkszyk Jr., 56, of Alexander, died Sunday (June 13, 2010) at United Memorial Medical Center shortly after being admitted.

He was born in Batavia a son of Geraldine Tresco Penkszyk of Garner, NC and the late Francis J. Penkszyk Sr. who died in 2003.

He enjoyed reading, traveling with his dad  and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Mr. Penkszyk was in International Sales Manager for R.E. Chapin Mfgr. in Batavia.

Surviving besides his mother are two sons and a daughter in law:  Francis J. and Deborah Penkszyk III of Batavia and Aaron A. Penkszyk of Hopkinsville, KY.  A daughter, Jacinta M. Penkszyk of Silver Springs, FL.  Two sisters and a brother in law:  Deborah Geib of Clayton, NC and Teresa and Donald Doran of Garner, NC.  Three grandchildren:  Francis J. Penkszyk IV, Alannah Jaide and Arianna Jeannine Penkszyk.  Several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive.

Donald Anson Litzenberger Stafford - Mr. Donald Anson Litzenberger, 77, of Stafford, died Monday, (June 14, 2010)at United Memorial Medical Center.

Mr. Litzenberger was born October 9, 1932 in Greece, a son of the late Louis and June (Heidrick) Litzenberger.

Mr. Litzenberger was an engineer at Olin Chemical Corporation in Rochester for 35 years. He was a member of Resurrection Parish - St. Joseph’s Church, Byron Fire Department & Rescue Squad and the LeRoy Moose Club. A veteran, he served with the United States Army.

Survivors include wife, Catherine (Linsler) Litzenberger of Stafford; two sons, Glenn Litzenberger of Pavilion and Gary Litzenberger of Batavia; a daughter, Lynne (Gary) Hopkins of Attica; three stepsons,  William K. Emminger of Fredericksburg, Virginia, John (Mary) Emminger of Batavia and Keith (Jennifer) Emminger of Dansbury, Connecticut; two step-daughters, Kathy (Joseph) Giambra of Lewiston and Linda Emminger of Batavia; three brothers, George (Donna) Litzenberger, Louis (Janet) Litzenberger and  Ralph (Janice) Litzenberger, all of Rochester; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Noel "Butch" Elmore, 65, of Batavia, died Sunday (June 13, 2010) at Rochester General Hospital.

He was born in Batavia on July 9, 1944 a son of the late Thomas and Doris Noel Elmore.

He was a member of Resurection Parish (St. Joseph Church) in Batavia and was retired from the Batavia Department of Pulbic Works.

Surviving is his wife of over 43 years, Dorothy A. Batchelor Elmore whom he married on July 9, 1944. Two daughters and sons in law: Kim and Paul McCullough of E. Pembroke and Cindy and Sean Galt of W. Palm Beach, FL.  Three brothers and two sisters in law: Thomas and Joann Elmore, Richard Elmore and Paul and Roseann Elmore. Four sisters and two brothers in law: Sandra and Keith O'Brien, Ann and Kenneth Downs, Mary Jane Stafford  and Collen Harmon.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was the brother of the late: James, Robert and Genevieve Elmore.

LeRoy/Stafford - Mrs. Ruth E. Smith, 69, of Stafford, a school teacher for 15 years prior to her retirement in 1993, died Thursday, June 10, 2010at her home, in the town of Stafford.

Mrs. Smith was born March 19, 1941 in Dunkirk, a daughter of the late Oscar E. and Marion (Mansfield) Weiss.

She was a charter member of Bethel Baptist Church (established in 1978), was a 1959 graduate of Hamburg High School and graduated in 1963 from Houghton College with a BA in English. She was the church pianist and served in Children's Ministries and was the church clerk. 

She taught at the Pembroke Central, Pavilion Baptist Christian and North Baptist Christian Schools.

She is survived by her husband, Lawrence M. Smith whom she married February 12, 1966; four children, Daniel L. (Tasha) Smith of Byron, Steven M. (Denise) Smith of Lebanon, IN, Elizabeth (Robert) Corcimiglia of South Byron and Andrew M. (Stacey) Smith of Batavia; a brother, John Weiss of OH; 4 sisters, Bonnie Weiss of Buffalo, Carol Weiss of Nyack, Nancy (Sean) Meade of CA, Joanne (Davey) Janus of SC.  

She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 1 niece and 1 nephew.

Batavia - Mrs. Revina P. Rich, 80, of Batavia, peacefully passed on to be with the Lord on Friday, June 11, 2010at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.

Mrs. Rich was born December 22, 1929 in Batavia, a daughter of the late George and Inez O'Dell Porter.

She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Batavia and former member of the Oakfield-Alabama Baptist Church. Mrs. Rich was a loving wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed attending church and social events with her husband and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved to travel with her husband in their motor home, visiting 48 different states in approximately 10 years.

Revina is survived by her loving husband, Dean E. Rich, whom she married May 28, 1949; 7 children, Gregory (Marcy) Rich, Kevin (Kathy) Rich, Laurie (Mark) Castiglione, Shelley (Mark) Mikolajczyk,  Doreen (Ronald) Wickings, Paul (Debra) Rich and Beth Ann (David) Chase; a sister, Marlene (Donald) Bausolel; 17 grandchildren and step-grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren and one the way.
