Robert G. Turner

Batavia - Mr. Robert G. Turner, 78, of Batavia, died Friday, (April 1, 2011) at the Batavia Nursing Home.

Mr. Turner was born October 2, 1932 in Batavia, the son of the late Clair and Emily (Hampton) Turner.

He was a member of the South Byron United Methodist Church and the Genesee County Stamp and Coin Club. Mr. Turner worked for the New York State Department of Transportation for 35 years and then went to work at the Genesee Country Village & Museum. A veteran, Mr. Turner served with the United States Navy from 1951-1955. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley (Fuller) Turner of Batavia, whom he married in 1953; two sons, Randy (Patricia) Turner of Batavia and Rodney (Cindy Williams) Turner of Corfu; a daughter, Suzanne (Kevin) Dart of Elba; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Calling hours are Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday also at the funeral home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Batavia.

James Edward Place

James Edward Place, 66, of Akron, died Sunday (March 27, 2011) at Millard Fillmore Gates Circle Hospital in Buffalo.

He was born in Eden, NY on February 4, 1945 a son of Elizabeth (Betty) McGennis Place and the late George A. Place.

Mr. Place was a member of St. Teresa of Avila RC Church in Akron.  He was an avid artist and was a graduate of Eden High School.

Surviving besides his mother are several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is the brother of the late George W. Place.

Visitation will be Thursday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM at the  J. LEONARD MCANDREW FUNERAL HOME, LLC., 32 JOHN ST., AKRON, where prayers will be Friday at 9:30AM followed ba a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM at St. Teresa of Avila RC Church.

Burial will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery in the Town of Royalton.

Karen Penkszyk

Karen Penkszyk, 52, of Alexander, died Tuesday (March 29, 2011) at Crossroads House in Batavia after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Batavia on April 24, 1958, a daughter of Michael Penkszyk of Alexander and the late Eleanor Kryzak Penkszyk who died in 1987.

Karen was a member of Ascension Parish (Sacred Heart Church).  She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, needle point and knitting.

Surviving besides her father are three sisters:  Mary Ann Penkszyk, Rosemarie Penkszyk and Sharon Penkszyk all of Alexander.  Two brothers:  Michael Penkszyk Jr. of TN and David (Sandra) Penkszyk of Virginia Beach, VA.  Nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins also survive.

There are no calling hours. 


Private services will be conducted at the convenience of the family with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Raymond E. Morris

Morris, Raymond E. 66 of Batavia died March 27, 2011 at Serenity House in Victor. Mr. Morris worked for many years at Delphi in Rochester. He was a United States Marine Veteran.

 Survived by wife Patricia Morris; daughter Amber (Fiance Adam Callari) Morris; step-children Michael (Tammy), David (Carrie), Gary (Lisa) Wiest; Joseph (Ashley) Muniz, Debby Owen, Mary (John) Bauer, Beth Muniz; brother Larry (Linda) Morris; sister Carol (Dave) Cullen; step-grandchildren Ryan, Elijah Bauer, Joshua Muniz along with several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Thursday March 31, at Northgate Free Methodist Church 8160 Bank St. Rd. Batavia, NY 14020.

DAVID WOLCOTT

     Age 66, of Byron, died Friday morning at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. He was born July 17, 1944 in Buffalo, a son of the late John & Catherine (Cammarata) Wolcott and was also preceded in death by a son John A.; brothers John and Donald Wolcott. A self-employed handy-man he was an excellent carpenter and mechanic. He was the head of security at the Leisurewood Campground in Akron for many years. A former Byron Volunteer Fireman, member of the former Moose Club and former Elks Club.

     Surviving is his fiance Rita Pfenninger of Byron; children Timothy of FL, Michael of Batavia, Catherine (Dallas) Sands and Tracey (Robert) O'Shea all of FL; brother Michael J. (Lori) of TX and sisters Joan (Chauncey) Watches of Hornell, Mary (late James) Fitch and Donna Wolcott both of Batavia; 7 grandchildren along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

     Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial gathering from 2-4 PM at the Byron Fire Hall Saturday April 2, 2011. In lieu of flowers memorials in his memory are suggested to the family with burial in North Byron Cemetery.

Louis Pascucci

Louis Pascucci, 89, of Batavia, died Saturday (March 26, 2011) at United Memorial Medical Center.

He was born in Batavia on July 31, 1921, a son of the late James and Mary Sammarco Pascucci.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Margaret who died in 1993. 

Surviving is his wife, Nancy Durham Pascucci whom he married on May 27, 1995.  Three stepchildren: Elizabeth (Thomas) Lewis-Saunders of Baltimore, MD,  Jennifer (Jeron) Lewis-Drew of West Falls, NY and Robert Lewis of Baltimore, MD.  Three grandchildren: Gabriel (Lorraine) Saunders, Nicholas Drew and Kelsey Drew.  Three sisters: Irene Lewis of Sodus, NY, Delores (Joseph) Lonzo of Hamlin, NY and Jean Pascucci of Batavia.  Two brothers: Nicholas (Florence) Pascucci of Stafford and James (Margaret) Pascucci of Rochester.  A sister in law, Mary Lou Pascucci of Rochester.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.  He was the brother of the late: Edith Kipp, Joseph, Dominic, John and Victor Pascucci.

Mr. Pascucci served during W.W. II with the U.S. Navy and was a member of Ascension Parish (St. Anthony's Church), Msgr. Kirby Knight of Columbus, Fr. Vincent Capadono Fourth Degree Assembly, Life member of Veness- Strollo Post 1602 VFW, former member of Batavia Lions Club and a former member of the Batavia Board of Assesment. He was retired from General Motors Co. in Rochester where he was a tool and die maker. His favorite hobbies were making pasta, reading poetry and making stained glass lamp shades.

Friends may call Tuesday from 4 - 8 PM at the J. LEONARD MCANDREW FUNERAL HOME,LLC., 2 BOGUE AVE., BATAVIA..  Prayers will be Wednesday at the J. Leonard McAndrew Funeral Home at 10:15 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at Ascension Parish, (St. Anthony's Church).

The Msgr. Kirby Council Knights of Columbus will assemble at the funeral home on Tuesday at 6:30PM for a prayer service.

Burial will follow in Grand View Cemetery with full military honors.

Santo J. Consiglio, Sr.

Santo J. Consiglio, Sr., 82 of Perry died March 24, 2011 at the Wyoming County Skilled Nursing Facility in Warsaw. Born in Perry, New York on August 24, 1928. He is son of the late Vito (Josephine Lackuisa) Consiglio. Mr. Consiglio worked for many years as a Meat Cutter. He was a WWII Army Veteran and member of St. Joseph’s Church in Perry. Mr. Consiglio was an avid Accordion player, playing in bands like the Checker Boys, Ex-Checks, Kelly’s Old Timers, and the Swingsters which was his starting band in High School. Preceded in death by his wife Roberta Consiglio and a sister Edith Clarke.

He was the father of Janette Consiglio of Batavia; Joseph (Joanie) Consiglio of Bloomfield; Vito (Tracy McAllister) Consiglio of Gainesville; Santo (Trista Imzinna) Consiglio Jr. of Gainesville; Josephine Consiglio of Perry; brother of Nina Consiglio of Perry; Grandfather to Michael Lloyd, Ryan Consiglio, Joseph Consiglio, Justus Ryan, Jacob Consiglio, James McAllister, Joshua Chase, and Samantha Chase along with several nieces and nephews.

LOUISE E. MARTINO

     Age 90, of Batavia, died peacefully Wednesday morning March 23, 2011 at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia She was born January 8, 1921 in Batavia, daughter of the late Peter & Amelia (Vendetta) Cervone, wife of the late Anthony A. Martino who died on June 7, 2010 and was also preceded in death by her sisters Laura Sinibaldi, Mary Cervone and Irene Emmi. Mrs. Martino was a longtime member of Ascension Parish (St. Anthony's) and worked for many years at Sylvania.

     Surviving are her beloved children Gail (Enzo) Giuliani of Batavia; Anthony John "AJ" (Dinorah) Martino of Florida; brother Dominic Cervone of Oakfield; sisters Blanche Ricci of Angola and Josephine Cervone of Batavia; 7 grandchildren Enzo A. Giuliani of Batavia; Denise M. (Michael) Gallego and their children Rheanna E. & Austin M. Gallego all of Hamburg, NY; Gina Trubrits, Anthony, Tiffany, Jason & Brittany Martino; many great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.

Nicholas F. "Nick" DiFalco

Nicholas F. “Nick” DiFalco, 75 of Batavia. Died March 19, 2011 peacefully at the Crossroads House in Batavia. Born May 5, 1935 in Batavia, NY. He is son of the late Nicholas (Louise Battelini) DiFalco. Mr. DiFalco was a devote Catholic and attended Mass daily at St. Mary’s Church in Batavia. He was a United States Army Veteran having served from 1955-1957. Nick worked for many years at GTE Sylvania here in Batavia. He was an avid New York Yankee Fan who loved golf, sports, his dog Sara, and meeting with his dear friends for coffee. Nick is preceded in death by brothers Dominick and James DiFalco; sister Constance Pittinaro.     
                                                                                                                        
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Mary Ann (Ziccardi) DiFalco of Batavia along with his beloved nieces and nephews.

PATSY STROLLO

       Age 83, of Batavia, died unexpectedly Saturday morning March 19, 2011 at United Memorial Medical Center. He was born May 7, 1927 in Batavia, son of the late Policarpo & Antonia (Fornataro) Strollo and also preceded in death by brothers Modesto & George Strollo, sister Mary Strollo and granddaughter Michelle Thompson. Mr. Strollo was a corrections officer at Attica State Prison for over 25 years, a longtime member of Ascension Parish and the St. Michael's Society. A member of the former St. Nick's Club, he could be seen frequenting Harrington's Produce, the Farmer's Market and stops at the Pok-A Dot or Cookies-n-Milk for coffee with his pals. He enjoyed hunting pheasants and was an avid Notre Dame High School sports fan, especially watching his grandson play. Mr. Strollo will be remembered for the wonderful care he has provided his ailing wife, the love for his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his infectious smile.

     Surviving is his beloved wife of 58 years Barbara (Schumacher) Strollo of Batavia; loving children Patrick (Sharon) Strollo of St. Louis, MO; Thomas (Donna) Strollo of Chicago, IL; David (Judy) Strollo of Vancouver, BC; Therese (Leonard) Hanel of Grand Island; Marie (Stacy) Thompson of Batavia & Mary Ellen (John) Kososki of Spencerport; brother Anthony (Lucy) Strollo and sister Lucy Bucciferro all of Batavia. 16 grandchildren Aileen Hanel, Peter (Angela) Hanel, Katie (Dan) Slaiman, Erin Hanel, Kara, Nick, Kristin, Alaina Strollo, Matthew Thompson, Jason, Shannon Strollo, Jillian, Lauren, Jacob Kososki, Claudia & Celia Strollo; 4 great-grandchildren Dayla Sheshany, Dominick Hanel, Aileen Slaiman, Damion Hanel along with many nieces and nephews.

Margaret Mary Majerus

Margaret Mary Majerus, 91 of Batavia, NY. Died March 13, 2011 at the United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. Born November 7, 1919 in North Java, NY. Daughter of the late Julius (Elizabeth Hanley) Grimm. Margaret was housekeeper and cook for over 50 years at St. Joseph’s Rectory in Batavia. She enjoyed her time at St. Joseph’s and became great friends with all of the Priests. She stayed in touch with them throughout the years and felt they were her extended family. For a short time she was a kindergarten teacher at St. Joseph’s School. She never had children of her own but always considered the children she taught as her children. Margaret was truly devoted to the church and attended mass daily. She is preceded in death by her husband Bernard “Barney” Majerus who passed away in 1997; sisters Elizabeth (John) Siler, Geraldine (Dez) Roblee, Eleanor (Francis) Tatarka, and brother Paul Norton.

She is survived by her loving nieces, nephews and godchildren. 

There will be no prior calling hours. A 9:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday March 17, 2011 at Resurrection Parish-St. Joseph’s Church 303 East Main Street Batavia, New York 14020. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Kathleen A. "Kathie" Catino

Kathleen A. “Kathie” Catino, 60 of Batavia, NY. Died March 13, 2011 at her home. Born October 29, 1950 in Batavia, New York. Daughter of the late Howard Hartley and Mary (Kiley) Hartley of Batavia. Kathie was a member of Resurrection Parish-St. Mary’s Church for many years. She truly loved the beach especially the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

She is survived by her husband James G. “Jim” Catino of Batavia; son Cain A. Catino of Rome, NY; daughter Kelly (Robert) Casey of Syracuse; grandchildren Liam, Norah and Finnegan Casey all of Syracuse; brothers Frank (Gretchen) Hartley of Houston, TX; Paul Hartley of CA; Thomas “Gorman” (Pamela) Hartley of Henrietta; Peter (Cindy) Hartley of LeRoy; Howard (Laurie) Hartley of Houston, TX; sisters Susan (Bart) Dambra of LeRoy; Mary Balonek of Virginia Beach, VA; Ann (Joseph) Zawicki of Elba; Eileen (Steve) Vincent of Rockport, TX, along with many nieces and nephews also survive.

Teresa M. Couillard

Teresa M. Couillard, 96 of Batavia. Died March 12, 2011 In the Genesee County Nursing Home, Batavia. Born May 17, 1914 in Saranac, NY, to the late Edward (Lottie Greenwood) Jacobs. 

She is preceded in death by her husband Eugene O. Couillard in 1984, brothers Fred, Lynn, Pearly, Richard, William, Harold and Manard Jacobs; sisters Mildred Salvadore, Maude North, Myrtle Wilsey, Jessie Pratt and Edna Rich.

She is survived by her son Richard (Bernice) Couillard of Batavia; granddaughters Paula Logdson of FL; Lynne Couillard of Webster; Debbie Crossett of Batavia; 6 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

 Burial will take place at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Rockhill, CT.

REBECCA JEAN GIBSON

Age 77, of Oakfield, NY, died Sunday afternoon at United Memorial Medical Center. She was born July 20, 1933 in Newmine, PA, daughterof the late Cyrus W. & Rose (Lantz) Moore. She was also preceded in death by her hsuband Ronald G. Gibson Sr. on Dec. 15, 2010; brothers William & John Moore; sisters Minnie Jane Moore, Carrie Hellman, Dorothy Hellman-Davis, Mae Moore, Ruth Moore & Betty L. Kastelic; two great-grandchildren Ally Walker and Evan Ferchen. Mrs. Gibson was an avid bingo player, enjoyed crafts, crocheting, very accomplished at making wedding cakes and in her private, quiet time, loved to read the bible.

     Surviving are her dear children Ronald G. (Deborah) Gibson Jr. of Batavia; Michael L. (Patricia) Gibson of Oakfield; Gloria (Stephen) Ferchen of Lockport; Judith (Frank) Mack of Elba; Susan (Richard) Abraham of Akron & Betty (Lynn) Kirchner of Oakfield. Brothers James (Helen) Moore of Byron; Jack Moore of Florida; brother-in-law Edward Kastelic of Oakfield; sister-in-law Imogene Moore of Arizona; 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild along with many nieces and nephews survive.

GINA T. ORSINI

     Age 95, of Batavia, died peacefully Friday afternoon March 11, 2011 at the Genesee County Nursing Home. She was born April 27, 1915 in Glens Falls, NY, daughter of the late Louis & Mary (Grassucci) Tasciotti and also preceded in death by her husband Peter Orsini in 1968. Mrs. Orsini and her late husband were the owners of the LaCabanna Restaurant in Glen Lake, NY for many years.

     Surviving are her children Peter (Judy) Orsini of Atlanta, GA; Mary Orsini of Norwich, CT and Jeanne (the late John) Dermody of Elba; 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

     There is no prior visitation and Funeral Services will be at the convenience of the family with a private burial.
