Robert R. Adam, III

Batavia - Robert R. Adam, III, 72, of Batavia, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Crossroads House.

Robert was born July 23, 1943 in Sayre, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Robert R. Adam, II and Betty Daniels Adam.

He taught himself to play the electric guitar and loved listening to country and county/gospel music. Robert was proud of his bicycle and enjoyed riding around the Havenwood Apartments. In May of 2014, he was honored by the Genesee ARC for his 35 years of dedicated service. That evening, Robert received proclamations from Senator Ranzenhofer and Assemblyman Hawley.

Robert had a deep faith and belief in the Lord and had a large collection of ceramic angels. "Lord build me a cabin in the corner of Gloryland."

There are no prior visiting hours. Friends are invited to Robert’s graveside service on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery, Harvester Avenue.  *Please drive to the back of the cemetery as you enter in from Harvester Avenue*. KAREN M. NIELSEN

KAREN M. NIELSEN

Age 63, of Medina, died peacefully Monday March 28, 2016 at Roswell Park cancer Institute. She was born February 25, 1953 in Logan, Utah, a daughter of Val M. Nielsen of Salt Lake City, Utah and the late Dora Lee (Yeates) Nielsen also preceded in death by a brother, Bruce Nielsen. 

She was a 1972 graduate of Kearns High School and attended Utah Career College, back home in Salt Lake City she enjoyed hunting, horses and horseback riding. Karen moved to Western New York about 20 years ago and worked for 10 years at Chase Bank in Albion. She enjoyed gardening, especially her flower garden at home, had a love of animals and family outings. 

Surviving along with her father is her partner of 17 years, Christine Hess of Medina; siblings, Kathy (Kent) Dunyon, Lynda (Richard) Sadler, Mike Nielsen and Forest (Mary) Nielsen all of Salt Lake City, Utah; a "son", George (Anastasia) Hanson of Salt Lake City along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins in New York and Utah. 

A Celebration of Life for Karen will be held privately by her family and memorials in her memory can be made to the family.

Scott D. Harris

  Scott D. Harris, 52, of Oakfield passed away peacefully on March 28, 2016 at Hospice Buffalo in Cheektowaga surrounded by his family. He was born on September 8, 1963 to Jack and Betty (Ruffino) Harris of Oakfield.

Scott was the founder and President of Millwork Solutions Inc., and owner of Harris Mill Street Properties LLC.of Batavia, New York. He was a lifelong resident of Oakfield, NY, A graduate of Oakfield/Alabama class of 1981 and Alfred State College class of 1983. Scott was a member of the Eagle Creek Yacht Club in Kendall, NY. He was an avid Hunter, Golfer, Snowmobiler, Sabre, Yankees, and Bills Fan. Scott’s family and friends are everything to him.

Scott is survived by his loving wife of 31 years; Karen (Heitzhaus) Harris; sons Nicholas (Nina) Harris, Corey Harris, daughter McKenzie (Matthias Schuster) Harris; a grandson Tanner Scott Harris; in-laws James and Ellen Heitzhaus, sisters Suzanne (Tim) Schultz, Pamela (Ron) Bordinaro, Jacqueline Cole, brother–in-law and sister-in-law James E. Heitzhaus and Suzan (Dan Hencken) Mattson; along with many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and Nieces and Nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on April 2, 2016 at 11 a.m. at St. Padre Pio Parish 56 Maple Ave. Oakfield, New York 14125. He will be laid to rest in St. Cecilia’s Cemetery in Oakfield.

Matilda DeSantis

Matilda DeSantis, 100 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Monday (March 28, 2016) at United Memorial Medical Center.

She was born August 9, 1915 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Joseph and Maria Soccio Zinni.

Matilda was employed by the former Sylvania Products of Batavia prior to her retirement. She was a lifelong resident of Batavia and a member of Ascension Parish. She enjoyed reading, cooking and solving word puzzles.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest DeSantis. Sisters, Rose Zinni, Lucy Nigro and Mary Coppini. Brothers, Nicholas, Rocco and Val Zinni.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary M. (Robert) Scinta of Batavia. Sons, Nicholas J. (late Evelyn) DeSantis of Fort Myers, FL and Joseph D. DeSantis of Batavia. Grandchildren, Lori Veltz, Lisa DeSantis, Linda DeSantis, Robert Scinta Jr., Marcy Bedette and Michael Bezon. Also survived by great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are cordially invited to share in her Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday (March 31st), 11:00am at Ascension Parish (corner of Sumner and Swan Sts). Entombment will be in the Msgr. Schwartz Mausoleum of St. Joseph Cemetery.

Dorothy M. Nesbitt

North Chili/Batavia - Dorothy M. Nesbitt, 89, of North Chili and formerly of Batavia, died Monday (March 28, 2016) at the Leo Center for Caring in Rochester.

Dorothy was born November 29, 1926 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Richard and Marian (Heintz) Nesbitt.

Dorothy will be remembered for always having a smile and willing to help others.  She attended church service and enjoyed reading the Bible. Dorothy was an office worker at Teale Machine Co. in Rochester.

Survivors include one brother, Harold (Nan) Nesbitt of Batavia; her nieces and nephews, David Nesbitt of Pavilion, Thomas (Melanie) Nesbitt of Byron, Karen Mortise of Canastota, Daniel (Regina) Nesbitt of Batavia, Paul (Brenda) Nesbitt Jr. of Batavia, James (Sandra) Mericle of Texas, Clent Mericle of Texas and Carl (Myong) Mericle of Texas and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Dorothy is a sister of the late Paul Nesbitt and Virginia Mericle and an aunt of the late Steven Nesbitt and Linda Mericle.

Jane G. Vickers

  Jane G. Vickers, age 91, of Titusville Florida formerly of Perry, passed away on Sunday March 27, 2016 at the Morgan Estates Assisted Living Community in Geneseo where she had been residing surrounded by her family. Jane was born July 19, 1924 in Canandaigua, New York to the late Paul and Gertrude Tuohey.  She is preceded in death by her husband William “Bill” Vickers who passed away in 2007; siblings Mary D’Ambrosia, Jean Sapienza and James Tuohey.

Jane was a graduate of Canandaigua Academy, and received her Bachelor’s degree in education from SUNY Geneseo. She was an Elementary Teacher for 24 years at Perry Elementary School teaching First grade and eventually moving to the third grade .She was a member of St. Isidore’s Catholic Parish (St. Joseph’s Church), several bridge clubs in Perry and Florida, the Silver Lake Country Club, The Great Outdoors Community and Golf Club, and the Ladies Golf Association in Silver Lake and in Florida. She was an avid bridge player and golfer. Jane also enjoyed going to bingo, knitting, sewing, doing Swedish weaving and going to the theater. She was a volunteer usher at the Playhouse Theater in Florida.

She is survived by daughters Martha (Paul) Pachuta, Susan (Daniel) Sherman both of Perry; sons Stephen (Pamela) Vickers of Warsaw, Mark Vickers of Pavilion; 8 grandchildren Christina and Lucas Pachuta, Amanda and Nicole Sherman, Bryan and Sam Vickers, Matthew and Corey Vickers,  step grandson Hondo (Marta) Humberstone; 2 great grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior visitation. A  4:00PM  Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday March 30, 2016 at Eaton-Watson Funeral Home, LLC. 98 North Main Street Perry, New York 14530. She will be laid to rest in West Perry Cemetery.

JAMES B. "HUMMER" McFOLLINS

JAMES B. "HUMMER" McFOLLINS

Age 65, of Batavia, died Friday morning March 25, from complications of Diabetes at Unity Hospital in Rochester with his family at his side. He was born July 13, 1950 in Buffalo, NY, a son of the late James McFollins and Virginia (Harper) also preceded in death by sister, Gloria Johnston; a sister-in-law, Thelma Dimmick; brother-in-law, Raymond VanBuren. 

Hummer was a United States Army Veteran, formerly employed at Sylvania, Eaton Yale & Towne. His final career of 25 years in corrections was at the Wyoming Correctional Facility where he had the respect of not only his peers but the inmates he supervised, being known as  "Mac Daddy". He was a sports enthusiast who could speak of and follow any sport and was an avid Buffalo Bills and New York Yankees fan. Jim was very proud of his home and tended to every aspect of it from mowing the lawn to shoveling the driveway of the snow. He was known to have a soft spot for animals of any kind, although his cats, Dolly and Baby were his pride and joy. He had a fondness for the Bob Ross style of painting. Using this style he mastered many paintings of his own over a 30 year period. James was an exceptional loving and caring husband who always put his wife first. They shared a 40 year love story that will be cherished forever. 

Surviving is the love of his life, Janice (McDonald) McFollins of Batavia; son, Michael J. (Lisa) Metzler, Sr. of Rochester and their children, Michael J. Metzler, Jr. and Alyse E. Metzler; step-mother, Martha McFollins of Ohio; sister, Lynette McFollins of Buffalo and brother, Allen (Mary Sue) McFollins of Batavia; sisters-in-law, Pedgy VanBuren and Maureen (Jeff) Schirmer; brothers-in-law, Arnold Dimmick and Edward W. (Maxine) McDonald; nephews, Aaron (Ashley) McFollins and Jason McFollins; great-nephews, Mason, Javin, Carter, Ayden and Memphis; great-nieces, Jamaica, Tiquira and best buddy, Don Koch, Sr.                                                                                                                 

The family will be present on Friday April 1, 2016 from 4 - 8pm at the Michael S. Tomaszewski Funeral & Cremation Chapel, LLC 4120 West Main Street Road Batavia, New York 14020 where a Service of Remembrance will be held 1:00pm Saturday April 2. Full military honors will follow services and the Patriot Guard stand in honor. Bertha J. Gage

Batavia - Bertha J. Gage, 92, of Batavia, passed away Easter Sunday, (March 27, 2016) at Batavia Health Care Center, in Batavia.

Mrs. Gage was born July 1, 1923 in Elba, NY, the daughter of the late John and Flossie (Harvey) Bartz.

Mrs. Gage was a past member of Stone Presbyterian Church as well as a past member of Batavia Assembly of God Church.  She cherished time spent with her family.  She never missed a family function and greatly looked forward to the annual family reunion.  She enjoyed sewing, embroidery, patchwork and quilting.  She took great pride in creating a handmade treasure for many members of her family. One of Bertha’s favorite pastimes was taking walks in the woods behind her home. 

She is the wife of the late Laverne I. Gage, who passed away on August 28, 2001. 

She is survived by her children, Dorothy (David) Dixon of Port Byron, Nancy (William) Marinucci of Churchville, Lucille (late Denny) Zeghdani of Bergen, and Jerry Gage of Rochester.  Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter, 3 brothers and a sister along with several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Gage is preceded in death by 5 brothers and 3 sisters.

Friends may call on Friday (April 1, 2016) from 10 to 12 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main St., Batavia, where Bertha’s Funeral Service will immediately following calling at 12:00 p.m.  Burial will be in Grand View Cemetery, Batavia.

Michelle M. "Shell" Mouery

Stafford ~ Michelle M. "Shell" Mouery, age 50, of Main Road, passed away Friday afternoon (March 25, 2016) at Rochester General Hospital in the loving presence of her family.

    

She was born November 11, 1965 in Batavia, a daughter of Margaret Meisner and the late David Scharlau.

     Besides being a loving mother, daughter and sister, Michelle was best known as the longtime owner and proprietor of the Stafford Trading Post.  Her love for the Town of Stafford and her generosity towards its residents was very evident.  In addition to her devotion to her business, she was a part-time registered nurse, a past member of the Stafford Town Council and a member of SCOPE, the Stafford FD Ladies Auxiliary and the Morganville United Church of Christ.

     In addition to her father, Michelle was predeceased by her son, Joshua Ian Mouery on March 30, 2014.

     She will be lovingly missed by her son, John (Savannah Cook) Macan of Dayton, TX; her mother, Margaret Meisner of Stafford; her siblings, Melissa (Pierce) Thompson of NC, David Scharlau of GA, Scott (Barb) Scharlau of Cheektowaga and Lynn (Roy) Bailey of Ithaca, along with her special friend, Jim Wilson, her grandson, Eli Saile and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and an endless circle of friends in the Stafford community.

     The family will be present to greet Michelle's friends for a Celebration of Her Life at the Stafford Fire Dept. Recreation Hall on Tuesday, March 29 from 4 ~ 8 P.M.

     A sincere thanks to the medical staff in the CTICU unit of Rochester General Hospital for the care and compassion that was shown during her time there.

     In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to either Crossroads House or to the Shelly Mouery Memorial Scholarship Fund which will establish an endowment fund within the nursing program at Genesee Community College.

Margaret "Peggi" Grogan Friedman

Batavia ~ Margaret "Peggi" Grogan Friedman, age 59, of Bank Street, passed away Friday evening (March 25, 2016) at Rochester General Hospital with her loving family at her side.

     She was born September 11, 1956 in Buffalo, NY, a daughter of the late Joseph William and Martha Bliss Grogan.

     She was a very active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Batavia, an avid reader, crossword puzzle enthusiast and had a deep love and appreciation for animals, especially song birds.

     Peggi is survived by her daughters, Rebecca Friedman and Suzanna Friedman; her significant other, Lynn Baker; her siblings, Patti Grogan, Maggi (Doug) Royle, Suzi (Brian) deBruijn, Kati (Bob) Baker and Kelli Grogan Brown, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

     Family and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Service on Wednesday, Mar. 30 at 6:00 P.M. at the First Presbyterian Church of Batavia, 300 E. Main Street, where a reception will immediately follow for a time of sharing memories with Peggi's family.

Susan L. Brick

 Susan L. (Colwell) Brick, age 70, of Corfu passed away peacefully on Saturday March 26, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. Sue was born on April 23, 1945, the daughter of Marion and the late William Colwell.

Mrs. Brick was a prior owner of numerous craft stores throughout Western New York, past president of the Niagara Frontier Craftsmen.  Having many interest in crafts, baking, gardening and friends. Sue’s true joy in life came from her family, especially her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, William N. Brick; daughters Kim (Mark) Hutton and  Shelly (John) Gloss; sons Lonnie (Terri) Brick, Jerry (Mary Beth) Brick and Christopher (Lauryn) Brick; 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; sister of Kay (late Joseph) Helfrich, Donna Kroh and William (Cheryl) Colwell along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.

Laura J. Fauth

Laura Jane Fauth, 74, of Corfu, passed at her home, Tuesday (March 22, 2016) with her family by her side.

Laura was born on July 20, 1941, in Batavia, a daughter of the late Winifred and Esther (Commander) Fisher. She was a Darien Telephone Company operator and a beautician. Laura was a Life member of the Corfu Fire Department and a member of the Auxiliary. She was active in many different community organizations over the years.

Laura loved to go camping and boating with her family. Laura was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Surviving are her beloved husband of 57 years, Edward G. Fauth Jr.; dear children, Susan Fauth-Reckahn and Edward (Patricia) Fauth; precious grandchildren, Ben Reckahn, Glenn Reckahn, Megan (Justin) Benedict, Scott Fauth and Alex Fauth; one great grandchild, Jackson Benedict and three sisters, Mary Joy Toal, Winnie Ball and Sylvia Johnson. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation and remembrance on Saturday, April 2, 2016, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Pembroke Community Center (Corfu Fire Hall) 116 East Main Street, Corfu.

Eva F. Hamers

  Eva F. Hamers, age 71, of Batavia passed away suddenly at her home on Wednesday, March 23, 2016.  She was the daughter of the late Archie and Jennette Hamers of Lancaster. Eva was predeceased by sister Beverly Crego of Amherst.

She is survived by sisters; Cora Sroka (Jerry) of Marilla and Janice Dawne (Howard) of Batavia; brothers Ron Gardner (Sandie) of Florida and Charles Hamers of Texas; surviving children include Michael Durkee, Charles(Sonya) Durkee , Jonathan (Marjorie) Hamers, daughters Mary (Bret) Jones and Wendy Davis. She has 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. 

Eva worked several jobs throughout her life including Mallory Timers, Attica State Prison as a seamstress for the Officers’ uniforms, Darien Knitting Mill, and until her passing at Home Depot in Batavia.  Eva enjoyed baking, sewing, arts and crafts and decorating for every holiday possible.

RITA M. ZACK

RITA M. ZACK

Age 90, of Batavia, died peacefully Sunday March 20, 2016 at Medina Memorial Hospital. She was born October 29, 1925 in Batavia, NY, a daughter of the late Edward J. and Cecelia (Hughes) Hinkson also preceded in death by her husband, Edward C. Zack whom she married June 8, 1946; son, Michael Zack in 2003; brothers, Bernard, James and Robert Hinkson; sister, Margaret "Mickey" Yasses and her dog, Buddy. 

Rita was a member of Resurrection Parish (St. Joseph's Church), she worked at GTE Sylvania for 21 years where she was a union steward and secretary, she also worked 10 years for Eastman Kodak Co. A life member and past president of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #1602 in Batavia. 

Surviving are her beloved granddaughters, Crystal (Shane) Leddon of Batavia, Michelle (Phillip Sage) Clor of Batavia and Elizabeth (Joseph) Vallese of Oakfield; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Macy Clor & Langdon Sage, Anthony & Andrew Vallese, Mason & Brooke Leddon; brother-in-law, Edwin Yasses of Batavia along with several nieces and nephews.

MARIAN F. NANNI

Age 91, of Oakfield, died peacefully Tuesday March 22, 2016 at Rochester General Hospital, her family at her side. She was born on November 8, 1924 in Attica, NY, daughter of the late Nicholas and Lydia (Eichenberger) Bartholomew also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edmond Nanni; daughter, Christine Allen; siblings, Frank and Joseph Bartholomew and Marguerite Nanni. 

Mrs. Nanni was a member of St. Padre Pio Parish in Oakfield, an avid golfer, enjoyed reading, her computer and Facebook. A true "sports fanatic", she loved to watch professional golf, the Buffalo Bills and closely followed the Syracuse University basketball team. Marian's true joy in life came from her family, especially her children and grandchildren. 

Surviving are her children, Gary (Laurie) Nanni and Jamie (Gary) DiSalvo all of Oakfield; grandchildren, Lynn (Nick) Gehlert, Angus Abrams, Jennifer (Pete) Shaffer, Michelle and Christopher Nanni, Matthew (Jessica) DiSalvo, Christy (fiance, Daniel Campbell) DiSalvo, Kaeleigh, Nicole and Nathaniel DiSalvo, Mark (Kathy) Allen, Kevin (Kristie) Allen; great-grandchildren, Jake Gehlert, Levi DiSalvo, Addison, Emily & Chase Allen; son-in-law, David (Carol) Allen of Batavia along with many nieces and nephews. 

The family will be present from 3 - 9pm on Tuesday March 29, 2016 at the MICHAEL S. TOMASZEWSKI FUNERAL & CREMATION CHAPEL, LLC 4120 WEST MAIN STREET ROAD BATAVIA, NEW YORK 14020 where prayers will be recited 9:15am Wednesday March 30 followed by a 10:00am Mass of Christian Burial St. Padre Pio Parish (St. Cecelia's Site). She will be laid to rest alongside her beloved Edmond   in the church cemetery and memorials in her memory can be made to the Oakfield Volunteer Fire Department 20 Albert Street Oakfield, NY or the Haxton Memorial Library 3 North Pearl Street Oakfield, NY 14125.
