Ray W. Luzier

Ray W. Luzier, 82, of Batavia, died Friday (May 24, 2013) at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

He was born in Carthais, PA on February 9, 1931, a son of the late Kyle and Thelma McGonagail Luzier.

Ray was a volunteer driver for the Disabled American Veterans Van for many years. He retired from Ford Motor Company in Lackawana and was a bartender for over 15 years at Jim's Saloon in E. Pembroke. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Batavia and a member of the United Auto Workers Union, Local 897.

Surviving is his wife of over 63 years, Janet M. Cupler Luzier whom he married on August 19, 1950. Two daughters and a son: Thelma and Rick Johnson of Marengo, OH, Cindy and Hal Kreter of E. Pembroke and Raymond and Lori Luzier of Joshua Tree, CA.

Six grandchildren: Kimberly (Jason) Reformat, Jason (Casey) Annis, Stephen (Kara) Kreter, Melinda Kreter, Justin (Amanda) Luzier and Vincent (Rachael) Luzier.  Seven great grand-children also survive. 

Friends of the family are cordially invited to share their thoughts, condolences and fond memories with the family at the J. LEONARD MCANDREW FUNERAL HOME, LLC., 2 BOGUE AVE., BATAVIA on Tuesday (May 28th) from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 PM.  Service will be Wednesday at 11 AM at the funeral home.

CONCETTA M. MERRITT-WHITE

Age 88, of Batavia, died Wednesday morning May 22, 2013 at Rochester General Hospital. She was born May 29, 1924 in Batavia, NY  to the late Emil & Rose (Vendetta) Marone, also preceded in death by her husbands, Larry Merritt in 1963 and James E. White Jr. in 2013; brother, Emil "Buster" Marone and sister, Angeline Marone

Connie was a wonderful, caring mother and enjoyed her dog, Maggie.

Surviving are her loving children, Larry (Michelle Calick) Merritt II, Robert Merritt all of Batavia and Patricia (Wayne Arth) Merritt of Florida; step-daughter, Sherre (Vic) Maile of Batavia; brothers, Paul (Esther) Marone, Dominic Marone all of Batavia, John (Jane) Marone of Lancaster; sisters, Marie Starling and Geraldine Rowcliff both of Florida; granddaughter, Corinne Edelstein and grandson, Chris Boyd along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

Michael D. Pieri

Mike Pieri, 52 of Rochester, died of heart and diabetes complications on May 21, 2013 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. He was born April 12, 1961 in Batavia, beloved son of Francis (Diane Mahoney) Pieri of Knoxville, TN. Despite his illness, since the age of four, Mike enjoyed life and lived it to its fullest. He had a passion for nature, fishing, hunting, antiquing, art work, and history—especially the Civil War period and local Native American history. He cherished his Catholic faith, his family, his fraternity brothers, and his vocation. He graduated from Fredonia State University and Buffalo State University with a bachelors’ degree and masters’ degree respectively. Mr. Pieri was an educator having taught at the Batavia School for the Blind and within the Batavia Public School System – John Kennedy Elementary School – for approximately 20 years. His volunteer activities included service on the Board of Directors for the Holland Land Office and serving in the Paolo Busti Italian organization.

He was a devoted father to Chad Pieri of Rochester; beloved brother of Louis (Robin) of Columbus, OH; Charles (Linda) of Middlebury, IN; Joseph (Kathleen) Pieri of Syracuse, along with several nieces and nephews.

Douglas J. Marshall

LeRoy - Douglas J. Marshall, age 58, of West Main Rd., died at home Friday morning (May 17, 2013) in the loving presence of his family.

     Doug was born September 22, 1954 in Rochester, NY, a son of Robert and Jane O’Connell Marshall.

     He will be remembered as a man who loved his family, his friends and the outdoors.

     In addition to his parents, Robert and Jane Marshall of Mohawk, NY, he is survived by his loving wife, Christina Kessler Marshall, children, Anthony (Meaghan) Marshall of Tuscon, AZ, Amy (Kevin) Simmons of Denver, CO and Alexander (Nichole) Kessler of LeRoy, his 7 grandchildren , a brother, Brian (Scottie) Marshall of Lake Placid, a sister, Sherry (Scott) Kendrick of Pittsburgh, PA, sisters in law, Karen Marshall of Lake Placid and Janet Wren of Mohawk.  He was predeceased by his brothers, Scott Marshall and Kirk Marshall.

JANICE ANN WALKER

Age 61, of Memphis, TN, died peacefully Thursday  May 17, 2013 surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with cancer. She was born December 31, 1951 in Batavia, NY to Genevieve (Moscicki) Walker of Batavia and the late James Walker also preceded in death by granddaughter, Trinity Foster; brother, James Walker Jr. and nephew, Jason J. Gioia.

Janice was a devoted mother and grandmother and she will live on in our hearts and memories forever.

Surviving along with her mother, are her loving children, Karen Williams, Marcy (Jarred) Wenzler, Ashley Ramsey and Morgan (Katie) Ramsey III all of Memphis; brother, John (Wendy) Walker; sister, Pattie (Frank) Gioia all of Batavia; grandchildren, Nikki, Destany and Drake of Memphis; nephews, Frank (Angela) Gioia, Chad Gioia, John (Samantha) Walker and James Walker; niece, Amber Bates all of Batavia along with many dear friends.

LAWRENCE T. "LARRY" LEE

Age 61, of Batavia, NY died peacefully Saturday morning May 18, 2013 at Crossroads House. He was born January 6, 1952 in Batavia, NY to Audrey M. (Warner) Lee of Batavia and the late Thomas K. Lee, also preceded in death by a son, Richard L. Lee.

Larry was well known in the Harness Horse Racing community having owned, drove and trained horses for over 20 years. He has also worked for 23 years with Community Action of Orleans & Genesee, helping people, Larry also enjoyed cooking and gardening, especially tending to his bushes. 

Survivors include his beloved wife, Louise D. (Morgan) Lee of Batavia; son, Steven (Alissa) Lee of New Jersey and their son Lincoln A. Lee; daughter Michelle Lee of New Jersey; step-daughter, Roxanne (Philip) Munger of Oakfield and their children, Morgan and Nicholas; step-daughter, MaryEllen Mercer of Virginia; sister, Diane (late Ronald) Stepp; brothers, Greg (Elsie) Lee, Thomas K. (Cheryl) Lee all of Batavia along with many nieces, nephews.

OLGA D. SNYDER

Age 90, of Batavia, died peacefully Saturday morning May 18, 2013 at United Memorial Medical Center. She was born August 31, 1922 in Dunkirk, NY to the late Thomas R. & Frances (Larsen) Coleman also preceded in death by her husband, Lester Snyder and a brother, Donald R. Coleman.

Mrs. Snyder and her husband owned and trained Harness Race Horses for many years. She enjoyed crafts, gardening and loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren.

Surviving are her loving children, Thomas C. (Carol) Brown of Dunkirk, Margaret A. "Peg" (late Robert) Wetzel and Susann (Bruce) Welka-Passe all of Batavia; 5 grandchildren, Lori (Bob) Brumsted, Warren (Mindy) Welka, Karen (Michael) Vallese, Dawn (Wayne) Donnelly and Robyn (Adam) Benner along with 9 great-grandchildren.

There is no prior visitation and funeral services will be held privately by the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Olga's memory are suggested to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Dunkirk, New York.

Willard P. Henry, Jr.

Willard P. Henry, Jr., 72 of Batavia, died Saturday May 18, 2013 at the United Memorial Medical Center. He was born January 6, 1941 in Spencer, MA to the late Willard P. (Irene Fairbrother) Henry, Sr.. Mr. Henry was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Batavia, a United States Navy Veteran and a Town of Batavia Volunteer Fireman for over 25 years. He was an avid Yankee fan and loved to hunt. Willard loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son Scott Henry in 1985, sisters Margaret Gay and Bernice Davis.    

He is survived by his beloved wife Jean M. (Lindke) Henry of Batavia; daughters Constance (Mark) Post of Byron; Lori (Andrew) Henry-Draper of Batavia; grandchildren Johnathan, Amanda Post, Sean, Coltin Henry; brothers Russell Henry of Holden, MA; George (Becky) Henry of Tonawanda; sister Barbara Starr of Lockport along with several nieces and nephews.

Harold A. Bernhagen

Churchville – Harold A. Bernhagen, age 65, of Chili Riga Center Road, passed away early Friday morning (May 17, 2013) at the Leo Center for Caring in Rochester.

     He was born October 25, 1947 in Uniontown, PA, a son of the late Harold and Elizabeth Kovalcik Bernhagen.

     He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Ann Ratcliff Bernhagen, a sister, Maryella Bernhagen of Yardley, PA, two step-daughters, his aunts and uncles, Vincent and Fran Kovalcik of Rochester, Joseph and Phyllis Kovalcik of PA and Edward and Polly Welsh of PA, along with many cousins.      

     Family and friends may call on Wednesday, May 22 from 10 – 11 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Parish (St. Peter’s Site, 44 Lake St., LeRoy), where his funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 AM.  Interment will be in St. Ignatius Cemetery in Yardley, PA.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady of Mercy Parish, 44 Lake Street, LeRoy, NY 14482.

Kathleen A. Meme

Kathleen was born in Dansville, New York on September 23, 1950 a daughter of the late Robert and Helen Broderick Longhine Sr. Kathleen was a 1973 graduate of Villa Maria College and 1975 graduate of Gannon University in Erie, PA. She worked several years for Villa Maria College as Director of Housing. She loved reading literature, writing short stories, going to live theaters, as well as movie theaters, traveling, and especially enjoyed being a Mom to her son Alex. She is preceded in death by a sister Jody Ormsby, three brothers Robert Jr., Richard and James "JB" Longhine.

She is survived by her husband whom she married on September 29, 1978 Oliver Meme, a son Alex Meme of York, Pa., a brother-in-law: Robert Meme of Morrisville, PA., 3 sister-in-laws: Carol (Kenneth) Pate of Clinton, Miss, Pamela Wallum of Silver Springs and Anchana Longhine of Thailand, 3 nephews: Bradley Harter, Jeffrey Longhine, and David Pate and 3 nieces Tracy Kovarik, Briana and Gabrielle Meme.

Edith B. Dean

Mrs. Edith B. Dean, 99 of Batavia died Thursday May 17, 2013 at the Genesee County Nursing Home in Batavia. She was born May 26, 1913 in Pavilion to the late William B. (Myrta E. Kelly) Calkins and the youngest of nine children. Mrs. Dean was a member of the North Bergen Presbyterian Church, a former member of the Batavia Society of Artist’s and a self-taught musician. She was a foster mother to several boys through the years on their farm in North Bergen. She was predeceased by her husband Merton C. Dean and the mother of a son that died shortly after birth.

She is survived by her nephews Raymond (Laura) Ladd, Spencer Calkins; nieces Norma Baker, Joan Gump, Rose Baker along with other nieces and nephews. 

There will be no prior calling hours. A memorial service will be held at the North Bergen Presbyterian Church on a date to be announced. Interment will be in Mt. Rest Cemetery in Bergen, NY.

Frances Pascucci

Frances Pascucci, 99 of Batavia, died Saturday May 11, 2013 at the United Memorial Medical Center. She was born December 7, 1913 in Batavia to the late Lawrence (Josephine Tenebruso) Torcello. Mrs. Pascucci was a longtime member of St. Anthony’s Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She is preceded in death by her husband Louis Pascucci in 1963; step-daughter Mary Volpe; brothers John, Michael Torcello; sister Mary Tuttobene.    

She is survived by her sister-in-law Jennie Torcello of Rochester; several step-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Annette (Conforto) Marshall

Batavia - Mrs. Annette Marshall, 86, of Batavia, died Saturday (May 11, 2013) at the New York State Veterans Home in Batavia.

Mrs. Marshall was born March 1, 1927 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Michael and Frances Conforto.

A member of Resurrection Parish, Mrs. Marshall’s passion was her home, family and being a master gardener.

Survivors include her children, Donna (David) McKendree of Clinton, Michael Marshall of NYC, NY, Susan (Curtis) Marcott of Johns Island, SC, Robert A. Marshall, Jr. of Sacramento, CA, David Marshall of Columbia, MD and Rebecca (Brian) Schrader of Batavia; a sister, Molly (Eugene) Jankowski of Florida; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Batchellor of Albion; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her husband, Robert Allen Marshall Sr., who died in 2012 and a grandson, Dane Schrader who died in 2010 and 4 siblings, Ann, Theresa, Laura and Alphonso.
 

There are no prior calling hours.  Her Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Resurrection Parish - St. Mary's Church, 18 Ellicott Street, Batavia.  Coffee and Italian cookies will be served in the parish hall after the Mass.

She will be laid to rest at a later date with her husband in Arlington National Cemetery.

RICHARD C. "HUTCH" HUTCHINSON

Age 68, of Holley, died peacefully Thursday morning May 9, 2013 at his home. He was born October 14, 1944 in Rochester, NY to the late Richard and Helen (Hoard) Hutchinson, also preceded in death by his brother, James.

Mr. Hutchinson was a short order cook, car salesman, large machine salesman and found his niche as a C&C programmer; in 2010 he retired from Gettinge in Rochester and within 6 months found himself back to work due to his talents being missed. Hutch retired “for real” in January 2013 and what a shock, often was called back as a consultant. In his early years he enjoyed boating, camping and was a member of the St. Joe’s Drum & Bugle Corp. In 1969 he enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1975. His passion for the Drum Corp. continued as he joined the Rochester Phoenix Sr. Drum & Bugle Corp. from 75-76, after many years of inactivity, Hutch became a charter member of the Mighty St. Joe’s Alumni Drum & Bugle Corp. He loved to vacation and travel with friends, including trips to Italy, England, Hawaii, Alaska and cruises to the Caribbean, was very fond of history, especially of WWII and enjoyed sharing this with others. Hutch enjoyed telling stories, was the best joke teller around, and had a contagious laugh, a passion and love for everyone he met with none bigger that the passion and love he had for his daughter, Mandy.

Surviving is his loving fiancé, Beverly (Groff) Fredericks of Holley; cherished daughter, Mandy of Rochester and her son, Caleb; sister-in-law, Pat Hutchinson; aunt, Carol Novosel; uncle, Richard Hoard along with many dear friends.

Family and friends may visit from 2-4 & 7-9 PM Monday May 13, 2013 at the  Michael S. Tomaszewski Funeral & Cremation Chapel, LLC 4120 West Main Street Road Batavia, New York 14020 where a Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday May 14. Melvin C.Price

Corfu - Melvin C. Price, 86, of the Corfu area and Palmetto, FL passed away Tuesday (May 7, 2013) in Batavia.

Melvin was born July 13, 1926 at home in East Pembroke, a son of Roy C. and Nellie L. Price.  He was a self-employed Plumber, Electrician and Heating Contractor.  Very active in the Corfu area during his working years, he recently split his time between Western New York and Palmetto, Florida.  He was a member of the Corfu United Presbyterian Church and Westminster Presbyterian Church of Bradenton, FL.

Melvin was involved in the community through his participation in the East Pembroke Grange, Corfu I.O.O.F. Lodge 634, Boy Scout Troop 67 committee and the Genesee County Fair Board of Directors.  He was also a past Chief of the Corfu Fire Department.  In Florida, he was instrumental in continuing the Western New York picnic, as well as being active in the Tropic Isles Mobile Park.

Melvin, along with Franklin Doll, developed Thompson Drive and Long's Lane in Corfu.  He was also a founding partner of Corfu Plaza in addition to being the builder/co-owner (with his wife Helen) of Price's Laundry Basket laundromat.

Melvin was predeceased by his parents, Helen C. Price,  his wife of 51 years and his brother and sister-in-law Horace B. and Ellen Price. 

He is survived by two sons, Kenneth (Diane) Price of West Batavia and Keith (Joan) Price of East Pembroke and a daughter, Karla Price of Dacula, GA; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary and Tom Tomlinson and several nieces and nephews.

Beach & Son Mortuary, Inc. 4 East Main St., Corfu.  On Saturday, calling hours will be from 1-3 p.m. at the Corfu United Presbyterian Church, 63 Allegheny St., Corfu. The Funeral service will follow at the church at 3 p.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Corfu.
