Joseph F. Vanelli

Batavia- Mr. Joseph F. Vanelli, 85, of Batavia, passed away Friday, (June 15, 2012)at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Vanelli was born October 29, 1926 in LeRoy, a son of the late Anthony and Blanche (Hale) Vanelli.

Joe was an avid Yankee and Buffalo Bills fan and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He loved going to flea markets as well as garage sales.  Mr. Vanelli was a lover of antiques and liked to pass time by playing cards as well as completing jigsaw puzzles.  He also enjoyed making lamps.    

He is the husband of Alice E. (Henry) Vanelli.  They were married June 6, 1948 and recently celebrated their 64th Wedding Anniversary. 

Along with his wife, Joesph is survived by his daughter, Darcia (David) Barone of Batavia; four grandchildren, David (Tonya) Barone, Holly (Scott) Pownell, Marybeth (Justin McGirr) Stefani, and Timothy Barone, all of Batavia; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald (Loretta) Vanelli of Batavia; sister, Betty (Joe) Matinez of Stafford; and a sister-in-law, Betty Vanelli of Batavia.  Several nieces and nephews also survive. 

He is preceded in death by a grandson, Steven Michael Barone, who passed away in 1996; four siblings, Leonard (late Dorothy) Vanelli, Margaret (late Brownie) Pietrowski, Pearl (late John) Byzduzh, and Robert Vanelli. 

Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Geraldine M. Helmer

Geraldine M. Helmer, age 89, formerly of Lamont died on June 13, 2012 at the Wyoming County Nursing Facility in Warsaw where she had been residing.She was born in Warsaw, NY a daughter of the late Warner and AnaSatsia Nina McCarthy Ellis. Gerry was employed by the former Davis’s Store in Rock Glen, NY, Motorola in Arcade, NY, and retired from Craig DDSO in Sonyea, NY. A member of the Grange, she enjoyed playing cards, yahtzee, bingo, reading, traveling, calling on friends, and especially enjoyed her family at many get togethers. She is preceded in death by her first husband Carlos Spencer and second husband Ervin Helmer. 

She is survived by 6 children: David (Nancy Kramell) Spencer of Pavilion, James (Rose) Spencer of Castile, Donald (Kathy) Spencer of Castile, Joan (Donnie Hardaway) Spencer of Riverview, Fl., Ann Reynard of Rochester and Gert (Kevin Hanlon) Fulmer of Liverpool, NY, 10 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.

William H. Barrett

William H. Barrett age 86, formerly of Leicester, died at the Avon Nursing Home in Avon where he had been residing. He was born in Leicester, NY on December 23,1925 a son of the late William T. (Alice Stocking) Barrett. Bill worked for the former TB Hospital in Mt. Morris as head baker, then worked for the Attica Correctional Facility in Attica as a cook, and retired from the Perry Central School in 1988 where he worked in the custodial department. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Perry Center since 1945, a 50 year member and past Master of the Constellation Lodge #404 of the Free and Accepted Masons, a former member of the Castile Historical Club and Wyoming County Historical Pioneer Association. He enjoyed being Santa Claus in the 1960’s and was very involved in carpentry and woodworking. He is preceded in death by brothers Cecil, Otis and John Barrett.

He is survived by his his wife Doris B. Barrett of Geneseo who he married in 1948, a son: Robert Barrett of Morrison, CO., 2 daughters: Betty (Larry) Ressue of Newark and Susan (James) Elkins of Alpharetta, GA., 7 grandchildren: Jennifer Foster, Rachael Franklin, Robert A. Barrett, Karen and David Ressue, Andrew and Katie Elkins, along with 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

William E. Hastings III

William E. Hastings III, 52 of Batavia, died June 12, 2012 at 400 Towers in Batavia as result of an accidental fall. He was born January 26, 1960 in Dansville, to the late William E. Hastings II and Helga Treike of Brockport. Mr. Hastings formerly worked at Wal-Mart in Batavia.  He was a member AA, who loved art, playing his guitar and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife Lynn (Kujawski) Hasting of Batavia; step-daughter Katie (Thomas) Wolcott of Batavia; step-mother Marcia Hastings of Dansville; brother Kurt (Komiko) Hastings of VA; sister Heidi Tobias of Wayland; two grandchildren Joseph and Khloe Wolcott of Batavia; along with several nieces and nephews.

Cheryl J. Spencer

Cheryl Spencer, 58, of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Friday (June 8, 2012) at Crossroads House after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Pennsylvania on January 7, 1954, a daughter of the late Karol and Shirley Baker.

Surviving is her friend, Rita Filowik of Batavia.

CAROL M. RUPP

Batavia - Carol M. Rupp, 47, of Batavia, passed away Friday (June 8, 2012) at United Memorial Medical Center.

Carol was born January 13, 1965 in Auburn, NY, a daughter of the late Patrick Creegan and Joan (Siple) Creegan Glatz. She was a dedicated LPN and worked for Genesee Orthopedics in Batavia.  For Carol, her family was her life and she loved spending time with them. Any event that her children were involved it wether is was karate or the race track, was a time for her to call everyone in the family to join in on the fun. She also enjoyed gardening.

Carol is survived by her beloved husband, Jeff Rupp of Batavia; her precious children; Kyle, Billy, Rebecca and Alton, all at home; step-son Sam Rupp of Detroit, MI and Amanda Rupp of Birmingham, AL; one brother Kelly (Donna) Creegan of Elba; two sister, Linda (Bruce) Mizro of Auburn and Patricia (Mark) McCullough of Rochester. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends and family may call Wednesday 4-8 p.m. at the C. B. Beach & Son Mortuary, Inc., 4-6 Main Street, Corfu where services will follow at 8 p.m.

Carrie Piazza

Carrie Piazza, 93, of LeRoy formerly of Batavia died peacefully on June 10, 2012 at LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home. She was born January 15, 1919 in Batavia to  the late Benjamin (Rosena Muscarella) Bonarigo. Carrie was a member of Ascension Parish-St. Anthony’s Church. She is preceded in death by her husband Felix Piazza, brothers Joseph, Benjamin Jr. and John Bonarigo and sister Josephine Tabone.

She is survived by her sons Ronald (Dolly) Piazza of LeRoy; Bill (Dawn) Lachnicht of GA, sister Mary Lullo of Texas; sisters in law Mary Bonarigo, Carolyn Piazza, Laura Bonarigo all of Batavia. 5 Grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren survive along with many nieces and nephews.  

Calling hours and Funeral Services will be held privately. Interment will take place at St. Francis Cemetery in LeRoy.

JEFFERY L. WHEELER

Age 48, of Batavia, died Friday June 8, 2012. He was born June 13, 1963 in PA, son of the late William & Sandra Wheeler.

     Jeff was a former on-site manager for System Freight out of New Jersey. He had a great passion for the game of golf and enjoyed fishing.

     He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Sharon (Arnold) Wheeler of Batavia, his mother-in-law, sister-in-law, extended family along with many dear friends.

MICHAEL R. SEYFRIED

Age 66, of Batavia, died unexpectedly Thursday June 7, 2012 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. He was born Febraury 26, 1946 in Buffalo, son of the late Florian B. & Catherine (Gerwitz) Seyfried and also preceded in death by his brother James.

Michael was a graduate of SUNY Geneseo and went on to teach science for over 30 years at Pembroke Central School. He was an actice member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where he served on the school board, as an Elder and with the ER sIngers. Mike was a past board member of Genesee County Habitat for Humanity, enjoyed golf, traveling and had a passion for the outdoors and its beauty. He will be remembered for his strong faith and his love of family friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years Sandra (Smith) Seyfried of Batavia; beloved son David (Carolyn Keszczyk) of King of Prussia, PA who in October will welcome their daughter Olivia; beloved daughter Kathryn (William) Lockhart of Norwalk, CT and their son Buzz; brother John Seyfried of Rochester; sister-in-law Nancy Seyfried of Phelps, NY along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Family and friends may visit from 1-4 PM Tuesday June 12 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church 31 Washington Ave. Batavia, New York where a Celebration of Michael's Life will take place at 4:00 PM. Antonio Callari

Antonio Callari, 90 of Batavia died, June 8, 2012 at the Batavia Nursing Home. He was born January 2, 1922 in Geraci Siculo, Italy to the late Jack (Domenica Scancarella) Callari. Mr. Callari served in the Italian Army during WWII. He was a member of Ascension Parish-St. Anthony’s Church in Batavia for many years. Mr. Callari is preceded in death by siblings Dominic, Frank, Joseph, Frances Callari.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years Maria (Sanfilippo) Callari of Batavia; sister Maria Callari of Sicily, along with several nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior calling hours. 9:30 AM prayers will be recited at the Funeral Home followed by a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial on Monday June 11, 2012 at Ascension Parish-St. Anthony’s Church 122 Liberty St. Batavia, New York 14020. Entombment will take place in St. Joseph’s Mausoleum, Batavia.

Arnold B. "Jay" Caskinette

Arnold B. “Jay” Caskinette, 42 of East Pembroke died June 6, 2012 at United Memorial Medical Center. He was born January 6, 1970 in Norfolk, VA to the late Arnold (Doris White) Caskinette. He was a member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish. Jay loved sports and spending time with his family.     

He is survived by his beloved wife Jamee E. (Gion) Caskinette, two sons Joseph A. and Jacob P. Caskinette all of East Pembroke; one step brother and two step sisters; along with many nieces and nephews.

Maude Ella Wilder

Maude Ella Wilder, 85, of Batavia, died Monday (June 4, 2012) at her residence.

She was born in Batavia on July 19, 1926, a daughter of the late Harley and Florence Colby Bort.

She was a fifty year member of the Eastern Star and a member of the Olive Branch Chapter 509 in LeRoy and member and Past Maron of the Hesperus Chapter 823 of Bergen.

She enjoyed playing Domino's and  other games, quilting and sewing and making porcelain dolls and ceramic figures.  She was an baseball fan and held  season tickets for the Batavia Muckdogs baseball games.

Surviving is her husband of 61 years, Horace H. Wilder whom she married on May 2, 1951.  Daughters, Cheryl (Thomas) Hance of Willoughby Hills, OH and Nancy (Barney) Mitchell of Batavia.  Six grandchildren: Frederick (Lisa) Hance, David Hance, Jeffrey (Shannon) Hance, Michael (Gina) Wilder, Melissa (Lorne) Kurtz and Samantha Mitchell. Seven great grandchildren: Thomas, Dustin, Travis and Riley Hance, Victoria and Kalifornia Kurtz and Brandon Wilder.  Daughter in law, Kathy Wilder of Sacramento, CA.  She was the mother of the late Charles Wilder who died on September 14, 2011.

Vera G. Bowles

Vera G. Bowles, 89 of Warsaw formerly of Perry died, June 2, 2012 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw. She was born in Mt. Morris, on January 27, 1923 to the late Stanford (Melva Bates) VanDorn. She was a graduate of Nunda Central School. She worked as a secretary for Letchworth State Park, Letchworth Central School, and retired from Iroquois Central School School in 1978. She was a 54 year member of the United Church of Christ in Castile, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw, the YMCA, and Silver and Gold Club in Castile. and was a member of the former Monday Club. She was an avid NY Yankees fan, she enjoyed doing needlework, oil painting, and loved to travel. She is preceded in death by two husbands Ralph S. Gibson who died in 1977 and Richard I. Bowles who died in 1999.

She is survived by 2 daughters: Geralyn L. (Edwin) Law of Perry, Catherine J. (Raymond) Gorecki of Lancaster, 2 Sons: Robert S. (Marguerite Moore) Gibson of Varysburg, Brian D. (Judy) Gibson of Livonia, 2 stepchildren: H. Michael (Peggy) Bowles of Maine, NY,  Lisa (Michael) Doyle of Chenango Forks, NY, 1 sister: Norma (Donald) Gibson of Honeoye Falls, 6 grandchildren: Nathan, Benjamin (Kim) , Sally, Amanda, Jessica, and Alex Gibson along with many nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior calling hours. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday June 7th at the United Church of Christ in Castile at 11:00 A.M. Interment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in Nunda.

Edna M. Bater

Edna M. Bater, 92, of LeRoy and formerly of Byron, died Friday morning (June 1, 2012) at LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home.

She was born in Elba, NY on August 15, 1919, to the late Elmer and Myra Salisbury Mills.

Edna was a housewife who along with her husband operated the family farm in Byron.  She was known for her good cooking and enjoyed caring for flowers.  Edna was also a member of the Morganville United Church of Christ.

She was the wife of the late Leon R. Bater, who died in 1998.

Survivors include two brothers, Elmer Mills, Jr. of Byron, Richard (Joan) Mills of LeRoy and several nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Ruth Eick and Marguerite Dibble.

Family and friends may attend a funeral service on Tuesday, 11am at the J. LEONARD MCANDREW FUNERAL HOME, LLC, 2 Bogue Ave., Batavia.  Interment will follow in Stafford Rural Cemetery.

Carol E. (Slocum) Bell

Carol was born in Perry on September 23, 1925 a daughter of the late Earl and Estelle Miller Houghton. She worked for the former Roberts Rexall Drug Store in Perry for 37 years and then retired from the Sinclair Pharmacy in Warsaw. She was also very involved in the family farm. She was a former member of the Perry Chamber of Commerce,and enjoyed canning and crocheting. She is preceded in death by her first husband Harlan S. Slocum, sister Marie Wagner, brothers Donald and Robert Houghton.

She is survived by her second husband Willard Bell, 4 daughters: Lois (Steven) Spollio of Edgewater, Fla., Jane (Keith Chase) Slocum of Avoca, NY, Lucy (Mark) Poydock of Lexington, NC, and Diane (Douglas) Moses of Yorkshire, NY, 4 step-children: Richard Bell of Perry, David (Dianne) Bell of Beaver Dam, WI, Gerald (Marcia) Bell of Perry, and Diane (Mike) Dee of Colorado Springs, CO., 16 Grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews also survive.
