Cause of the Baskin Livestock fire not yet determined
There isn't much new to report from the overnight fire at Baskin Livestock in Bethany. I was out to the property this afternoon and firefighters were on scene dealing with hotspots and flare-ups.

A fully involved barn fire "with lots of smoke" is reported in Pavilion at the Schumacher's Kelkenberg's barn, thought to be located at 11338 11304 Starr Road. The location is between River and Hudson roads.

Porch fire reported at residence on Gilhooly Road, Alexander
A porch fire is reported at 4225 Gilhooly Road, Alexander.
All occupants are out of the house.
Initial response, Alexnder fire and Town of Batavia fire. An additional response requested from the City's Fast Team, Bethany, Darien and East Pembroke.

House on Gilhooly Road a total loss from fire
What may have started as a porch fire early Monday morning at 4225 Gilhooly Road, and was dispatched as a porch fire, turned out to be a fully involved house fire, said Alexander Fire Chief Marshall Merle.

Law and Order: Man accused of stealing electric shopping cart from Walmart
Kyle Jackson, 21, of Slusser Road, Batavia, is charged with grand larceny, 4th. Jackson allegedly drove an electric shopping cart across the Walmart parking lot, onto Route 63 and into the parking lot of Rite Aid at 4:30 a.m., June 12.

A trailer fire is reported at 7660 Telephone Road, Pavilion, well off the roadway. A propane tank is near the trailer. Pavilion Fire Department is responding and mutual aid from Le Roy is requested. It started after a pile of leaves was ignited.

Environmental professor weighs in on Genesee County's 'most intense' drought conditions
With so much talk about global warming and climate change, that would seem to be the likely culprit for drought so extreme it has dried up dozens of wells in pockets of Genesee County.
However, Stephen Shaw, associate professor for environmental resources engineering at the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, says it might be much more random than that.
Shaw has just completed a 20-year analysis and a report about dry wells across the entire northeast. He found that a drought in 2016 was “pretty intense,” especially across Western New York and Buffalo in particular. That didn’t match what these towns — the volume of households — in Genesee County have experienced, he said.
