Man putting flyers on cars looks suspicious to caller outside Marshalls

A caller outside Marshalls in Towne Center at Batavia reports a white male in blue jeans, a grey, button-down shirt, safari hat, and with his face fully covered is walking around putting flyers on cars and "looking suspicious." 

The caller wishes to speak with a patrol officer.

Dog in Silverado at BJ's plaza barking

An animal control officer is responding to BJ's Wholesale Club parking lot for a report of a dogged locked inside a gray Chevy Silverado. The engine is running; the window is cracked; the dog is barking. It's about 80 degrees outside today.

UPDATE 12:04 p.m.: The caller reports the driver of the Silverado is leaving and a license plate was provided. The officer says she will call the complainant.

Caller reports a half dozen people trying to get into vehicles in Aldi parking lot

A caller reports about six people -- males and females -- are trying to gain access to vehicles in the Aldi parking lot. City police just arrived on scene. The caller said they were trying to use coat hangers and other implements. They were trying to get into a Prius and had attempted to get into a Lexus, the caller said.

Person reportedly shot, now in lobby of Days Inn, Batavia

A person has been possibly shot in the chest at 200 Oak St., the Days Inn in Batavia. Mercy Flight out of Batavia is on a ground standby. Batavia police and Mercy medics are responding. The victim is reportedly in the lobby of the hotel.

UPDATE 9:40 p.m.: Mercy medics communicate they will transport the victim to the Mercy Flight hangar and the helicopter will transport from there.

UPDATE 9:48 p.m.: The victim is a 22-year-old male, shot in the left side of the chest with a 22-caliber firearm.

UPDATE 10:11 p.m.: The victim is being taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, whether by ambulance or Mercy Flight is not clear.

UPDATE 10:36 pm.: City fire Engine #11 has arrived on scene; why is not clear. The person suspected of shooting the victim remains at large.

UPDATE 10:44 p.m.: Police believe the suspect is still in the vicinity. Lights in the hotel parking lots and the former Bob Evans Restaurant, have been shut off.

UPDATE 11:30 p.m. (by Howard): Chief Shawn Heubusch briefed the media. Police believe the victim and suspect know each other and that the shooting involved something between the two individuals. While the suspect is still at large, police have identified a person of interest and a related vehicle. Heubusch indicated investigators are confident enough in the information that they are not releasing further descriptive information. The victim was conscious and alert at the time of transport by Mercy Flight, from the airport to Strong Memorial Hospital. Heubusch said he was shot "in the area" of the Days Inn and walked into the lobby and a person there called 9-1-1. Heubusch said the investigators do not believe the suspect is a threat to the general public.

UPDATE 7:13 a.m.: Chief Heubusch reports the suspect is in custody as of 3:45 a.m. More information will be released later this morning.

Woman at BJ's says man on motorcycle punched her

A female caller to dispatch reports she was punched by a male motorcyclist in the parking lot of BJ's Wholesale Club. The male took off, unknown direction of travel. She's waiting in a parking lot of a nearby business to talk to a State trooper.

Four juvenile males reported unable to get out of Indian Falls, rescuers dispatched

A caller to dispatch reports four male juveniles are in the falls behind Indian Falls Log Cabin Restaurant. One appears to be having some difficulty, but none are said to be "distressed." However, none appear to be able to reach an embankment and hoist themselves out of the water.

Pembroke and Indian Falls fire departments are responding along with Mercy medics and the city's Water Rescue Team #14.

UPDATE 3:45 p.m.: There were three young males in the water, not four, when rescuers arrived on scene. They were each given a life jacket and a rope was deployed. Now there are two out of the water and two remain in the water.

UPDATE 3:48 p.m.: Pembroke command tells first responders to assemble at the far eastern side of the parking lot. And the Rope Rescue Team is also called to stand by at the county Emergency Management Office.

UPDATE 3:50 p.m.: All four males are out of the water and on shore now. Three are fine; one will need medical attention.

UPDATE 3:52 p.m.: The rescue teams are cancelled.

UPDATE 4:16 p.m.: The assignment is back in service.

Little red riding mower spotted on a city street

A red lawn mower riding in the roadway somewhere near Richmond Avenue was spotted by Batavia police and an officer is out with the operator now. The operator purportedly has an ID card, but no driver's license.

UPDATE: The operator is riding a Dyno-Mart 12 horsepower riding mower.

Possible minor hand injury reported after car vs. pedestrian accident on Dellinger Avenue

A car vs. pedestrian accident with what is believed to be a minor hand injury to a young male is reported in the area of 38 Dellinger Ave. in the city. City fire and Mercy medics are responding. The location is between Washington Avenue and West Main Street. A box truck involved is reported to be in Tops Plaza on Lewiston Road and city PD is responding there.
