Tennis: Lancers up on Bees 3-1

The Elba Lancers led the Byron-Bergen Bees 3-1 in tennis on Thursday.  

Jason Rowe lost in a three-set match to Riley Shallenburger after winning a first set tiebreaker, 7-5, followed by scores of 3-6, 3-6.  Alexa Ocampo won her match at second singles against Erron Kimble with a first-set score of 7-5, followed by a 3-6 second set and a 6-3 third set.  At third singles, Clara Torrey also won her match for the Lancers with a 6-0, 6-3 lead over Levi McGrath.  The Lancers' first doubles team of Alex Mendoza and Grace Koch beat Sara Bishop and Justin Gabehart 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 to round out the final win for Elba.  

The second doubles match could not be completed and ended with the Lancers trailing by one game at a score of 3-4.

Tennis: Elba beats Holley 5-0

At their final "home" match of the season at GCC, the Elba Lancers pulled a 5-0 victory over the Holley Hawks on Wednesday.  

Jason Rowe and Clara Torrey had 6-0, 6-0 wins against Arthur Boggs and Aidyn Feiock at first and third singles, respectively.  

At second singles against Josmar Hernandez, Alexa Ocampo pulled through a 10-point third-set tiebreaker 11-9 after a 4-6 loss in the first set and a 6-1 comeback in the second.  

The Lancers' doubles teams also led successful matches, with Alex Mendoza and Grace Koch beating Carissa Klossner and Kai Kennedy after a score of 4-6, 6,0, and 10-4 in a third-set tiebreaker.  

Amy Garcia and Lucy Torrey finished up at second doubles with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Brooke Waldron and Payton Preston.

Tennis: Notre Dame beats Byron-Bergen, 4-1

Tennis: Elba aces Alexander in five matches

The Elba Lancers pulled a 5-0 victory against the Alexander Trojans at Genesee Community College on Wednesday.  

  • Jason Rowe beat Kendrick Ochoa 6-1, 6-1 at first singles. 
  • Alexa Ocampo beat Adam Dolph 6-3, 6-2 in the second singles position. 
  • At third singles, Clara Torrey beat Simon Fuller 6-2, 6-3. 
  • Grace Koch and Alex Mendoza scored 6-0, 6-0 against Ella Bodnarskyj and Carli Koch at first doubles.
  • Lucy Torrey and Amy Garcia rounded out the fifth and final win for the Lancers after a first-set comeback and final score of 6-4, 6-2.

Batavia tennis lost to Rush-Henrietta 5-2 on Thursday. 

Winning for Batavia were Talyn Kennedy at 2nd singles, along with Aiden Reimer and Will Fulton at first doubles.  

Batavia drops to 6-3 on the season.

Byron-Bergen beat Attica in tennis on Thursday, 4-1.

The Bees are now 1-1, and Attica is 0-2.

Tennis: Lancers beat Dragons 3-2

The Elba Lancers won their match against the Pembroke Dragons with a score of 3-2.  

The first singles match went to DJ Hale of Pembroke after a withdrawal from Elba.  

At second singles, Alexa Ocampo beat Angel Neureuter 6-4, 6-1 for the Lancers.  

At third singles, Clara Torrey also secured a win for the Lancers with a score of 6-1, 6-1 over Camden Schneider.  

At first doubles, Logan Manne and Tyler Koepf of Pembroke beat Grace Koch and Alex Mendoza 6-0, 6-1, but the Lancers secured the team victory at second doubles with Amy Garcia and Lucy Torrey.  They came out on top in a close match against Danielle Mast and Paul Tebor after winning a first-set tiebreaker 7-5, followed by a 6-4 second set.    

Girls Tennis: Batavia loses to Hilton 4-3

Batavia girls tennis lost to Hilton by a score of 4-3.  Notable wins for Batavia include Kelsey Kirkwood who had a long three set match coming back to win the third set 6-2 decidedly.  Rahmeto Reinhardt and Drew Stevens also represented well, winning at first doubles against a talented Hilton team.  This was a very competitive match vs. Hilton all around, and I'm proud of the girls for battling.

Batavia Girls Tennis gets heated up in final match to get a win in Brockport

It was the battle of the Blue Devils as Batavia took on Brockport late Thursday afternoon in Monroe County tennis action in Brockport. 

Batavia took all three singles matches and the first doubles contest to improve to 3-1 on the season. The deciding point came down to the third singles match as Batavia’s Eliana Cossitt won in three sets. 

After winning the first set 6-1, Cossitt lost in a second set tiebreak 4-7 to set up a thrilling third set. After falling behind 0-2 to Brockport’s Alex Salcido, Cossitt took control and gave Batavia the point they needed with a brilliant 6-3, third set victory.  

Batavia got wins from first singles player Kelsey Kirkwood 6-1, 6-3 and second singles player Ally Debo, who was equally impressive with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph. 

The first doubles tandem of Drew Stevens and Rahmeto Reinhardt remained unbeaten on the season, with a 6-3, 6-2 win. Batavia will hit the road again Friday at Penfield.

Lancers pick up tennis win over Attica, 3-2

The Elba Lancers won their match against the Attica Blue Devils with a score of 3-2.  

For the Blue Devils, Kathryn Metzger beat Jason Row 7-5, 6-4 at first singles. Joaren Anetrini beat Alexa Ocampo 6-4, followed by a tiebreaker score of 7-3 to take the match to second singles for the Blue Devils.  

The Lancers, however, took the remaining three matches. Clara Torrey won in third singles with a score of 6-0, 6-1 over Joseph Tarapacki.  

At first doubles, Abrahaam Izucar Hernandez and Alex Mendoza defeated Ruby Baratta and Ellie Gominiak 6-4, 6-1. 

In second doubles, Amy Garcia-Vasquez and Lucy Torrey won 6-0, 6-2 over Brooke Luck and Juliana Keicher.

The Elba Lancers won their match against the Holley Hawks on Friday afternoon by a score of 4-1.  Cavin Bennage won the 1st singles match for the Hawks at 6-2, 6-1 against Jason Rowe, but the Lancers took the remaining matches.  Alexa Ocampo beat Kai Kennedy 6-2, 6-0 at 2nd singles.  Clara Torrey beat Josmar Hernandez 6-0, 6-0 at 3rd singles.  Abraham Izucar Hernandez and Alex Mendoza beat Carissa Klossner and Brooke Waldron 6-2, 6-0 at 1st doubles.  At 2nd doubles, Amy Garcia-Vasquez and Lucy Torrey took the fourth match for the Lancers with a score of 6-3, 6-3 against Nico VanLoyten and Sheelsy Gonzalez.

Lancers beat Bees in tennis

The Elba Lancers came out on top over the Byron-Bergen Bees on Friday afternoon.  

Jason Rowe pulled in a match for Elba after a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Megan Zwerka-Snyder at 1st singles. 

For the Bees, Riley Shallenberger beat Alexa Ocampo 2-6, 1-6 at 2nd singles. At 3rd singles, Clara Torrey of Elba defeated James Heick 6-2, 6-0.  

Abrahaam Izucar and Alex Mendoza fell 1-6, 4-6 against Byron-Bergen's Erron Kimble and Josiah Hiscutt in 1st doubles, but Elba's 2nd doubles team of Amy Garcia-Vasquez and Lucy Torrey put the Lancers on top. They won 6-3, 6-3 against Erron Kimble and Josiah Hiscutt and led the Lancers to a 3-2 victory.

O-A boys drop tennis final to Cal-Mum

The Oakfield-Alabama Boys Tennis team was invincible until it wasn't.

The Hornets finish the season at 15-1 after droppingthe Class B3 Section V final to Cal-Mum 3-2.

Thursday's Games: 

  • Preston Tobolski over Lorenzo Martelle 6-2, 6-1
  • Mason Cadieux lost to Nate Doll 3-6, 4-6
  • Randy McIntire lost to Oliver Johnson 5-7 (7-3) 6-0, 6-0
  • Carson Warner/Trevor Enes lost to Garrett Thompson/Jeremiah Anderson 6-2, 6-3
  • Tyler Jirovec/Colton Yasses over Michael Gere/Max Poray 4-6, 6-3, 6-2

This was a great final," said Coach David Carpino. "I'm extremely proud of our team. They are a great bunch of kids, and they had a great season.  I will miss them!"

Hornets advance to finals in Boys Tennis

Oakfield-Alabama beat Kendall in the Class B3 tennis semifinal on Wednesday, 4-1.

The Hornets are the #1 seed in the bracket and play Cal-Mum for the championship today at Batavia High School at 4 p.m.

Batavia defeats Brockport 6-1 in Boys Tennis

Batavia picked up their second win of the season in Boys Tennis with a 6-1 victory over Brockport on Thursday.

The deciding match for Batavia's victory was Andrew Beal and Ethan Bradley at first doubles. Beal and Bradley won 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) and took the pressure off the remaining singles matches.  Batavia is now 2-2.

  • Orion Lama defeated Jason Kleehammer, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (10-5)
  • Jack Pickard lost to Alex Kuhn, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2
