LeRoy ~ Mary G. DeMarco, age 64, of West Main Street, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday (May 2, 2021) at the Premier Genesee Center in Batavia.

    

 She was born January 12, 1957 in Rochester, a daughter of the late Harriett VanDerMark Buckley and Walter Buckley.

     Mary will be remembered as a loving sister, aunt and dear friend, who was virtually a second mother to all her nieces and nephews.  Love for family was great.  Mary was a member of the Living Waters Church and attended a weekly Bible study group. 

     She is survived by her sisters, Ella Bucherio, Donna (Glen) Gilbert, Judy (Burton) Adams and Barbara (Thomas) Rowe; brother-in-law, Ernie Baker, along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

     In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her sister, Linda Baker and brother-in-law, Phil Bucherio.

     Family and friends may call on Wednesday, May 12 from 5 ~ 7 PM at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake Rd. (Rt. 19), LeRoy.  Services and interment in Mumford Rural Cemetery will be private.

Batavia – George B. Van Nest, age 81, passed away on Sunday, May 2, 2021 under the care of his family and HomeCare & Hospice.

George was born November 4, 1939, in Trenton, New Jersey to the late David S. and Alice (Bitner) Van Nest.  He was also preceded in death by an older brother, David F. Van Nest.

George served in the United States Navy out of Mayport, Florida.   He served primarily on the USS Shangri-La (CV-38) as a jet mechanic and plane captain. He served during the US Naval blockade of Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He later worked for Mettler Instrument Company for over 30 years. This job brought him to Batavia.  He worked on intricate scales used in hospitals and quality control laboratories as a service technician, later becoming a regional service manager.  When he retired from that position, he worked for the City of Batavia for 10 years in the Bureau of Water and Waste Water.

Spending time with family and friends was special to him.  George enjoyed camping in his vintage Winnebago motor home and enjoyed staying at the Thousand Islands and Letchworth State Park with his family and friends for many years.   He camped with the Winnebago at Watkins Glen International to share the race with his son and members of the family.  He loved being outdoors and working on his classic vehicles.  He rode his Harley motorcycle for many years and had fun with the people he met at Stan's Harley Davidson.  His choice of transportation and fun for many years was his bicycle.  He especially loved riding it at the Jersey Shore on Long Beach Island for other family vacations and for doing a road clean-up frequently on the highway where he lived.   

George was friendly, and always willing to serve however possible.  He was continually "fixing things" and loved the challenge of a repair job and often was the first to offer assistance.  He was a long time member of the BPOE Elks Lodge in Batavia; the Genesee County Chapter of (HOG) Harley Owners Group and the YMCA.  For many years he served the Lord at St. Paul Lutheran Church in several roles including usher and communion assistant. 

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth “Betty” (Stilwell) Van Nest and their two loving children and spouses:  George S. (Veronica) Van Nest of Clarence, NY and Betsey (Christopher) Reigle of Hilton, NY  and their four grandchildren: Alison E. Reigle, Laura A. Reigle; Jordan E. Van Nest and Tyler N. Van Nest. He is also survived by one brother, Kenneth J. (Janet) Van Nest of Trenton, NJ; and one brother-in-law, Nicholas Stilwell of Trenton, NJ and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours and services have been postponed and will be announced at a future date. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Grand View Cemetery, Batavia. The announcement of a loved one’s passing is never something one wants to do.  So, it is with great sadness, and yet also joy that she is now at rest, that Margaret Jean Price (Jean), our mother, grandmother, aunt, passed into the hands of Our Lord on April 22, 2021 at age 95.  She spent her last days at Crossroads House, in Batavia, New York, where she had volunteered for 18 years.

She was born on October 31, 1925, in Detroit, Michigan to Charles A. and Isabelle R. Jackson.  Jean knew she wanted to be an Occupational Therapy while quite young, and went to Cass Technical High School for Occupational Therapy in the early 1940’s in Detroit, Michigan.  She continued to Michigan State Normal College (now Eastern Michigan University) and became one of the earliest OT’s in the country.  She met her future husband, Arthur Burke Price, at Youth Fellowship, and they married September 7, 1948, at the Chapel of Martha and Mary, built by Henry Ford, in Willow Run, Michigan.

Jean and Arthur moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana, where Arthur taught electrical engineering at Indiana Institute of Technology.  They had 6 children before moving to Byron, New York in 1967: Margaret Jean, Charles Arthur, David Lee, Dale Robert, Kenneth Allen and John Burke.

Jean and Arthur were avid boaters, and belonged to the Oak Orchard Yacht club on Lake Ontario.  They were very active in the leadership of the club, helping to build it when it moved to a new location. Jean was the first female officer and was an honorary member until her passing.  Boating was something that our family did not do, but lived.  We lived on our boat, from Easter to Halloween, some years.  Jean and Art would take their children on trips around Lake Ontario, the Thousand Islands, or “up” the Rideau waterway. 

Jean loved to travel and she would take her family on a trip every summer. These were memorable and a wonderful way for her children and grandchildren to be together, while living many states apart during the rest of the year.  She took us to the Middle East, Scotland, Canada, California, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Arkansas, and many more places.  They were all places she had been to and wanted to share, or places she always wanted to see.  What a wonderful legacy to leave her family.

Jean worked at many hospitals and nursing homes as an Occupational Therapist.  She last worked at the VA Medical Center in Batavia, New York.

After retiring (at age 70), she started volunteering at Crossroads House, a comfort home for the dying.  She volunteered there for 18 years, before “retiring” from there at age 92!  She was very proud of this facility and its caring, loving staff and volunteers.  She cared for residents who were in their last days, and the families that came and went.  Duties could include changing beds, feeding residents, vacuuming or washing dishes.  But they also included caring for family members, cooking for them, praying with them, laughing with them.  Jean spent her last days there herself, and her family, who always knew what a wonderful place Crossroads House is, discovered that they had previously known little of how much love and care Crossroads provides.

Jean was a caregiver for her entire life, caring for her younger twin, her children and husband, her patients and anyone else who needed it.  She was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church in Elba, New York, where she had served as a Sunday school teacher, Elder and Memorial Secretary.

She was a very talented lady, having skills and talents which included woodworking, needle arts, drawing and painting, and gardening.  She enjoyed fixing things and was quite proud when able to “jury rig” something so that something which was not working, now worked.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur (1979), and her sons, Dale (1957), David (2000) and Charles (2015).  Siblings Isabelle Susan (late Percival) Flotte, George A. (late Beth) Jackson, and twin brother, James Jackson.

Jean is survived by her daughter Margaret (late Robert) Hayes, daughter-in-law Katherine (late David), and sons Kenneth (Ann) Price, John (Kari Simonetti) Price. She has 8 beloved grandchildren, Robert Hayes, Krystyna (Dan) Paradise, Ada Price, Heather Price, Christopher Price, Kip Price (Heather), Nata Price and Callum Price, and many nieces and nephews.  Jean also has a surviving sister-in-law, Barbara (late Don) Price.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at 2 p.m. at The First Presbyterian Church of Elba, 23 North Main Street, Elba. Elba - David A. Clark, 75 of Elba met the Lord on Wednesday, (May 5, 2021) at Premier Genesee Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Batavia.

Mr. Clark was born December 1945 in Buffalo, a son of the late Melvin and Elizabeth (Harvey) Clark.

He leaves behind his wife of 42 years Shirley Clark (Burkard), his daughter Evelyn and her husband Nick Pangrazio of Byron, a granddaughter Julia Pangrazio, two grandsons Zachary Keighron and Lucas Stucchio both of Buffalo.

David and Shirley grew up in Tonawanda. While in high school, they dated then went their separate ways, years later they reunited and married in 1978. David was a machinist. He was an Honorable man and loved his family very much. He will be missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest in peace Dave.

LeRoy ~ Kathleen A. Rich, age 68, of Wolcott Street, passed away at home on Sunday (May 2, 2021) in the loving presence of her family.

    

 She was born May 21, 1952 in Batavia, a daughter of Barbara Miggins Brown and the late Howard Brown.

     Kathleen will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and dear friend to many, who was devoted to her family and her faith.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and was a member of the LeRoy Fire Department Auxiliary.

     She is survived by her mother, Barbara Brown; children, Andrew Rich and Melissa (George) Surridge; granddaughter, Kaitlyn VanValkenburg; sister-in-law, Patricia (John Eisenberg) Hopkins, along with many dear friends.  In addition to her father, Howard, she was predeceased by her loving husband, Terry C. Rich in 2018.

     Due to COVID restrictions, family and friends are invited to attend a brief outdoor Service of Remembrance on Saturday, May 15 at 11:30 AM at the Oatka Hose Company, 11 North Avenue, LeRoy.  This will be held rain or shine. (Overflow parking will be at the old Jell-O Factory, 57 North Street, LeRoy)  Interment in St. Francis Cemetery will be private.

Glenn R. “G.R.” McDonald, 73 of Bennington, passed away on Sunday, May 2, 2021 peacefully at his home with his family by his side. He was born on January 25, 1948 in Bennington to the late Glenn H. (Loretta Schmitt) McDonald.

Mr. McDonald worked for 48 years at National Fuel, he was a past member of Bennington Fire Compay and proudly served in the National Guard. He loved horses, was an avid outdoorsman that enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a farmer through and through. Glenn was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.  

He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Margaret A. (Keene) McDonald, children Jonelle (Jayme) Carnahan, Adam McDonald all of Bennington, siblings, Loraine Dunker of Clarence, Marlene McDonald of Fresno, CA, Richard (Donna Mae) McDonald of Bennington, Patricia Pruyn of Buffalo, grandson Dylan along with many nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, 1230 Clinton St. Rd., Attica, NY 14011. He will be laid to rest in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Bennington.

LeRoy -Bonnie A. Beehler, 70, passed away Monday, May 3, 2021 at home surrounded by her loving family.

Bonnie was born November 10, 1950 to the late Richard H. Fee Sr. and Irene Stafford Fee.

Bonnie is the wife of David Beehler Sr. who passed away October 14, 2007, mother of the late David Beehler Jr. who passed away on December 22, 2015, and the sister of the late Linda Ricketts and Richard H. Fee Jr.

Bonnie is survived by her loving daughters, Colleen Sortore of East Bethany, Tonya Lichti and  Jennifer Andrews, both of Leroy. Bonnie was the perfect grandmother to; Brianna Sortore of Batavia, Keegan VanAerman of East Bethany, Kayla Lichti, Tyler and Emma Andrews, all of Leroy, Kodi and Aprile Beehler of Pavilion, her great granddaughter; Mayanasia Long of Batavia: her fur baby “grandpa”; her sister, Susan (Bobby) Sutherland of Georgia, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and special friends. She is also survived by her extended family Jason Raffel and his son Jason Raffel, Jr., Kyle Kotarski, Troy Kolb, Luann Brown, Jennifer Gibney, Shane Andrews, Jennifer Cardinali and her children, Michael Pfendler and Abigail Russell.

To know Bonnie was to love Bonnie. She had the biggest heart and cared and loved for all she came in contact with. She was often referred to as “the strongest woman I know” as she battled a 10 year fight against cancer. She never gave up and continued her fight with the utmost dignity. She wore a smile on her face no matter what challenges she may have been up against.

Bonnie adored and admired her family. She was the definition of a “True Matriarch”. Her kids and grandkids were the light of her life. Bonnie took great pride in family gatherings and holidays. She loved cooking for her family.  She was a doting Gramma and never missed an opportunity to tell each grandchild how proud she was of them and how much she loved each one of them. She loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and she was known for her cheering! A void will forever be in their hearts.

“Our hearts will forever be empty, but you are no longer in pain. You deserve paradise.  Fly high with the angels- Until we meet again-WE LOVE YOU MOST!!”

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the sudden passing of Sandra Jean (MacDonald) Bowles, 67, on April 30, 2021. Sandy, as she was known by her friends and family, was born June 2, 1953 in Batavia, to Loren G. MacDonald and Geraldine (Baker) MacDonald. 

Sandy is survived by her husband and the love of her life for 28 years, Kelly Bowles, her son, Eric MacDonald (Lori) of Lawrence, KS, her daughter Carrie MacDonald (Tim Becker) of Batavia and her grandchildren, Spencer MacDonald (Veronica Pate), Maura MacDonald, Mason MacDonald, Reagan MacDonald, Alora Becker, and Jaylynn Becker, her sisters Joanne MacDonald and Jeanette DeFazio, both of Batavia, Carol Jolicoeur (Roger) of Dallas Texas, and Pearl Ribbeck (Doug) of Tennessee; her sister-in-law, Donna MacDonald of Sarasota, Florida and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her brothers David MacDonald and Loren (Lonnie) MacDonald and her great granddaughter Nadia Lily Pate. 

Sandy, a lifetime Genesee County resident worked for various local Batavia establishments over her career. In each, she developed friendships with her many regular customers.  She always spoke fondly of “her regulars”. If you were one of them, you know who you are. 

What she loved most was spending time with family and friends whether it was playing euchre, cooking big meals to share or just talking, she was a joy to be around, often sparking laughter with her jocular nature. 

What Sandy lived for most was her grandchildren. She was a doting grandmother that never missed the opportunity to let her grandchildren know how much she loved them and how important they were to her.  They thought she made the perfect pancake. And lest we forget her dogs Spike, Emma, and Tanner who will miss her very much.  

She enjoyed shopping and crafting with her sisters and cousins. She took every opportunity to reach out to her loving family all over the country thanks to the means of modern video communications, often prodding them to take care of themselves. 

While her loss leaves a void in the hearts of those that she loved and loved her we will forever cherish the generous and thoughtful spirit that she was.

Stafford ~ Donald E. MacDonald, age 81, of Sweetland Road, passed away unexpectedly at home on April 28, 2021.

   

  He was born September 6, 1939 in Olean, N.Y. , a son of the late Donald C. and Mildred A. Foote MacDonald.

     Don was a part of Faith Community Church in LeRoy, where he regularly attended services and provided assistance with the church upkeep.  He enjoyed reading the Bible, constructing model airplanes and socializing with his friends.  His biggest passion though was working on cars and attending car shows and events.  He was also a member of the Lone Wolf Cruisers.  He was retired from Kodak Film Company in Rochester.  He was a special person with a great sense of humor.

     He will be sadly missed by his daughter, Sherri (Jim) Raab; step-daughter, Deborah Birch; his past wife and close friend, Ann MacDonald; his twin brother, Ronald (Norie) MacDonald of Ceres, PA; sisters, Patricia (Bill) Kinney of Ceres, PA and Carol (Curt) Lewis of West Almond, NY;  brother, Clayton "Jack" MacDonald; along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

     In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Ethyl (Chris) Fitch and Susan (Charles) Snyder.

Oakfield - Mrs. Mary  Lucille  Yunker, age 85 of Oakfield, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 9, 2021 at Buffalo General Hospital following a brief illness.

Mrs. Yunker was born March 25, 1936 in Medina, a daughter of the late Edward John DePalma and Marian Elizabeth Dujenski DePalma.

She worked as a telephone operator and bank teller before becoming a full-time wife and mother, which was her true calling and greatest joy.  She always put her family first.

A member of St. Padre Pio Parish in Oakfield, she was a lover of all animals. She enjoyed feeding the birds, squirrels and cats that would visit her home and took delight in tending to her flowers.  She loved dancing with Richard (especially the polka), and listening to Frank Sinatra and Barbra Streisand.

Surviving are Richard D. Yunker whom she married on October 19, 1963; two daughters, Kathleen (David) Yoder of Corfu and Kristin Yunker of Oakfield; her grandchildren, Matthew and Anna Yoder of Corfu; her brother, Edward "Butch" DePalma of Summerfield, Florida; her sister, Elizabeth (Duane) Quintern of Summerfield, Florida; brother-in-law, Donald (Joyce) Yunker of Oakfield, sisters-in-law, Joan Schrauth of Maryland, Irene Yunker of Batavia and Bonnie Yunker of Florida, and several nieces and nephews.

There are no prior visiting hours. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 10 a.m. at St. Padre Pio Parish, 56 Maple Avenue, Oakfield. Brockport - Carla  L.  Ruggles, age, 56 of Brockport, passed away on Saturday, April 24, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Ruggles was born on July 11, 1964 in Clarkson, a daughter of the late Lincoln F. Harvey and Louise S. Harvey.

A 1982 graduate from Brockport Central School, she was an avid gardener who enjoyed tending to her flowers and vegetable garden. She loved to gather with her family and friends and crafts. Carla liked to listen to live music, sing karaoke, and dance.

She is survived by her sons; Donald Ruggles and Matthew (Jesse Proia) Ruggles, both of Brockport; the father of her children, Donald Ruggles; four grandchildren; Ethan Ruggles, Jake Ruggles, Austin Ruggles and Robert Ruggles; her siblings; Candie L. (Carl) Pocock of Bergen, Lynette M. (Garry Nicholas) Weber of Florida, Philip L. (Sharon) Harvey of Hamlin and Colin P. (Kerstin) Harvey of Florida and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her brother, Alan J. Harvey and her former brother-in-law, Herb Weber.

Alabama - Kathryn Gilbert, 91 of Alabama passed away on Saturday, (May 1, 2021) at Premier Genesee Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Batavia where she had been residing.

Mrs. Gilbert was born August 24, 1929 in Shelby, a daughter of the late Harold and Minnie (Roggow) Meiser.

A devout christian, she was a member of the Alabama-Basom United Methodist Church where she held several leadership positions throughout the years.  Kathryn is a past member of the Alabama Cemetery Committee. She enjoyed going for walks, traveling, flowers, and watching old movies and PBS on television. Mrs. Gilbert was a patriotic woman who loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Kathryn is the wife of  the late Rowland Gilbert who passed away in 1980.

Surviving are her children, Keith (Judy) Gilbert of Alabama, and Melinda (Gordon McConnell) Gilbert of Basom; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Gilbert of Oakfield; grandchildren, Carrie (Frankie, Jr.) Desjardins of Oakfield, Kristina Gilbert of Oakfield, Chad (Sonya Charache) Gilbert of Basom, Candy (Justin) Hill of Oakfield, and Jason Gilbert of Middleport; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Dallas Gilbert, Rylee Hill, and Jamie Gilbert. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

She is preceded in death by a son, Kevin Gilbert; brothers, Lester and Wendell Meiser; sisters, Viola Bentley, Edna Chugg, and Mildred Ross.

Services will be held privately for the family. Kathryn will be laid to rest beside her husband in Alabama Cemetery. Doll (née Clark), 74, of Attica, NY passed away on Thursday April 29, 2021 at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.  JoAnne was born July 12, 1946 in Buffalo as the youngest of four daughters to Eileen Mae Clark (née Stuart) and Edward Holt Clark.  She is preceded in death by her sister Jane (late Jack) Schreiner.  Surviving is her husband of 41 years, Henry E. Doll of Attica, and two sons, Edward Doll of Hamburg, NY, and Robert (Alicia) Doll of Pittsburgh, PA.  JoAnne is also survived by sisters Mary (late Irving) Levin of Issaquah, WA and Judith (late Edward) Griese of Morrisville, grandson Theodore, and many nieces, nephews and friends. 

JoAnne held a degree in Physiotherapy from Ithaca College and spent years caring for patients in New York City, St. Jerome Hospital in Batavia, Genesee County Health Department, local school districts, and private client consultation.  She was an avid reader, traveler, florist by family trade, and pursued hobbies of antiquing, gardening, beekeeping, and raising chickens.  She was a devoted wife and caring mother.  

JoAnne was a longtime resident of Attica where she was active in the Saints Joachim and Anne (formerly St. Vincent de Paul) Roman Catholic Church.  Her faith, work ethic, and love of community were evident in years of service as a member of the church altar rosary society, funeral luncheon committee, and many fundraisers.  Through the years, JoAnne was a volunteer at Genesee-Wyoming Catholic Central School, the Attica Historical Society, the Veterans Administration, and other local charitable activities.  She was a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Mary Jemison Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, Alice Putnam Chapter of the National Society Colonial Dames of the Seventeenth Century, and Red Hat Society.  

Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 from 4 to 7 PM at Marley Funeral Home, 135 Main Street, Attica, NY 14011.  A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 6, 2021 at 11 AM at Saints Joachim and Anne Roman Catholic Church, 50 East Avenue, Attica, NY 14011.  JoAnne will be laid to rest at Brant Cemetery in Brant, NY.

Hugh J. Graff, 61 of Corfu, passed away on April 29, 2021 at Terrace View Long Term Care in Buffalo. He was born on August 26, 1959, known by his family and friends as “Lefty”. He is preceded in death by his loving parents Paul and Beatrice (Brunner) Graff and a brother-in-law Jerry Henry.

Hugh was a hardworking heavy equipment mechanic and would help you out if you needed a hand with your own repairs. He truly enjoyed NASCAR racing and was a faithful Dale Earnhardt fan.

Survivors include his wife Barbara (Bartz) Graff, son Sonny (Laura) Graff, daughters Sherri Wahr and Tanya Mayback. Siblings Paul Graff, Audrey Henry and Connie (David) Rethlake, 7 grandchildren along with nieces and nephews.

A private interment at St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Attica, will take place for the immediate family. There will be a memorial luncheon to follow. Please call the family for details.

Macomb/Zephyrhills - Gerald G Elliott, 73  of Macomb, New York and Zephyrhills, Florida and formerly of Corfu, passed away on December 22, 2020 at Advent Health in Zephyrhills.

Mr. Elliott was born December 1, 1947 in Batavia, a son of the late George and Evadene (Wiltse) Elliott.

He was a 1967 graduate of Pembroke High School. Following high school, he enlisted in the Army, where he served honorably during the Vietnam War. Gerald was a member of the Akron Masonic Lodge, the Shriners, American Legion, VFW, and the Elks Club. He retired in 2010 after 36 years as a heavy equipment operator with County Line Stone.

Mr. Elliott enjoyed landscaping, hunting, fishing, spending time with family and friends, and traveling between Black Lake and Florida.

Surviving are his children, Steven Elliott of Corfu, Michelle Czechowicz of Lockport, and Amanda Elliott of Basom; grandchildren, Bryce, Kristen, Jason, Amarri, Journie, Giara, and Isaiah;  his companion, Pai, of Florida; siblings, Reylene (late George) VanGeldren of Fishkill, Gayle (Dennis) Waldron of Byron, Lee (Bonnie) Schoenthal of Corfu, and Ila Jean (late John) Terry of Hammond. Nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Family and friends are invited to call on May 22, 2021 from 1:00 pm  to 2:00 pm  at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, where a Masonic Service and Memorial Service will immediately follow at 2:00 pm. Gerald will be interred in the Western New York National Cemetery in Corfu at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
