Dustin M. Fleming

Batavia - Dustin M. Fleming, age 34, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at his home.

Dustin was born on January 6, 1988 in Batavia, son of Lisa A. Fleming of Batavia.

Surviving along with his mother are his son, Johnny Fleming; his siblings, Katrina Ewert, Nathan Clark, Christian Alexander and McKiah Alexander; and his cousin, Lynn Betties.

Rocky J. Gringer

Rocky J. Gringer, 75 of Batavia, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, June 13, 2022 at Rochester General Hospital. He was born December 28, 1946 in Batavia to the late Anthony and Catherine (Pricola) Gringer.

Rocky was a proud United States Army Vietnam Veteran. He owned and operated a pizzeria Tip of the Boot with his cousin Gary Puccio in Colorado. Rocky was extremely athletic and enjoyed golf, tennis, skiing, cycling, baseball and going to the gym. Everyone loved his embracing personality.

He is survived by his siblings, Patti (the late Alfred) Panepinto, Josie (James) Lambert both of Batavia, Anthony (Theresa) Gringer of Pittsford, along with many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A 10:00am Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2022 at Ascension Parish, 15 Sumner St, Batavia, NY 14020. He will be laid to rest in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Batavia, with Military Honor’s.

Karen M. Rodon

On June 11, 2022 Karen M. Rodon rejoined Frank, her beloved husband of 45 years, who died in 2012.

Karen was born on July 17, 1945, in Batavia, NY to the late Frances and Daniel Canty.

She graduated from Batavia High School in 1963 and then attended the University of Buffalo. In 1967, she married Frank, her high school sweetheart and they moved to Hawaii where they lived for five years. In Hawaii, she worked for the U.S. Navy and continued her education at the University of Hawaii. Upon her return to Batavia, she began a 36-year career with the Veterans Administration, from which she retired as the Human Resource Manager for the Batavia and Buffalo VA Medical Centers. Following Karen’s retirement in 2004, she and Frank sailed their boat to their new home in Fort Myers, Florida. Karen was the volunteer editor of their community newspaper, volunteered for the Veterans Foundation and delivered Meals on Wheels of Lee County.

She is survived by her brother, James Canty; her sister, Diane Gerould; sister-in-law, Carol (Merle) Banek and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Her brother, Gerald “Red” Canty predeceased her in 2001.

Karen and Frank’s ashes will be interred at St. Joseph’s Mausoleum in Batavia, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Karen’s name to The Michael J. Fox Foundation, P.O. Diane R. Schoff

Diane R. Schoff, 61, of Corfu, passed away on June 9, 2022 at United Memorial Medical Center.

Diane was born January 3, 1961, in Batavia, the daughter of the late Jack and Ruth (Warren) Bromsted.

Diane enjoyed bird watching, playing video games, watching Jeopardy with her son, baking, gardening, cross stitch, reading and sharing books with her grandchildren and spending time with her family.  During the 1990's, while working as the cashier in the cafeteria at Pembroke Primary School, was known as Miss Diane.

Surviving are her husband, Martin Schoff; children, Kelly (Jeromy Korytkowski) Schoff, Garret Schoff and Kyle (Katherine) Schoff; grandchildren, Sienna Korytkowski, Autumn Korytkowski, Lilian Schoff and Noah Schoff; brothers, David (Paula) Bromsted, Daniel (Bonnie) Bromsted and Jack Bromsted; nieces and nephews, Jennifer Bromsted Masse, Brian (Michelle) Bromsted, Becky (Zack) Siembor, Elizabeth (fiancé Dan Tornow) Bromsted; great-nieces and great-nephews, Grace Masse, Jack Masse, Ella Bromsted, Marley Siembor and Josslyn Siembor.

Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, June 20 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia.  Diane's funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21 at Cornerstone Church of East Pembroke, 2583 Main Road, East Pembroke.  She will be laid to rest in Hillside Cemetery in Pembroke.

Sylvia M. Held

Sylvia Held (Smith) of Zephryhills, FL, passed away on May 20th at the age of 93.

Mrs. Held is predeceased by her beloved husband of 65 years, George Held Jr.; siblings Jeanette Bennett, Hugh (Pat), Ross and Royal Smith; and granddaughter Shelsie Walsh.

She is survived by her loving children Keith Sr. (Shirley) Held and Cathleen Bieber; her beloved grandchildren Erin (Danny) Walsh, Keith Jr. and Katelyn Held; and great grandchildren Avery and Beckham Amaral.

There will be no prior calling hours. An 11:30 AM graveside service will be held on Friday, June 17, 2022 at the West Middlebury Cemetery, East Bethany, NY. Where she will be laid to rest with her husband George.

Jeffery M. Schum

Jeffery M. Schum, 64 of Batavia, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, June 12, 2022 at Suzanne’s Comfort Care Home, Inc in Perry. He was born January 8, 1958 in Batavia to the late Maynard Schum and Shirley (Snyder) Schum. He is preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Red and Mici Sawyer.  

Jeff was a dairy farmer, farming was his life and his life was farming. He enjoyed playing Euchre and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Gail A. (Sawyer) Schum of Batavia; siblings, Steven (Rosemary) Schum of Darien, Cheryl (Wayne) Kriger of Attica, Janice Youngers of Attica, sisters and brother-in-law, Marcia Sawyer of FL, Lauren (Mark) Howell of Norwich, NY, Alison (Anthony) Felt of Clifton Park, Randall (Connie) Sawyer of Huntingtown, MD; along with 10 nieces and nephews; 7 great nieces and nephews.

Patricia Jean (Brown) Herman

Patricia J. Herman, 91, of Indian Falls, NY, passed away peacefully, Friday, June 10, 2022.

Pat was born on March 4, 1931, in the family home in Indian Falls, the daughter of the late Gladwin “Bill” and Elizabeth “Betty” (Haas) Sliker. Pat was predeceased by her beloved husband, Richard J. Brown and her devoted husband, Charles A. Herman.

Pat was a dedicated member of the Indian Falls United Methodist Church for 70 years and active in numerous groups at church.  She was a founding member of Indian Falls Campground and picnic area. Pat worked closely with her parents to manage the campground until her father’s passing. She was a member of the East Pembroke Rebekah’s.  Pat was a legal secretary to Sherwin Wittman at his law firm and a longtime bookkeeper for William’s Poultry Farm in Pembroke were many happy memories and lifelong friendships were established.

Pat loved to be creative, taking many classes in flower arranging, stain glass production and cake decorating. She was known far and wide with her family and friends for her delicious and moist cakes. Many in Genesee County and the surrounding area, have had the pleasure of sampling her baking expertise! Pat was very active with her graduating class and childhood friends all through her adult life. She took great pride and loved researching her nuclear and extended family genealogy. Pat had a love of nature, especially keeping the bird population around her home well fed.

Pat never had to register a “change of address” with the United States Postal Service. She lived and loved her entire existence in the beautiful hamlet where her grandparents forged a legacy, finding pure contentment on the hill between her lake and the creek.

Pat is survived by her children; Cindy (Bill) White, Douglas Brown, Darlene (Mark) Bramley and Laurie (Tracy) Rudolph; her step-children; Charles (Lori) Herman, Julie (Pat Marvin) Herman, Richard (Nicole Hornstein) Herman and Betsy (Sander) Abramson; 13 grandchildren and step-grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. Pat is also survived by her cousin, Winnie Murray.

Family and friends may call Friday, June 17, 2022, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the C. B. Beach & Son Mortuary, Inc., 4 East Main Street, Corfu. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 18, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the Indian Falls United Methodist Church, 7908 Allegheny Road, Corfu, NY. Burial will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Corfu. 

Memorials may be made to the church.

KEEGAN J. LACHUT

Keegan J. Lachut, 42 of Corfu, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on Wednesday (June 1, 2022) at his residence.

He was born July 8, 1979 in Dunkirk, NY, a son of Alison Ruckh Penna and the late Charles Lachut.

Keegan was a 1997 graduate of Pine Valley Central School and attended the Universal Technology Institute for Diesel Mechanics.  As part of his career he also received several certifications in safety and waste management. He was a proud member of the International Operators Union Local 17, where he worked for companies such as Anastasi Trucking, Ciminelli, Pinto, West Valley Nuclear and Benchley Cranes.

Some of his career accomplishments was that he ran Buffalo’s first Tower crane during the construction of Buffalo’s Medical Campus, helped in the construction of wind turbines along the Lake Erie water front and was superintendent of WNY’s largest manufacturing building, Solar City. Keegan was also skilled in the plumbing trade which was passed down from his grandfather, to his father and to him.

Keegan and his brother Brent shared a special bond that only brothers could have. They were best friends. Always talking on the phone every morning on the way to work and gaming together at night. Brent will greatly miss his brother as will His wife Aimee who thought of him as a brother.   She too will be lost without him.

Keegans many pastimes include hunting and fishing, camping with his companion and niece and nephew, gaming with his family and friends, singing and playing guitar, playing pool, boating and woodworking. Most of all he loved spending time with his family

Survivors include his mother, Alison (Tom) Penna of S. Dayton, NY. Brother, Brent (Aimee) Lachut of S. Dayton. Aunts and uncles, Lana Austin of S. Dayton,Linda (Skip) Sticek of S. Dayton, Carol Lachut of Arkansas and Andrea Herrington of Virginia. Nieces and Nephews, Wesley Lachut, Chloe Lachut, Cole Lachut, Bella Lachut, Brody Lachut, Kate Lachut and Jeff Bender. Companion, Anna Kennedy. Also survived by many cousins and friends all over WNY.

Predeceased by grandparents, Vern and Millie Ruckh and Edward and Agnes Lachut. Uncles, Ray Austin and Allen Lachut.

Because Keegan was an avid Buffalo Bills fan, the family would like memorials in his name to be made to The Patricia Allen Fund, Benefiting Oishei Children’s Hospital, 818 Ellicott St., Buffalo, NY 14203.

 There will be a Celebration of Life on Sunday June 19th at the Trillium Lodge in Cherry Creek, NY from Noon until 4 pm.

EILEEN M. PRATT

Eileen M. Pratt, 91 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Friday (June 10, 2022) at United Memorial Medical Center.

She was born January 22, 1931 in Coudersport, PA a daughter of the late Coily and Lillian Gray Burgett.

Eileen was employed by Kisiel Die Casting Co. and Tompkins Die Casting Co. in Batavia prior to her retirement.

She was the wife of the late Norman Pratt and sister of the late Clifford Burgett, Harvey Burgett and Evelyn Davis.

Survivors include her children, Norma Bauer of Texas, Patricia Dick of Canandaigua, Bettyjo (David) Gizzi of Hamburg, Sherry Lynn (Andy) Coppi of Texas, Norman (Debbie) Pratt of Darien, Kelley (Scott) Smith of Virginia and Chad Pratt of Oakfield. Also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Helen Freda Malecki

Helen Freda Malecki, 94 of Alden, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 10, 2022 in Alexander, with her family by her side. She was born February 7, 1928 in Buffalo, to the late Arthur and Freda (Mueller) Krege. She is preceded in death by her husband Richard J. Malecki.

Mrs. Malecki worked as a Teacher’s Aid in Buffalo from 1966 to 1985 at School 84 and School 84 Annex. She was a member of NYSLRS, an avid gardener and in the Frohsinn Singing Society of Buffalo.

She is survived by her beloved children, Richard J. (Patricia) Malecki Jr of Tonawanda; Faith (Kevin) Bannister of Bennington; grandchildren, Amy (Derik) Ramirez, Richard J. Malecki III, Christopher (Colleen) Malecki, Erin (Sean) Wilson, Alexander and Lara Bannister; 8 great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

Ellamae Hyland

Ellamae Hyland, of Attica, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2022 peacefully at Wyoming County Skilled Nursing Facility in Warsaw. Ellamae was born on June 29, 1937 in Warsaw to the late May and Walter Evans. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Hyland and two children, Anna Earl and Walter “Skeeter” Blatt.

Ellamae was a lifelong resident of New York and worked in the payroll department for prison systems. Ellamae enjoyed nights out with friends, playing cards and going bowling, but most of all spending time with her family.

She is survived by children, Gloria (John) Carpenter of Elkhart, Indiana, Richard “Rick” Blatt of Attica, Zaundra (Ed) Harris of Elkhart, Indiana, Charles (Debbie) Blatt of Batavia, Terry (Shone) Reed of Tennessee; 14 grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren she loved so much.

Anthony J. Bordonaro

  Anthony J. Bordonaro, of Attica NY, passed away on June 6, 2022 at the age of 94. He was born in Buffalo on August 6, 1927 to the late Bernice (Penisi) and Peter Bordonaro. He is the husband of the late Pauline (Berardi) Bordonaro; Brother of the late Lawrence, Philip, Anna and Marian.

He is survived by his children; Barbara (late Joseph) Sobczak, Kim (Bryan) Gross, Terese (Warren) Haseley and MaryJo (James) Metz; sister Concetta (Roger) Sierk; Grandchildren Joseph (Erin), Kathryn and Andrew Sobczak, Lindsay (TJ) Davis, Kayla (Seth) Grimes, Michael Haseley, Alison (Thomas) Suchy, Joshua (Lauren), Matthew and Peter Metz and Papa to 9 great grandchildren.

Food was a true passion for Anthony; he also enjoyed a day at the track and a good Texas hold’em poker game.

ESTHER M. MOSCICKI

Esther M. Moscicki, 89 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday (June 7, 2022) at Premier Genesee Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation.

She was born December 7, 1932 in Buffalo, NY, a daughter of the late Jan and Mary Bryk Bielawa.

Esther was employed by Chapin Manufacturing prior to her retirement. She was a parishioner of Resurrection Parish for many years. She was also an avid bingo player and enjoyed playing cards with her grandchildren.

She was the wife of the late Edward “Farmer” Moscicki and sister of the late Henry, Joseph, John, Thaddeus and Dolores Bielawa.

Survivors include her sons, Henry (Elyn) Moscicki of Batavia and Dennis (Denise) Moscicki of Alden. Grandchildren, Erik Moscicki, Bryan Moscicki, Jennifer Moscicki, Christa (Avery) Presson, Adeline Moscicki, Grace Judge and Olivia Judge.

Howard LaVerne Austin

Batavia ~ Howard LaVerne Austin, age 70, passed away on June 4, 2022 in the loving presence of his family.

   

 Howard's passions were working on cars.  He had his own Auto Body Shop for years and later worked for K & M Automotive.  He loved auto racing of all kinds.  He raced Micro Sprints at several tracks around the Northeast USA.  He loved teaching his skills and passions of life and racing to his children and grandchildren.  We will always carry his memory in our hearts.

     He will be sadly missed by his wife, Helen L. (Moore) Austin; his children, Jeffrey (Carri) Austin, Michael Austin, Jason (Kimberly) Austin and Kim (Frank) Cuttitta; his grandchildren, Cameron, Ava, Brynn, Abbie, Alli, Liam and Brycen; brothers, David (late Carol) Austin, Harold (late Andrea) Austin and the late Gene (Vicki) Austin; sister, Donna (Norbert) Barber; mother-in-law, Helen Moore; brothers-in-law, Ken (Cheryl) Moore and Jim F. (Penny) Moore Jr., along with several nieces and nephews.

     Howard was predeceased by his parents, Percy M. H. Austin and Dorothy (Hart) Austin Brown and his father-in-law, James F. Moore Sr.

     A Celebration of Howard's Life will be held at a later date.

Jennifer K. Roblee

Jennifer K. Roblee, 47, of Maple Ave., Le Roy, NY, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 7, 2022.

   

  She was born Feb. 14, 1975 in Batavia, NY, a daughter of Elizabeth Powers and Bruce (Mary) Platek.

     Jennifer will be remembered for her courageous battle with cancer and her contagious beautiful laughter and smile. Loving Mother to her daughters, Madison and Presley. Her family and friends were her world.

     Jennifer is survived by her loving husband, Scott, of 22 years; daughters, Madison and Presley; sisters, Maureen (Jeff) Estabrooks, Samantha and Sara Platek, mother-in-law, Sue Roblee and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

     She was predeceased by her father-in-law, Darrell Roblee (2015) and brother-in-law, Jon Roblee (2021).
