LeRoy ~ Helen L. Ladd was born in Glasgow, Scotland on January 27, 1928 and died on July 11, 2019. Helen was born to Christina and John Laughlin, along with siblings Catherine, Christina, Isabelle, and Hugh, who all passed away in Scotland.  Her sister Lynette (Scotty) Graham, who lived in LeRoy as Helen did, passed away January of 2017.

     Helen is survived by her children, Kent (Lori Mcbride) Ladd, who live in So. Carolina, Brock (Kerry Herrington) Ladd, who live in Phoenix, AZ and her daughter,  Leslie (Daniel Johnston) Ladd, who live in Stafford, N.Y. with whom Helen spent her last 3 years.  Her son, Stuart Ladd died in 2010.  Brother-in-law, Donald Ladd also died in 2010, but is survived by his lovely wife, Barbara Ladd, who resides in Mansfield, CT. Brother-in-law, David  Graham, husband of Lynette, resides in LeRoy.  Helen is also survived by her grandchildren, Caroline (Andrew) Costa of Maryland, Rebecca (Stephen) Saeva of Stafford, Jonathan (Katherine) Ladd of So. Carolina and Owen Ladd also of So. Carolina and  8 great- grandchildren, whom she adored.

      Services will be private and interment will be in Machpelah Cemetery.

She was born February 27, 1944 in Batavia, NY, a daughter of the late Albert and Helen Schifla Hamilton.

Jane was a generous, loving, thoughtful, and endlessly kind woman who never stopped moving. Born and raised in Corfu, she met her future husband, Don M. Read, in high school. They married in 1967. An avid athlete, she studied physical education at Cortland State University and earned a bachelor’s degree magna cum laude in 1966. After graduating, Jane began her career as a physical education teacher, and spent more than three decades at Pembroke Primary School. Jane felt a strong dedication to teaching young children how to play and enjoy sports and take these lessons off the field into their daily lives. She developed many innovative approaches that built bridges between the gymnasium and the classroom, stayed up late laboring over report cards, and placed a great emphasis on sportsmanship: A sign in her gym read, “If the game was fun, then everybody won.” 

Jane was an excellent cook and baker, and her thoughtfulness and affection for others often took the form of delicious desserts. Workers who came to Jane’s house never made it a day without being asked about their favorite type of cookie or pie. Jane loved to be outside and took great pride in her large and immaculate yard, riding her lawnmower, tending to colorful flowers and pulling up dandelions, which she hated. Jane was also an active member of Cornerstone Church, serving on the church council and many committees, and often making sure fresh flowers were on hand to brighten the sanctuary. Jane served for seven years as a board member of Genesee Community College, and she was an officer of the Genesee County Women’s Republican Club. Most of all she loved her friends and family. She provided tender care to loved ones during their long illnesses, and delighted in the happiness and accomplishments of her two sons and their families. 

Survivors include her husband, Don M. Read of Corfu. Sons, Brock (Libby Sander) Read of Washington, DC and Spencer (Cory) Read of Irondequoit. Grandson, Nathaniel Read. Brother, Thomas Hamilton of Corfu.

Family and friends may call on Friday, July 19th from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at the C.B. Beach & Son Mortuary, Inc., 4 East Main St., Corfu, NY.  A funeral service will be Saturday, July 20th at 10:00 am at Cornerstone Church of East Pembroke, 2583 Main St., East Pembroke, NY. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Corfu.

Oakfield – Caroline A. Beach, 94, of Oakfield, an assembler at General Motors Corp. in Rochester, died on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at her home while under Homecare and Hospice.

Mrs. Beach was born November 2, 1924 in Oakfield, a daughter of the late Samuel and Mary (Ballon) Halat.

She was a member of St. Padre Pio Parish, St. Cecelia’s Site.

She is survived by her loving husband, Eugene F. Beach, whom she married in 1952; a brother, Leon (Lillian) Halat of Oakfield; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Sandra Mary Beach who passed away on May 21, 1993 and was the sister of the late Alphonso, Ray and Joseph Halat and Irene Cecere.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Ave. in Oakfield where prayers will be recited at 9 a.m. on Thursday.  Caroline’s Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Cecelia’s Site, 56 Maple Ave. in Oakfield. Ron was born October 28, 1932, in Batavia, a son of the late Salvatore and Mary (Miller) DiSalvo. 

A 1950 graduate of Batavia High School, Ron enjoyed his grandchildren, hunting, fishing, golf and tennis.  In 1952, he joined the United States Army and is a Korean War Veteran. 

Ron was a member of the former St. Anthony’s Church, where he was a life member of the St. Anthony’s Holy Name Society and served as the society’s president.   

Ron operated the Army Navy surplus store on Main Street, called the Outdoor Store.  In 1966, he joined the Cultrara’s Shoe Store and would purchase the store in 1973.  In 1975, Ron changed the name of Cultrara’s to DiSalvo Shoe Store.  In August of 1976, DiSalvo’s relocated to the Genesee Country Mall becoming the first store to open in the mall.  Ron would be later joined by his wife and four children at the store.  A branch store was opened in 1982 in Niagara Falls, NY. 

Ron was the president of the Genesee Country Mall Association and the Brooklyn School PTA.  Ron was a life member of the VFW.  He served as the vice president of the City of Batavia PTA Council.  He also served on the board of directors for the YMCA. 

Ron was on the committee as chairman of Group I at St. James Church and was also a neighborhood commissioner with the Boy Scouts of America.

He was very involved with Pop Warner Batavia Youth Football, serving on the board of directors, co-chairman of the league, treasurer and ran the league refreshment stand.   

Ron was a member of St. Nicholas Club, Chamber of Commerce, Batavia Area Jaycees, Loyal Order of Moose, Paolo Busti Cultural Foundation, Community Betterment – Quality of Life in Genesee County, Crimestoppers of Batavia and the YMCA tennis club.

Survivors include his wife, Rose B. DiSalvo of Batavia; children, Michael DiSalvo of Batavia, Kathy (Dan) Reuter of Darien, David (Sandy) DiSalvo of Batavia and Sam (Michele) DiSalvo of Batavia; grandchildren, Stacie (Michael) Anderson, Kellie (Michael) Ottley, James (Christina) Stack, Katie (Scott) Helser, Aren (Lesha) DiSalvo, Valerie (Matthew) Cramer, Jessica DiSalvo, Samuel DiSalvo, Amanda DiSalvo and Sabrina DiSalvo; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Lucy, Olivia, Jacob, Mackenzie, Jeremy, Ethan, Briar, Rowan, Silas and Henry; brothers, Jim (Connie) DiSalvo of Stafford and Sam (late Viola) DiSalvo of Batavia; sisters, Florence (Joe) Condidorio of LeRoy and Kitty (Louie) Severino of Ohio; a brother-in-law, Paul (Marie) Ritter of California and several nieces and nephews.

Jim was a graduate of York Central School. He served with the US Army. He worked for Akzo Nobel Salt Co. in Retsof from 1957-1997 and went to work for the Perry Central School District from 1997 to 2015. He was a member of the Perry VFW Post # 5009 and American Legion McKelton Post #350 in Perry and a former member of the Perry Rotary Club. He enjoyed gardening, cutting fire wood and was a painter who painted many homes in the Perry area. He was an avid Buffalo Bills and NY Yankees fan. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by 3 daughters: Laurie (David) Greig Jr. of Warsaw, Julie Hunt of Ft. Edward, NY, Sandy (Jeff) Hostetler of Warsaw, 5 grandchildren: Rachael Greig, Caitlyn Hunt, David Greig III, Brandon Hunt and Gracie Hostetler, 2 sisters: Louise Fisher of Getzville and Elizabeth (Neil) McColl of Fl., 2 sister-in-laws: Annabelle Wooster of Warsaw, Bettie Wooster of Leicester, brother and sister-in-law: Stanley (Nancy) Lubanski of Leicester, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

Carl was a loving Husband, Father and Grandfather. He served his country in the US Army. He was a journeyman and toolmaker for LeRoy Machine Shop for many years. Carl loved all things flying. He enjoyed remote control planes, attending air shows, achieved his pilot’s license and owned his own plane, which he loved to take his wife Judy flying. He enjoyed family vacations, photography, boating, camping, fishing, traveling and tinkering in the garage.

He is survived by 3 sons: Benjamin (Debbie) Lafferty, Randy Lafferty and Michael (Judy Uveino) Lafferty, brothers: Leland “Bugsy” (Wanda) Lafferty and Raymond Lafferty, sisters: Dawn (Thomas) Friedl and Della (Woodrow) Cummings, 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

Florence was a lifelong member of Ascension Parish (Sacred Heart) along with its Altar & Rosary Society and assisting with the Bereavement Committee. She worked for over 40 years at the former P.W. Minor Shoe Factory. Florence was extremely proud of her Polish heritage and loved spending tme with her family.

Surviving are her loving sons, Jerome “Jerry” (Kristin) Kujawski of Batavia and Steven (Diane) Kujawski of Batavia; cherished grandson, Bradley S. (Rebecca Iannello) Kujawski; great-grandson, Gibson Charles Kujawski along with several nieces and nephews.

The Kujawski family will be present from 4-8p.m. on Sunday July 14, 2019 at the MICHAEL S. TOMASZEWSKI FUNERAL & CREMATION CHAPEL, LLC 4120 West Main Street Road Batavia, New York 14020 where prayers recited at 9:15a.m. on Monday July 15 will be followed by a 10a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Ascension Parish (Sacred Heart). Madge was a graduate of Delevan Central High School, the Wyoming County Community Hospital School of Nursing and Genesee Community College. She worked at the former St. Jerome Hospital and Genesee County Nursing Home.

She was a member of the Batavia Senior Quilting Club, enjoyed traveling and watching sports. Especially loved were her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband Frank, married 70 years, 3 sons, Richard of Schenectady, George (Yanasa) of Tonawanda and Mark (Nat) of Corfu and 1 daughter, Gail of Batavia; 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandson; Sister-in-law Alice Harding of Florida along with nieces and nephews.

At her wishes there will be no services or calling hours. Burial will be at the Wyoming, NY Cemetery by the family at a date to be determined. Kathleen Ann (Twiss) Sasenbury, 68, of Rochester passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Highland Hospital.

She was born in Batavia, NY on September 8, 1950 to the late Jeanette (Wisniewski) Ritz and Gordon E. Twiss. She was a 1968 graduate of Batavia High School and attended Bryant and Stratton Business School. Kathleen moved to Rochester in 1968 to work for the Rochester Telephone Company and later in the telecommunications industry. She moved back to Batavia for several years where her children attended high school but moved back to Rochester in 1988 where she lived for the rest of her life. 

Kathleen loved cooking, her kitties, putting on office parties and was full of life. She went through many hardships but remained a very loving, caring and giving person.

She was predeceased by her husband, Arlin Dale Sasenbury, and her daughter Joelle Lee Sasenbury who died on November 25, 2018.

Kathleen is survived by her son, Richard E. Sasenbury, of Rochester; her sisters, Connie (Chris) Stone and Becky Ritz; a stepsister, Sharon Piscitelli; a step father, Robert Ritz, all of Batavia; an uncle, Victor (Jeanne) Wisniewski, of Prince Frederick, MD, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 2636 Ridgeway Ave., Rochester, NY on Friday, July 12, 2019, from 12:00pm-2:00pm with a service immediately to follow.

Julia Lee Burnison, 57 of Okahumpka, FL passed away on Saturday, July 06, 2019. Julia was born on October 03, 1961 in Batavia, NY to the late George and Mary Burnison. She moved to Florida from Attica, NY in 1985. Julia enjoyed reading and playing a varity of games on the computer. She was a loyal friend who was funny and kind. She is survived by her brothers: George (Laurie) Burnison, of Attica, NY, and Glen Burnison, of Astatula, FL; Sister: Merrie (Roddy) Harris, of Tucson, AZ; Nieces and Nephews: Tina Knapp, Susan Baker, Robert Burnison, Brian Burnison, Michelle Polhamus, Jennifer Theel, Elizabeth Grace Burnison, Glen Daren Burnison; And several Great- nieces and nephews. Julia was a beloved sister, aunt, and friend who will be deeply missed by many. Phil was a graduate of the Batavia High School class of 1950.  He then served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.  Phil worked for many years at GT Sylvania and Batavia Downs, until his retirement.  He spent his retirement babysitting and chauffeuring his granddaughters and working part-time at his daughter's law office.   

Phil was a lifelong member of St. Anthony's Church and later, Resurrection Parish.  He was also a member of the St. Nick's Social Club, the Knights of Columbus, and served as President of the Batavia Downs Independent Employees' Union for many years.

Phil was an avid sports fan and especially loved the New York Yankees.  He also loved his coffee groups, Sunday sauce, nice cars, and sharp clothing.  More than anything, Phil was proud of his family and adored his five granddaughters and great-granddaughter.    

Mr. LoBello is survived by his wife Joyce (Porter) LoBello of Batavia; children Debra (Mark) Burhans of Elba; Philip M. (Kristina) LoBello; 5 grandchildren, Karen (Joseph) Colangelo, Gretchen (Thomas) McManama, Lauren (William Arpin) Burhans, Nicole (Nate) Recht, Lucia LoBello; great-granddaughter Cecilia Joyce Colangelo, along with several nieces and nephews.

She was a 1944 graduate of Grover Cleveland High School in Buffalo. Jackie worked for Robeson Cutlery in Perry and later for Mallory timers in Warsaw for over 30 years retiring from them at their closing in 1986. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Perry Center where she taught Sunday school, was the church clerk since 1964 and sung in the church choir. Jackie loved to bake, many who knew her called her the “Cake Lady” she made decorative cake for all occasions.

She is survived by a son Kevin (Kay) Hough of Warsaw, 6 grandchildren: Vicki (Paul) Hinsken, Derrick Hough, Alicia (Gene) Huff, Trisha (Matthew) Wolfe, Bridgette Flint, Barbara (Christopher) Kribbs, 16 great grandchildren: Austin, Kallie, Mason and Dylan Hinsken, Joshua and Aiden Hough, Autumn and Matthew Huff, Leanne Wolfe, Nikita and Kylee Hess, Micaela Van Buren, Jesika, Brock and Christie Jones, NovaLea Kribbs, 1 great great grandson: Brayden Hinsken, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

Ruth was born March 12, 1918, in Batavia, a daughter of the late Bert and the late Annabell (Stackhouse) Harloff.

She is preceded in death by her husbands, Robert A. Higley after 44 years of marriage on March 31, 1981; George H. Starr on July 20, 1989; and Maurice G. Weber on September 11, 2004.  Ruth is also preceded in death by a son, Myron E. Higley on June 5, 1989; and a brother, SSGT Donald J. Harolff in July 1943.

For 32 years, Ruth was in business with her sons, operating Higley's Welding Service in Pavilion.

Surviving are her daughters, Beverly A. (late Leon) Hess and Barbara (late Bill) Barber; sons, Roger (Patricia) Higley and Richard (Sandra) Higley; daughter-in-law, Donna Higley; step-children, J. Randolph (Lucinda) Starr and Richard (Joan) Weber; step-daughter-in-law, Deborah (late James) Starr; brother, Harold B. (late Jean) Harloff; sister, Marjorie (late Ralph) Long.  Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, step-children, brothers and sisters-in law with special thanks to Vera Pursel.

Oakfield/West Seneca - Zollie Jackson, Jr., 56, of Oakfield and formerly of West Seneca, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at United Memorial Medical Center.

Zollie was born September 5, 1962 and attended day habilitation.  He will be remembered by his family from Maple Avenue in Oakfield.

There will be no prior calling hours. Graveside services for Zollie will be held on Friday (July 12) at 12:00 p.m. at Grandview Cemetery, Clinton Street Road (Route 33) in Batavia.
