Bergen - Maria Kowalczyk, 100, of Bergen, died Friday, May 27, 2016 at her home, in Bergen.

Mrs. Kowalczyk was born December 8, 1915 in Poland, the daughter of the late Alojzy and Alberta Filipowicz.

She was the oldest member of St. Brigid's Church and enjoyed flower gardening.

Her husband, Boleslaw "William"  Kowalczyk, who died February 9, 2008.

Survivors include two sons: Henry Kowalczyk of Bergen, and Stan Kowalczyk of Rochester; five daughters: Jadwiga Syfert of Bergen, Teresa Kowalczyk of Warsaw, Anna (Robert) Johnson of Lawrenceville, GA, Krystyna (Paul) Lang of Byron and Elizabeth Kowalczyk of East Bethany; 9 grandchildren: Kate Syfert of VA, Kristen (Carey) Ng of Long Island, Daniel (Allison) Schiraldi of CA, Mary (Andy) Lee of Seneca Falls, Laura (Timothy) Price of MI, Emily Schiraldi of TN, Stephanie (Andrew) Kloster of GA, Stan Adam Kowalczyk of Elmira and Nicholas Kowalczyk of Rochester.  7 great grandchildren, Abigail Ng, Zachary Ng, Victoria Ng, Carter Lee, Nolan Lee, Daniel Price and BryceSchiraldi.  

Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at H.E. MILDRED R. CURTIS

Age 96, of LeRoy, formerly of Alexander died peacefully Thursday May 26, 2016 at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home. She was born October 17, 1919 in Buffalo, NY, a daughter of the late Herman and Minnie (Pralow) Henschke also preceded in death by her husband, Dudley Curtis and a sister, Betty Volk.   

Mrs. Curtis was a Matron in the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter, Varysburg, NY. 

Surviving is are her loving children, Linda Snyder of Tampa, FL, Donald (Nancy) Curtis of Alexander and Robert (Renee) Curtis of Santa Monica, CA; grandchildren, Brett R. Snyder, Brad (Michelle) Rodon, Kathy (Todd) Bender and Amy Ellis; 13 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.  

Millie's family will be present from 11:00 - 3:00PM on Wednesday June 1, 2016 at the MICHAEL S. ANN JANE PRUCHA

Age 75, of Batavia, died peacefully Tuesday May 24, 2016 at the Batavia Health Care Center. She was born December 27, 1940 in Brooklyn, NY, a daughter of the late John and Ruth (Armstrong) Tucker; also preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Prucha in 2004; brother, John Tucker and sister, Ruth Gebel. 

Mrs. Prucha was a loyal, faithful member of the Grace Baptist Church, she loved her family and friends, sewing, handcrafts and many types of needlework. She had a career as a librarian having worked for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Harris Beach PLLC  and the Eastman Kodak, Co. Jane will be remembered as a kind caring woman who loved to be with family. 

Surviving are her loving children, Craig (Marlene) Prucha of Pavilion, Cheryl (John) Penn of Chemung, James (Deanne) Prucha of Batavia, Lori (Donald) Childs of Batavia and Timothy (Leila) Prucha of Knoxville, TN; brother-in-law, John Gebel of Marengo, IL; sister-in-law, Ann Tucker of Huntington Station, NY; 19 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.

Amy S. Weaver, 44, of Lockport passed away with her family by her side on Thursday May 26, 2016 at her home. She was born July 11, 1971 in Batavia to the late William Lampke and Carol (Demmer) Irwin of LeRoy. Amy is preceded in death by a son Christopher Weber, siblings William Lampke, Joann Miller and Ann Bohnm.

Amy worked and was highly respected as an RN, starting in Newfane and finishing at Eastern Niagara Hospital, Inc. in Lockport. She taught CPR and Medatech Services. Amy loved swimming, being a lifeguard and giving swim lessons. She was an avid Bowler, loved camping, cruises, traveling, going to movies, and above all else spending time with her family.

She is survived by her beloved husband Richard G. Weaver Jr. of Lockport; children David (Fiancé Rachel Donovan) Weber of Lockport; Jeffrey (Taylor) Weber of Colorado Springs, CO; Gregory Weber of Youngstown, NY; Eric and Ashley (Fiancé Joshua Brewer) Weaver of Lockport; siblings Rex (Janet) Lampke of Warsaw; Margaret (Craig) Hurley of LeRoy; Barbara (John) Viscove of LeRoy; Steven (Lisa) Lampke of Ithica; Robin (Mark) Hall of Batavia; Linda (late Douglas) Weig of LeRoy; Dale Lampke of NYC; 2 grandchildren Skyler and Colton, along with many nieces and nephews.

Michael "Mickey" F. Yanno, 69, of Rochester passed away on May 22, 2016 at his home in Rochester. Michael was born in Warsaw, New York on July 20, 2016 a son of the late Michael J. and Julia (Loverdi) Yanno.  Along with his parents he is preceded in death by a sister Francine Kledhammer.

Mike was a Sergeant in the US Army during Vietnam. He was a Green Beret stationed in Ft. Bragg and in Germany.  He was a graduate of Mt. Morris High School. He worked for the Local Union #13 in Rochester. A former member of the Silver Lake Sportsman’s Club and the Perry Vets Club and the National Rifle Association. Mike was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed reading and watching movies.

He is survived by 3 daughters; Dawn (Marshall) Bennett of Michigan, Julie Yanno and Heather Yanno both of North Carolina; a son Michal (Ann) Yanno III of Rochester; 2 sisters Marie (Donald) Ambrose of North Carolina, Frances McCabe of Rochester, Nicholas Yanno of Perry, Frank Yanno of California and Richard Yanno of Florida; 8 grandchildren Erica Pedraza, Kristina (Jon) Geddes, Jessica Holland, Alton Pierce, Crystal Pratt, Storm, Autumn and Teryn Yanno, along with many nieces and nephews.

  Steven L. Lantz, 49, of LeRoy passed away on Tuesday May 24, 2016 at the United Memorial Medical Center. He was born on October 23, 1966 in Batavia to the late Harvey Lantz and Dorothy (Risher) Tobolski of Oakfield. 

Steven was a truck driver for Angelica in Batavia. He was an avid bowler, loved golfing and playing cards.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by 2 sons; William (Ashley) Lantz of Caledonia, Joseph (Jill Hupp) Lantz of Buffalo; his girlfriend Laura Hupp of LeRoy; brothers Harvey (Kimberley) Lantz of Oakfield, Ronald (Theresa) Tobolski and Kevin (Julie) Tobolski both of Oakfield; and his 3 grandchildren Isabell, Kameren and Ryliee Lantz along with many nieces and nephews.

MICAH G. GARD & MICHAEL J. GARD

Age 2 1/2, of Batavia, twin boys, were carried to Heaven by the angels on Friday evening May 20, 2016. They were born December 9, 2013 in Batavia to Liin-Noshugaun and Heather Ace both of Batavia. They were preceded in death by grandfather, Gerald Gard and great-grandfather, Gaylord R. Ace. 

Micah and Michael warmed the hearts of everyone from the minute they were born, twins they were, but there was an amazing bond between them, even sharing their own language. Michael was always happy, physically bigger than Micah, but he had the bigger personality. They both had a love of animals, their favorite cartoon was Paw Patrol and both has a tremendous love of their grandparents. 

Surviving along with their parents are a brother, Malachai Gard and sister, Milliana Gard; maternal grandmother, Della (Nana Bear) Martinez of Batavia; maternal great-grandmother, Dollie Williams of Batavia; paternal grandparents, Brian (Tracy) Ace of Batavia; paternal great-grandmother, Maryann Ace of Alabama; great-grandparents, Gerri Steger of Rochester and Clarence (Maryjane) Steger of Arizona; uncles, Brian Ace, Francisco Martinez, Jr. and Cody Harloff; aunts, Nashabia Gard, Shantrionna & Fantazzia Martinez, Rosella Williams, Erica & Amber Ace along with a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. 

The family will be present from 11:00 - 1:00PM Saturday May 28 at City Church 210 East Main Street where a Celebration of the Boy's Life will begin at 1:00PM. They will be laid to rest in Stafford Rural Cemetery and in lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the family.

Ann K. Colton, 80, of Attica passed peacefully on May 23, 2016 at Wyoming County Community Hospital. She was born November 20, 1935 in Batavia to the late Chauncey S. (Catharine Cornwell) Kibbe.

Mrs. Colton is preceded in death by her beloved husband Charles M. Colton who passed in 2013; niece Kelly Colton.   

Ann was a longtime member of the Attica Golf Club, an avid bowler and made it a point to attend all of her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events especially their high school athletics. She was a lifetime member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Attica. Ann loved her family dearly and cherished the time that she spent with them.

She is survived by her sons Thomas (Sherry) of Attica; James (Pamela) of Rochester; John (Elena) of Attica; daughters Susan Colton of Attica; Catharine (Richard) Smithley of Attica; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren along with one niece and one nephew.

Mr. Stephen W. Maier, Jr., “KZ2R” of Medina, passed away at his home on Monday, May 23, 2016.

Mr. Maier was born in Medina, September 8, 1946, a son of the late Stephen W. and Helen (Stefaniak) Maier, Sr. A graduate of Medina High School, class of 1963, he married the former Marlene Quintern on December 30, 1967. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served on the church board of which he was a past president.

Active in the community, Mr. Maier was a member of the Sacred Heart Club and a Past President of Medina Area Jaycees. He enjoyed the outdoors and was a hunter, fisherman, camper and golfer. He enjoyed poker and participated in poker tournaments and, participated in pool, bowling, and softball leagues. HAM Radio was his passion. He was a life member of the American Radio Relay League, a member and Past President of the Orleans County Amateur Radio Club, and participated in many HAM Radio contests worldwide.

Mr. Maier was employed by Eastman Kodak Company for 36 years in multiple roles including software engineering, retiring in 2004.

Survivors include four children, Stephen W. (Lisa) Maier, III, Thomas Bradley (Kim) Maier; Peter Eric (Jeanine) Maier and Rachel Joy (Shaun) Coolbaugh; 8 grandchildren, Stephen W., IV, Brian, Erik, Dylan, Trevor, Jacob, Hannah and Tabitha; a brother, James (late Darlene) Maier and his sister, Phyllis (Dr. John) Ganter; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Marlene, on March 12, 2011.

Friends may call on Wednesday (2­4, 7­9) at the Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina. His funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1212 West Avenue, Medina. Interment will be in Millville Cemetery.

Perry Restauranteur and Community Partner loses her battle with ALS

Anita Lynn Saulter Billings was born on December 6, 1958, in Wellsville, NY to Mary Lou (Morehouse) and Donald Saulter.

After meeting the love of her life Bruce Billings, marrying (1977), purchasing a house, and getting a dog, the couple raised three children: Jacquie Billings (Travis Barlow, Perry), Faye Billings, (New Orleans, LA), and Sarah Billings-Doerflinger (Andy Doerflinger, Geneseo). Anita worked at the ARC of Livingston-Wyoming for seventeen years. Her first and last job were at the Hole in the Wall Restaurant and Lounge. As a waitress in the 1970s and early 1980s a seed of passion for the restaurant industry was planted. She demonstrated her appreciation for the restaurant’s legacy and history when she purchased The Hole in the Wall in 2001. She and Bruce leveraged all of their family’s resources to preserve the spirit of the HW, continuing the tradition of affordable family-friendly dining while pushing the limits of the region’s culinary boundaries. Anita was proud of being on the first girls softball team at PCS (1976) and of winning the division title. Her team’s banner was lonely on the walls of the gymnasium until the late 1990s produced a streak of winning athletic teams—led by her daughters and their peers. Some of her favorite times were supporting all of the members of these teams as they pushed themselves in competition. Anita’s departure leaves the Village of Perry Board (Trustee), Community Action for Wyoming County (board member), and Perry Rotary Club (President-Elect) short one uniquely creative, perceptive, problem-solving partner. Anita’s commitment to the arts and culture of Perry will be greatly missed, (Taste of Summer/Perry Chalk Art Festival, “Pieces of Perry” en Plein Air Festival, Shake on the Lake, to name a few), and Perry Central School lost a committed alumnus (Past President of the Alumni Association). Working with Anita was a lesson in passionate drive and determination; but whether you were the DA or the dishwasher, whether it was a polished glass in her restaurant or a union contract the same intense thoughtfulness was always given.

Anita was honored to receive Rotary’s Paul Harris Fellow on May 19, 2016 in honor of her service. She retired from the HW in November of 2015 to become the director of pretend and play for her grandchildren Anna and Sebastian Barlow. Anna has completed her apprenticeship in P&P and will lead her brother Sebastian and cousin Baby Billings-Doerflinger (expected late summer) in achieving the highest level of imagination and creativity possible.

Anita passed away with the faithful knowledge she would be welcomed into heaven by her parents, her brother Mark, and father-in-law Leland “Burdette” Billings. Left behind, but inspired by Anita’s example, are her mother-in-law Norma Billings (Perry); devoted siblings: Sylvia Romesser (Anthony, North Java), Paula Tozier (Scott, Varysburg), Donald Saulter (Varysburg); her husband’s siblings: Deborah Blackmon (Dansville), Connie Laesser (Gary, Perry), Barbara Lambros (Ace, Silver Springs) as well as many nieces and nephews.

Anita Billings lost her battle with ALS on May 21, 2016, at home surrounded by her loving family, siblings, and her best friend, and confidant Kellie Kennedy (Larry, Geneseo).

 Barbara J. (Burr) Gill, 75, of Attica passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Medina Memorial Hospital.  She was born to the late Clyde Burr and Elizabeth Burr on December 11, 1940.  She was the devoted wife of 40 years to the late Dennis L. Gill married on October 6, 1962.

Barbara was a graduate of Attica High School Class of 1958.  During her years in the Attica Community, she is best known for her devotion to children of the community running her own child daycare.  For approximately 45 years, she nurtured children ages birth to school age enjoying all their stages, planning activities for them, and feeling proud of them as they head off to kindergarten.  She was the home for many school age children after school and would enjoy talking to them about their days.  In her recent years, she was well known to be walking around the village with her beloved Shetland sheepdog, Bentley, and enjoying the accomplishments of her two grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter Colleen (Dave Jennings) Gill of Attica; her grandchildren Cameron Hodge of San Diego and Tarryn Hodge of Attica; a sister Janet (Rolf) Schroeder of Florida; a niece Donna (Rich) Spofford; a grand-niece Drea Watson all of Greece and a nephew Scott (Sandy) Merkle of Batavia.

Gayle Dianne Price, 68, of the Buffalo Mobile Home Park in Varysburg, NY died at Buffalo General Hospital on May 12, 2016 after a short illness.  She was born February 11, 1948 to the late Marion M. (Nee Getz) and Robert W. Price. 

Gayle graduated high school in 1965 from Kenmore West. Following her high school graduation she obtained a job at Brand Names Wholesale Distribution until its closing.  She then began working at Motorola/Presolite where her mother had also obtained work.  After Motorola's closing and her mother's retirement, Gayle went to work in East Aurora, NY at Fisher-Price Toys as a Customer Service Representative in the electronics department. Gayle has always had a special fondness for animals in general and for cats and kitties in particular.  She and her mom took in and fed many strays.

Gayle is survived by two half siblings; David J. Price and Janice J. Price.  She is also survived by cousins James A. Tait and Cheryl A. Tait of Marilla, Donald M. Tait of Welland, Ontario, John D. Tait of New Brunswick and Robert P. Tait of St. Catherines, Ontario.  Gayle has been surrounded with a number of special friends  among who are Carol Conrad of Freedom and Joyce Griffen of Varysburg.

There will be no prior calling hours. Gayle will be interred at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Attica after a Graveside Service at 11:00AM on Friday May 27, 2016.
