Robert N. Miles, 82, of Corfu, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, October 13, 2021.

Robert was born on December 19, 1938. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Albert and Catherine Miles as well as his siblings Albert “Henry” Miles, Catherine “Ann” Kelly, Sarah “Sue” Duschen, Oliver Miles and William “Bill” Miles. 
His loving wife of 53 years, Linda P. (Hollenbeck) Miles, passed away November 19, 2011.

Robert was a loving brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather. Robert was  a member of the United States Army. He was a lifelong welder at O.K. Trogan for 30 year and retired from Stripp It. For many years he owned and operated Miles Welding. In his spare time, he enjoyed farming, camping, hunting and gardening.

Robert is survive by his wife Sharon (Bachert) Miles; his children, Lynn (Richard) Draves, Kathleen Miles, Virginia (Joseph) Paper, Ronald Miles and Daniel (Jody) Miles; three step daughters, Amanda, Jessica and Tracy; 14 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; sister-in law Kathy Miles, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Friends and family may call Friday, October 15, 2021,  from 4 to 8 p.m. at the C. B. Beach & Son Mortuary, Inc., 4 East Main Street Corfu. Funeral services will be held at the mortuary Saturday, October 16th at 11a.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Corfu.

  Norman J. Rzepka, 80 of Alden, passed away on Saturday October 9, 2021 at the Buffalo VA Medical Center.  He was born March 6, 1941 to the late Mildred and Alexander Rzepka of Alden.

He is survived by his children Randy (Shari) Rzepka, Jeff (Jen) Rzepka, Wendy (John) Miszuk; dear brother of Marie (Roger) Measer, Patricia Ann (late Darrell) Williams, Richard Rzepka and the late Maryellen and John J. Rzepka.

The beloved grandfather to Rily, Nolan, Paige, Alex, and Marty Rzepka; John (Robyn), Steven (Sarah), Joshua and Brayden Miszuk; and Meghan McLaughlin. Great-grandfather to Lily Kent.

He enjoyed riding his tractor and farming, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Thomas Joseph Spadaro, 74, of Le Roy, NY passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2021.

Tom was born on August 24, 1947 to Samuel and Susan (Stoppi) Spadaro in Frackville, Pennsylvania. He moved with his parents as an infant to the town he grew to love, LeRoy, New York.

After graduating from LeRoy High School, Tom enlisted in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. Due to a medical condition, he was honorably discharged early and returned to LeRoy where he married Linda Brown. They had two children, Amy in 1972 and Joseph in 1974.

While raising his family, Tom worked for C.P. Ward and Bell Construction. If you are anywhere in the Rochester area, chances are good that you will travel over a bridge or pass by a building that he worked on. He loved to putter in his garage, fixing and painting cars and hosting gatherings with family and friends.

As his children grew up, Tom relocated to Orange County, California. He started Southern California Maintenance and grew a successful company that encompassed all of his building talents.

While in California, he met his wife, Gina (Wright). They shared a love of country-western music and dancing. Tom proved to be very talented at the two-step and wasn’t shy about showing it off.

On Monday, December 15, 1997, Tom called Gina and asked her to marry him. She accepted and they went to City Hall for a romantic ceremony on their lunch break.

While Tom was in California, his son Joe became interested in the limousine business. Joe started operations in LeRoy, and Tom used his self-taught craftsmanship to transform bus shells into party buses and ship them back to Joe. Seventeen buses later, Gina had had it with not having any parking space in the driveway or the garage, so Tom took this opportunity to start their relocation to LeRoy, back to the community and family that he loved.

Tom and Gina acquired the property on the creek bank where Tom built their beautiful home. Every inch of their house, inside and out, has been touched by Tom’s talented hands.

After moving the well-established limousine business to its current location, Tom and Joe began buying distressed properties in the Village and bringing them back to life. Tom could walk into a dilapidated, neglected house and have a clear vision of what it could become. He was skilled in all aspects of homebuilding and remodeling and worked tirelessly in the transformation of each project, making LeRoy beautiful one home at a time. If you ever saw Tom’s old yellow truck parked in front of a house, you knew there was hard work and magic going on inside.

You knew Tom cared about you if he gave you a nickname. Many friends, family members and co-workers became known by the nickname that Tom had given them. To name a few- Scoob, Chiquita Banana, Schmo, Buddy Boy, Beaner, Boss, Dude, Missified, Cassified, Squirrel, Ron Boy, Lulabell, Mouse, Shermanator, and Beulah.

Tom served on the Zoning Board of Appeals for the Village.  If he firmly believed in a person’s cause, he fought for them with everything he had.

Tom was instrumental in getting the LeRoy Community Pool re-opened. He believed that it was the community’s obligation to see that every child had the opportunity to learn how to swim and to have a venue for healthy social interaction. Aside from his family, this accomplishment was Tom’s greatest source of pride.

Tom was predeceased by his parents and his first wife. He is survived by his brother, James Spadaro of Bonsall, California; his wife, Gina; his daughter Amy (Daniel) Vanderhoof; his son Joseph (Nikki Stone) Spadaro; and five grandchildren- Sydney and Zachary Vanderhoof; Joseph, Dominic and Anthony James (AJ) Spadaro.

Services will be held privately by the family. A celebration of life will be held in Tom’s honor this coming Spring at his beloved Community Pool prior to the opening of the next pool season. Stafford - David  G. Oderkirk, age  81, of Stafford, passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at Brothers of Mercy Nursing Home in Clarence.

He was born August 29, 1940 in Batavia, a son of the late George C. Oderkirk and Mildred Baker Oderkirk.

He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. He was a longtime rural postal carrier in Byron and self-employed farmer.

David is the husband of the late Sandra D. Hartrick Oderkirk who passed away in 1988 and Sharon Lee Voorhees Oderkirk who passed away in 2013 and grandfather of the late Warren "Buddy" Oderkirk, Jr. who passed away on November 15, 2016 and great-grandfather of Kennedy Rose McCullough who passed away on March 9, 2018.

Surviving are his children, Warren Oderkirk, Sr. of Byron, Andrew (Michele) Oderkirk of St. Clair, Michigan, Audra Bates of Byron, Christa Oderkirk of Batavia and Pam (Aaron) Sharp of Byron, New York; ten grandchildren; Courtney (Andy) Kelkenberg, Chelsea (Dan) Mlynarek, Sarah (Mark) Hazlette, Nicholas (Olivia) Oderkirk, Dylan Bates, Ashley (Rich) McCullough, Kerri Bates, Seth Sharp, Jayme Sharp and Makayla Oderkirk; five great-grandchildren; Olivia McCullough, Quinn and Hudson Kelkenberg, Jackson Mlynarek and Caleb Oderkirk; his brother; Richard (Joan) Oderkirk of Strongsville, Ohio; his sister; Jean (Floyd) Pissanos of Hornell, New York; along with three step-children, several step-grandchildren, step great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. John M. Deleo, 89 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Premier Genesee. He was born September 29, 1932 in Batavia, to the late Nicholas and Dominica (Colangelo) Deleo. He is preceded in death by siblings, Mary (Emmet) Elmore, Anna Deleo, Antoinette Deleo, Frank (Sarah) Deleo, Yolanda (Ronald) Phillips and Louis (Lorraine) Deleo.

Mr. Deleo graduated from Batavia High School in 1951 and Rider College in 1953. He was the President of Ontario Liquor Distributors in Rochester for 30 years. John was a member of Resurrection Parish in Batavia.

He is survived by his beloved wife Helen (Lembcke) Deleo of Batavia, children, Lynn (Mark) Dailey of TX, Nancy (Scott) Tashjy of NJ and Michael Deleo of VA, 5 grandchildren, one great-grandson, along with many nieces and nephews.

Joyce Mildred Brown Toal Covert age 91, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 10, 2021, at the New York State Veterans Home in Batavia, NY, with her daughter Linda by her side.  Joyce was predeceased by beloved husbands Wayne B. Toal, October 31, 1971, and Wilson C. Covert, January 7, 2021; son James A. Toal and step-sons John Covert and Andrew Covert; sister Janice Brown Kjeldgaard Boyd; grandson James W. Toal; step-daughters in law Deborah Covert and Lisa Covert.

Joyce will be sadly missed by her children and step children: Michael (Denyse) Covert of Punta Gorda, FL; Christine (Robert) Ralston of Springville, UT; James Covert of Williamsburg, VA; Linda Toal of Batavia, NY; Carolyn (Gary) Dawson of Batavia, NY; Kathleen (Randy) Alexander of Corfu, NY; Cynthia (Anthony) Lewandowski of Amherst, NY; Mark Covert of Riga, NY; Kevin (Pamela) Covert of Oakfield, NY; daughter in law Michelle Toal of Trenton, FL; step-daughter in law Christie Covert of Laredo, TX; step-daughter in law Inez (Covert) De Melo; 24 grandchildren and step-grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.

Joyce was always busy. She was a 4H Leader for 30 years and won the New York State Leadership Award. She was a Girl and Boy Scout Leader, Cub Scout Den Mother, and went to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico for Den Mother Training.  Joyce was a member of Eastern Star in Batavia, St. James Episcopal Church in Batavia, and American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed the monthly lunches and reunions with her classmates from Corfu High School.
Most recently she was an avid button collector and a member of Button Clubs in Genesee County, Elmira, North Country, Canada, and Florida. She was a Past President of the New York State Button Club.

Her greatest joy was family. She loved having the grandchildren come stay overnight and found lots of activities for them to do. She even got several of the grandchildren interested in button collecting. Joyce loved taking pictures of the children and grandchildren, her buttons, her flowers, and her friends. Her camera was always with her.
There will be graveside services at Hillside Cemetery, Angling Road, East Pembroke, on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at 11:00 AM.

  Rob Edward Griffith, 69, of Attica passed away on October 11, 2021 at Strong Memorial Hospital. He was born on May 19, 1952 in Johnson City, NY to the late Thelma “Pearl” Griffith and Rob Roy Griffith of Attica.

In addition to his father, Rob is survived by his beloved wife; Lynn Griffith; his dearest children Stephen Griffith, Meaghan Griffith and Adam (Cindy) Griffith; brother Davis (Dawn) Griffith; sister Pam Griffith; brother and sister in law Larry and Leslie Zielinski.

Rob was a United States Air Force Veteran during the Vietnam War and worked as a teacher for the Department of Corrections at multiple prisons for 29 years.

Oakfield - Janice  W.  Daum, 96 of Batavia passed away on Thursday, (September 30, 2021) at Premier Genesee Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Batavia.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Batavia and the former Oakfield Presbyterian Church, where she was very active. Mrs. Daum was one of the original members of the Oakfield Historical Society.

She is the wife of the late Virgil Daum.

Janice is survived by her Great-Nephew, Richard (Kathy) Vagg.

There will be no visitation. Those wishing may attend Janice’s Memorial Service at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday (October 16, 2021) at the First Presbyterian Church of Batavia, 300 East Main Street in Batavia. Chester Olszewski Sr. of Darien Center, NY passed away peacefully Saturday morning October 9th 2021 in his home from end stage Alzheimer’s disease. 

Chet was born as the third son of Polish immigrant parents who lived on the East side of Buffalo on a side street off of Broadway in a predominantly Polish immigrant neighborhood. He learned to speak and read Polish as a youngster and remained fluent in Polish to his last day even when dealing with Alzheimer’s. 

While Chet was still very young, his father Stanley purchased a 101 acre working farm in Bennington, NY and moved the family there. Growing up, Chet learned the skills 
of dairy farming and crop farming as well as the million and one other skills that every farmer in the 1930’s, 1940’s and beyond had to learn as part of farm life at that time. 
Chet also worked at the Massey Harris manufacturing plant on Harvester Avenue in Batavia. He served his country overseas in the Army during the Korean War and became an active member of VFW Post 6239 in Alexander, NY and American Legion Post 734 in Attica, NY thereafter. He worked for Ernst Steel in Buffalo. Chet last worked for Graham Corporation in Batavia as a welder and retired from there in 1995 always praising what a great company it was to work for. 

Upon reaching his mid to late 80’s Chet’s health began declining at a noticeable pace to the point of needing assistance with the day-to-day activities of life. His family assisted him in hiring personal care aides to take care of him at home 24/7 so he could avoid moving to a nursing facility. He remained living at his home till his final day. 
Chet was very grateful for the excellent medical care he received from Dr. Sarah Thompson and other staff at the Batavia VA medical center as well as the team of specialists working at the Home Based Primary Care at the Batavia VA. 

Chet was the beloved husband of the late Carol Olszewski; dear father of Laurie (Andy) Flambouras, William Heintzelman, Henry (Tina), Stanley (Tricia), Chet (Kelly) and Thad (Kathy) Olszewski; loving grandfather of Maxwell and Lauren Olszewski; brother of Walter (late Beverly), Joseph (Patricia), Stephania (Noel) Senecal, Sabina (Jim) Burnett and the late Lillian Tursi, Stanley (Delores) Olszewski, Frank “Peewee” Olszewski and Edwin Tabaczynski.

Family will be present at the Charles Meyer Funeral Home, 13228 Broadway Alden, NY Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Regina M. Haxton, 89, of Batavia passed away on Saturday October 9, 2021 at Brothers of Mercy Nursing & Rehabilitation Center under hospice care. She was born in Pennsylvania to the late Joseph and Alice. Regina is predeceased by brothers; Leo (Delores) and Robert. In 1955, she married William R. Haxton who predeceased her in 1997.

Regina was a graduate of Westbrook Business Academy in Olean. Her first job was at Cornell University and after marriage, she took time off to devote to her children. Regina retired from Shepard, Maxwell & Hale Insurance Agency in Batavia. Upon her retirement she had a strong desire to stay busy and make a difference. She spent many years volunteering for various activities at her church and Genesee County RSVP. As an avid reader, it meant a great deal to her to introduce youngsters to her love of reading by tutoring first graders.

She enjoyed traveling with Stone’s Traveling Seniors and Office for the Aging day trips. Regina also had a very memorable trip to Ireland.

She is survived by her daughters; Sheila (late Tod), Lois (Bryan), Cheryl (Thomas), Paula (Frederick); son William (Lynne); 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; brother–in-law John (Oleava) Haxton, along with many nieces and nephews.

  Joan “Joanie” Louise (Chatt) Ferry, 81, passed away unexpectedly in the early morning hours of October 8, 2021 at United Memorial Medical Center following a brief illness.  

Joanie was born September 2, 1940 in Batavia to Anthony and Gladys Chatt.  She was retired from the Alexander Central School District where she was an extraordinary Chef / Kitchen Manager.  She was admired for her extensive home garden, baking and cooking skills, and the most amazing fudge that family and friends enjoyed during the holidays.

Joanie enjoyed many activities including her travels to Hilton Head, SC and Paris, France; reading and chatting with her dear friends.  Fondest memories are that of playing bridge and dominoes with her circle of friends in Batavia and at the Senior Center.   She overcame her fear of water and learned to swim late in life, inspired in part by her granddaughter Madison, motivating her to participate in water aerobics at the Batavia YMCA.    Her greatest joy and pride was her family and extended family.

She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Good Counsel in Darien.   Besides her parents, Joan is predeceased by three brothers, Anthony “Whitey” Chatt, Thomas Chatt, and Patrick Chatt.

She is survived by her sister, Maryann Silvernail of Pembroke, son Stephen J. Ferry, Jr. (Elise) of Darien, daughter Donna Ferry, of Darien, son Jeffrey Ferry (Laurie) of Johns Creek, GA, daughter Jennifer Kane (Kevin) of Sandy, UT.  Her grandchildren Sarah Houle (John), Stephen Ferry III (Jessi), Emily Ferry, Andrew and Hannah Ferry, Madison and Spenser Kane, and her beautiful great grandchildren Molly, Ava Grace, and Hudson. 

Joanie will be greatly missed by her family, and her dear friends.  Like the sunflowers she loved she brought sunshine to all that she met!

  Betty Dorothy Tracy (Roberts) passed quietly of natural causes at her home in Batavia, NY on Friday morning, October 1, 2021. She was surrounded by her loving family and was listening to her favorite music by the late Johnnie Ray. She was 89 years old.

Betty was a native of London (Edmonton), England and moved to Batavia in 1957 after marrying Batavia-native and American G.I., the late John F. Tracy, who was stationed with the U.S. Army at Stansted airfield.

For five decades Betty was the secretary at Charles R. Pero and Sons plumbing on Pearl St. in Batavia. She was self-trained in bookkeeping and office management and loved working there until her retirement in 2007 at 75 years old.

Betty was born in 1932 in the middle of the Great Depression and lived in London throughout WWII. She had fantastic stories about the war: The Battle of Britain and the Blitz; Victory gardens; the horror and terror of it all set against the wonder of how this brought everyone closer together. She would recall how nice everyone was to each other during the war because you never knew if you would see them the next day. She liked to remind her American family that the UK was rationed until 1955, and that we needed to be grateful for the abundant blessings we have. She was diligent and did not like waste and was always perplexed by the lack of common sense and decency in others.

The fifth of eight children, Betty finished school at 14 years old and went to work as an apprentice seamstress at a dressmaker’s shop near Central London. She loved the banter on the factory floor which was filled with other girls from all parts of Britain and Ireland. Over the din of the machines, she perfected her comedic timing and ironic wit especially in the presence of any figure of authority. Each week she would give her paycheck to her parents and would in turn receive an allowance; she did not receive a key to the front door until she was 21 years old, something that was a celebrated custom. Her father was a master confectioner who was born in 1899. Her mother, who was born at sea on a Swedish vessel, ran the household. That her father and mother were able to earn and save enough money to raise a large family and buy a house was something at which she marveled, especially as it was achieved in those difficult decades of the early-to-mid 2oth century.

Although diminutive in stature no one dared cross her. She was fearless, indomitable, and irreverent. She was fiercely loyal to family and friends and never turned away from helping or defending someone in pain or in need, even if that meant making a scene. She was never embarrassed- she just got on with things and always kept the proverbial ‘stiff upper lip’ and her sense of impish irony. She was practical and sensible but loved the right moment where she could be absolutely outrageous. She knew how to make an entrance to any room, but leaving her home was always the same: a kiss and hug goodbye followed by a warm wave from her at the door, until your car was completely out of sight.

Betty loved music, flowers, crosswords, tea, Jeopardy and Scrabble. She enjoyed the seaside, its clear air and walks on the beach. She also looked forward to the rare visit to the horse track. She was a fan of the Buffalo Bills and the Tottenham Hotspurs, both of which caused her perennial anguish. She never took herself too seriously, which is a hallmark of British humor, but also a special attribute of her generation. She was always game for new ideas and could make anything an adventure. She loved shopping excursions to Buffalo or Rochester, excited to find sales and bargains, but mostly to spend time with her family and friends. She liked to dress smartly and always did, even if just popping out to buy a few groceries. Betty was an expert knitter who amazed other good knitters with her skill and imagination. She loved to sing and dance and had a song for every occasion- she always got the party going and kept it moving until the end. She was exceptionally gracious and accommodating.

Betty was immensely proud of the many personal and professional accomplishments of her children and grandchildren, but made sure they all kept their feet on the ground and their “necks wound in.” She never missed a birthday, anniversary, or Christmas card for any family or close friend. Christmases were cherished by her- she planned all year what gifts she would give to everyone- and the living room was always somehow chock-full of presents that she took care to wrap perfectly. Although not a great cook she always put on a fantastic spread that was at least edible and not something that a good brown sauce, mint sauce or gravy could not make exquisite (the British not being known for their culinary prowess); the most important thing was that everyone was together and present. Sundays were reserved for a great British fry-up and rich lessons in Cockney rhyming slang. She had a keen memory and was an accurate read of people. She could be obstinate, but never obnoxious- she knew where the line was and reveled in dancing along its fine edge. She took pleasure in small things and gave boundless support to her family and friends.

Betty was predeceased by her husband John F. Tracy. She was also predeceased by six siblings, two of whom had also emigrated to North America. She is survived by her younger sister Elsie Roberts of Oshawa, ON. She is survived by her six children: Carol (Peter) Wardill of Epsom, Surrey, UK; Linda Tracy (Richard Smith) of Batavia, NY; Diane Tracy of Jacksonville, FL; Vincent (Elizabeth) Tracy of Houston, TX; Stephen (Tracey) Tracy of Beaverton, OR; and Denise (Troy) Vereecken of Bergen, NY. In addition, she is survived by fifteen grandchildren and an ever-growing number (currently at 11.5) of great-grandchildren. She is greatly loved and will be missed by many nieces and nephews on both sides of the pond for whom she was “Aunt Bette.”

A memorial service will be held in the Spring of 2022 around the time of what would have been her 90^th birthday.

Byron - Jean S. Ogley, 72 of Byron passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2021 at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.

Mrs. Ogley was born Saturday, November 6th, 1948 in the Bronx,  a daughter of the late Charles Soltau and Dorothy Ellenbast Soltau.

Surviving are her husband of 47 years,Paul F. Ogley  of Byron; her children, Joshua (Sara) Ogley of Batavia, Meghan (Tim) Weible of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and Matthew (Jennifer) Ogley of Russell, Kentucky; nine grandchildren; her brother, Richard (Sheila) Soltau of Jacksonville, Florida along with nieces and nephews.

There are no prior visiting hours. Akron - Carrie Ann Wetzel Booth, age 52, passed away Thursday morning, October 7, 2021, at the Orchard Manor Nursing Home in Medina.

    

 She was born October 24, 1968 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Richard and Emma Legg Wetzel.

     Her exceptional memory and her sharp wit will be remembered by all.

     Carrie is survived by her sisters, Brenda Wetzel, Dora (David) Henry and Diana (Jim) Jakubonis; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, several cousins and special friend, Tom Nelson.

     In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Edward Gardner, her infant son and her feline companion, Pantera.

     Family and friends may call on Friday, October 15 from 5 ~ 7 PM at the Calvary Baptist Church, 3515 Galloway Road, Batavia, NY, where her Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 16 at 11:00 AM.  Interment will be private.

Basom – Lillian B. “Lil” Weaver, age 99, of Alabama, NY, passed peacefully on October 7, 2021, surrounded by family.

Pre-deceased by her husband, Edward C. Weaver Sr.; and sons, Earl and Edward C. Jr. “Bud”; and son-in-law, John Jaszko.

Survived by sons, Lee (Marlene) Weaver, and Brian (Sherry) Weaver; daughters, Barbara Jaszko and Nancy Dunn; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Lillian was born May 16, 1922, in Rochester, NY, the daughter of Arthur Bell and Bertha Ann (Clarke) Henry. She had polio as a young child and grew up in the Great Depression. She married Edward C. Sr., on May 1, 1938, they welcomed 6 children and went on to have 103 descendants. Lillian was an avid bowler, participating on teams in many leagues over the years until the age of 84. Lil was always up for a card game and looked forward to playing cards with the family any chance she got. She would make pies for the extended families for holidays and canned many fruits and vegetables, she would zip right through peeling a batch of any fruit or vegetable.

Family will receive friends and family on Thursday, October 14, 2021, from 3-7 pm; Funeral services on Friday, October 15, 2021, at 11 am at Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Ave, Oakfield, NY 14125. Private burial for the family will take place immediately following. Lillian will be buried at the Alabama Cemetery.
