Jessie L. Huff, 92 of Lockport passed away Wednesday April 22, 2015 at the Newfane Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.  om She was born April 10, 1923 in Saybrook, PA to the late George (Harriet Custer) McClellan. She is preceded in death by her husband Richard L. Huff; brothers George and Gary and a sister Jane.

Jessie especially loved time with her family, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and was a stalwart fan of the New York Yankees, rarely missing a game on TV. Her strong, kind, and loving heart got her through 92 good years.

She is survived by 3 sons; Daniel (Rachel) Huff of Wilson, Steven (Betsy Gilbert) Huff of Rochester and David (Shirley) Huff of Wesley Chapel, FL; 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday April 26, 2015 from 1PM – 3PM & 5PM – 7PM at Marley Funeral Home, LLC 135 Main Street Attica, New York 14011. Irene H. Gates of Batavia passed away on Tuesday (April 21, 2015) at United Memorial Hospital.     Born in Worthington, Pennsylvania, Irene was the third child and second daughter of Hamilton Smith Hogg and Bertha Bundy Hogg.  Her father owned the Buffalo Valley Dairy farm, and her family still loves to collect old milk bottles from the dairy. She is survived by her husband of more than 58 years, Ira M. Gates; brother Frank Hogg (Martha) of Kittanning, PA; daughters Susan J. Blanchard (Tom) of Lockport, NY, Evalyn I. Gates (Eric Pelander) of Cleveland, Ohio, and Cheryl L. Gates of Batavia; grandchildren Kate Kleismit (Jeff) of Lockport, Anna Blanchard of Pittsburgh, PA, Greg Pelander (Shawna) of Portland, OR, Jordan Pelander (Nicole) of Los Angeles, CA, and Kendall Pelander of Chicago, IL; great-grandson Nathan Kleismit; and many nieces and nephews.

Irene was an intrepid adventurer and traveler – she had been to all 50 states in the U.S. as well as to countries around the globe including Russia, Peru, Scotland, Ireland, and a trip through the Panama Canal.  She would take off at a moment’s notice to visit family and friends whether across town or across the country.  Each spring she traveled with family and friend to Jekyll Island, Georgia, where she enjoyed golf and long walks on the beach.  Part of her travels were for her work on the genealogy of her family, as well for many other families who called upon her expertise in tracing their roots.  She was a long-time member of the Genesee County Genealogical Society and was co-author of a commissioned book for the Paolo Busti Cultural Foundation on the genealogy of Batavia’s Italian community, The Legacy of Italian-American Families in Genesee County, New York.

A talented seamstress, Irene enjoyed making beautiful and unique clothes for herself and her family, and the Halloween costumes she created for her daughters won many prizes.  She was an avid and expert bridge player, and was a member of many bridge and duplicate bridge clubs. An avid reader, she spent hours at Batavia’s Richmond Memorial library, and she enjoyed playing the piano for her own enjoyment.  Summers would find her on the golf course at the Stafford Country Club, where she and her husband were members for many years.

Irene was a dedicated leader in the volunteer community, serving on the board of Genesee Memorial Hospital, chairing the Annual Gala of the Genesee Memorial Hospital League in the 1970’s, and leading the local chapter of the Girl Scouts as well as serving as chair of the annual cookie sale.  She was a Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church and active in the youth program when her children were young.

An energetic and loving grandmother, she enjoyed many adventures with her grandchildren, teaching them how to find shark’s teeth, sharing stories of her youth  and taking them to pick many buckets of blueberries. 

Services will be held this Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, 300 East Main Street, Batavia N.Y. The family will receive family and friends at the church at 3:00 p.m in the church parlor; services will begin in the Sanctuary at 4:00 p.m. and there will be a supper in the church Fellowship Hall immediately following the service.

Gladys M. Kedzierski, 96 of Batavia and formerly of Oakfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Wednesday (April 15, 2015) at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home.

She was born April 8, 1919 in Oakfield, NY, a daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine Placek Balonek.

Gladys was a beautician for most of her life and a greeter at the former Kings Department Store in Batavia prior to her retirement.  She was also a member of St. Padre Pio Parish in Oakfield.

She was predeceased by her husband, Casimer Kedzierski  in 1996 and several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include three sons, Eugene (Karen) Kedzierski of North Carolina, Theodore (Judy) Kedzierski of Oakfield and Lee (John Dickerson) Kedzierski of Rochester.  Five  grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

There will be no prior visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, June 6^th at 10:00am at St. Padre Pio Parish, 56 Maple Ave., Oakfield.  Burial will follow in St. Cecelia Cemetery.

Batavia - Thelma C. Montreal, 81, of Batavia, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2015 at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Facility.

Mrs. Montreal was born May 6, 1933 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Laverne and Doris Dorman Wood.

A longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Batavia, she was active in several church ministries including the quilting ministry. A current member of the board of directors of the Genesee ARC, she served as an advocate for residents and also served as president of the board of directors.

She will be remembered by her family as a wonderfully caring person who was always willing to help and would put the needs of others first.

She loved traveling with her family and was also a member of NARFE.

Thelma was a registered nurse for the veteran's hospitals in Batavia, Buffalo and New Mexico. Education was very important to her and she obtained her Master's Degree while working and raising her family.

She is predeceased by her husband, Frank Montreal.

She is survived by her children, Carol Montreal and Susan Montreal, both of Batavia and Thomas Montreal of East Pembroke; her son-in-law, Donald Myers of Batavia; five grandchildren; her sisters,  Roberta Baker and Beatrice Mulcahy, both of Florida; her brother,  Wayne (Karen) Wood of Alabama and several nieces and nephews also survive.

She is the mother of the late Kathleen D. Montreal who passed away on December 13, 2014 and sister of the late Dale Wood.

NANCY L. (NEWCOMER) LAWSON - age 74, formerly of Corfu died peacefully Sunday afternoon April 12, 2015 in the care of her loving family. She was born April 17, 1940 in Turtle Creek, PA a daughter of the late John Robert and Dorothy (Fuhs) Newcomer also preceded in death by brother, Robert and sister-in-law, Jean Newcomer.

   Nancy was very artistically inclined you could always find her doing some type of craft, either knitting or crocheting a hat or blanket for somebody, painting a wood figurine or drawing a picture fee hand. She was always actively involved in the Home Bureau and PTA when her children were in school. She was a member of the Pembroke Historical Association in which she was involved with the Brick House Corners Fair until her declining health no longer allowed her to participate.

   A devoted mother and wife who was always willing to help out anyone in need, she will be sadly missed by her family and all who knew her.

   Surviving are her devoted children, John Sr. (Julie) of Corfu, Shirley, Jim (Terri), Bill (Rosann) all of Batavia; grandchildren, John Jr. (Jessica), Jennifer (Jesse) Stocking all of Corfu; Bruce and Jacob Lawson of Batavia; great-grandson, Waylon Lawson of Corfu; brother, Donald Newcomer of Lancaster along with many nieces and nephews..

Oakfield - Alan H. Myers, 88, of Oakfield, died Thursday, April 16, 2015 at his home while under Homecare and Hospice.

Mr. Myers was born January 24, 1927 in Batavia, a son of the late Charles and Marion (Balfour) Myers.

At age 11, he worked for adult wages on the Elba muck.  He delivered newspapers by bicycle, set bowling pins, and in the winter, ran a muskrat trap line.  He served during WWII with the U.S. Marine Corp and was awarded medals for marksmanship.  He was stationed in Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba. 

After an honorable military discharge, he was employed by U.S. Gypsum for 11 years and survived severe injuries from a mine tunnel collapse.  He farmed and ran a chicken egg business. 

He was trained as a draftsman under the Kennedy-Johnson Jobs program in 1952 and retired in 1989 from Eastman Kodak Co. as a master draftsman engineer.

Al Myers was an exceptional craftsman in home repair and antique restorations and a gifted landscaper.  His land and home was his passion.  An avid naturalist and protector of wildlife, Al was also a marble shooter, game player, chess player, hunter, lover of dogs, cats, and Laurel & Hardy.  He was a renowned billiards player, friend of Native Americans, and a Civil War enthusiast.  He helped found the 44th NY Volunteer Civil War Regiment and was instrumental in the development of the North South Skirmish Association, where he won many marksmanship medals in antique firearms competitions. 

He delighted in driving his restored 1941 military Jeep in local parades.  His sense of humor was beloved by friends and relatives.  He was a member and Past Commander of the Hiram G. Luhman Post 626 American Legion where served on the honor’s team and was active in the Memorial Day Flag Program, placing American flags on Veteran’s graves in many local cemeteries.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth (Rectenwald) Myers, whom he married on July 9, 1949; four children, Stephen (Bertha) Myers of Chicago, Patricia Smith of Oakfield, Jean (Edward) Seeber of Plattsburgh and Bonnie Madden of Oakfield; 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.  

Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday at H.E. Turner & Co, Inc., 403 East Main St., Batavia.  A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday at St. Padre Pio Parish, St. Cecilia's Worship Site, 56 Maple Avenue in Oakfield.  Memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, 370 7th Avenue, Suite 1802, New York, NY 10001.  Burial will be in St. Cecelia's Cemetery, Oakfield. 

 

Cynthia (Wrotniak) Sanger, 55, of Bennington passed away April 14, 2015 at United Memorial Medical Center. She was born February 11, 1960 in Batavia to the late Richard (Audrey Baker) Wrotniak. She is preceded in death by her brothers Richard and Robert Wrotniak.

Cynthia recently retired from the New York State School for the Blind where she worked for 34 years. She enjoyed traveling, going to garage sales and flea markets.  She loved to read and do puzzles.

She is survived by her loving husband of 34 years Ronald Sanger of Bennington; brother Dan (Cindy) Wrotniak of Bennington and sister Kathy (Robert Nelson) Altmer; nephews Richard Wrotniak, James (Gwen) Wrotniak and Brad (Stacie) Wrotniak and nieces Sara and Emily along with great nieces Roxie and Annabelle.

There will be no prior calling hours. An 11:00 AM Memorial Service will be held on Saturday April 25, 2015 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Bennington Center.

Marie A. Cima, 87 of Corfu, passed away peacefully on Monday April 13, 2015 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. She was born January 19, 1928 in Penn, Pennsylvania to the late Anthony (Stella Kazariewieczz) Norkin. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Samuel Cima.  

She was a member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish. Mrs. Cima worked her whole life in the restaurant business, owning some with her husband. She and Sam enjoyed traveling and wintering in Florida.  Marie was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and it was common to hear cheering for them on any given Sunday.  She truly loved her family and her face would light up whenever she talked about her granddaughters with whom she shared a very special bond.

She is survived by her son John (Karen) Cima of Corfu; daughters Patricia (Ward) Karns of Fremont, CA; JoAnne (Robert) Osburn of Kirkwood, MO; three granddaughters Caitlin, Allison Cima; Maggie (Mitchell Barklage) Osburn along with many nieces and nephews.

Bergen – Ruel “Buz” Lovett, 82, of Bergen, a retired Supervisor at GM Delco, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, (April 12, 2015) at Strong Memorial Hospital, in Rochester.

Mr. Lovett was born April 4, 1933 in Finley, NC, a son of the late Dr. William D. and Geneva (Clark) Lovett.

Buzz served his country honorably during the Korean War with the Army.  He was a member of the Bergen United Methodist Church and the Hesperus Lodge F&AM.  A remarkable athlete, he played softball, enjoyed bowling and was an avid golfer.

He greatly enjoyed spending time with his family and working crossword puzzles.

He is survived by his wife, Patti (Heaton) Lovett, whom he married August 31, 1962.

Along with Patti, Buzz is survived by his children, Michael (Betsy) Lovett, and Karen (James) Howard both of Bergen; grandchildren, Kristine (Kasey) Weinert of Buffalo, Danielle Lovett of New York City, Kathleen (Glenn McKeever) Lovett of Amherst, Kimberly Lovett, Lindsey Lovett, Michelle Lovett, Amanda Eichenberger all of Bergen, H. JJ Howard of East Lansing, MI; great-grandchildren, Maddox Howard and Lucy Eichenberger; a brother, Charles (Jamie Pigott) Lovett of NC.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

He is preceded in death by his sisters, Frances, Marcelle, Lovie, and Dovie "Anne" as well as a sister-in-law, Dottie Lovett.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 51 South Lake Street, Bergen.  A Masonic Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.  Buzz’s Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, (April 16, 2015) at Bergen United Methodist Church, 27 South Lake Street, Bergen.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to be distributed to various local charities that were important to Buzz.

Concetta “Connie” Capuano, 87, of Batavia passed away peacefully on Thursday April 9, 2015 at Crossroads House.She was born May 19, 1927 in LeRoy to the late Ignazio (Rosalia O’Geen) Rubino.  She is preceded in death by her husband Salvatore “Savie” Capuano, daughter Lucille Capuano Vanson, brothers Frank and Augustine “Augie” Rubio and Sister Rose Marie Gervase.  

She was a member of Ascension Parish, the Altar and Rosary Society of the Church. Connie enjoyed bingo, cards, going to the casino, cooking and baking.

Connie is survived by her loving son Frank (Ann) Capuano of Batavia; Sister Sarah (Ronald) Dusing of Rochester; 4 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.

Batavia - Suzanne H. Dorman, 89, of Batavia, switchboard operator at the former St. Jerome Hospital in Batavia for over 30 years, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at the Genesee County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Dorman was born February 24, 1926 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Ruby Beckwith Hopp.

A member of the First Presbyterian Church since April 12, 1936, she was the second oldest living member of the congregation. She was active in the home bureau and served as a cub scout leader when her children were growing up. Mrs. Dorman enjoyed gardening, baking, garage sales and going to book reviews at the Seymour Library in Brockport.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Earl Dorman; her children, Judy (late David) Whitney of Avon, Karen (Ray) Gabriel of Brockport, Craig (Beverly) Dorman and David (Mary Ann) Dorman, both of Batavia; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia Barone.

There are no prior visiting hours. Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church, 300 East Main Street, Batavia.  Burial will be in Grand View Cemetery, Batavia.
