Veronica C. Rapp, 98, of Hilton, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2022 at Unity Hospital.

Veronica was born August 2, 1923 in Rochester, a daughter of the late Edward and Irene (Streb) Herbst.

Veronica loved spending time with her family and friends, especially playing Scrabble with them.  She enjoyed coffee along with sewing, ceramics and Facebook, where she had many friends and family.  Veronica owned and operated the former Batavia Motel.

Surviving are her children, Lawrence (Charles Harrington) Letter of Atlanta, GA, Richard (late Bonnie) Letter of Mechanicsville, VA, Kathi (Donald) Conklin of Rochester, NY, Steven (Carol) Letter of Kent, WA and David (Dawn Dunlavey) Letter of Mechanicsville, VA; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by husbands, Robert Letter and George Rapp; son, Robert Letter, Jr.; brothers, Elmer Herbst and William Herbst and sisters, Marion Schulwitz, Irene Young and Dorothy Schaubert.

Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Stafford ~ Pamela J. Kingsley, age 75, of Main Road, passed away Sunday evening (May 15, 2022) at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home.

   

  She was born April 30, 1947 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Charles and Jean Pope Diefendorf.

     Pam is survived by her sister, Trudy (Jack) Miller of Attica and her nephews, Tyler Miller and Bill Trybushyn.

     In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Reed C. Kingsley and a special cousin, Dave Diefendorf.

     Services and burial in Stafford Rural Cemetery will be private.

William Patrick O’Donnell, 90 of Akron, passed away peacefully on Wednesday (May 18, 2022) at his residence under the loving care of his family, Peggy and Hospice Buffalo.

He was born April 6, 1932 in Buffalo, NY, a son of the late Nora O’Donnell.

Bill served his country with the U.S. Navy from 1952-1956 during the Korean War. He continued his service as a reservist until 1988. He was employed by Erie County Medical Center as a Chief Clinical Perfusionist prior to his retirement. He was a member of St. Teresa’s Church where he participated as an usher and alter server. Bill and his wife Nancy were also active in the Akron Newstead Senior Center. Most of all, he enjoyed his family and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his daughters, Maureen (Carl) Metzger, Kathleen (Robert Cahill) O’Donnell and Nancy O’Donnell. Son, Daniel O’Donnell. Loving grandchildren, Christopher, Shauna, Elyse, Matthew, Daniel and Brianna. Also survived by seven great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was the husband of the late Nancy Harsch O’Donnell who died May 10, 2022 and father of the late Clatus O’Donnell.

Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday (May 21st), 10:00am at St. Teresa of Avila R.C. Church, 5771 Buell St., Akron. He will be laid to rest with his loving wife in St. Teresa’s Cemetery.

Nancy L. O’Donnell, 88 of Akron, passed away peacefully on Tuesday (May 10, 2022) at her residence under the loving care of her family and Hospice Buffalo.

She was born February 25, 1934 in Buffalo, NY, a daughter of the late Arthur and Violet Landry Harsch.

Nancy was employed as a secretary for the research foundation of the New York State University at Buffalo prior to her retirement. She was a member of St. Teresa’s Church where she participated in the church choir. She enjoyed camping and riding horses, continuing to ride well into her 70’s. Other hobbies included knitting and crocheting. She was loved dearly and will be missed by many.

She is survived by her daughters, Maureen (Carl) Metzger, Kathleen (Robert Cahill) O’Donnell and Nancy O’Donnell. Son, Daniel O’Donnell. Loving grandchildren, Christopher, Shauna, Elyse, Matthew, Daniel and Brianna. Also survived by seven great-grandchildren and a sister Dorothy Walter.

She was the wife of the late William P. O'Donnell who passed away May 18, 2022 and mother of the late Clatus O’Donnell.

Joseph R. Dean, Jr. of Macedon – Joseph, age 64, passed away at home on Saturday, May 14, 2022, after a valiant five-year battle with cancer.

Joseph was born on September 15, 1957, in Syracuse, NY, and predeceased by his parents, Joseph Sr. and Joan (Hourigan) Dean. Joseph is survived by his wife Paula (Bartz) Dean; daughters, Mandy (Jeffrey) Sanford of Bethesda, MD, and Emily Dean of Virginia Beach, VA. Joseph is also survived by sisters, Mary (David) Bittel of Syracuse, Deborah Dean of Port St. Lucie, FL, Therese Dean of Syracuse, Victoria (Robert) Pezzini of Hull, MA, Veronica Whipple of Syracuse; brother, William Dean of Canandaigua; mother-in-law, Norma (late Norman) Bartz; brother-in-law, Gary (late Mary) of Bradenton, FL; sisters-in-law, Lisa Wall of Alexander, Jodi (Robert) Hollwedel of Bethany; several nieces and nephews, along with furry friend, Tucker (Fatty).

Joe married his wife, Paula, on May 26, 1990, at St. Cecilia Church in Solvay, NY, and they made their family home in Macedon. Joe worked as an engineer in the manufacturing industry at General Electric in Syracuse, Bell Aerospace in Niagara Falls, IEC in Newark, Harris in Rochester, API Technologies (formerly SenDec) in Fairport, Northrop Grumman in Buffalo, and was also sole proprietor of MicroTest in Macedon. Joe enjoyed spending time with family and friends, golfing, tinkering in his barn, and driving around in his BMW convertible. Joe is remembered for his ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, always ready to lend a helping hand and, especially, his quick wit and sense of humor.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday (May 24), 11 AM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 52 W. Main St., Macedon NY. He will be laid to rest in Macedon Village Cemetery.

Catherine Kirchner Roth passed away at the age of 101 on April 20, 2022. She was the last surviving Kirchner triplet as well as the first born; she and her two sisters Frances and Marguerite Kirchner were born on August 23, 1920 in Brooklyn in a third floor walkup. Together with their older sister Grace, they grew up in Floral Park, NY on Long Island.

As triplets they had a special relationship with each other and a certain amount of celebrity. They were offered an arrangement at William Smith College in the Finger Lakes: 3 college educations for the price of two which they accepted. Summers they worked at the Borden Milk Pavilion at the 1939-1940 World’s Fair. Borden had been hiring twins, and was happy to add triplets to their serving staff. This gained the sisters more fame and contact with visiting celebrities.

All three sisters graduated from College in 1942; all of them also found husbands there at the adjoining campus of Hobart College. With marriage, the triplets began to go their separate ways although they maintained their special relationship with periodic family gatherings and other events, including an appearance on the Rachel Ray show in their 90’s.

Catherine married Laurence G. Roth of Batavia, NY in 1942. As so many men did at the time, he entered the military, the U.S. Navy. The Navy put him through an accelerated education, and upon his graduation from Yale Medical School, he was commissioned as an officer. He was deployed to the Pacific for a number of months on the Island of Peleliu before returning to the U.S. after the war ended. Remaining in the reserves afterwards, he was the first man in his unit called up with the outbreak of the Korean War, for another year of service.

The early years of their marriage were spent moving to locations around New England and Long Island while the Navy kept her husband on duty. Afterwards, they settled in Batavia, New York where Laurence (Larry) established a practice in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Catherine adjusted to living in upstate New York.

Although she had worked as a teacher after graduation, she became a full-time homemaker with the arrival of her first child, Marcia. In the decades that followed Catherine and Larry would raise two more children (Larry Jr. and James) and become firmly established in the community. Theirs was a marriage of mutual respect and support that enriched all with whom they came in contact.

Catherine supported the arts through groups like the Genesee Symphony Orchestra, where Larry was a violinist for many years. She attended many baseball games with him, a big baseball fan. Both of them served leadership roles in Scouting. She also baked hundreds of pies over the years as a contribution to the snack bar at Genesee Memorial Hospital as a member of the Hospital League.

Catherine also pursued a number of interests on her own. She was one of founders of the Landmark Society of Genesee County, working to preserve the legacy of the area. She belonged to many local history groups. She transcribed the diaries of Martin Curtis Tyler, a Civil War Veteran and contributed to the Stafford Town Museum. She started a summer program of swimming instruction for the Red Cross using volunteered backyard pools for 25 years, starting in 1971. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon and a trustee. The list of groups that she belonged to is remarkable. (See below.)

She took an active part in civic affairs. She was a member and chairman of the City Planning Board, the Architectural Review Board, and served on the City Council of Batavia as a Councilman at Large and as Council person for the First Ward. For 12 years she was a member of the SUNY Brockport College Council.

When Catherine and Larry lost their youngest son James in a car accident in 1991 caused by an elderly driver who had become confused, they responded by working to urge people to recognize when they should give up their car keys and make other arrangements.

Larry passed away in 2008; in 2015 Catherine made the decision at age 95 to move to the Albany area to be close to surviving family. Despite her age, she remained involved in trying to help others, knitting squares for blankets and making tray favors to brighten the days of veterans in the local VA hospital. To the end of her life she maintained a largely cheerful manner – although she reserved the right to be concerned over events. She remained an active voter up through the 2020 election.

Catherine is survived by a son, four grandchildren, one great grandson, and an array of nephews and nieces and their children.

  Elizabeth J. Reisdorf, 67, of Pavilion passed away on May 15, 2022 at the LeRoy Village Green. She was born on November 21, 1954 in Albany, NY to the late Robert and Elizabeth (Barth) Cox.  In addition to her parents, Elizabeth is predeceased by her brother Robert Cox; brother in law Edward Barnowski.

Elizabeth was in the private Agricultural Consultant business for many years. She worked for AGWAY in Batavia. Elizabeth loved anything that had to do with agriculture and was an avid outdoorswoman who loved traveling with her husband.

She is survived by her loving husband of 33 years; Stephan Reisdorf of Pavilion; sisters Leslie (Jeffrey) Hutchinson of Canandaigua and Cindy Barnowski of FL; sisters in law Donna (James) Flood of Clarence and Mary Ann (Michael) Sandgarten of TX., along with many nieces and nephews.

Jeannie L. Lyons, 58 of Attica, passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2022 at Buffalo General Hospital. She was born August 6, 1963 in Beacon, NY to the late Roger and Barbara (Ivison) Walker. Mrs. Lyons was an animal lover.

She is survived by her loving husband of 19 years, Bernard “Bernie” Lyons of Attica, children, Andrew (Danielle) McAnulty of Hamburg, Alisha McAnulty of Attica, Joshua Bauer of Batavia; siblings, Edward (Amy) Walker of Depew, Jennifer (Rob) Beck of Attica; 4 grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

  Deborah L. Swabb, 68, of Oakfield passed away on May 12, 2022 at Unity Hospital in Rochester. She was born on February 27, 1954 in Batavia to the late Elbert and Doris (Ostrowski) Ashton. In addition to her parents, Deborah is predeceased by her siblings; Leona (Ray) Benson, Elbert (Linda) Ashton Jr., Patricia (John) Morris.

Our mother always put us kids first growing up.  She was full of life and always cared for others.  Her family was a very important part of her life.  She loved joking around and would do puzzles in her spare time. She was the kind of women that would give you her shirt of her back. Anyone that knew her could always count on picking up the phone and having a great conversation with her, never a dual moment! She will be dearly missed by all that knew her. 

She is survived by her loving husband; John E. Batavia - Lucille Ann Prospero Caruso entered eternal Life on Sunday May 15th, 2022 at the LeRoy Village Green in LeRoy.

Friends and family called her by her nickname "Bonnie".

Lucille was born September 28, 1943 to the late Arthur and Susan Pastore Prospero.

Lucille was a cashier at Tops Market in Batavia for 35 years. She enjoyed reading, flower gardening, and trips to the Casino. She was a fan of the New York Yankees and the Green Bay Packers.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 59 years, Anthony P. Caruso, whom she married January 19, 1963; her three daughters, Frances Caruso of Florida, Carin Caruso (Peter Guppenberger) of Batavia and Mary Beth Suozzi of Batavia. Lucille also is survived by her 3 grandchildren that she truly loved; Alan-Anthony Fitzsimmons, Emily Fitzsimmons and Patrick Joseph Suozzi; her brother, Nicholas Prospero, Sr. and her granddog, Oli.

She is predeceased by her son-in-law, Patrick Suozzi and her brother, William "Bill" Prospero.

Sande L. Vincent, 46 of Enola, PA, entered into heaven to join her sister, Brandi Vincent on May 10, 2022, after a long battle with cancer.

Sande is survived by her Mother, Joyce (Lester) Pilc of Enola, PA and Father, Danny (Debbie) Vincent of Corfu, NY. She is also survived by her brother, Philip (Cammie) Pilc of North Tonawanda, NY, grandmother, Anna Balicki of Batavia, niece Sierra Booker, nephews Codie Cronk and Trevor Booker, along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Sande had many loves in her life, one her cuddle buddy Odie (cat) and had a special relationship with two little ladies - Alannah and Lyric.

Ron Ginter, a devoted servant of Christ, departed this world April 28, 2022 and entered his eternal home surrounded by loved ones at Baptist Medical Center, Jacksonville, Fl.  He was 88.

Ron was born on October 22, 1933 to William Ginter and Bertha (Klane) Ginter in Detroit, Michigan. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Bernadine (Hinkel) Ginter of Jacksonville, Florida; brother, Leland Ginter of Clarkston, Michigan; daughter, Linda (Lynn) Eick of Batavia; sons, the late Mark Ginter of Florida, Stephen (Tonya) Ginter of North Carolina, late daughter-in-law Ronda Ginter, William (Cathy) Ginter of St. Johns, Florida; Grandchildren; Matthew, Jennifer, Daniel, David Eick, Christa (Tyler) Evans, Mariah (Matt) Horton, Arriel Campbell, Chad Ginter, Joshua Terrell, Alicia Terrell. Ron graduated from Cass Technical High School, Detroit, Michigan. After serving his country in the US Air Force he followed his calling and received his diploma from Concordia Theological Seminary in Springfield, Illinois.

Congregations served by this faithful man of God;  Granville, Ohio, Christ Lutheran, Oil City, Pa. Luther Memorial, Blackwood, NJ, St. Paul Lutheran, Batavia, NY.

He penned Lord, I Believe, a weekly article published in the Batavia Daily News. 

After “retiring” in 1995 he continued serving as a visiting or interim minister in St. Matthew, Rochester, NY, Faith Lutheran, Elma, NY, Concordia (Hope) Brockport, NY, Trinity Lutheran, Spencerport, NY, St. John, Hamlin, NY, St. Luke, Cheektowaga, NY, First Trinity, Tonawanda, NY, St. Johns, Farmington, NY. Despite suffering a stroke while on vacation in Florida he continued to serve his Lord by preaching the Gospel. He held Bible Class and Worship Services in the Senior Living Community of Calusa Harbor, Fort Myers and Brookdale Southside, Jacksonville, Fl. up until the week he left this life. 

“The ultimate last in life is eternity in heaven, God grant us all the grace in Christ Jesus to focus on the ultimate last, the day when we hear the Good Shepherd Say: Come, O blessed of my Father, and inherit the Kingdom prepared for you.” Quote from Lord, I Believe, by Rev. Ginter.

Riga - Kim Maureen McGiveron, 60, of Riga, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday (May 11, 2022) at her home.

She was born June 23, 1961 in Batavia, a daughter of Ronald and Mary Jane (Dillon) Heywood of East Bethany.

Kim was a graduate of Pavilion Central School, GCC, and she earned her bachelor's degree at Brockport State College. She was a bookkeeper for several local businesses, and an employee of Lenape.

She was a member and dedicated Deacon and Elder of the East Bethany Presbyterian Church, and also attended the Congregational Church of Riga. Kim was a loving, kind, thoughtful, giving person who always put others first; she will be sadly missed. We have lost a very bright light in our family, but she'll shine brightly in Heaven.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her fiance, Jerry Clark of Riga; daughter Danielle (Timothy) Dosch of Florida; son, Shawn McGiveron of Warsaw; grandchildren, McKenzie and Savannah; brothers, Doug (Peg) Heywood of East Bethany, and Richard (Melissa) Heywood of Tennessee; sisters, Bonnie (Ken) Morgan of Tennessee, and Linda (Randy) Page of Batavia. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews also survive.

Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street in Batavia. Kim's funeral service will be held on Monday (May 16) at 11 a.m. at the East Bethany Presbyterian Church, 5735 Ellicott Street Road in East Bethany.   Gerard A Cote, age 77, of Attica passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at the NY State Veterans Home in Batavia NY. Gerard was born on May 26, 1944 in Manchester NH to the late Arthur J and Germaine Desfosses Cote. He is predeceased by his wife Jacqueline Kingston Cote, his brother Ronald W Cote, his daughter Tasha Sergel and granddaughter Cassidy Garrow. 

He was a graduate of Manchester High School Central class of 1962. He served in the US Air Force during Vietnam from 1962 to 1966 as a jet aircraft mechanic. He earned his BS in Business Administration from the University of Lowell in Lowell MA in 1977. He retired from The Attica Correctional Facility in 2004 where he had worked for 20+ years. He had worked for Bluebird Bus Co. as a coach driver, Kollsman Instrument Co. in Merrimack NH as a Sr Engineering Planner and for Sanders Associates Inc in Nashua NH as a Material Planner. 

Gerard was a member of The American Legion Post 734 in Attica. He was also a member of the Attica Rod & Gun Club.

Gerard is survived by his children Piper (Dana) Sharick of Corfu , Melissa (Richard) Blake of NH , Sarah ( Danny) Hall of NC , Cheri Ruck of Attica, Bobby Maples of TN , Julie Maples of Attica , Thomas  (Lisa) Doucette of AR, Robin Doucette of MA and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Friends are invited to call on Monday, May 16, 2022 from 4 to 7 pm at Marley Funeral Home, LLC. 135 Main Street, Attica, NY 14011. A 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at Sts. Joachim & Anne Parish, 50 East Ave, Attica, NY 14011. He will be laid to rest in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Jean L. Jackson, 91 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Friday (May 6, 2022) at The Grand Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born May 22, 1930 in Buffalo, NY, a daughter of the late Fred and Henrietta Huber Ebert.

Jean was a former social worker for Genesee Memorial Hospital, St. Jerome Hospital and Hospice. She also served on the Board of Directors for Crossroads House, which was very dear to her. She enjoyed swimming, talking books, gardening and her guiding eyes dogs. Jean will be missed by all who knew her gentle heart.

Survivors include a son and daughter in-law. Craig (Loretta) Jackson of Batavia. Grandchildren, Ashley Fauth of Batavia and Dennis (Jennifer) Alexander of South Carolina. Great-grandson, Derek. Nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Arlene Nuwer.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
