The much loved Salvatore V. “Sam” Cintorino, 96 of Batavia, passed away on July 12, 2013 at the New York State Veterans Home @ Batavia. He was born on November 8, 1916 in Brooklyn to the late Antonio (Antonia Riso) Cintorino of Palermo, Italy was one of seven brothers and one sister-all deceased except for Ralph of Batavia. During the great depression as a high school senior Salvatore joined the government sponsored CC Work Camp to cut down redwoods in Washington State. He fought as an amateur light-weight boxer Sal “Sammy Divine” won at least 5 Golden-Gloves recognized by the Rochester Boxing Hall of Fame. Sam is a WWII Army Veteran that fought in Europe and was a Purple Heart recipient along with many other honors. He was a longtime employee of Doehler Jarvis and Batavia Downs. He loved to entertain family and friends with his harmonica, hobbied as an artisan woodmaker and was a card playing member of the St. Nicholas Social Club. He loved golfing and Dunkin Donuts. “We love you much dad (Bapa)”.

Salvatore is survived by his loving wife Angeline (Suozzi) Cintorino of Batavia; daughter Maria Kinsella of CT; two sons Salvatore Dominic (Margaret) of VT; David (Nancy) of VA; 5 grandchildren Julie and Kristine Kinsella; Jason (Jessica) Cintorino; Keaton and Lucas Cintorino; two great-grandchildren Maya and Dominic Cintorino; along with many nieces and nephews.

Age 40, of Batavia, died suddenly Monday July 8, 2013 in Rochester, NY from injuries he sustained in a motor vehicle accident while at work. He was born May 30, 1973 in Jacksonville, FL a son of Terry Wetmore of Pembroke and Nancy (Toal) (Dan) Gannon of Charleston, SC.

Shawn was employed by Tompkins Metal Finishing of Batavia. He was a self taught mechanic and enjoyed working on cars, action movies, especially The Fast & Furious series, swimming, his cats and daytrips taken with his wife. Shawn's faith and his family were most important along with time spent with his children.

Surviving along with his parents; his loving wife whom he married August 29, 2010, Melissa (Judd) Wetmore of Batavia; daughter, Lynsey Wetmore of Batavia and son, Alex Wetmore of Buffalo; step-children, Nicholas, Christopher Clark and Ryan Burdick all of Corfu; step-sister, Crista (Justin) Stimson of Pembroke; father-in-law, Raymond (late Lucille) Judd of East Pembroke; special aunt, Barbara Toal; uncle, Larry (Patti) Toal along with their children, Brianne & Ryan Toal; a niece and many friends.

Visitation will be 4-8 PM on Tuesday July 16, 2013 at the Michael S. Tomaszewski Funeral & Cremation Chapel, LLC 4120 West Main Street Road Batavia, New York 14020 where a Celebration of Shawn's Life will take place 11:00 AM Wednesday July 17. Judy L. Ables, 66 of Batavia, died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on July 4, 2013. She was born December 19, 1946 in Dallas, TX to the late Ralph (Ruth) Ishmael. Mrs. Ables worked for many years at Fisher Price Toys in Medina. She loved doing yard work, flowers, pulling pranks and making friends but most of all spending time with her family. 

She is survived by her son Richard (Tamara) Ishmael of Batavia; best friend Arlene Chiarolanza of Batavia; granddaughters Amber of Albion, Crystal Ishmael of Batavia; step-grandchildren Sabrina, Kayla, Nicholas Twardowski of Batavia; Corporal Jacob Twardowski (US Army) of Fort Bliss, TX; brother Eddie (Judy) Ishmael of TX.

Age 71, of Batavia, died peacefully Wednesday morning July 3, 2013 at the Batavia Healthcare Center. He was born May 1, 1942 in Batavia to the late Thomas R. & Ruth E. (Brown) Galliford also preceded in death by brothers, Thomas and William Galliford.

   David was a self-employed tin man for many years and enjoyed fishing and dirt track racing.

   Surviving are his loving sisters, Joan (Bernard) Pangrazio of Elba, Susan (Gaylord) Cayea of Batavia and Nancy Szymaski of Holley; sisters-in-law, Gwen Galliford of Bergen and Sandy Galliford of CT along with many nieces and nephews.

   There is no prior visitation and services will be held privately by his family with burial in Mt. Rest Cemetery, Bergen.

Age 46, of Albion, NY died Monday afternoon July 1, 2013 at Highland Hospital, after a long illness. She was born September 6, 1966 in Albion, NY to Edward Stymus and the late Esther (Johnson).

   Arlene graduated from Albion High School in 1984 and shortly after moved to Michigan with her husband where they lived and worked for nine years. Upon returning to the Barre Center area, Arlene worked for Keeler Construction and enjoyed assisting on the family farm and being with family. She also enjoyed making many types of crafts and selling them at the Canal Country Artisans        

   Surviving is her husband whom she married January 18, 1986, Chris Dunn of Albion; loving sons, Ryan and Adam; brother, Dennis of Albion; mother-in-law, Joan Vaughn; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

   Arlene's wishes were to have services and interment held privately by her family. Memorial's in her memory are suggested to Hospice of Orleans, PO Box 489 Albion, New York 14411.

Iva Crassi, 92 of Batavia, passed away Tuesday July 2, 2013 at the Genesee County Nursing Home. She was born September 23, 1920 in Olean to the late Norman C. (Bernice A. Perry) Bowen. Mrs. Crassi worked at Genesee Memorial Hospital, GTE Sylvania and Cadet Cleaners all in Batavia. She is preceded in death by her husband Carmelo Crassi in 1997, brother Clarence Bowen, sisters Frances Ecklund and Margaret Bowen.   

She is survived by her children Carlene (Russell Betters) Cadieux of Oakfield; Roger (Elizabeth) Crassi of Clarence; Charles (Maryanne) Crassi of Spencerport; 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.   

There will be no prior calling hours. Funeral Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Bath National Cemetery.

Byron - Beatrice M. Chapell, 86, of Byron, an employee of Bausch & Lomb, prior to her retirement, passed away Tuesday, (July 2, 2013) at Unity Health System, in Rochester, following a brief illness.

Mrs. Chapell was born August 5, 1926 in Pavilion, a daughter of the late Howard and Minnie (Sandles) Youngs.

Beatrice was an extremely giving, caring and easy going person who would help anyone she could.  She loved to play cards, especially Gripe, and she had a fondness for hummingbirds.  She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother.

She is the wife of the late Roy Chapell who passed away on 2008.

Surviving are her daughter, Nancy (Jospeh) Fiorito of Byron and Palmetto, FL; three grandchildren, Gregory (Barb) Totten of Batavia, Amy (Ed) Easton of VA, and Anthony (Lindsey) Fiorito of Churchville; a sister, Gladys (late Weldon) Hilchey of Batavia.  Many great-grandchildren also survive.

Beatrice is preceded in death by a son, David Chapell, a daughter, Donna (late Ray) Totten, and a sister, Doris (late Paul) Niebch.

Friends may call on Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Mary E. Bolenda, 91 of Batavia passed away July 1, 2013 at the United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. She was born January 26, 1922 in Batavia to the late Harry (Margaret Halpin) Boucher. Mrs. Bolenda graduated from Batavia High School in 1939, and from Rochester Business Institute in 1940. She was employed at Genesee Monroe Racing Association for 35 years retiring in 1987 as office manager. She was very active having been a member for 62 years in the Catholic Daughters of America, Bereavement Committee of Resurrection Parish, St. Jerome Guild, Catholic Charities Drives, Batavia Business and Professional Women, Elections Inspector and a Republican Committee Member for the Town of Stafford. She bowled for a number of years on the Batavia Downs Bowling Team. She is preceded in death by her husband Alfonso Bolenda who she married on January 26, 1948 at St. Mary’s Church; sisters Harriett Hunt and Catherine Conklin.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Nellie M. Baker age 89 formerly of Perry,NY died Saturday morning June 29, 2013 at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, N.C.  She was born in Avon, NY on March 21, 1924, daughter of the late Stewart (Ethel) McMaster. Nellie was self-employed doing housekeeping for many homes in the area.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Perry and attended Center United Methodist in Concord, N.C. She helped out with various church activities, she also enjoyed watching golf and racing. She is preceded in death by 2 brothers Eugene & John McMaster, 2 Stepsisters Ruth Wheaton and Florence Fleishman and Foster brother Ralph Jenks.

Loving mother of Virgina "Ginny" (Charles) Toor of Barefoot Bay, Fla. and Sharon "Sherry" (Douglas) Hewitt of Concord, NC.  A sister Hazel Pate of Southern Pines, NC, Foster brother Duane (Ann) Jenks of Simpsonville SC along with 7 Grandchildren 21 Great grandchildren 1 Great Great Grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

Joseph P. Doman Sr. 80 of Batavia died Thursday June 27, 2013 in Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, NY. He was born March 22, 1933 in Cleveland Ohio to the late John M. and Mary Potts Doman.  Mr. Doman was a Sales Engineer for many years with Mollenberg Betz Inc. He was a graduate of Cathedral Latin High School and John Carroll University, member of Resurrection Parish, and a former member of Stafford Country Club. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. Joe was an avid sportsman who loved the outdoors and hunting. He was a member of the Parker Double Barrel Gun Association. He is preceded in death by a brother John Doman and sisters Mary Ann Alton, Kathryn Porter, Dorothy Berlin and Helen Stubnar.  

Joe is survived by his children Joseph (Marianne) Doman Jr. of Ohio, Mark (Dorothy) Doman of Pennsylvania, Susan (Kevin) Sluyter of Indiana, Margaret (Stephen) Clarke of Missouri, and Paul (Susannah) Doman of Ohio. A sister in law Christina Doman of Ohio, a dear friend of 30 years Donna Forrester of Illinois survive along with 11 grandchildren, a special nephew Jeff Porter of Ohio and numerous nieces and nephews.

Batavia - Dominic J. “Dolly” Marone, 83, of Batavia, passed away Friday, (June 28, 2013) at the New York State Veteran's Home, in Batavia, following a brief illness.

Mr. Marone was born March 18, 1930 in Batavia, a son of the late Emiel Sr. and Rose (VanDetta) Marone.

He served his country honorably with the Army during the Korean War.  He was a long time member of the former St. Anthony’s Church in Batavia and will be remembered as a kind, honest, compassionate man.

Dom is survived by his siblings, Paul (Esther) Marone of Batavia; John (Jane) Marone of Lancaster, and Geraldine (late George) Rowcliffe of Brooksville, FL.  Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Mr. Marone is preceded in death by his brother, Emil Marone, Jr; and sisters, Concetta (late Lawrence and James) Merritt-White, Marie (late Donald and Gaines) Rollins-Starling, and Angeline Marone.

There will be no prior visitation.  A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday (July 1, 2013) at St. Mary’s Church, 18 Ellicott Street, Batavia.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation in Dominic’s name to the NYS Veteran's Home - Activities Fund, 220 Richmond Avenue, Batavia, NY 14020.  Burial, with military honors, will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Batavia.  Arrangements were entrusted to the H.E. Owen C. Smith 93 of Batavia died Thursday June 27, 2013, in United Memorial Medical Center, Batavia. He was born September 30, 1919 in Florida to the late James and Laura (Suggs) Smith.   Mr. Smith was a retired Carpenter with Local #280 out of Lockport where he worked for over 50 years. He was an Army Veteran of WWII, a member of the Batavia American Legion and a member of The United Pentecostal Church in Batavia.  Mr. Smith was an avid CB radio enthusiast and bingo player. He loved spending his time with his family and friends and having coffee at Dunkin Donuts. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Florence A. (Del Re) Smith who died in 2003,  1 brother and 3 sisters  Arthur Smith, Willa Mae North, Mary Williams and Lorraine Williams.

He is survived by his 3 loving children JoAnn (William) Mac Cowan of Batavia, Owen D. (Marilyn) Smith of Elba and Robert B. (Renee) Smith of Batavia.  He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.

Bergen / LeRoy ~ John W. Conlon, age 89, of South Lake Avenue, died early Thursday morning (June 27, 2013) at the VA Medical Center in Batavia.

     Mr. Conlon was born March 18, 1924 in Bergen, N.Y., a son of the late Raymond W. Conlon and Mary Mahar.

     Mr. Conlon was a very proud WW II veteran, having served with the U. S. Marines.

     He is survived by a son, a daughter, 4 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and his devoted companion of 31 years, Karol Rumney of Bergen.

Batavia / LeRoy ~ Joseph A. Antinore, age 79, of Prospect Avenue, passed away late Tuesday afternoon (June 25, 2013) at home in the loving presence of his family after a long illness.

     Mr. Antinore was born August 19, 1933 in LeRoy, a son of the late Anthony and Carrie Vangalio Antinore.

     He served briefly with the U. S. Air Force and went on to become a self-employed barber in Churchville and LeRoy and later in life, provided transportation for developmentally challenged children and adults, first through his own bus service, then through the ARC of Livingston-Wyoming/Hilltop Industries in Mt. Morris.

     Mr. Antinore is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Lillian Cherchio Antinore, his children; Laurie (Larry) Carlson of Brighton, MI, Nancy (Joseph) Szymanski of LeRoy, Joanne (Joseph) Dermady of Irondequoit, Anthony Antinore of Batavia and Carol (Susan Schinaman) Antinore of Brighton, NY; his sister, Karen (Milton) Ebersold of LeRoy; four grandchildren, Kimberly Antinore, Angela (Cole) Farner, Luke Carlson and Katherine Dermady; two great-grandchildren, Jack and Mason Farner, along with many nieces and nephews.

     Family was always Joe’s first priority…his pride and his joy.  He passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family. 

     The family would like to thank the caregivers at the Wilmot Cancer Center and Homecare & Hospice, and a special thank you to Jan (Loftus) Palenski for all your loving care and support.

Stephen Hamilton Carr, 65, of LeRoy, NY died suddenly Friday, June 21st 2013. Son of the late Robert Wickham and Lucile Hamilton Carr, he succeeded his father and grandfather Claude Leland as President of the C.L. Carr Co., which opened in 1915 as Batavia’s Main Street Department Store.

He made lifelong friends attending grammar school in Batavia and while in secondary school at Ridley College in St. Catherine's Ontario. He then studied History at Syracuse University until his studies were interrupted by his service in the 101st Airborne Division “Screaming Eagles,” U.S. Army, during the Vietnam War. Upon returning from his tour of duty he completed his Bachelors degree and came home to join the family business.

He was an active member of Rotary for over 35 years, a board member in 2011 and has the distinction of being named a Paul Harris Fellow. He served as a cast member noted for his enthusiastic singing in countless Rotary productions, and when not onstage could be found working as part of the stage crew. Stephen served on multiple boards in the community, including a longstanding seat he held on the I.D.A., now the GCEDA, and the Salvation Army. He was also a member of the Batavia Club and Stafford Country Club for many years.

He enjoyed many things, especially swing dancing, biking, and swimming, and died doing what he loved. Stephen was predeceased by his mother and father, his sister Patricia Carr Atwater and niece Martha Carr Atwater.

He is survived by his wife Anne Elizabeth Collier Carr, sons Benjamin H. C. Carr and Theodore M. R. Carr, sister-in-law Casey Collier Lambert, brother-in-law Julian Atwater and numerous nieces and nephews. Above all Stephen will be remembered for the warmth of his spirit and good nature.
