  Steven H. Duckworth, 70, of Dunkirk passed away on October 5, 2022 at UPMC Hamot in Erie, PA. He was born on January 14, 1952 in Batavia to the late Howard and Elsie (Humel) Duckworth. In addition to his parents, Steven is predeceased by his loving wife of 36 years; Linda (Lord) Duckworth; and brother Richard Duckworth.

Steven was known as “The Shack Man” as he worked and ran RadioShack in Dunkirk for over 20 years. He was also a professional guitarist for a living for many years playing in multiple bands in his career including Gypsy, Citizen Band, Rick Haitz Trio and Striker. Playing his guitar and spending time with his family at their family cottage on Black Lake were paramount.

Steven is survived by his children; Steven (Emily) Duckworth of West Seneca, NY, Taylor (Austin McCool) Duckworth of Dunkirk, Melissa (John) Ladd of Batavia and Jaime (Eric) Koziarski of Batavia; grandchildren Mason Turner, Jessie Leone, Lieutenant Gage Burton, Dillion (Andrea) Beverly, Megan Ladd, Zacheriah Smith and Alyce Smith; 2 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

Batavia - Matthew  D.  Yoder, 25, of Batavia, passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at his home while under the care of HomeCare & Hospice.

Matt was born on May 29, 1997 in Batavia, a son of David S. Yoder and Kathleen Yunker Yoder of Batavia.

Matt was a graduate of Pembroke High School and was studying game simulation and science at Rensselear Polytechnic Institute in Troy. He was active in martial arts earning his 2nd degree black belt from Refuse 2 Lose Martial Arts in Batavia. Matt loved books, movies and listening to music on his vinyl record collection.

Surviving with his parents are his sister, Anna Yoder of Batavia; grandparents, Jerome D. (JoAnn) Yoder of Batavia and Richard (Late Mary Lucille) Yunker of Oakfield; his aunt, Kristin Yunker of Oakfield; his uncle, Jerome S. (Gwen) Yoder of Darien; and his cousins, Nicholas and Zachary Yoder.

LeRoy ~ Lisa M. Cimetta, age 65, of Genesee Street, passed away at home on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2022. She is survived by her two children; Elizabeth Cimetta of Rochester and Nicholas Bowden of Buffalo.

Judith E. Kolmetz, 84, of Bergen, passed away on September 20, 2022 at The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Batavia.

Judy was born August 5, 1938 in Rochester, a daughter of the late Samuel and Winifred (Smith) Wiant.

Judy was a member of Our Lady of Mercy/St. Brigid's Parish and the Bergen Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.  She enjoyed gardening and crafts.  Judy worked at Bausch & Lomb in the customer service department.

Surviving are her sons, Walter (Lisa) Kolmetz of Florida, Robert (Judith) Kolmetz of Williamsville, Mark Kolmetz of Bergen and Scott (Carolynn) Kolmetz of Rochester; a sister, Carol Manzek of Florida; twelve grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her husband, Michael Kolmetz and brother, Carl Wiant.

There are no prior calling hours.  Judith's Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 8 at Our Lady of Mercy/St. Brigid's Church, 18 Gibson Street, Bergen.

On September 30, 2022 at age 86, Nancy Baker completed her journey home with the help of Hospice surrounded with love by her family and accompanied by the thoughts and prayers of family and friends.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, a son-in-law, and a grandson.

   

  Nancy is leaving behind her husband of 65 years, Bruce, their 6 children and their spouses, 20 grandchildren and their spouses, and 17 great grandchildren.

     The Bakers moved to LeRoy NY in 1963 where, with Nancy’s help and guidance, Bruce opened his Family Practice. Over the next fifty plus years Nancy embedded herself into the fabric of LeRoy. Her many activities included School Board president: Woodward Memorial Library Board, numerous Village, Town, and County committees, an extensive history of volunteerism, and as an involved member of St Mark’s Church. As important as LeRoy was to Nancy, her biggest commitment was to her family and friends.

     In 2019 they moved to St John’s Brickstone Active Senior Community in Brighton, NY, bringing part of LeRoy with them and leaving part of themselves in LeRoy.

Anthony Martino, age 74, of Salem, Wisconsin, died on September 21, 2022, in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin.

Son of the late Generoso and Angeline (DiFiore) Martino, Tony was born on November 10, 1947, in Batavia, along with his triplet brother and sister.

Tony grew up in New York, one of seven children. In 1967, he enlisted in the United States Navy, earning the National Defense Service Medal. He served honorably until 1971, and remained heavily involved in veterans’ affairs for the remainder of his life. He held many positions with the Disabled American Veterans over his 50 years as a member, giving over 20,000 volunteer hours to the organization. He was a VA chaplain for 12 years, and worked with the VA as a case worker.

On September 7, 1968, Tony was united in marriage with Carole Johnson in Franklin Park, Illinois. Tony and Carole shared 54 years of marriage together and raised three children. Family was of paramount importance to Tony, and he delighted in providing for his family and helping them succeed. Tony became a deacon in 1984, and served at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Twin Lakes, Wisconsin for ten years, and at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pell Lake, Wisconsin for six years. In his free time, Tony enjoyed watching football—especially the Buffalo Bills and the Chicago Bears, and taking trips to the Potawatomi Casino to play cards. Tony was a welcoming and generous man who will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

Tony is survived by his wife, Carole Martino; children, Tom (Sonja) Martino of Watertown, Wisonsin, Jason (Cheryl) Martino of Loxahatchee, Florida, and Michele Martino of Racine, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Matt Martino, Aron Valadez, Samantha Moldenhauer, Arionna Simmons, Aliyah Simmons, Braydon Martino, Asiah Jones, and Oliviannah Spivey; and sisters, Linda (Charlie) Cheavacci of Akron, and Mary Martino of Cheektowaga.

In death he is reunited with his parents, Generoso and Angeline Martino; grandparents, Anthony and Mama DiFiore; brothers, Jerry Martino and Gino Martino; and sisters, Irene Merraro and Joan Buechi.

Sebastian, FL and Oakfield- James R. “Jimmy” Clor, has taken his final flight on Wednesday, September 28, 2022. He was 75.

James was born on December 30, 1946. The loving son of Loren “Bud” (Ileen) Clor and Marie (Herbert) Lamkin.

He was adventurous and charismatic from a very young age. While working at the family business, Clor’s Meat Market, he and his friends also undertook training, from his father, to be pilots. Through dedication and hard work Jimmy completed his first solo flight on his 16th birthday. He was a graduate of Batavia High School and soon after he ran off to North Carolina to marry the love of his life, Norma Post. Jimmy spent his career flying airplanes. He has flown many private flights, the governor, and air ambulance transportation for organ transplants. Jimmy lived in Oakfield from 1971 until his retirement in 2004 when he moved to Sebastian, FL.

He was a prominent businessman in both Sebastian and Batavia. Jimmy successfully owned and operated C R Auto Sales and later a small business called “U Buy it” selling cars, jet skis, and so much more. He was a salesman at heart, selling over 1000 cars in his life; he especially loved Corvettes.

Jimmy loved his shiatzus, Sammy and Mary Jo. He spent his days boating, watching the Buffalo Bills, and stopping by every “watering hole” in Sebastian, along Florida coast, for a Budweiser. He cherished spending time with his family and friends, living every moment to the fullest.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Norma (Post) Clor; children, David J. (Denise) Clor, Ronald “Ronny” Clor, and Michael (Terri) Clor; Siblings, Sandra (Neil) Weinberg, Patty (Scott Hetherman) Benson, Scott Lamkin, Dough Lamkin, Steve Lamkin, Debra Rider, and Pam Rush; 5 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his father, Loren “Bud” Clor; Stepfather, Herbert Lamkin; brothers, Daniel Lamkin and David Clor.

Honoring Jimmy’s request, there will be a private service for the family in Sebastian, FL.

Jimmy was loved was by all and will be missed by all.

RICHARD HAMILTON WHITE passed away at his home in Northampton, Massachusetts on Monday, September 26, 2022, at the age of 88. Husband, father, artist, scientist, teacher, Dick was born on February 16, 1934, in Rochester NY to Edith and George Lynn White.

Dick’s intellectual curiosity began early in life. He attended public schools in Batavia, New York. He loved the school library and the Carnegie Library near his home. As high school senior, he had the top SAT score in western NY and gained free tuition to the University of Rochester receiving a BS in Biology. A gifted artist from childhood, Dick then attended the Albright-Knox School at the University of Buffalo for one year studying Studio Art. While he went on to become a scientist, he cultivated his love of art and art history throughout his life. He attended Washington University, St. Louis receiving a PhD in Zoology. Dick received a National Institutes of Health (NIH) Postdoctoral fellowship in Biology at the University of Virginia. He served as a faculty member at Purdue University. He was a NIH fellow at Harvard University.

In 1970, he joined the faculty at the University of Massachusetts Boston. He taught animal physiology, molecular biology, and genetics. Over the years, he welcomed many advanced undergraduates and graduate students into his research laboratory. With a colleague, he established a National Science Foundation supported research program. Their work was published in prestigious scientific journals. In recent years, he was pleased to learn that some of their publications from many years ago retained some pertinence, having received comments and queries from graduate students working on aspects of insect vision and visual ecology. Upon retirement, he was awarded the title of professor emeritus and a post-retirement research professor designation.

In retirement, he returned to painting, creating large outdoor sculptures, and working in mixed media. He enjoyed traveling, reading the NY Times and favorite literary works, and listening to music. He loved opera, classical music, and jazz.

He was a loving and supportive companion to his wife, and as a devoted father, he was life-long teacher and inspiration to his children. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sally, his daughter Diane (Joe), son James (Jennifer), granddaughter Lauren, and daughter Erica (Mark). He is predeceased by his parents and his brother Craig (Margie). A private celebration of his life is planned for the spring of 2023. Bergen- Mrs. Jennie “Busia” Starowitz, of Bergen, died on September 28, 2022. 

Mrs. Starowitz was born on January 26, 1926 in Alexander, NY, daughter of Kazmir and Veronica (Piasecki) Dempski. 

Her husband, Stephen C. Starowitz, a retired farm operator, died October 20, 1998.

She was a member of St. Brigid Church of Bergen.  Jennie was a long-time member of the Cornell Cooperative Extension, a 4-H Leader, and a Genesee County Fair judge. She enjoyed teaching young 4-H’ers sewing, cooking, tatting, crafts, crocheting and knitting.  In 2004 Jennie was “recognized by the Board of Directors of Genesee County as 2004 Friend of Extension for her many years of dedicated service to the 4-H program of Genesee County”.  Mrs. Starowitz also made many quilts for the Pediatric Unit of Strong Memorial Hospital.  She was a demonstrator/supervisor of Dutchmaid Fashions for 24 years, worked for the Prudential Insurance Company of Batavia for 4 years and was manager of Bergen Meadows Apartments for 8 years.  Jennie was a volunteer for the American Red Cross Disaster Services, Blood and Flu Clinic Services and also the Tour/Information Booth in Batavia.  She was a Charter and Lifetime Member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the South Byron Fire Department and served on the advisory council of the Office for the Aging.  Jennie was responsible for helping start a club for the Seniors of St. Brigid Church known as the “Recycled Teens”. 

Survivors include four sons, Stephen (Diane) Starowitz of Byron, David (Gayla) Starowitz of Byron, Thomas (Terri) Starowitz of Stafford and Michael (Joann) Starowitz of Bergen; a daughter, Susan-Marie Williams of Houston, Texas.  She also has 11 grandchildren, Jeffrey Starowitz, Cathy (Michael) Parsons, James (Sherry) Starowitz, Shawna (Josh) Dorman, Jenna (Colby) Ayres, Emily (Brian) Hirsch, Cori (Patrick) Zinter, Christopher (Krystal) Starowitz, Stephanie (Duane) Ruppert, Kaitlyn (Paul) Chmielowiec and Matthew (Amy) Starowitz.  Jennie has been blessed with 27 great grandchildren.  Also surviving is her sister, Stephanie Mazurek of Alabama; sister-in-law, Antoinette Dempski of Alexander and several nieces and nephews. 

She was the mother of the late George H. Starowitz and sister of the late Stanley, Joseph, Edward and Andrew Dempski.

Faye Ellen Amberger, 82 of Attica, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2022 at her son’s home in Pavilion. She was born May 19, 1941 in Attica, to the late Edward Schmidt and Bertha (Jones) Schmidt. She is preceded in death by her late beloved husband, John “Jack” Amberger Sr. of Attica, brothers Bud Schmidt, Jack Schmidt, and George Schmidt, all of Attica, and sister Sally VanBuren of Warsaw.

She is survived by her children Ronald Amberger of Rochester, and John (Jeannie Kirsch) Amberger Jr. of Pavilion, grandchildren Evan and Shea Amberger of Pavilion and sisters-in-law Catherine “Midge” Ball of Warsaw, Ruth Newton of Batavia, Fern and Helene Schmidt of Attica, along with several nieces and nephews.

Faye was a lifetime resident of Attica, born in her parent’s home, living in the village, and working as a bank teller at the age of 17. Until she retired from the “new” bank up the street, then known as the Marine Midland. In 1967 the love of her life built their Dream Home just outside the village, staying in the township, where they spent the rest of their lives together. She loved watching and feeding the birds, and wild rabbits in the winter. She loved puzzles and in later years, many trips to the casino.

There will be a spring time service held at her final resting place at Forest Hill Cemetery in Attica.

  Marilyn J. Riley, age 79 of Rochester, NY formerly of Perry passed away on Sunday September 25, 2022 at Rochester General Hospital. She was born on September 26, 1942 in Warsaw, NY a daughter to the late Roy and Merle (Rutherford) Handy. Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Raymond E. Riley who passed away in 2013 and a brother: Donald Handy.

Marilyn was a 1960 graduate of Perry Central High School. She was a cashier for the former Star Market in Perry. Marilyn loved to do crafts and work on her gardens.

She is survived by 2 daughters: Tammy (Rob) Shaw of Webster, Shelley (Dan) Elzer of Longwood, Fl., 1 son: Jeffrey (Cheryl) Riley of Orlando, Fl., 4 sisters: Reba (Rich) Baker of Bradenton, Fl., Millie (Bob) Gaylord of Stafford, Mary Babcock of Pavilion, Donna (Rick) Rekkerth of Scottsville, 2 brothers: Ronald (Sue) Handy of Apopka, Fl., William Handy of Costa Rica, 5 grandchildren: Joshua (Heather) Leader, Nathan (Kristen) Leader, Megan (Matthew) Bishop, Kristen (Adrian Pardo) Shaw, and Adam (Nicole) Riley, 10 great grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

Oakfield - William I. Morris "Bill", 77  of Oakfield,  passed away peacefully on Monday, September 26, 2022 at Orchard Rehab and Nursing Center in Medina.

Mr. Morris was born February 4, 1945 in Batavia, the son of the late Henry and Frances (Distler) Morris.

He was a long time member of the Oakfield United Methodist Church and a former member of the Genesee Sno-Packers and the Oakfield-Alabama Lions Club. Bill enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, fishing with his grandchildren, and working with his hands. Skilled in woodcraft he volunteered on restoring the Medina Rail Road Museum and was a tinkerer at heart. Bill was not a perfectionist but could fix anything the "Morris Way". Bill worked for over 30 years at Kodak and following his retirement worked for several years at RIT. He was proud to hold 9 patents.

Bill Leaves behind a loving wife, Karen (Johnson) Morris; children, Wendy (James) Mountain of Clarence and Michael (Lynnette) Morris of Oakfield; grandchildren Ethan Mountain, Carter Mountain, and Garrett Morris; along with several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his sisters Bethley McKinney and Joan (late Henry “Bud”) Manzler.

LeRoy ~ Amy Rebecca Sellhorst, age 37, passed away Wednesday morning (Sept. 28, 2022) at Strong Memorial Hospital in the loving presence of her family.

   

  She was born September 13, 1985 in Batavia, a daughter of Allen Sellhorst and Sandra Makosy Sellhorst.

     Amy will be remembered as a loving mother, daughter, sister, niece and dear friend.  She was a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology, loved to cook and enjoyed writing and hosting and entertaining for her family and friends.  Amy also had a deep love for animals and rescued many cats and dogs from shelters.

     In addition to her parents, Allen and Sandra, Amy is survived by her son, Aiden Dyer and daughter, Stevie Rebecca Panek; sister, Heather Sellhorst; boyfriend, Dan Panek, along with many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

  William G. Emerson, 88, of Byron passed away on September 27, 2022 at Crossroads House in Batavia. He was born on December 31, 1933 in Nanty-Glo, Pennsylvania to the late Thomas and Goldie Mae Bracken. William is predeceased by his wife; Barbara (Foreman) Emerson; daughter Linda Grimes; son William “Billy” Emerson; his aunt Jean Connah, who raised him; brothers Steve, Jack, Tom and David Emerson.    

Bill was a United States Army veteran. He worked as a pipe fitter at Kodak for many years. He loved hunting and fishing, feeding Blue Jays and napping on the porch. Bill enjoyed watching The Price is Right, reading autobiographies and listening to the local radio. He was a devoted member of the Byron Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his son; Dale Emerson; grandchildren Mike (LeAnn) Emerson, Greg (Sarah) Emerson, Jessica (Nick) Gregori and Sara Emerson; great-grandchildren Aubrey, Lillian, Lianna, Kayla, Addison, Avery and Benson; great-great-grandson Andre, along with many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to call on Monday October 3, 2022 from 10:00-11:00AM at Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc. 329-333 West Main Street Batavia, New York 14020. An 11:00AM Funeral Service will immediately follow visitation at the Funeral Home. Bill will be laid to rest in Byron Cemetery.
