Demolished mobile home reportedly on fire in Bethany

A mobile home that was torn down is now reportedly on fire at Clipknock Road and Torrey Road, Bethany.

There is no exposure to other structures.

Bethany Fire and Stafford Fire dispatched.

UPDATE 11:34 p.m.: A first responder reports no smoke or fire. "The trailer is completely gone. There's a dumpster. There's no fire at all."  Both assignments can go back in service.  The "fire" was reported by a passerby.

UPDATE 11:42 p.m.: Now Bethany and Stafford are dispatched to 9525 Clipknock Road for the report of an unattended controlled burn, a brush fire.

Lithium battery blamed for small fire at Red Roof Inn, one minor injury reported

A lithium battery is the likely cause of a small fire in a hotel room at the Red Roof Inn on Park Road in Batavia, according to a release from the Town of Batavia Fire Department.

The town was dispatched on an alarm of fire at 9:30 p.m., Wednesday, and hotel staff confirmed a short time later that there was a fire in a guest room.

The hotel was evacuated.

The fire, contained to a small corner of the room, was put out with an extinguisher and the structure was ventilated. Guests were allowed to return to their rooms a short time later.

A hotel guest sustained a minor burn on a foot and was transported by Mercy EMS to an area hospital for treatment.

According to the Department, the cause of the fire was a lithium-ion battery from a remote control car that overheated while being charged.

The Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene.

Multiple departments responded to wheat field fire on Brown Road, East Pembroke

A wheat field fire was reported at 2:12 p.m. at 2281 Brown Road, East Pembroke, in a back field.

East Pembroke Fire responded. 

The chief requested Elba's utility transport vehicle and Alexander's UTV, because they have pumps on them, to the scene.  Alexander Fire, Indian Falls, Alabama, and Darien Fire also dispatched. Alden Fire, which was on scene at the Darien accident, volunteered to bring their UTV to the fire and was dispatched.  Crittenden Fire was also dispatched.

Town of Batavia Fire was placed on standby in quarters.  A Mercy EMS basic life support unit was requested to the scene.

The fire was reported out at about 3:10 p.m.

Farm truck pulls down wires, driver trapped, fire in field, on Tesnow Road

A farm truck has reportedly pulled down electrical wires in the area of 7850 Tesnow Road, Alabama.

A fire has started in an adjoining field.

The driver is trapped in the truck.

Alabama Fire dispatched along with mutual aid from Pembroke and Indian Falls.

Fire police requested to close traffic at Wright Road and Akron Road.

UPDATE 12:32 p.m.: National Grid arrived on scene about 15 minutes ago.

UPDATE 2:58 p.m.: According to a fire chief, there were no injuries to the driver and no damage to the truck or trailer. 

FIre reported on Washington Avenue

A fire was reported at 103 Washington Ave., Batavia.

The fire was apparently out by the time City Fire was on scene. Firefighters are checking for extension.

It's a multi-unit dwelling and all occupants appear to be out of the building.

Barn fire reported in Oakfield

A barn fire with flames showing is reported at 7000 Park Avenue, Oakfield, between Judge Road and Seneca Street.

Oakfield Fire dispatched.

UPDATE 6:10 p.m.: Alabama, Elba, East Pembroke, and City of Batavia Fast Team requested to the scene.

UPDATE 6:12 p.m.: City Fire's second platoon requested to headquarters.

UPDATE 6:21 p.m.: East Pembroke can go back in service. Elba staging at the scene.

Fence fire reported on Liberty Street

A fence is reportedly on fire at 111 Liberty St., Batavia, about one foot from a garage.

The structure is not involved at this time.

City Fire dispatched.

UPDATE 6:24 p.m.: Fire appears to be out. Firefighters checking for extension.

Resident on Oak, Batavia, reportedly burning cardboard, causing a lot of smoke in the area

Dispatchers received a report of a large amount of smoke in the area of Oak and Richmond in Batavia.

A Batavia PD officer reported finding a resident on Oak burning a large amount of cardboard.

City Fire responded and a scene commander informed dispatchers, "approved containers. The homeowner was advised not to burn cardboard anymore."

City Fire is back in service.

Montclair Avenue home heavily damaged by fire

All of the occupants of a residence at 29 Montclair Ave., Batavia, safely escaped a house fire that was reported at 8:53 p.m., Friday.

City Fire responded to the structure fire and upon arrival found a large volume of fire from the front to the two-and-a-half story, single-family home.

Fire crews knocked down the bulk of the fire and entered the home to find fire on the first and second floors and extending into the attic, according to Interim Fire Chief Daniel Herberger. 

Crews were initially hampered by downed power lines and difficult access to the rear of the house.

Several occupants were home at the time the fire was reported, Herberger said.  None were injured.

The American Red Cross is assisting one resident.

 

A firefighter was transported to UMMC by fire department personnel with heat exhaustion.

City Fire and Batavia PD are conducting a joint investigation to determine the cause of the fire.

City Water, Town of Batavia Fire, Alexander Fire, Elba Fire, Emergency Dispatch, National Grid, and National Fuel all assisted in the operation.

Controlled burn out of control on Old Ford Road, Elba

A controlled burn is reportedly out of control at 4491 Old Ford Road, Elba.

A volunteer firefighter called in the fire.

Elba Fire dispatched.

The burn ban is in effect until Saturday.

Barn fire reported on North Byron Road, Byron

A barn fire is reported at 6029 North Byron Road, Byron.

Byron and South Byron fire departments are responding.

UPDATE 3:42 p.m.: The fire reportedly started with a "controlled burn."  The seasonal burn ban is in effect until May 14.  Law enforcement has been requested to the scene. 

UPDATE 3:45 p.m.: Elba requested to the scene.

Leaves reportedly burning out out of control in yard on Gilbert, Le Roy

Leaves are reportedly burning out of control in the yard at 84 Gilbert St., Le Roy.

Le Roy Fire responding.

UPDATE 1:47 p.m.: A Le Roy medic on scene reports that people are pouring water on the fire attempting to get it out.  "It doesn't appear out of control," she says.  The burn area is about 200 to 300 feet.

Resident rescued from basement fire in Oakfield

Oakfield Fire responded to a report of a basement fire at 12 Coe Avenue at 9:36 p.m., Saturday,

One occupant of the house was trapped in the basement area and extricated by responding fire crews, which included the City of Batavia's Fast Team. The occupant was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital by Mercy EMS for smoke inhalation. Her condition is unknown at this time.

There were several pets in the residence. Two cats died due to the fire.

The cause of the fires is under investigation. The investigation is being conducted by the Sheriff's Office and emergency management. Assisting is Oakfield Fire Alabama Fire Elba Fire and City Fire.

House fire reported on Walnut Place, Batavia

A house fire is reported at 2 Willow St. in the City of Batavia.  

Smoke and flames are said to be pouring out of the side of the residence.

The occupant may not be home. 

City Fire responding.

UPDATE 3:44 p.m.: The correct address maybe 2 Walnut.  The caller confirmed 2 Willow three times on the phone. She plots to Walnut.

UPDATE 3:56 p.m.: The correct address is 2 Walnut Place.

UPDATE 4:19 p.m.: National Fuel and City code enforcement on location.

UPDATE 5:22 p.m.: City Fire back in service.

UPDATE 5:35 p.m.: Interim Chief Dan Herberger said the fire was contained to a single room but there is smoke damage throughout the house. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. One firefighter suffered a minor injury.

Chimney fire reported on Chick Road, Darien

A residential chimney fire is reported at 2274 Chick Road, Darien.

The house has been evacuated.

Darien Fire and Mercy EMS responding.

Marshalls store being evacuated, smoke in the building

The Marshalls store on Veterans Memorial Drive in Batavia Town Center is being evacuated because of sparks and smoke coming from a light fixture in the building.

Town of Batavia Fire contains fire to chimney at residence on South Main Street Road

Just before 1 p.m., Town of Batavia Fire responded to 4018 South Main Street Road for a chimney fire.  

There was heavy smoke but no flames showing when firefighters arrived on scene. 

A chief on scene suspected creosote build-up as the cause of the fire.

All occupants were safely out of the structure.

The fire was contained to the chimney.

Truck hauling new cars in Pavilion catches fire, explodes

A car hauler loaded with new Dodge Chargers and Challengers caught fire and exploded in Pavilion at about 2 p.m. today.

Apparently, the truck's brakes overheated. 

The location was west of the tracks on Route 63.

Two of the chargers on top of the truck caught fire and one exploded. A third vehicle also caught fire.
