Obituaries

Arlene J. Moscicki Corbett, 85, of Akron, died Monday (September 6, 2010) at Brothers of Mercy Nursing Home in Clarence.

She was born in Batavia on April 16, 1925 a daughter of the late Joseph and Hedwig Krzanowicz Moscicki.

Mrs. Corbett was a seamstress for many years and enjoyed cooking and friending with her classmates.  She loved eating out with her breakfast club and was a longtime member of St. Teresa of Avila R.C. Church in Akron.  She was a teller at the Bank of Akron for many years prior to her retirement.

Surviving are two daughters and a son in law, Nancy Blair of Orlando, FL and Barbara and Ronald Walker of Depew.  Her son and daughter in law, Alan and Candice Corbett of Berea, OH. Five grandchildren, Sarah Blair, Ryan (Stacy) Walker, Andrew Walker, Jacqueline Corbett and Adam Corbett.  Four great grandchildren, Ryan Cash Walker, Vanessa Blair, Isabella Blair and Addison Corbett.

Two sisters, Eleanor (late Sal) Polito and Genevieve (late Eugene) Adamski both of Batavia.

She was the sister of the late, Stanley (late Justine) Moscicki and Leo (late Maxine) Moscicki.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8PM at the J. LEONARD MCANDREW FUNERAL HOME, 32 JOHN ST., AKRON where prayers will be Friday at 9:30AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM at St. Teresa of Avila R.C. Church.  Burial will follow in St. Teresa's Cemetery.

Maria Ardiri Cuttitta, 89, of Batavia, died Monday (September 6, 2010) from a short illness surrounded by her family at Crossroads House.

Thank you to the wonderful care of hospice, Crossroads House and Dr. Suarana Naiik.  Maria was an extraordinary and devoted woman, wife, grandmother and great grandmother.

She was born in San Piero Patti, Sicily on May 2, 1921, a daughter of the late Anthony and Rosaria Pricoli Ardiri.   Her husband, John (Giovanni) Cuttitta died in 1987.  They would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary  on this date.

Surviving are her five children, Antoinette and Tino Camuti of Brampton, Ontario, Angelo and Mary Lee Cuttitta of Nevada, Missouri, Anthony and Heather Cuttitta of Attica, Joseph Cuttitta of Attiica and Maria and Churck Foley of Batavia.  Thirteen grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren also survive. 

Maria was one of eight children and has living siblings overseas, Carmello (Tindara) Ardiri of Pavia, Concetta, Rosa, Maria Teresa and Tindara.  She was the sister of the late Grazia and Catena, all of Sicily.  Several wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins in all parts of the world including, Switzerland, Germany, Australia and New York. 

Maria was a homemaker for most of her life.  She loved her flower and vegetable gardens which took up her whole back yard.  She was always giving and sharing with family and friends.  Maria was very proud of her gardens and was always complimented by everyone on them.  She truly was the best Mom ever.  She loved her children and grandchildren in her own special way, unconditionally.  Her passing is leaving a huge hole in all the hearts of those whose lives she touched. 

No prior calling hours.  Friends and family may attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday at 11AM at Ascension Parish (St. Anthony's Church).  Entombment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Bruce "Bucky" Lischer, 68 of Perry died September 3, 2010 peacefully at his home. Mr. Lischer was born in Buffalo, New York on May 8, 1942 a son of the late Donald and Norma J. Flemming Lischer. He owned and operated Brockport Lumber Co. in Brockport from 1961-1997. Bucky was a member of the Silver Lake Country Club, Brockport Lyons Club, Brockport Rotary Club, Bridge Club in Brockport, and the Hoo-Hoo International Fraternal Order of Lumbermen, a former member of the Stafford Country Club and Brockport Fire Department. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing and was an avid card player.

Bucky is survived by Wife Gabrielle “Gabi” Fiabane Lischer whom he married on November 4, 1972; sons Terry (Teresa) Lischer of Livonia; Rick (Lori) Lischer of Brockport; daughters Chantal J. Lischer of Rochester; Laurie L. Lischer of Mansfield, MA; brother Mick (Andi) Lischer of Buffalo; sister-in-law: Joelle Lischer of Buffalo; 5 grandchildren Kendall Conti, Chelsea Randall, Caitlin Lischer, Troy Lischer. and Tim Lischer along with beloved pet MoMo. He is preceded in death by a brother Donald Lischer who died in 2008.

Batavia - Mrs. Marion I. Goodwin, 84, of Batavia, retired office manager for Prudential Life Insurance Company in Batavia, died Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at United Memorial Medical Center.

Alabama - Mrs. Erma Maxwell, 82, a retired school bus driver for 28 years at Oakfield-Alabama Central School, died Monday, August 30, 2010 at United Memorial Medical Center, in Batavia following a brief illness.

Mrs. Maxwell was born November 12, 1927 in Alabama, the daughter of the late Earl and Mary (Rein) Hall.

She was a member of the Alabama-Basom Methodist Church; a wedding photographer for many years and loved spending time with family and friends. Her favorite pastime was solving jigsaw puzzles.

Her husband, Glen (Rusty) Maxwell died 2006.

Survivors include two sisters, Nina Hall of Batavia and Ruth (Earl) Geer of Alexander and two sisters-in-law, Jane Hall and Verna Hall, both of Basom and nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

She was the sister of the late Lloyd and Everett Hall.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Alabama Cemetery. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the Alabama - Basom United Methodist Church, 1392 Church St., Alabama. Memorials may be made to Alabama Fire Department, P.O. Batavia - Mrs. Maxine A. Grasso, 68, of Batavia, retired food service manager at Notre Dame High School in Batavia, died Monday, August 30, 2010 at United Memorial Medical Center.

Mrs. Grasso was born June 21, 1942 in Buffalo, a daughter of the late Max and Eugenia Halor Baszczynski.

A member of Ascension Parish and their Altar and Rosary Society, Mrs. Grasso enjoyed traveling with her husband.

She loved her grandchildren and her Notre Dame “family” where she devoted much of her time.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Jerome Grasso; her children,  Nancy (Michael) Piscitillo of Boston, New York,  Lisa (Steven) Grice of Batavia and Jay (Hope) Grasso of LeRoy; her son-in-law, John Netter of Lancaster; seven grandchildren, Matthew and Cara Piscitillo of Boston, New York,  Alex and Casey Grice of Batavia and  Zachary, Nicholas and Hailey Grasso of LeRoy; her brother, Robert (Marge) Baszczynski of Utah; her sister, Christine (Stan) Radwan of Evans and several nieces and nephews.

She is the mother of the late Nadine M. Grasso-Netter who died January 29, 2009.

Friends may call on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Ascension Parish - St. Anthony's Church, 122 Liberty Street, Batavia. Entombment will be in St. Joseph's Mausoleum, Batavia.

 Daniel E. Skivington, Sunday, August 29, 2010, at age 55.

He is a son of Elizabeth (Yeoman) Skivington of Rochester and the late Leon Skivington. Mr. Skivington was a machinist at Rochester Products.  

Surviving along with his mother are two sons, D.J. Skivington of Batavia and Jason Skivington of Chili; a daughter, Lindsay Skivington of Chili; a sister, Susan Skivington of Chili; his ex-wife Rhonda Skivington of Byron and several nieces and nephews. 

He is a brother of the late Michael Skivington.

Kathleen A. (Rybarczyk) Mogavero, 62 of West Seneca, NY died August 29, 2010 at the Father Baker Manor in Orchard Park. Born July 3, 1948 in Buffalo, NY she is daughter of the late William J. (Harriet A. Marsh) Gohr. 

Mrs. Mogavero was a member of St. Gabriel’s Church. She graduated from Meyer Memorial Nursing School and practiced as a Registered Nurse at many hospitals in the Buffalo area before retiring from Health Care Plan in West Seneca. Preceded in death by her first husband Kenneth Rybarczyk. 

She is survived by her husband Charles M. Mogavero of West Seneca; son Scott (Melissa) Rybarczyk of Buffalo; daughter Lisa J. Rybarczyk of Buffalo; step-son Samuel (Kristie) Mogavero of Hamburg; step-daughter Janine (Brian) Wilson of IN; mothers-in-law Irene Piesczynski of West Seneca; Mary Mogavero of Batavia; she was the sister of Clayton (Carol) Gohr of Orchard Park; Carol (George) Dewald of Springville; the late Jean (Robert) Dippold, the late William (Josie) Gohr and the late Grant (Joyce) Gohr. 4 Grandchildren survive along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

The family will be present from 4 to 7:30PM with a memorial service to follow at 7:30 PM on Wednesday September 1, 2010 at the Paul A. Kloc Blossom Chapel, Inc., 4680 Clinton St. (corner of Borden Rd.) West Seneca, NY 14224. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday September 3, 2010 at the Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc. 329-333 W. Main St. Batavia, NY 14020.

Josephine Emily Mager, 96, of Batavia died Sunday (August 29, 2010) at Genesee County Nursing Home.

She was born in Bethany Center on April 10, 1914 a daughter of the late Anthony and Anna Dyrbala Waclawski.

Her husband Frank Mager died in 1986.

Joseph was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed family gatherings and holidays.  Crocheting and making afghans for her children and grandchildren were her favorite past times.  In past years she worked for the former E.N. Rowell Box Factory and Kisiel Die Casting Co.  For many years she worked bingo and lawn fetes at Sacred Heart Church.   She was a volunteer at the Senior Center and Genesee County Nursing Home for over 20 years.  She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, the Altar and Rosary Society and the Apostleship of Prayer.   For numerous years she was the treasurer of the Altar and Rosary Society and a member of the National Assoc. of Retired Federal Employees.

Surviving are three daughers and two sons in law, Mary Lou (late James)  Klein of Batavia, Barbara and Richard Satkowski of Medina and Suzanne and Joseph Koziol of Batavia.  A son and daughter in law, Frank and Margie Mager of Alexander.  Ten grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren,  2 step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.  Her sister and brother in law, Joan and Ralph Torcello of Batavia.  A sister in law, Alfreda Waclawski of Virginia and a brother in law, Joseph Polec of Buffalo. 

She was the grandmother of the late Kathleen Mager and sister of the late, Helen Hunt, Julia Slusar, John Waclawski, Lt. Col. Walter Waclawski, Joseph Waclawski, Mary Dombroski, Sophie Adolph, Stella Kawacz and Frances Polec.

Friends and family may call Wednesday from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 PM at the J. Leonard McAndrew Funeral Home, 2 Bogue Ave., Batavia.  Prayers will be Thursday at 8:45 AM at the J. Leonard McAndrew Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Chrsitian Burial at 9:30 AM at Ascension Parish (Sacred Heart Church).  Entombment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Batavia - Mrs. Frances H. Slovick, 92, of Batavia, who worked in operations and programming at Doehler-Jarvis Division Of National Lead in Batavia for over 30 years, died Thursday, August 26, 2010 at the New York State Veteran's Home.

Mrs. Slovick was born December 21, 1917 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Frank and Wanda Stachowski Yasses.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Church and the Widow's group of the church. Mrs. Slovick also taught Data Processing at BOCES.

Her husband, John F. Slovick, died in 1975.

Survivors include three brothers, Frank (Lorraine) Yasses and Leonard Yasses, both of Batavia and Edwin (Mickey) Yasses of Stafford; three sisters, Genevieve Rudolph and Dolores Krantz, both of Batavia and Alice (Amelio) Taddei of Oakfield; several nieces and nephews including Laurie Hopkins, Sandra Hussar and Valerie Maher, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was a sister of the late Irene Bachulak, Alfreda Walton, Lorraine Maher, Theodore Yasses, and Henry Yasses.

There are no prior calling hours. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 303 East Main Street, Batavia. Entombment will be in St. Joseph’s Mausoleum.
