Obituaries

Patrick T. Mooney of Parmalee Rd, Leroy, passed away on August 4 at the age of 71, with his loving wife, Debbi, by his side.  Pat joins his father Andrew (Pete), mother Mathilda (Terry), sister Ann Cecere, brothers Mike, Dennis, and baby Timmy who have all gone before him.  Also predeceased by dear friends Larry Frens, Al Stringham, Abby Stringham, Pat Chatt, brother-in-law David Jackett, father-in-law Wesley Jackett, Jr., and many beloved animals including dogs Daisy, Scotty, Sadie, Elvis, Ranger, and Kelly and his kitties Buddy, Scooter, and Big Boy along with many others.  

Pat was born January 15, 1951 in Batavia and graduated from Batavia High (’70).  He was a carpenter extraordinaire for over 50 years and much admired for his creative ability to design and build without formal plans.  Back in the day, Pat, like his brother Mike, was a talented pool player and water skier.  He was an avid golfer, and quite good, playing in several leagues at Batavia Country Club.  His dad Pete owned Mooney’s Bar and Grill on Main St. in Batavia for many years.

Pat is survived by his wife and best friend of 51 years, Debbi (Jackett), along with niece Casey Cecere, nephew Shawn Cecere, and niece Kira Baugh.  Also, his sisters-in-law, Sheila Baugh, Laura Jackett, Linden Murphy, brother-in-law Kevin Baugh, brother-in-law Mark Cecere, mother-in-law Kathryn Hill and several cousins.  In addition, many dear friends, especially golf buddy Richard Werth, work partner Jeff Sanfratello , life-long friend Paul Hiscutt, Jeff Saraceni and the Table of Knowledge breakfast group at the Bergen Diner.  He is missed by his loyal and constant companion Wylie, little dog Walker and many kitties including GiGi, Rocky and Bubba.

Pat was a loyal friend, always there when someone needed a helping hand.  He loved animals and rescued many in his life.  He took pride in his home, constantly remodeling and adding buildings to his property, mowing his very large yard,  maintaining the woods and the old cemetery on the hill.  In the past few months, he enjoyed rooting for his favorite team, the Yankees.  He was a kind, decent man who will be missed by his many friends and family.

Batavia - Jerome F. Greco, 91 of Batavia, passed away on Saturday, (July 30, 2022) at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.

Mr. Greco was born June 15, 1931 in Pocatello, Idaho a son of the late Charles C.  and Frances (Jordan) Greco.

Jerome was a parishioner of Resurrection Parish - St. Joseph's Church. He served his country honorably with the Air Force and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Jerome is the husband of the late Loretta (Capuano) Greco and brother of the late Sam Greco.

Surviving is his son, Charles (Rebecca) Greco of Waddell, Arizona; grandchildren, Tech Sgt. Yvonne Greco of Clovis, New Mexico and Anthony Greco of Goodyear, Arizona; a great-granddaughter, Chloe Haley of Henrietta; sister, Joanne (Joseph) Atkinson of Idaho.

Honoring Mr. Greco's request, there will be no visitation. A private Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Joseph's Church. Bergen - Elizabeth A. Walbridge (“Beth”), 66 of Bergen, passed away on Thursday, (July 28, 2022) at Hildebrandt Hospice Care Facility in Rochester.

Beth was born January 13, 1956 in Batavia, a daughter of the late John and Virginia (Hill) Smith.

She was a former member of the Morganville United Methodist Church, was a member of the Troutberg Homeowner’s Association, and was a supporter of the Arbor Day Foundation. Beth enjoyed gardening, flowers, and bird-watching. She cherished time spent with her two grandchildren and being at the Lake beach walking, having coffee and visiting with neighbors and friends. She was an avid New York Jets fan, and also liked to snowmobile, hunt, fish, and boat.

Beth is the wife of the late Allan Walbridge; mother of the late Joshua Richenberg, and daughter-in-law of the late Edward and Lee Walbridge.
Surviving is her son, Aaron (Felicia) Richenberg of Bloomfield; grandchildren Joshua and Jolena; brothers, John (late Roslyn) Smith of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Don (Linda) Smith of Mesa, Arizona, and Gregg Smith of Stafford; sisters-in-law, Sara Weylman of Warsaw, and Jan (Reggie) MacDonald of Stafford. Several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends also survive.

David Lange was born on February 11, 1950 in Batavia, NY to Norman and Ruth Lange. He and his sister Marcia never strayed too far from their Grandma Wellman’s kitchen, who must be credited as the creator of David’s infamous sweet tooth!  Surrounded by his loving grandparents, cousins, and aunt and uncle, David enjoyed ham radio and learning to play organ in his growing up years.  

David received his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Clarkson University in 1972.  He kept his license up even after retirement and remained a registered civil engineer from 1977 until his passing. David was a quintessential engineer and attention to detail was his forte!  

David married his true love, Marilyn Fox Lange on August 4th, 1973.  Less than 2 days before his passing, David and Marilyn celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary.  We give God all the glory that He allowed this gift.  David and Marilyn were an example of loyalty, devotion and commitment.

David worked for the New York State Department of Transportation, continuously serving from 5/31/73 until 7/11/07.  He was Resident Engineer for Genesee/Orleans counties and returned to NYSDOT following retirement with his last assignment as Acting Regional Director of Operations, Region 4 in Rochester.  

Service was an integral part of David’s life.  He served as Saint James Episcopal Church’s organist from 7/9/95 until 3/5/22. True to his nature, David attended to many details at St James, serving on various committees over the years.  David also served as Trustee for the Village of Alexander.  

David’s hobbies included helping others quietly, shoveling many friends, family and neighbors’ driveways, and happily feeding grandchildren (and everyone else) doughnuts and ice cream.  

David is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Fox) Lange of Alexander and daughter Karen and son-in-law Adam LaDuke (172 steps up the street). Grandchildren Naomi, Sally, Margo, and John LaDuke attest to Grandpa’s accuracy in counting steps!  Family in Attica include sister Marcia & brother-in-law Bob Perry, aunt Carol Wellman, cousins Cyndie Wellman and Julie & Jeff Huber.  Additional family include Donna Butler, Suzanne, Greg & Theo Scholand, Danielle & Jordan Fleming, Steve & Jacque Roys, and Kevin & Lisa Roys.  Don Huber, Steve & Fanny Huber, Lee Huber & Nora Kennon, Nancy & Dave Dupree, David & Kris Fox, Bill & Tracy Fox, Christy & Jameson Brunje, Laurie Kelly, Jeff Kelly & Misty Spriggs, Josh & Beth Todd, and Andy & Ashley Todd round out the nieces and nephews list, in addition to many great nieces and great nephews.  Sister and brother-in-laws include Ruth Ann & Ken Kelly and Carol & Larry Trombley and Dick Fox.  David was loyal to many longtime friends who he adored as well.

  Deborah L. Swabb, 68, of Oakfield passed away on May 12, 2022 at Unity Hospital in Rochester. She was born on February 27, 1954 in Batavia to the late Elbert and Doris (Ostrowski) Ashton. In addition to her parents, Deborah is predeceased by her siblings; Leona (Ray) Benson, Elbert (Linda) Ashton Jr., Patricia (John) Morris.

Our mother always put us kids first growing up.  She was full of life and always cared for others.  Her family was a very important part of her life.  She loved joking around and would do puzzles in her spare time. She was the kind of women that would give you her shirt of her back. Anyone that knew her could always count on picking up the phone and having a great conversation with her, never a dual moment! She will be dearly missed by all that knew her. 

She is survived by her loving husband; John E. Jacksonville, FL - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marjorie Romero, lovingly known to her family as Mom, Nana, Aunt Margie, and Sis. Marjorie passed away peacefully on the morning of July 29th in the company of her family.
Born to Bernard and Henrietta Romesser on January 7, 1947 in Warsaw, NY. Marjorie grew up on a family farm as one of six siblings. She was an avid reader that enjoyed playing games with siblings, walking in nature, and managing her family’s comic book library.
Marjorie was a born nurturer and enjoyed caring for her younger siblings and cousins. That caring nature brought her to nursing school in Buffalo, NY, where she met and fell in love with her husband, Renato Romero. They married on May 18, 1969. Together they grew their family raising four wonderful children and many beloved pets.
Exceptionally thoughtful and patient, Marjorie spent her life as a guiding light to her family and friends. She was always there to listen and support loved ones. Marjorie’s life philosophy emphasized benevolence and ensuring all feel welcome. She will be remembered for a lifetime of warmth, kindness and generosity, whose reverberations will continue to be felt for generations to come.
Her love of children and families led her to further her studies and get an advanced degree in psychology. She spent her career providing mental health care for children and mentoring new therapists. Her sweet voice, playful demeanor, and trustworthiness were a gift for those that she served.
Upon her retirement, her grandchildren became her greatest source of joy and devotion. She doted on all her grandchildren with the gifts of time, support, enthusiasm, adventures, listening ears, a shoulder to cry on, and generous hugs. She spent her free time learning new crafts, hosting relatives and friends for visits,
 playing (and winning) card games, and keeping in touch with kin and friends. She continued to listen and support the village built around her incredible nurturing spirit.
Marjorie is survived by her loving husband, Renato Romero, and her children Marcos (Sita) Romero of Glen Allen, VA, Neri Romero of St. John’s, FL, Tifinni (Kendall) Romero of Jacksonville Beach, FL, and Dino Romero of Miami, FL; her beloved grandchildren: Caitie, Theo, Rhys, Zinny, Jeremy, Maya, Nathan, Taban, Kamdyn, Kailyr, and Michael; her siblings Patricia Perl of Palmyra, NY, Thomas (Mary Ann) Romesser of Rancho Mission Viejo, CA, and Diane (George) Petrotta of Fairport, NY; Sister-in-law Linda Mascetti (Joseph) of Sun City Center, FL and Brother-in-law James Youngers (Sarah) of Arcade, NY; many nieces and nephews and their children.
She is predeceased by her parents; siblings Joseph Romesser and Sarah Jane Youngers; her mother in law, Maria del Valle, and her grandchild, Xavier Wyche.

Cheryl L Perry entered into rest Wednesday, August 3rd after a courageous battle with cancer. Born December 26, 1948 to the late Ruth and Merrit Long, Cheryl was raised in East Bethany.

Cheryl is survived by her husband of 50 years, John L. Perry; her four children, Amy Snyder of Depew, Craig Perry of South Dayton, Dale (Ashley) Perry of South Dayton, and Lisa (Steve) Barnum of Alden; her 3 sisters, Carol (George) Pursel of LeRoy, Jil Long of Tennessee and Nancy Castle-Scott of Tennessee; her 8 grandchildren, Chris, Allen, and Karen Snyder, Mackenzie, Juilanna and Dale Perry, Kennedy and Blake Barnum and several nieces and nephews. Cheryl was predeceased by her brother Ed Long.

Cheryl owned and operated a dairy farm with her husband John in addition to working as a nurse for over 40 years. Cheryl retired from the Batavia VA Hospital in 2012.

Cheryl loved her family, and lived to help them whenever and wherever she could. She loved to plan holiday celebrations, organize and decorate her family's houses, and spend time playing with her grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on August 13, 2022 beginning at 11:00AM at St. John Neumann Parish, St. Cecilia Site, 991 Centerline Rd. Sheldon, NY 14145. She will be laid to rest in St. Cecilia Cemetery, Sheldon. There will be no prior calling hours; a reception will be held at the church hall following the burial proceedings.

  Donna Marie Buck, 73, of Batavia passed away on August 1, 2022 at Strong Memorial Hospital. She was born on April 22, 1949 in Rochester to the late George and Eleanor (Brewster) Gundell. In addition to her parents, Donna is predeceased by her loving husband; Larry J. Buck;

She is survived by her daughter; Michelle (John) Tracy; Son David Marinucci; brother Fred Gundell; Sister-in-law Sandy (Paul) Briggs; Grandchildren Melody, Sarah and Ben Tracy; Niece Ashley (Christopher) Polito and Great Nephew, Cameron Polito, along with many, many friends.

Donna retired from Genesee County Nursing Home as a Head Nurse and also worked at the Batavia Nursing Home, St. Jerome Hospital and Hope Haven Rehabilitation Unit. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt. She made a life of caring for others. Her sense of humor and laughter permeated the room and everyone she met could not help but to love her.

Jeremy R. Gabbey Sr., 39 of Pembroke.
Jeremy was born in Batavia, NY on August 26, 1982, son of Guy and Elizabeth Gabbey.

Loving husband to Allison Gabbey (nee Winch) and proud father and best friend to Jeremy R. Gabbey Jr. He was the light of their lives. Jeremy is survived by parents Guy and Elizabeth Gabbey of Corfu; brother Guy (Joanna) Gabbey of Springville; brother Andrew (Erika) Gabbey of Pembroke. Father and Mother-in-Law Neil and Pamela Winch of Strykersville; sisters-in-law Kara (Aaron) Otto of Virginia, and Molly (Dane) Flavin of Piffard. Also survived by beloved nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles and many cousins and treasured friends.

Jeremy was employed by the U.S Department of treasury. He attended Brockport State College where he won the Lambert Cup with his team and will be inducted into the Brockport Hall of fame in October.
Jeremy was a devoted family man. He was a wonderful husband, dad, son, brother and uncle. He adored his wife Allison and was a hero to his son Jeremy Jr. He prided himself on never missing even one of JJ’s numerous sporting events. He was known to the community as a man of honor and will be missed tremendously.
The family will receive friends from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm on Friday, August 5th at High Point Church at 1163 Main Rd Corfu NY, 14036. Funeral Services will be Saturday, August 6th at 11am also at High Point Church. Internment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Corfu.

Nancy B. Mead, age 86, of Perry passed away on Sunday July 31, 2022 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw. She was born in Warsaw, NY on November 20, 1935 a daughter to the late Henry C. and Bertha Beaman (Buttles) Bennett.

Nancy was a 1954 graduate of Perry Central High School and GCC Nursing Program. She was a LPN at Eastside Nursing Home in Warsaw for 17years, Prior to becoming a nurse she worked for the former Champion Products in Perry. Nancy was a member of the Perry Baptist Church, Tops Club (Taking off pounds sensibly) and the Perry Senior Social Club. She enjoyed watching all sports especially football and baseball. Her favorite teams are the NY Yankees and Mets and the Buffalo Bills.

She is survived by 2 daughters: Corinne (Warren) Weaver, and Shirley Mead both of Silver Springs, 2 sons: William (Chris) Mead of Perry, Lawrence (Vivian) Mead of Seattle, WA., a sister: Nellie (Raymond) Caryl of Attica, 5 grandchildren: Jessica (Justin) Smith, Alex (Courtney) Mead, Etahn, Breanna and Stephanie Mead, 9 great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.

Jacob Camerera, 31, of Batavia, went to be with the Lord on July 30, 2022.

Jacob was born April 13, 1991 in Batavia, the son of Mark (Jackie) Camerera and Sandra (Scott) Allen.

Jacob loved his daughter and will be remembered for his carpentry work and artistic ability.  

Surviving along with his parents are his daughter, Jaylynn Rose Camerera; grandmother, Andrea Ehmann; sisters, Jenna (Tony) Avila and Marissa (Jeff) Kolarz; step-sister, Bekki (Danny) Avila; step-brother, Tucker (Susanna) Allen; nieces and nephews, August, Selena, Gabriel, Josie and Evelyn and many cousins, aunts and uncles.

Preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank and Josephine Grillo and Ivan Camerera.

Jacob's Celebration of Life will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 4 at the Genesee Country Church, 3268 Drake Street Road, Oakfield.

  Tatyana Chizh, 66, of Batavia was born on April 25, 1956 in Minsk, Belarus and her precious life ended on August 1, 2022.

She lived a fulfilling life as a mother, sister, wife and grandmother. She loved gardening, puzzles, cooking and baking. No one would ever leave her home hungry. Tatyana always put others first and took care of their needs.  She was the light in our life and we will miss her very much.

Tatyana is survived by her loving husband: Aleksey Chizh; daughter Nataliya (Frank) Cascino of Williamsville; son Aleksander (Alena) Chizh of Belarus; sisters Ludmila (Nikolay) Pogankina and Svetlana (Oleg) Ruvinskay both of Belarus; 4 grandchildren Roman, Elizabeth, Leolya and Valeriy, along with many nieces and nephews.

George V. Voss, of Terrell Texas, formally of West Batavia, died Sunday, July 31 st 2022.

Born in Racine Wisconsin September 15 th , 1933, son of the late Helen and Bill Voss. George was a Navy Veteran for 4 years serving in the Korean War as a photographer. After being discharged he took his skills to Batavia, where he met his wife Virginia, and started his photography career at The Batavia Daily News. He was employed there for over 30 years, and they settled on a small farm in West Batavia to raise their family of 5 children.

His passion for photography, hunting, fishing, and traveling were his favorite pastimes. Not being a big fan of the Western N.Y. winters, they moved to Terrel, Texas in 1980, where he is a member of the Poetry Methodist Church and a member of the American Legion. With the help of 3 sons he built a log home and continued in his small farming hobby where bush-hogging his 46 acre ranch was prime time.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years Virginia (nee Walbridge); father of Pamela Chatt, Gregory (Debbie) Voss, Mike Voss, Mark (Cathy) Voss, Scott (Lisa) Voss. Also survived by 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be at the C. B. Beach & Son Mortuary, Inc., 4 East Main Street, Corfu, N.Y. on Saturday, August 6th from 3 to 5 p.m.
Burial with full military honors will take place in Poetry, Texas at a later date.

On Friday, July 29, 2022 Edward M. Romesser passed away after a long struggle with ALS (Lou Gehrig ’s disease) at the age of 70 ½. He is predeceased by his parents Francis Romesser and Irene Myers, brothers John and Richard, and sister Bernadine (Tracy) Matteson.

He was born to Francis and Irene Romesser in Warsaw, NY, grew up in North Java, NY.  He attended St. Nicholas School and Attica Central School.  He worked as a Correctional Officer at Attica Correctional Facility for 32 ½ years.  He was very proud of his distinguished athletic career at Attica School. He continued his love of sports with baseball, golf, bowling, hiking, biking, hunting, and was an avid runner for many years.

He also enjoyed camping with friends and family.  Ed especially enjoyed watching his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, musical programs, and dance recitals.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Janet (Fox) Romesser, his children Christopher (Tracy) Romesser, Corey (Jennifer) Romesser and Allison (Jay) Platten, his eight grandchildren Andrew, Aiden, and Naomi Romesser, Joshua, Rachael, and Lucas Romesser and Connor and Brinley Platten, his sisters Anna May (late Walt) Allenbrandt, Lorraine (Bob) Stubley, his brothers Jerry (Pat) Romesser, Tony (Sylvia), Carl (Anne) along many nephews, nieces and cousins.

Ed’s last years were filled with support and comfort from his family and friends.  Special support came from his card friends led by T.E., who helped make his Wednesdays much more therapeutic and enjoyable. His final days were spent at the Gateway Home in Attica where he received the greatest care by all those who work and volunteer there.

Friends are invited to call on Monday, August 8, 2022 from 3pm to 7pm at Marley Funeral Home, LLC, 135 Main Street, Attica, NY 14011. A 10:00am mass will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at Sts. Joachim & Anne Parish, 50 East Avenue, Attica, NY 14011. He will be laid to rest in Forest Hill Cemetery, Attica.

Nancy L. Waite, 87, of Batavia, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2022 at United Memorial Medical Center.

Nancy was born June 16, 1935 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Carmelo and Carrie (Davis) Calarco.

Nancy loved spending time with her family, friends, her little dog, Aggie, dancing, cooking and the holidays.  She was employed by the former Norbans and Vincent Jewelers for many years.

Surviving are her children, Gerald (Peg) Waite, Terry (Terry) Hagen and Robert (Lori) Waite; grandchildren, Angelean Waite, Stephen (Nicole) Waite, Justin Waite, Brian (Beth) Waite, Kimberly (Kyle) Turner and Matthew Hagen; great-grandchildren, Sebastian, Quincy, Madelynn, Cecilia, Alanna, Aubrey, Beckett and Ella and several nieces and nephews.  Also, surviving are many friends, especially her dearest friend and dance partner, Norman Walsh.

Preceded in death by her husbands, Gerald B. Waite and Arthur H. Roth.

There are no prior calling hours.  Nancy's funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, August 8 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 31 Washington Ave., Batavia.  She will be laid to rest in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Batavia.
