MICHAEL P. McDONALD           

Age 51, of Batavia, died peacefully Friday morning March 4, 2016 at Strong Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born October 28, 1964 in Rochester, NY, a son of the late Paul McDonald and Barbara (Provenzano) and James Samberg of Webster.     

Mike was a 1982 graduate of Aquinas Institute and a member of Resurrection Parish (St. Joseph's). He was an avid sports fan and was very active in local youth sports along with his involvement with his boys and their activities. He enjoyed golf, participated in the local men's hockey league, was a youth football coach, little league baseball coach and a volunteer for Notre Dame High School football. 

Surviving along with his father, his pride and joy, sons, Cam and Aaron McDonald both of Batavia; loving sisters, Martha Smith of Rochester, Margo Conheady of Rochester, Meghan (Scott Boone) McDonald of Scottsville and dear brother, Mark (Jacquie) McDonald of Atlanta, GA; his former wife, Kelly McDonald along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.  

The McDonald family will be present from 2-4 & 7-9pm on Wednesday March 9, 2016 at the Michael S. CAROLL S. WOJKOWSKI

Age 60, of Batavia, died peacefully Wednesday March 2, 2016 at the Leo Center for Caring in Rochester after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born on December 18, 1955 in Batavia, NY, daughter of Anna Antonio of Batavia and the late Leonard Radley, also preceded in death by her step-father, Dominic Antonio, niece, Michelle Lee Ruhlman and nephew, Brian Erik Radley. 

Caroll was a wonderful mother and grandmother whose family was the most important thing in her life, she will be sadly missed by her entire family. 

Surviving along with her mother is her husband, Walter of Batavia; daughter, Rose (Stephen) Bailey of Batavia; sons, Timothy (Melanee) Wojkowski, David Wojkowski, Joseph Wojkowski, Harley Radley all of Batavia; granddaughters, Piper and Bella Wojkowski and Zofia Bailey; sisters, LeAnne (Gerry) Corcoran of CO, Patty Gayton of Batavia, Flossie (John) Radley of Batavia, Shirley (Randy) Colopy of Castile, Chuck (Sharon) Radley of Batavia and David Radley of Akron along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

The family will be present from 2-4 & 7-9pm on Monday March 7, 2016 at the MICHAEL S.   Jennie C. Mazzarella, 92, of Batavia passed away peacefully on Friday March 4, 2016 at the Genesee County Nursing Home.  She was born on May 11, 1923 in Oakfield to the late Carmen and Josephine (Alaimo) Giordano. She is predeceased by her husband Joseph F. Mazzarella who passed away in 1971. In addition to her husband, Jennie is predeceased by her brothers Samuel, Dr. Benjamin, Anthony and Joseph “Gigi” Giordano.

Jennie worked for over 30 years at J.M. Beauty Salon in Batavia. She also worked at the NYS Veterans Home at Batavia prior to her retirement. She will forever be known for being a loving and caring mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her children; a son Joseph (Sheryl Jeffery) Mazzarella of Batavia and daughter Linda Fagan of Batavia; brother Dr. Paul (Marion) Giordano of Buffalo; grandchildren Samuel (Kim) Fagan and Paul Fagan, 3 great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

Bergen – Denise A. Dugan, 62, of Bergen, passed away suddenly Thursday, (March 3, 2016) at her home, in Bergen.

Mrs. Dugan was born October 22, 1953 in Rochester, a daughter of Bernice (Ceresoli) Viavattine of Gates and the late Joseph Viavattine.

Denise was a postal clerk for many years at the Churchville Post Office.  She enjoyed reading, gaming, hosting events, and spending time with her family.  She will be remembered as someone who was very loving, caring, and giving. 

She is the wife of Brian Dugan of Bergen.  The two were married October 18, 1986, in Rochester.

Surviving along with her husband and mother are her sons, Scott (Lisa Boughtom) DeVelder, Steven DeVelder both of Bergen, and Denny (Lacy) DeVelder of Chili; two granddaughters, Jaden and Brynn; a brother, Joe (Jean) Viavattine of Greece; a sister, Marie (Sue Sciortino) Viavattine of Rochester; and dear friends, Sharon Venuto of Elba and Steve (Sue) Soper of Bergen. 

Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 51 South Lake Street, Bergen.  Denise’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, (March 7, 2016) at St. Brigid's Church, 18 Gibson Street, Bergen.

MARJORIE GAYTON-HERMAN

Age 84, of Batavia and formerly of Warsaw, died peacefully Saturday February 27, 2016 at the Buffalo VA Medical Center. She was born March 7, 1931 in Hornell, NY, a daughter of the late Charles E. and Marjorie (LeMunyan) Darling; also preceded in death by her husbands, Thomas Gayton in 1978 and George Herman in 2006, step-son, Mark Herman, step-daughter, Ellen Schaumloeffel and brother, Charles E. Darling.

Marjorie is a Marine Corp Veteran and a member of the Wyoming County Veterans Club in Warsaw. She was a volunteer at the Senior Center and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. 

Surviving are her children, Ronald of St. Pete, FL; Pamela (Thomas) Radell of TN, Madeline Gayton McCready and Doreen (Scot) Wright all of Batavia; step-sons, Brian Herman of NC and Steve Herman of TX; 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild along with several nieces and nephews.

  Lottie Skop Borkowski, 97, of Fairport, formally of Oakfield and Batavia, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday March 1, 2016.  She was born in Batavia on August 29, 1918 to the late Bruno and Maryann (Odakowski) Sulimowicz.

She is predeceased by her 1^st husband Frank W. Skop and 2^nd Leon Borkowski; brothers John and Leon Sulim, Joseph and Anthony Sulimowicz; sisters Rosie Smith and Sophie Matla.

Mrs. Borkowski is survived by her daughters; Mary (Mark) Hackett of Batavia and Diane (Stephen) Saunders of Pittsford; son Frank (Joann) Skop of Fairport; sister Florence Salviski and sister in law Betty Sulim both of Florida; 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.

  James F. Bramer Sr., age 85, of Perry passed away at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw. James was born in Perry, New York on November 22, 1930 to the late Howard (Edith Hoste) Bramer. He is preceded in death by a sister Beverly (Joe) Redden.

Mr. Bramer served with the US Army from 1952-1954.Jim was a graduate of Perry Central School. He worked many years at his father’s bakery business (Perry Baking Company later known as Bramer’s Bakery) before taking it over in 1975. He retired in 2003. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a former member of the Constellation Lodge #404 of the Free and Accepted Mason and the American Legion McKelton Post #350. Jim enjoyed roller skating, boating, and fishing on Silver Lake, woodworking and watching football games.

He is survived by his wife: Bonnie (Darrow) Bramer whom he married on April 4, 1980; 2 sons Rick (Cindy) Bramer of Warsaw, Craig (Linda) Bramer of Portageville; step-daughter Penny (Terry) Bovee of Dansville; step-sons Tim (Helen Whiteman) Craft of Perry, Jim (Denise) Craft of Dalton along with many grandchildren; step grandchildren; great grandchildren nieces and  nephews.

A Memorial service will be announced at a later date. He will be laid to rest in Mt. Morris Cemetery in Mt. Morris.

Jacqueline K. Pope, 71, formerly of Pavilion, passed away peacefully, Monday, February 29th at the Wyoming County Nursing Facility where she resided. Born April 17, 1944 in Batavia, New York to the late Reginald (Edith Richardson) Shepard. She married Lawrence W. Pope, Jr. on July 17, 1971 in Leroy, New York who preceded her in death on October 26, 2003. 

Jacqueline graduated from Leroy Central High School in 1962. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Jacqueline was a beautician, worked for GTE Sylvania until they closed, and then retired from Eastman Kodak Company. She was an avid Sports fan of especially the NY Yankees and the Buffalo Bills.  In addition, Jacqueline enjoyed playing cards and bingo.

She is survived by her loving twin sister Janice (Vincent) Cervoni,Batavia, New York, sister Bonnie (Roland) Sage, Leroy, New York, sister Dorene Shepard, Bergen, New York, Debra Shepard, Bergen, New York, sister-in-law Audrey Stout, Batavia, New York; daughter Crystal Nestler, Swansea, Illinois; son Eric Pope, Danbury, Connecticut; two sons and daughter-in-laws, Thomas and Marcia Pope, Attica, New York, Tracy and Marie Pope, North Chili, New York; four grandsons, four granddaughters and two great grand-children.

Donald C. Almeter, 92, of Varysburg formerly of North Java, entered heaven peacefully Thursday February 25, 2016 at Elderwood Nursing Home in Cheektowaga. Donald was born July 28, 1923 in North Java, New York to the late Edward J. (Josephine Seewaldt) Almeter. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Glenora E. (Perry) Almeter and brothers Vincent Almeter, E. Wilson (Red) Almeter, Bernard Almeter.

Donald was the owner/operator of Almeter Garage in North Java for more than 30 years, who served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943-1946. He was a member of St. Nicholas Church for most of his life; member of the American Legion for many years; as well as a volunteer of the North Java Fire Co for over 70 years and was volunteer Chief for 33 of those years. He was also partner in establishing the Volunteer North Java Rescue Squad in 1959 with its first ambulance.  Donald became an EMT and then helped teach their firemen to become to become EMT’s. In addition, Donald was the main catalyst in erecting the current North Java Fire Co. building. He was involved with the Wyoming County Fire District and Fire Board. Donald was an avid hunter for most of his life and part of the “Sugar Hill Gang”.

He was survived by his children Joanne M. (Gugino) Almeter of Buffalo, David D. (Roberta) Almeter of Rochester, Diane E. Almeter-Marsh of Buffalo; 4 grandchildren Erin Zarcone, Michael Gugino, Kristopher Almeter and Alexandra (Todd) Gugino-Piotrowski; 2 great-grandchildren Emily and Lyla; sister Lorraine E. (Almeter) Garlock along with many nieces and nephews and friends.

Francis L. Shattuck Jr., 31, of Friendship, New York passed away February 23, 2016 at his home. He was born January 5, 1985 in Rochester, New York to Francis Shattuck Sr. of Dryden and Lorraine Gagner of Castile.

He was a graduate of Perry Central School where he played football and baseball. Fran loved music, fishing and was very artistic. He was an avid Buffalo Bills Fan and was extremely passionate about football. In his memory the family would like anyone who wants to wear their Buffalo Bills attire to please do so.

He is survived by his fiancé Tonja Hopseker of Friendship; son Christopher Shattuck of Lima; brother Joshua (Fiancé Laura Brandes) Shattuck of Castile; sister Amanda (Fiancé Juan Rosario) Shattuck of Lakeville, their children Gabrielle and Sylus.

Herbert, J. Hawley of Perry Center/Geneseo,passed away February 23, 2016 at the age of 90. He was born May 27, 1925 in Perry Center, New York to the late Fred (Marian Knox) Hawley. He is preceded in death by brother Fred Hawley, Jr., and sister Ruth Hawley Gibson.  He is survived by two nephews; Mark (Marie) Gibson of Rush, and James (Rose) Hawley of Rochester, grand-nephew, Corey Gibson of Rush and grand-niece, Nicole Gibson of Gainesville Florida.

Most of his life was lived in Perry Center and Geneseo.  He was the salutatorian of Perry High School Class of 1942.  He received a full scholarship to Cornell University and graduated with a degree in Government in 1946.Herb had a life-long love of theatre, music, and fine arts.  In 1964, he was awarded the Dramatist Play Service Scholarship at the Univ of Wisconsin.  He acted in plays at Perry High School, Cornell University, San Antonio, Texas, Little Theatre in Rochester, Batavia Players, and was actor, producer and director of Perry Players for fifteen years.  Herb was a long time member of First Congregational Church in Perry Center, Perry Center Fire Department, and Masons Constellation #404 of Perry.  He owned and operated an insurance and real estate business in Perry for 35 years. 

In 2005 he established the Jean M Besser Scholarship for a student in the arts at SUNY Geneseo.  He was the curator of the Stowell Wiles Art Gallery at the Perry Library, where he served as a trustee for 22 years, 8 of those years as president.  He retired from the library at age 80, but continued as the principal fundraiser for the library parking lot expansion plan.  He was also a volunteer at Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester.

  Donald “Donnie” Edward Merlau, 56, of Cowlesville, NY passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the Geneseo IRA.  Donald was born December 15, 1959 at Mercy Hospital in Buffalo, NY.  He was the second child and first son of Herbert Hartman and Mary Ann Merlau of Dunnellon, Florida.  

Donnie enjoyed participating in his daily household tasks, going out for coffee, lunch, or the movies, sending cards to his family on special occasions, and rocking in his favorite rocking chair. 

Don will be forever remembered by his loving sisters, Peg (Scott) Skellington of Seymour, CT, Pamela (Mark) Hondzinski of Sugar Hill, GA, and Jennifer (Paul) Ahr of Doylestown, PA; his devoted brothers, John Merlau of Kansas City, MO, and Thomas Merlau of Springfield, VT; his many nieces and nephews; and his countless friends at the Geneseo IRA and DOTY Day Services.

There are no calling hours.  A Graveside Service will be held Friday, February 26, 2016 at 10:00AM at the Cowlesville Cemetery.

David J. Gavlak, 62, of Perry and Syracuse, passed away at his home in Syracuse on February 22, 2016. David was born in Whitinsville, Ma. on December 27, 1953 a son of the late John J. and Regina N. (Petrovitz) Gavlak.

He was a graduate of Perry Central School. David entered the Air Force in 1972 where he made a career out of it retiring in 1993. He was stationed with the Air Force in many states including Alaska, California, and Nevada as well as being stationed in Iceland and Greece. He received many medals during his career including the Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Air Force Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Outstanding Unit Award with two oak leaf clusters, Good Conduct Medal with five oak leaf clusters, Longevity Service Award Ribbon with three oak leaf clusters, along with many other medals awards and ribbons. He then started working VA Hospitals retiring on December 31, 2015 from the VA Medical Center in Syracuse where he was a surgical technician.  He was a member of the Perry VFW Post #5009 and a booster club member of the Batavia Muck Dogs. He enjoyed going to the Batavia Muck Dogs games, going to air shows, collecting model trains, photography, traveling, and hot air balloons, often traveling around the United States to balloon festivals where he would work with the chase crew. 

He is survived by 3 sisters: Karen (Douglas) Heiby of Perry, Mary Jane Gavlak of Snowflake, AZ., Gina (Russell) Flint of Warsaw, 2 brothers: Steven Gavlak of Warsaw and Michael Gavlak of San Fidel, NM, 2 nieces Devon Lee (James) Abejo and Julie Grills, 4 nephews: Timothy (Bridget) Gavlak, Derek (Heather) Heiby, Thomas and John Grills, 2 great nephews: Ethan and Trenten Gavlak along with several Aunts, Uncles and cousins.

There will be no prior calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday June 15, 2016. Service time to be announced. He will be laid to rest with Military Honors in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Perry.

Midwest City, OK- Dawn Christine Pehrson, 51, of Midwest City, Oklahoma, a certified nurse’s aide at Reliance Living Center in Oklahoma City, died Friday, February 19, 2016 at Alliance Health Midwest in Midwest. Ok.

Mrs. Pehrson was born January 29, 1965 in Sunbury, PA, the daughter of Ronald Dawson of AZ and Ruth (Weist) Dawson of Shortsville, NY.

She graduated from Genesee Community College

Survivors include her companion of 30 years, Raymond Chudoba of Midwest, OK; 2 sons, Chadwick Chudoba of Del City, OK and Joshua Pehrson of Batavia; 2 grandchildren, Isaac and Alexandra; 3 sisters, Tammi, Tina and Tanya; and numerous nieces and nephews. .

  Carmella D. Brick, 84, of Perry passed away on Tuesday February 23, 2016 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw. She was born on October 5, 1931 in Arnprior, Ontario Canada to the late Paul S. and Auldia (Mallette) Dioguardi. 

Carmella is predeceased by her son Bruce A. Brick; grandson Bruce A. Brick Jr.; son in law Frank A. Spiotta; sister Ann Ochal and brothers Paul, Ronald and Steven Dioguardi.

Carmella was a long time secretary at Comstock Foods in Mt. Morris.  She enjoyed knitting, cooking and going to the casino, but above all else loved being with her family.

She is survived by her loving husband Jay L. Brick who she married in 1953; daughters Susan M. Spiotta of Batavia, Paula Parker of Perry and Sandra L. (Stephen) Chauvin of Twinsburg, OH; brothers Donald (Sally) Dioguardi of Byron and Brian (Maxine) Dioguardi of Batavia; a sister Carol (Henry) Lukas of Chaffee; 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call on Sunday February 28, 2016 from 2:00 – 4:00PM at the Eaton-Watson Funeral home, LLC. 98 North Main St. Perry, New York 14530. Prayer’s will be recited at 10:15AM at the Funeral Home on Monday February 29th prior to an 11:00AM Mass of Christian Burial that will take place at St. Isidore’s Catholic Parish (St. Joseph’s Church) in Perry. She will be laid to rest in Leicester Cemetery.
