Elba- Mrs. Anna M. Dorf, 90, of Elba, died Saturday, February 26, 2011at United Memorial Medical Center, in Batavia.

Mrs. Dorf was born May 31, 1920 inBarre, a daughter of the late Charles and Jessie Kingdollar Allen.

A member of Padre Pio Parish - Our Lady of Fatima Worship site, Mrs. Dorf was a former member of the Home Bureau and Elba Historical Society. She enjoyed gardening, her flowers and traveled extensively with her family. Her family wishes to extend a special thank you to all of her caregivers during her illness.

Her husband, Ferdinand "June" Dorf, died September 24, 1995.

Survivors include three daughters, June Ellen Dorf of Elba, Lynda (Kris) Porter of Lewiston and Gail (Joseph) Gabriel of Brockport; two grandsons, Jeffrey Porter and David (Paula) Porter, both of Washington, two great-granddaughters, Courtney Anna and Mary Beth Porter, both of Washington and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She is the sister of the late Bernard T. Sr. (Dorothy) Allen, late Charles K. (Gertrude Schad) Allen, late Arthur (late Ethelyn) Allen, late Roland (Virginia) Allen and the late Elsie Ahl.

     Age 98, of Elba died peacefully Wednesday Feb. 23, 2011 at the Genesee County Nursing Home. She was born October 18, 1912 daughter of the late Charles & Pauline (Monachino) Zambito; she was married to Frank Mingionie who preceded her in death in 1981 and by siblings Frank, Paul, Anthony, Joseph, Charles, Philippa Zambito and Pauline Augello. She was a loving mother, sister and grandmother who will be remembered for her beautiful smile. A devoted member of St. Padre Pio Parish where she attended regularly until her health prevented her from doing so.

     Surviving is her beloved daughter Mary Ann Conley of Elba and her children Nicholas & Anmarie Conley; sisters Rose Dowd of Rochester and Sue Zambito of Elba; sister-in-law Alta Zambito; special niece Carol Anderson along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Hugh F. Underhill Darien Center - Mr. Hugh F. Underhill, 84, of Darien Center, died Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at his home while under the care of HomeCare & Hospice.

Mr. Underhill was born December 23, 1926 in Batavia, a son of the late George and Caroline Cooper Underhill. Mr. Underhill also worked at Batavia Metal Products for 21 years prior to working at Attica Package Company. He served during World War II with the Air Force.

He is survived by his wife, Alice J. Warner Underhill whom he married November 6, 1948 two sons, Donald Underhill of Wyoming and William (Maryann)  Underhill of Tonawanda; a daughter, Linda (David) Edinger of Tully; six grandchildren, Michelle Taubman, Matthew and Courtney Edinger, Megan and Joshua Underhill and Ryan; three great-grandchildren; a brother, David (Judy) Underhill of Batavia; two sisters, Carolyn (Jay) Smith and Ruth (David) Rigerman, both of Batavia; a sister-in-law, Florence Underhill of Batavia and several nieces and nephews.

He is the brother of the late Charles, Ted and Archie Underhill.

There are no prior calling hours. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Elba. Albert Emerson Hay, 87, of Akron, died Sunday (February 20, 2011) at Weinberg Campus, Rosa Coplon Nursing Facility in Getzville after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Windsor, Ontario on July 9, 1923, a son of the late Andrew and Elizabeth Sayers Hay.

Mr. Hay was retired from Westinghouse  in Cheektowaga and enjoyed living at his cottage. 

Surviving is his wife, Thelma "Ozzie" Getman Hay of Akron.  Step children, Pamela (Melvin) Faulker of Akron, JoAnne (Mark) Forbach of Williamsville, Elizabeth Riccio of West Seneca, Amy (Steven) Parke of Kempner, TX, Michael (Sue) Getman of Waterford, NY and Theodore (Tracy) Getman of Orangeport, NY. Twelve grand-children, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. He is the brother of Dorothy Hooper of Buffalo and the late Barbara Hay, James Hay, Jerold Hay, Michael Hay, Salina Noonan and Eileen Ziolkowski.

Veronica Ann Chilano, 91 of Batavia, NY. Died February 20, 2011 at the Batavia Nursing Home.

Born January 8, 1920 in Warsaw, New York. She is daughter of the late James (Bernice Millspaugh) Hayes. Mrs. Chilano retired from working with the New York State Police at the Troop A Barracks in Batavia. She was an avid card player and loved crossword puzzles. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Russell L. Chilano and her brother James Hayes. She is survived by her son Joseph J. (Meg) Chilano of Batavia; daughter Patricia Chilano of Batavia; grandchildren Michael (Catherine) Chilano of Rochester; Andrew Chilano of Akron; great-grandchildren Samantha and Nicholas Chilano; Godson Victor “Chip” Poole of Batavia, along with several nieces and nephews also survive.

Batavia- Miss Diane Marie Lowe, 52, of Batavia, an Insurance Broker at Carmichael Insurance Agency in Oakfield, died Sunday, February 20, 2011 at Strong Memorial Hospital after a year long battle with cancer surrounded by her loving family.

Miss Lowe was born September 7, 1958 in Batavia, a daughter of Arthur "Buzz" and Carol (Oakes) Lowe, both of Oakfield.

She attended the Oakfield Community Bible Church, formerly played in the hand bell choir and sang in the church choir.  She was a member of the Oakfield Alabama High School Class of 1976 and former member of the Genesee Valley Women's Bowling Association.  She enjoyed her many trips to Disney World and was an avid fan of the Disney character "Goofy".  She also enjoyed arts and crafts, softball and reading.

She was formerly employed at the Genesee County Nursing Home and P.W. Minor Shoe Factory. 

Surviving along with her parents are a brother, Buzz (Debbie) Lowe of Oakfield; 2 sisters, Janice (Mark) Colopy and Joanne (Jeff) Qamoos, both of Oakfield; a special Friend, Jim Carmichael; 4 nieces, Sarah Lowe, Ashley Colopy, Jessica Colopy and Kellie (Robert) Buchanan; a nephew, Buzzie (Amanda) Lowe; 3 great-nieces, Laney, Morgan and Madison and a great-nephew, Austin.

Teresa T. Dehm, 82 of Batavia, NY. Died Saturday February 19, 2011 peacefully at her home.

Born February 23, 1928 in Elba, NY she is daughter of the late Mathias (Helen Meyer) Tretter. Mrs. Dehm was a graduate of Elba Central and Rochester Business Institute.

She retired from the Batavia School District. Teresa was a member of Resurrection Parish-St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, a volunteer for Hospice Family Care and All Babies Cherished.

She is preceded in death by two sisters Mary Tretter and sister Teresa Marie.  She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years Kenneth Dehm of Batavia; children Marie (Craig) Peterson of Syracuse, John (Laurie) Dehm of Stafford; Jayne (Mark) Mariano of Greece; siblings Isabella Rada, Paul (Peggy) Tretter, Carl (Irene) Tretter, Joan (Donald) Moynihan, 6 grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews also survive.

Michael J. Bowen, 43 of Elba died February 16, 2011 peacefully at his home surrounded by his family. Born September 18, 1967 in Batavia, NY. He is son of the late Robert Bowen and Mary Ann (Mazur) Bowen of Batavia. Mike worked as a Master Locksmith at Advance Safe & Lock in Rochester. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church. Mike was an avid outdoorsman that loved to hunt and fish. Most importantly he was a loving father and husband.

He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years Denise E. (Pflaumer) Bowen of Elba; beloved children Michael R., Luke G., and Lexee E. Bowen all of Elba; brothers Robert (Ingrid) of Elba; John (Wendy) of Batavia; Daniel (Tara) Bowen of Batavia; sisters Margaret (Bruce) Bowen-Jones of CA; Kathleen Bowen of MI; Mary Beth Bowen of Batavia; mother-in-law Kathleen Pflaumer-Bush of Elba; along with many nieces and nephews also survive.

Stafford - Mr. Paul A. Hendel, 49, of Stafford, a Captain at Groveland Correctional Facility, died Thursday, February 17, 2011 at his home.

Mr. Hendel was born November 13, 1961 in Buffalo, the son of Charles (Lynn) Shorten of Gainesville, FL and the late Nancy (Ottney) Hendel.

Mr. Hendel was a Captain for 26.5 years for the New York State Department of Corrections at Attica Correctional Facility and most recently at Groveland Correctional Facility. He was also a member of the Stafford Fire Department.

Surviving along with his father are his beloved companion, Karen Nostrant of Stafford; three daughters; Emily (Michael) Colletta of Elmira, Cassandra Hendel and Allyson Hendel and their mother, Diane Hendel all of Attica, two brothers; Peter Hendel of Tonawanda and Kenneth (Stacy) Shorten of FL; three sisters; Mindy (Mike) Clapp of Gainesville, FL, Debbie (Mike) Zawela of Jacksonville, FL, and Heather (Mike) Groat of Tonawanda; a grandson, Charles Colletta of Elmira. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Beatrice M. (Conibear) Warlick, 82 of Corfu, NY died February 16, 2011 at Rochester General Hospital. She was born December 15, 1928 in Buffalo, New York to the late Michael E. (Myrtle M. Lance) Klein. Mrs. Warlick raised and deeply cared for 26 foster children. Beatrice worked for many years driving bus for the Pembroke School System. She loved crocheting, reading, cooking and traveling with her sisters. Most of all she enjoyed and loved her grandchildren with her entire heart. She was preceded in death by her first husband William Conibear; daughters Carolyn Conibear and Linda Cond; brothers Charles, Ronald and Michael Klein. 

She is survived by her husband Rodney R. Warlick of Corfu, NY; sons William (Bonnie) Conibear of E. Pembroke; Charles (Kathleen) Conibear of Darien; step-sons James Warlick of Vietnam; Frank Warlick of CA; step-daughter Mary Beth (Joseph) Abrams of NC; sisters RoseMary (William) Klein of PA; Nancy (James) VanDeWalker of Batavia; 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter along with many nieces and nephews also survive.

Batavia - Mr. Wayne L. Cole, 63, of Batavia, machinist at Graham Manufacturing Corporation in Batavia, retiring on March 31, 2009, died Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Crossroads House.

Mr. Cole was born March 2, 1947 in Batavia, a son of the late Floyd and Roberta Dixon Cole.

A 1965 graduate of Elba Central School and U.S. Army veteran, he worked at Graham's for 32 years, where he enjoyed pulling pranks on his fellow co-workers. Wayne was an avid lover of classic cars including his 1955 Chevy and Corvettes. In spite of his illness, he always maintained a positive attitude on life.

His wife, Susan Norton Cole, died May 11, 2008.

Survived by his loving children, Lisa (Nick Pieramico) Cole and Denice (Frank) Sage; step-sons, Daniel (Tracy Puzan) Milliman and Paul (Laura) Milliman; granddaughters, Samantha Sage, Cassandra Dembik, Clairissa Milliman and Trejah Mims; brother, Richard (Barb) Cole; sisters, Susan (David) Mudrzynski and Cheryl (Ken) Moore; brothers-in-law, Robert (Judy) Norton, Eugene (Josie) Boldt and Ellsworth Jr. (Carol) Norton; sisters-in-law, Beverly Reamer, Marjorie (Dave) German, Joyce (Ron) Sixt, Linda (late John) Richenberg and Sharon Cole and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his brother Gerald Cole.

Batavia - Mrs. Matilda J. Fairbanks, 94, of Batavia, died Monday, February 14, 2011 at the Genesee County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Fairbanks was born August 20, 1916 in Castile, a daughter of the late John and Matilda Spinnegan Coffey.

A member of the Batavia First United Methodist Church, Mrs. Fairbanks enjoyed bowling. She enjoyed spending time and traveling with her family.

Her husband, Lester Fairbanks, died March 31, 1968.

Survivors include two sons, Lowell (Elaine) Fairbanks of Batavia and Norman (Sharon) Fairbanks of Byron; a daughter, Carol (Carmelo) LoVerdi of Byron; her sister-in-law, Lorna Hoffman of Michigan; 13 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Mary Downing, Frances Morgan, Gertrude Moat, Catherine Van Scoter, Alice Coffey, Adelaide Sage, Cornelius, William and John Coffey and sister-in-law of the late Doris Taber.

Francis W. "Curly" Countryman, 82 died Sunday February 13 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Mr. Countryman was born in Milford, NY on December 4, 1928. He is son of the late Bert (Blanche VanDewerker) Countryman. He was a graduate of Afton Central School. Curly worked for many years as a farmer with his father and brothers, he owned Countryman Enterprises and retired as a manager from GLF & Agway. He was a workaholic and “Jack of all trades” that loved people and life to the fullest. He is preceded in death by son Richard Countryman; two brothers Ivan and Robert Countryman; sister Ruth Barnard and granddaughter Marissa Ozzimo.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years Patricia (Richards) Countryman of Perry; daughter Kathleen Ozzimo of Perry; daughter-in-law Carol Countryman of Mt. Morris; sisters Betty Zimmer of Arcade; Shirley (Edward) Sargeaunt of Sarasota, FL; sisters-in-law Beverly Countryman of Lime Lake; Beverly Richards of Akron; Aloris Richards of Delevan; grandchildren Malena, Salena Ozzimo; Bryan, Evan Countryman along with many special friends, nieces and nephews also survive.

LeRoy - Mrs. Nellie Crompton, 97, of LeRoy and formerly of Batavia, died Friday, (February 11, 2011) at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home.

Mrs. Crompton was born December 3, 1913 in Batavia, the daughter of the late Glenn and Edna (DeWolf) Hutton.

Mrs. Crompton was an assistant cook at the New York State School for the Blind in Batavia. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Batavia, where she belonged to the Wentworth Class. Mrs. Cromtpon was also a member of the Holland Purchase Historical Society, IARP and the Business Girls Home Demonstration of Cooperative Extension Agency.

Survivors include her dear friend, Barbara Dunton of Renton, Washington and her family.

She is predeceased by her husband, Arthur Crompton and her son, Paul Glenn Crompton.

Irmgard “Monica” Wohlsclagel, 82 of Batavia, NY. Died Saturday February 12, 2011 at the United Memorial Medical Center. She was born May 30, 1928 in Wormsam Rhein, Germany. Daughter of the late Adam (Anna Kafenberger) Weick. Mrs. Wohlsclagel is also preceded in death by her brother Klaus Weick.

She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years Glenn Wohlsclagel of Batavia along with several nieces and nephews.
