  Marilyn J. Riley, age 79 of Rochester, NY formerly of Perry passed away on Sunday September 25, 2022 at Rochester General Hospital. She was born on September 26, 1942 in Warsaw, NY a daughter to the late Roy and Merle (Rutherford) Handy. Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Raymond E. Riley who passed away in 2013 and a brother: Donald Handy.

Marilyn was a 1960 graduate of Perry Central High School. She was a cashier for the former Star Market in Perry. Marilyn loved to do crafts and work on her gardens.

She is survived by 2 daughters: Tammy (Rob) Shaw of Webster, Shelley (Dan) Elzer of Longwood, Fl., 1 son: Jeffrey (Cheryl) Riley of Orlando, Fl., 4 sisters: Reba (Rich) Baker of Bradenton, Fl., Millie (Bob) Gaylord of Stafford, Mary Babcock of Pavilion, Donna (Rick) Rekkerth of Scottsville, 2 brothers: Ronald (Sue) Handy of Apopka, Fl., William Handy of Costa Rica, 5 grandchildren: Joshua (Heather) Leader, Nathan (Kristen) Leader, Megan (Matthew) Bishop, Kristen (Adrian Pardo) Shaw, and Adam (Nicole) Riley, 10 great grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

Oakfield - William I. Morris "Bill", 77  of Oakfield,  passed away peacefully on Monday, September 26, 2022 at Orchard Rehab and Nursing Center in Medina.

Mr. Morris was born February 4, 1945 in Batavia, the son of the late Henry and Frances (Distler) Morris.

He was a long time member of the Oakfield United Methodist Church and a former member of the Genesee Sno-Packers and the Oakfield-Alabama Lions Club. Bill enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, fishing with his grandchildren, and working with his hands. Skilled in woodcraft he volunteered on restoring the Medina Rail Road Museum and was a tinkerer at heart. Bill was not a perfectionist but could fix anything the "Morris Way". Bill worked for over 30 years at Kodak and following his retirement worked for several years at RIT. He was proud to hold 9 patents.

Bill Leaves behind a loving wife, Karen (Johnson) Morris; children, Wendy (James) Mountain of Clarence and Michael (Lynnette) Morris of Oakfield; grandchildren Ethan Mountain, Carter Mountain, and Garrett Morris; along with several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his sisters Bethley McKinney and Joan (late Henry “Bud”) Manzler.

Honoring Bill's request, no visitation. Family and friends are invited at attend a graveside service on Monday (October 3, 2022) at 12:30 p.m. in Cary Cemetery in Oakfield. A Celebration of Bill’s Life will follow from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at The Caryville Inn, 25 Main Street in Oakfield.

LeRoy ~ Amy Rebecca Sellhorst, age 37, passed away Wednesday morning (Sept. 28, 2022) at Strong Memorial Hospital in the loving presence of her family.

   

  She was born September 13, 1985 in Batavia, a daughter of Allen Sellhorst and Sandra Makosy Sellhorst.

     Amy will be remembered as a loving mother, daughter, sister, niece and dear friend.  She was a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology, loved to cook and enjoyed writing and hosting and entertaining for her family and friends.  Amy also had a deep love for animals and rescued many cats and dogs from shelters.

     In addition to her parents, Allen and Sandra, Amy is survived by her son, Aiden Dyer and daughter, Stevie Rebecca Panek; sister, Heather Sellhorst; boyfriend, Dan Panek, along with many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Batavia - Nancy D. Martin, age 94, passed away on September 28, 2022.

She was the daughter of Porter M. and Grace Tuttle Davis.

She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Roger P. Martin; children, David and Melanie; 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

  William G. Emerson, 88, of Byron passed away on September 27, 2022 at Crossroads House in Batavia. He was born on December 31, 1933 in Nanty-Glo, Pennsylvania to the late Thomas and Goldie Mae Bracken. William is predeceased by his wife; Barbara (Foreman) Emerson; daughter Linda Grimes; son William “Billy” Emerson; his aunt Jean Connah, who raised him; brothers Steve, Jack, Tom and David Emerson.    

Bill was a United States Army veteran. He worked as a pipe fitter at Kodak for many years. He loved hunting and fishing, feeding Blue Jays and napping on the porch. Bill enjoyed watching The Price is Right, reading autobiographies and listening to the local radio. He was a devoted member of the Byron Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his son; Dale Emerson; grandchildren Mike (LeAnn) Emerson, Greg (Sarah) Emerson, Jessica (Nick) Gregori and Sara Emerson; great-grandchildren Aubrey, Lillian, Lianna, Kayla, Addison, Avery and Benson; great-great-grandson Andre, along with many nieces and nephews.

Linda Rose Hume (Bernard) of Batavia was reunited with her beloved parents on the

morning of Sunday September 25^th, 2022, at the age of 70.

Linda was born on April 29th, 1952, in Batavia, NY to the late George and Caroline Bernard. She was their miracle child and after many years of praying, they were blessed with having Linda.

Linda is survived by her devoted partner of 32 years Patrick Lyons, her son William (Joyce) Hume, and her grandchildren Erica (Dallas) Logsdon and Brittany (Patrick) Krantz, her cousin Mary Thompson of Cheektowaga, and her former husband William Hume of Arizona.

She is predeceased by her parents George and Caroline.

Linda was a devoted mother and spent many years as a stay-at-home mom. She enjoyed several years as an in-home health aide, as well as working in retail. She loved to help people and to make a difference in their lives with compassion and kindness. She was an animal lover and an avid collector of all things Snoopy. She had the best sense of humor and did not offend easily.

Although her loss leaves a huge void in the hearts of her family, they take comfort in knowing that she is in Heaven with her parents that she has missed greatly. 

The physical restrictions of this world no longer have a hold on her life, she is finally free.

There will be no prior calling hours, her family will be holding a private celebration of life to honor Linda.

Virginia L. Goodman “Jinny”, 77 of Batavia, passed away peacefully Tuesday (September 20, 2022) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY.

She was born July 3, 1945 in Batavia, NY, a daughter of the late Norman Thompson and Norma Bates Thompson Nixon.

Virginia was a floral designer for the former Enchanted Florist in Batavia. She enjoyed sewing, shopping, reading and traveling.

She was the sister of the late Rebecca (late Winston) Johnson

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Allen Goodman of Batavia. Daughters, Heidi (Nathan) Blowers of Alexander and Yvette (Anthony) Rood of Maryland. Grandchildren, Brennan (Tara) Blowers, Hayden Blowers, Deven (Sydney) Blowers, Tyler Rood and Noah Rood. Great-grandchildren, Ellie, Piper and Molly Blowers. Nephew, Daniel (Lauren) Johnson.

Lakeland, FL and Batavia – Margaret Jeanne “Peg” McIntire-Worthington, died on Sunday Morning, September 25, 2022 at The Club at Lake Gibson Nursing Home in Lakeland, Florida. She was 92.

Peg was born on October 12,1929 in Barnesboro, PA, a daughter of the late William and Mary Belle (Irvin) DeHaven.

She was a 1947 graduate of Shannock Valley High School and a 1965 graduate of St. Francis School of Practical Nursing. She attended Zanesville Community College and Ohio State University where she was certified as a Nursing Home Administrator. She had worked as a nurse at the former Genesee Memorial Hospital and Batavia Nursing Home where she became the Assistant Administrator. She was the Administrator of the Cuba Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility and retired as the Administrator of St. Joseph’s Manor in Olean.

She had attended City Church in Batavia, Victory Church and Lake Gibson Nazarene Church in Lakeland, FL. She was a member of the Guys and Gals Club, Northgate Prime Timers and was an award-winning needle pointer.

She was the mother of the late Rodney H. McIntire who died in 1976 and wife of the late Rev. Harold E. “Mac” McIntire who died in 1999 and the late George Russell “Russ” Worthington who died in 2009 and sister of the late James DeHaven, G. Donald DeHaven and Eleanor Propst and step-grandmother of the late Justin Jacobs.

Surviving are her 3 children, Linda (Duane) Chamberlain, Cinda (David) DeFreze and Randy (Colleen) McIntire all of Lakeland, FL; 5 grandchildren, Christopher (Lisa) Chamberlain of Syracuse, Shannon (Steve) Beardsley of Piffard, Gregory DeFreze of Rochester, Lisa (Christopher) Lavrey of Batavia and Jeffery McIntire  (Cynthia) Reynolds) of Lakeland, FL; 14 great-grandchildren, Lindsay Chamberlain, Benjamin Chamberlain, Andrew Beardsley, Joshua Beardsley, Trenton DeFreze, Gabriella DeFreze, Jaydon DeFreze, Mackenzie Lavrey, Derek McIntire, Kayla McIntire and Randy McIntire II, Kayla Reynolds, Brianna Reynolds and Julia Reynolds; sisters-in-law, Lois DeHaven of Mayville and Janice Fortner of MD, Barbara McIntire of IA; brothers-in-law, Edward Worthington of Batavia and Paul (Beverly) Worthington of VA; stepchildren, George (Clara) Worthington of Marion, John Worthington of Batavia, David (Elaine) Worthington of SC and Thomas (Alyson) Worthington of NH; step-grandchildren, Heather (Jason) Wertz, Waverly (Mark) Grutadtaurio, Daniel Worthington, Winifred (Scott) Gildner, Anna (Raymond) Patnode, Patty (James) Jacobs, Kenneth (Bonnie) Worthington, Cheryl (Michael) Finn, Cara Worthington, Melinda (Brandon) Brown, Paige Worthington and Erik Worthington; step-great-grandchildren,  Scott Gilder, Selma (George) Fisher, Raymond Patnode IV, Darlene (Shawn) Klineline, John Jacobs, Meghan Jacobs, Jeramy Jacobs, Samantha Finn, Abigail Finn Caleb Finn, Brianna Worthington, Nathan Tolson and Emily Brawn; several step-great-great-children, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great-nephews.

Gary F. Capuano, 64, of Batavia, passed away on September 25, 2022.

Gary was born August 18, 1958 in Batavia, a son of Louise (Grasso) Capuano of Batavia and the late Larry Capuano.

Gary enjoyed spending time with his family, cooking and taking trips.  He was the maintenance manager for the Batavia Housing Authority.  Gary will be remembered for his caring and adventurous spirit.

Surviving along with his mother are his children, Theodore J. (Katrina) Capuano of Florida, Maria (Travis) Ross of Elba and Ann Capuano of Batavia; sisters, Linda Baker and Karen Capuano; brothers, Dennis (Pam) Capuano and Donald (Cheryl) Capuano; ten grandchildren, one great-grandchild and nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his wife, Laura A. Capuano; son, David Capuano; brother, David Capuano and his mother-in-law, Patricia Jasinski.

Calling hours are Tuesday, October 4 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co.   Ann M. Zalenski, age 88, of East Bethany passed away peacefully on Sunday September 25, 2022 at the Leroy Village Green Rehabilitation unit. She was born on June 22, 1934 in Alden to the late Raymond and Helena (Hamann) Armstrong. In addition to her parents, Ann is predeceased by her loving husband of 31 years; Joseph Zalenski Jr. and 11 of her siblings.

Ann’s selflessness and love for her family has influenced many generations. All who knew her were extremely fortunate to have had Ann in their lives. She was always supportive and helpful, and always welcomed visits and coffee chats with her friends and family. Ann never forgot a birthday or anniversary! Along with being talented when it came to crafts and sewing, she was best known for her amazing baking abilities. Her cookies, breads and pies were always holiday favorites. She loved playing cards, cheering on the Buffalo Bills and going on casino trips with her sister, daughter and niece.

Ann is survived by her devoted daughter; Joann (Edward) Grice; her sister Lorraine Riley; along with many nieces, nephews, and countless great nieces and nephews and cousins.

There will be no prior calling hours and a private Graveside Service will be held at St. Joseph’s Mausoleum in Batavia. An 11:00am luncheon will follow the service on Tuesday September 27th at the Polish Falcons on S. Swan St. in Batavia,

Joseph E. Wyffels, 84, of Batavia passed away peacefully on September 23, 2022 at the Grand Rehabilitation & Nursing Home. He was born in Canandaigua on July 23, 1938 to the late Joseph and Emily Wyffels. Joe is also predeceased by his siblings.

He is survived by his daughters; Debra (Rick) Bastiano of Batavia and Trisha (Michael) Margarone of Webster; 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Bergen - Beverly J. Dilcher, 78 of Bergen, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at Crossroads House.

Mrs. Dilcher was born Friday, April 21st, 1944 in Robinson, Pennsylvania a daughter of the late Lloyd Smith and Sarah Busch Smith.

She was the head cook for 28 years at the New York State School for the Blind in Batavia. Along with her late husband, Dayton, they would drive their RV to Lake George for vacation. Since 2010, she camped at Skyline RV & Camping Resort. She loved to cook and work word search puzzles.

Beverly is the wife of Dayton D. Dilcher Jr. who passed away on June 28, 2021.

Surviving are her children, Ryeder (Dawn) Dilcher of Byron, New York and Cammy Young of Trout Run, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren, Mark Dilcher of Byron, Kyle Dilcher of Bergen, Sheena (Tyler Hamilton) Dilcher of Byron and Colton Young; her brother, Roger (Gloria) Smith of Batavia; her sister, Joyce Smith of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania along with several nieces and nephews.

 She is predeceased by her siblings, Rev. William Smith, Frederick Smith and Connie Bird.

LeRoy ~ Maridee J. O'Geen, age 83, of Maple Avenue, passed away Tuesday evening (Sept. 20, 2022) at Strong Memorial Hospital in the loving presence of her family.

  

   She was born January 3, 1939 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Cosmo and Dorothe Lake Battaglia.

     Maridee will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend, who spent over 30 years as a local nurse, caring for many families.  She was a 1957 graduate of Notre Dame High School.  She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends.

     She is survived by her children, Chuck O’Geen Jr. and Carol O’Geen both of LeRoy; her sisters, Patricia (Norb) Becker of Batavia and Kathleen (Bruce) Manuel of Venice Center, NY; her loving and devoted canine companion, “Hawke”, along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.  She was predeceased by her husband, Charles P. “Red” O’Geen in 2006.

Elba - We are sad to announce the peaceful passing of Rita Mengs on Tuesday, September 20th at the age of 86 after a lengthy illness.

Rita was born on January 9th, 1936, daughter of Clayton and Marie Sheffer of Stafford, and resided in Elba for 65 years. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.

Rita was a long time member of the Elba Auxiliary. She was happiest in her home, which she took great pride in. Rita loved baking pies while listening to country music, as well as traveling with her husband, including cherished trips to Branson, MO. She never missed a chance to spend time with her loved ones.

Survived by her husband, Leslie Mengs of 69 blissful years. Children, Julie (Keith) Richenberg of North Carolina and Jeffrey Mengs of New York. Grandchildren, Bradley (Lena) Richenberg of Virginia, Kaitlin (Zachary) Spencer of North Carolina and Matthew Richenberg of Hawaii. Beloved great grandson, Harrison Spencer.

Nicole Rae (Burdick) Leo, age 43, passed away unexpectedly on September 14, 2022.

   

  She was a very caring and devoted RN at the Batavia Veterans Nursing Home.

     She leaves behind a loving husband, Brian Scott Leo; his son, Ryan; father, Raymond Burdick and mother, Diane Burdick (Watson); sisters, Corina, Shannon, Sarah; a brother, Elijah; nieces, Raegan and Riley, along with many other beloved family members and friends.

     Nicole will be dearly missed and will always hold a special place in our hearts.
