Horace J. Lazarony Jr., 90 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday (December 28, 2021) at Premier Genesee Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born September 26, 1931 in Dunkirk, NY, a son of the late Horace J. Lazarony Sr. and Winifred Doyle Lazarony.

Horace was the owner for over 25 years of the former Kentucky Fried Chicken which was located on East Main St. in Batavia. He was an avid horseback trail rider and enjoyed camping. He loved his family and cherished time spent with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his children, David (Mary) Lazarony of PA, Jay (Donna) Lazarony of Batavia, Jerry Lazarony of Ohio, Ruth (Joe) Jensen of Avon and James (Diana) Lazarony of Corfu. Sister, Janet Lazarony of Florida. Also survived by 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Jane Minich Lazarony. Brothers, Joseph Lazarony and John Lazarony.

Rose M. Golino, 95 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday (December 29, 2021) at United Memorial Medical Center.

She was born June 7, 1926 in Utica, NY, a daughter of the late Francesco and Vincenza Girinei Pensiero.

Rose was retired from Clairol Cosmetic Co. in Connecticut and moved to Batavia, NY to be closer to family about 15 years ago. She was a strong, caring and kind hearted person who loved her family. They were the center of her life and will be missed dearly.

She was predeceased by her husband, Antonio Golino and brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her children, Cecilia (Frank) Chesnick of Batavia, Antonio (Andrea) Golino III of Byron and Vincenza (Ashraf) Ammar of Batavia. Sisters in-law, Victoria Pensiero and Mary Golino, both of Stamford, CT. Also survived and cherished by 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior visitation and funeral services will be held at a later date. She will be laid to rest in St. John Catholic Cemetery in Darien, CT.

Anna Louise Baer, 88 of Batavia, passed away peacefully Thursday (December 30, 2021) at LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home.

She was born January 1, 1933 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Arthur and Nellie Gage Gould.

Survivors include her children, Jackie (Craig) Washabaugh of Frankfort, KY, Martin Baer Jr., Michael (Loretta) Baer and Richard Baer, all of Batavia. Sister, Charlotte Draper of Batavia. Also survived by 6 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, nieces and nephews.

She was the mother of the late Nora Wenzel and Ailene Wenzel and predeceased by 4 sisters and a brother.

Dorothy Ann “D.A.” Jamalkowski, 88 of Batavia, passed away peacefully Friday (December 31, 2021) at United memorial Medical Center.

She was born May 13, 1933 in Batavia, a daughter of the late David and Dorothy Volz Walters.

She was a former bookkeeper for Terry Hills Golf Course prior to her retirement.

Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Raymond Jamalkowski of Batavia. Son, Tom Jamalkowski of Batavia. Brother, William (Judith) Walters of Macedon and several nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Gerald during this holiday season on December 30, 2021.  He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara (Rathbun) Blind; his brothers, Donald (Doris), Roland (Loraine), Edward (Caroline) and James (Shirley) Blind.

He is survived by his sister Patricia Marciano; his son Stephen (Pam) Blind and daughter Patricia (Edward) Dries; Grandchildren; Joshua (Denise) Dries, Cassandra (Jason) Bleuer, Melissa (Jeremy) Wannike, Christopher (Rebecca) Blind, and Michael (Candace) Blind; several great grandchildren; nieces, Virginia Tress, Susan (Michael) Martin; nephews, Jim Blind, Kevin Blind, Bob (Patricia) Blind, Bill Blind, Larry (Teresa) Blind, Tom (Mary) Blind, John, Edward, and Daniel Bielaski; and his good friend David Hurlbutt.

Gerald was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. When he returned home he started his career and retired with Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E).  Gerald enjoyed his time in the Amish Country of Pennsylvania and offered up his time to chauffeur the elderly to their appointments in Tel Hai. Gerald was a New York Yankees fan, loved automobiles, country music, minced pie, and staying warm in good flannel clothes.

No prior visitation. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church, 1301 Vintage Lane, Greece. Karl F. Dilcher, 87 of Oakfield, passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. He was born March 30, 1934 in Bergen, to the late Edward and Irene (Nye) Dilcher. He is preceded in death by a daughter Kathy Kozlowski, sisters, Joyce Bartholomew and Arlene Peck.  

Mr. Dilcher retired from Chapin Manufacturing in Batavia. He was an avid New York Yankees fan and loved watching NASCAR. Karl was a member of St. Padre Pio Parish. He enjoyed working in the garden and having coffee with the boys.  

Mr. Dilcher is survived by his beloved wife, Lorraine M. (Sformo) Dilcher of Oakfield, sons, Karl (Tammy) Dilcher of Oakfield, Michael (Donna) Dilcher of Marco Island, FL; sister Shirley Ribbeck of FL, 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, along with several nieces and nephews.

Nancy E. (Laird) Curtis, 73 of Batavia, lovingly known as “Gram-Cracker”, passed away peacefully Thursday (December 30, 2021) at Strong Memorial Hospital.

She was born September 15, 1948 in Warsaw, NY, a daughter of the late Vernon D. Laird and Helen Wargo Laird of Batavia.

Nancy was a graduate of Batavia High School and retired in December 2004 after nearly 30 years in the Personnel Dept. of Western Regional Off Track Betting of Batavia, NY. She was an excellent cook and baker and was known for her thoughtfulness and always putting others’ needs before her own.  Especially when it came to her beloved grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Donald R. Curtis of Alexander. Children, Kathleen (Todd) Bender of Batavia and Bradley (Michele) Rodon of Warsaw. Grandchildren, Ryan (fiancee, Courtney Canavan) Bender of Webster, Lindsey (fiance, Jason Hart) Bender of St. Petersburg, FL, Brittany (Matthew) Smart of Wyoming, NY and Evan (Savannah Bienias) Bender of Batavia. Siblings, Larry (Ellen Willard) of Lancaster and Susan (Terry) Zilenski of Oakfield. Sister-in-law Linda Snyder of Florida and brother-in-law, Robert (Renee) Curtis of California. Also surviving are 3 nieces, a nephew and many friends from Kelly’s Holland Inn.

She was predeceased by her father, Vernon Laird (1999). Brother, Richard Laird (killed in Vietnam in 1967). Sister, Patricia Laird (2014). In-laws, Dudley C. Curtis and Mildred R. Curtis.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Deborah Rose Kwiatek, age 67, of Darien Center, passed away on Tuesday December 28, 2021 at Buffalo General Hospital in Buffalo, NY.

She was born March 25, 1954, a daughter to the late Louis Arcese and Estelle (Monti) Bielecki. She is predeceased by her husband, Robert Kwiatek, her sister, Geraldine Story, and grandson, Gideon Sundown.

Surviving are her children, Shannon (Jamie) Johnson, Tammy Fuller, Shawn Kwiatek, Kristen Kwiatek (Randy Spring), Mallory McCann, Karli (Jharrett) Sundown, Carissa Kwiatek (Sean Zglinicki), Dylan Kwiatek, James (Taryn) Kwiatek, Gabrielle Kwiatek, and Isaac Kwiatek. She is also survived by her sisters, Nancy Meyers and Marylou Privitera and brother, Louis Arcese and her grandchildren, Breanna, Aralyse, Mackenna and Sydney Johnson, Morgan, Kelsey, Madison, Simon, and Kamryn Fuller, Paisley Loranty, Luke and Sawyer Mezydlo, Levi, Elijah and Randi Spring, Jaelyn Raszewski, Dominic Kwiatek, Lincoln McCann, Dylan Maciag, Daunte, Jasper and Atticus Sundown, Stella Kwiatek, Apollo and Archie Zglinicki, James Rachow, Killian Kwiatek, and Pierce Kwiatek.

Deborah will be most remembered for her love for her family. Her favorite moments were Sunday dinners at her house or enjoying a game of cards with her children or grandchildren. Her home was her happy place and was always filled with love and laughter. She had a kind, loving and graceful heart and always put others first. She was at her happiest with a baby in her arms. She fostered numerous children, for over 30 years, and was a mother figure to so many more within her community, which is how she gained the nickname, Mama Kwi. Her home was open to everyone and was a place of warmth and comfort as you stepped through the door and once you did, she was bustling around the kitchen to make sure you had a home cooked meal. Her genuine heart and character came from a life that was guided strongly by her faith, she took comfort in the word of the Lord.

Scott Nevinger, 62, from East Bethany, passed away December 28th, 2021.  Leaving behind his parents Elizabeth and Darryl Nevinger; his wife Susan Nevinger; his sister Denise Nevinger, brother Timothy Nevinger; two children, Justin and Sonia Nevinger, and two stepchildren, Ben and Jessica Rachow and six grandchildren.   

Scott was a loving husband and father with a contagious smile that brought joy to every room he entered.  He loved sports, especially hockey, and coached many leagues. He also had a love for fine foods, some may have even called him a ketchup connoisseur.  His many quirks and ability to spread love and kindness to everyone he met, will leave this remarkable man’s memory with us all.

  We’re sad to share that Rosemarie “Rosl" "Rosie" Moeller, 94, of Attica passed away peacefully on Dec. 23, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family. However, sadness is not something one would have associated with Rosie; memories of her bring instant emotions of love, laughter, endless energy, and joy.  

Born on Nov. 9, 1927, Rosie had a full and vibrant life that included unique experiences, challenging hardships and remarkable journeys. Rosie met her husband Hans early in life in their hometown of Nuremberg, Germany where she worked as both a stenographer and our modern-day equivalent of a fitness class instructor. After losing everything in Germany as a result of WWII, Rosie married Hans and they began their adventure to America, the land of opportunity. With an invitation from a distant cousin, they came by ship in separate quarters arriving with a single trunk of belongings, the contents of which did not survive the journey.  

Being a non-native speaker in a new country came with its fair share of challenges, but Rosie worked hard at odd jobs to make ends meet while building her vocabulary and her community. Eventually, Hans and Rosie, with the support of the wonderful people of Attica, embarked on their next adventure - the opening of "Hans Moeller Jewelers."  Hans would tell you that his "Rosl" was the Boss, and she certainly was. She handled every aspect of the business from purchasing, sales, accounting, and of course managing her Star employee Hans, who never let her down.

Together Rosie and Hans started a family and raised their children while their business and circle of friends continued to grow and prosper. Through all they endured, Rosie lived a life of happiness, gratitude, and joy. She was a force of life entertaining all with her singing, jokes, parties, musical performances, and rum-filled cakes.  From her infamous New Year’s gatherings to the ski slopes of Vail, wherever Rosie was, a "party" followed.

Rosie was a remarkable woman with a personality larger than can be conveyed through these words. She overcame adversity and filled her life with positivity that was passed down to her children, grandchildren, and all who were lucky enough to know her.  She is survived by her daughter Susan & Stephen Mazmanian, son Bob & Vicki Moeller, and grandchildren Erica Moeller and Rick & Emily Moeller.  

A special and heartfelt "thank you" to her phenomenal, loving caregivers and friends who were by her side on her last adventure.  We’re forever grateful.

One of Rosie's favorite events was the annual Attica Germanfest where she would lead the yodeling, dancing, singing, eating and beer drinking.  We know she'd want us to share… "Don't eat the German sausage! Why, you ask? It's the WURST."

Batavia - Helen (nee Colantonio) Monachino, of Batavia, died peacefully at her home on December 28, 2021. This is the same home where she was born on March 20, 1923. Together with her devoted and loving husband of 62 years, the late Paul N. Monachino, they raised their four children, Rosemarie Monachino, Cheryl Ann (Gary) Schmelzer, Mary Jean (Rick) DiMartino, and Paul (Jeanine) Monachino. She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren, Christine Lopardi, Jill (Eric) Szpylman, Gary (Jessica) Schmelzer, Megan  (Derek Scott) DiMartino, Richard DiMartino, Eric DiMartino, Shellie (Greg Adams) DiMartino, Kylie Monachino, Patrick (Erika) Monachino, and Ethan (Nichole Wilson) Monachino; seven great-grandchildren, Alexander Hammann, Isabella Lopardi, Michael Lopardi, IV, Matthew Szpylman, Avery Szpylman, Lucas Schmelzer, and Lexi Scott; several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Joan Monachino; her parents, Joseph and Antoinette Colantonio; her two brothers, Nicholas Colantonio and Michael Colantonio; and a sister, Mary Peiliker.

There will be no prior calling hours, due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Family and friends are invited to Helen’s Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. on Monday, (January 3, 2022) at Ascension Parish, 19 Sumner Street in Batavia. Basom - Jeanette N.  Benben, age 90, member of the Alabama Basom United Methodist Church, passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Orchard Rehab and Nursing Center in Medina.

She was born Monday, May 18th, 1931 in Alabama, New York a daughter of the late Norman Ostrander and Dorothy Pask Ostrander.

Jeanette is the wife of Chester P. "Chet" Benben who passed away on August 14, 2009.

Surviving are her children, Daniel (Monica) Benben of Plano, Texas, Ronald (Late Paula) Benben  of Basom, and Norma (Gary) Seever  of Medina; her sister, JoAnn (John) Tauscher of Oakfield; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

She is predeceased by her grandson, Brandon Benben and her brother, Donald (Beatrice) Ostrander.

Bergen - Martin B. Leggo, 94 of Bergen passed away on Monday, (December 27, 2021) at his home.

Mr. Leggo was born June 15, 1927 in Beaver Meadows, Pennsylvania a son of the late Joseph and Anna (Baddick) Leggo. Martin was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, JoAnn (Peters) Leggo.

Marty was a Navy veteran of World War II, and bricklayer with over 70 years in BAC Local 3 of Rochester. He was an accomplished Beagler, past President and lifetime member of the Pioneer Beagle Club.

Surviving are his children, Jacqueline "Jacky" (Ronald "Skip") Smith, Kathleen "Kathi" (Fred “Freddy”) Mintz, and Martin "Joe" Leggo; grandchildren, Kyle Pangrazio, Rebecca "Becki" (fiance Mark Robbins) Rodriguez, Joseph "Joey" Mintz, Colby Leggo, Justine (Tim) Ramos, Dawn (Rob) Marsceill, Abby (Ryan) Rutherford, Beth (Steve) O'Shea, Cathi Zimmer; great-grandchildren, Jo, Hunter, Joseph, Emily, Isabella, Ava, Cheyenne, Xander, Cooper, Brandon, Dominic, Cache, Ella, Gabriella, Ty, Jaiden, Kalib, and Elyssa. Marty was loved by extended family members Karen (Jack) Dearing and Richard (Vicki) Stenner. He was a mentor and great friend to many including numerous nieces and nephews.

  Lewis H. Henning, 84 of Batavia, passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. He was born December 26, 1937 in Pembroke, to the late George and Verna (Butler) Henning. He is preceded in death by brothers, Robert, Leland, Edward and George Henning, sister, Betty Mogenhan.

Mr. Henning was a 1956 graduate of Batavia High School. He managed supermarkets his entire career. Lou was on the Grand View Cemetery Board, Batavia Housing Authority Board and a past member of the Avon Rotary Club.

Mr. Henning is survived by his beloved wife, Carrie (Hosler) Henning of Batavia; children, Deborah (Jordan) Yager of Stafford, Bruce Henning of SC; grandchildren, Samantha (Timothy Bartz) Yager, Matthew, Jennifer, Carol Ann and Kenneth Henning; sisters, Joan (Don) Tullar of Oakfield, Linda (Glenn) Northup of Byron, Shirlene Edwards of Batavia; three great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.
