Elizabeth M. Shultz, 93, formerly of Batavia, passed away on November 21, 2021 at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital surrounded by family. Elizabeth was born in Batavia NY on September 28, 1928 to Earl and Marie Lawrence. On July 4, 1949 she married the love of her life, Donald Shultz Sr.

Along with her husband of 52 years, Elizabeth was predeceased by a daughter, Cathy Waggoner, two infant grandsons, her brother Robert Lawrence and sister Barbara White.

Elizabeth is survived by eight children, Michael Shultz (Irene), Deborah Pontillo (Michael), Christine Schaeffer (Terrell Price), Mary Lou Sima (Ronald), Donald Shultz Jr (Linda), Stephen Shultz (Mary), Elizabeth Hite (William), Margaret Schwallie (Thomas), sister Sandra Sluvecky and sister in law Fran Lawrence, and over thirty grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Throughout her life Elizabeth was very active in her many church parishes supporting Don, a Catholic deacon. She loved serving by his side. Elizabeth was widely known as a skilled crocheter as she made hundreds and hundreds of gifts such as doilies, afghans,  Christmas bells and angels. She loved all things Christmas which she passed down to her children. She was an avid gardener and had beautiful gardens in her many homes.

There will be no calling hours. A 9:30 a.m. Mass and Celebration of Life will be held Friday, November 26, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 18 Ellicott St, Batavia NY 14020.

Julie A. Stymus, 45, of Batavia, passed away on November 19, 2021.

Julie was born December 3, 1975 in Albion, a daughter of the late Ed Baxter and Carol (Jaczynski) Stymus.

She loved music and cooking and her grandchildren meant the world to her.  Julie will be remembered for her sense of humor and outgoing personality.

Surviving are her children, Christina Cotter, Manuel Mendoza Stymus, Jose Mendoza Stymus and Celena Deuel; grandchildren, Carson Cotter, Tahlia Mendoza, Princeton Mendoza, Lorenzo Brewer and Logan Deuel; brothers, Jeff Stymus and Mark Stymus; sister, Lisa Pitts; step-father, Paul Brown; her boyfriend, Jose Gutierrez and nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her sister, Kim Burns.

Harold C. Gould, age 93, of South Street Road Pavilion, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2021, at Highland Hospital in Rochester.
Harold was born in Walton, New York, the son of the late Richard Leon Gould and Harriet Lucinda Inman Gould. He graduated from Walton High School and served honorably in the United States Army with the 31st Field Artillery Battalion during World War Two. Harold earned his B.S. in Agriculture form Cornell University. After college, he managed the GLF “Agway” in Wyoming. He and Rose resided in Pavilion since 1956, where they owned and operated HaR-GO Farm LLC, a dairy farm that the family continues to operate today. Harold served his community through Farm Bureau, Cooperative Extension, and Soil Conservation, as well as on Pavilion School Board for many years. He was also an active longtime member of the Mary Immaculate Parish in Pavilion. 

Harold was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rose Marie Maimone Gould on September 21st 2019, whom he married on June 27th 1953. Survivors include his two sons; Charles Gould of Batavia, John (Susan) Gould of Pavilion, a daughter; Patricia (Richard) Merrill of Carlisle, PA, seven grandchildren, Kathleen (Bill) Zimmerman of Fairport, Michael (Theresa Brugarolas) Gould of Philadelphia, Stephen (Jill) Gould of Pavilion, Matthew (Melanie) Gould of Batavia, Daniel Merrill of Carlisle, PA, Sarah (Kevin) Finke of Manchester, MD, Elise Merrill of Bellefonte PA, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

George B. Parrish, 96 of Alexander, passed away at the home he built on November 20, 2021, where he was cared for by his family and dear caregivers. Staff at UMMC and Premier Genesee also provided great care for George.

George’s ancestors, some of the original pioneers who settled in Alexander, came from Randolph, VT in 1806. His ancestors were well known and prosperous dairy and grain farmers, on land they owned on Sandpit Road.

George grew up on the farm, helping his father with all of the farm work, milking cows and working in the fields. His farm was adjacent to the farm that the love of his life grew up on, Shirley J. Waite, whom he later married.

In July 1942, after George’s 17^th birthday, he went to Buffalo and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After basic training, he was stationed in Philadelphia, New Zealand, the Marshall Islands, and Guam. He was discharged in 1945. He returned to Alexander, a proud Marine and always proud of his service with the Corps. Semper Fi!

After coming home from active duty, he worked in his father’s hardware store, worked in construction in the plumbing trade, and worked and retired as manager of Attica Super Duper in 1987. After that retirement, he went back into the plumbing trade, working with several local building contractors. His work was his hobby, up until he again retired at the age of 90.

George worked on each of his children’s homes when being built, as well as the homes of many family members and people in the community. George volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, receiving the Golden Hammer Award for his 10 years of service working on their projects. He was a longtime member of Alexander United Methodist Church.

George was born in Alexander, on June 27, 1925, the son of George and Ruth Parrish. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by the love of his life, Shirley, who died February 16, 2019 and his sister Helen (Frank) Hampton. He is survived by his children, Laura (Joe) Schmieder of Alexander, Bob (Beth) Parrish of LeRoy, and Karen (Allan) Cecchini of Warsaw. Also surviving are grandchildren, Noel (Robyn) Good, Max Parrish, and Kate (Andy) Bogdan; two great-grandchildren, Nevan Good and Clara Bogdan; brother Arnold (Jane) Parrish, sisters Lois (late Charles) Newton and Delores (Brian) Martin; and many special nieces and nephews; and Darlene, his special caregiver.

Russell F. Hart, 81 of Darien Center, passed away on Friday, November 19, 2021 at Buffalo General Hospital. He was born in Buffalo, March 9, 1940 to the late Russell (Leola) Hart. He is preceded in death by his siblings.  

Russell was a proud United States Navy Veteran. He worked for many years at Erie County Water Authority. He was an avid NASCAR fan that enjoyed gardening, traveling, cooking and baking.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary J. Hart of Darien Center, sons, Mark (Liane) Hart of Indiana, Todd Hart of Syracuse, Dwayne (Anne) Hart of Batavia, Patrick (Jackie) Kennedy of North Carolina, Christopher Kennedy of Livonia, 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

Richard D. Farmer, 65, of Alexander, passed away on Tuesday (November 16, 2021) at Rochester General Hospital, due to complications of Covid-19.

Rich was born November 9, 1956, in Lancaster, NY, a son of the late Lawrence and Geraldine Gloss Farmer.

He was a quiet, gentle man with a wonderful sense of humor. Rich was a machinist by trade, but he most loved playing his bass guitar and singing in many popular bands in the Buffalo and Rochester areas. He loved being outdoors in nature, particularly in the mountains. Rich was devoted to his family and loved spending time at home with his wife Liz who he called his ‘Angel’ and his son, James, of whom he was extremely proud. Rich had a soft-spot for animals and loved his dogs, Oliver, Gracie and Reggie, along with several cats.      

Survivors include his beloved wife of 32 years, Elizabeth (Liz) Athoe Farmer of Alexander; cherished son, James R. Farmer of Alexander; brothers, Lawrence Jr. (Marie) Farmer of New Jersey, Frank (Sue) Farmer of South Carolina and Fred (Nancy) Farmer of Lancaster; sisters, Jean Farmer of North Carolina and Veronica (Ted Hinton) Farmer of Lancaster; father in-law, Harold W. Athoe, II, of Batavia; brothers in-law, Daniel (Debra) Athoe of Batavia, John (Vicki) Athoe of Batavia, Peter Athoe of Kentucky and Paul Athoe of Batavia. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his mother in-law, Marilyn Athoe, sisters in-law, Deborah DeMay and Laura Athoe, and his beloved nephew, Thomas Farmer.

Rich’s family will cordially receive guests at Resurrection Parish (St. Mary’s site), 18 Ellicott St., Batavia, on Saturday, December 11, 2021, from 9-9:30 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial which will begin at 9:30 am. Burial will be at a later date.

Harold Lynn Wilt (Linnie), 64, died on November 18, 2021 at Unity Hospital in Rochester following a brief illness.  

Harold was born at Genesee Memorial Hospital in Batavia on August 28, 1957 to Robert and Virginia (Waterson) Wilt, and he graduated from Oakfield-Alabama Central School in 1976.

Before relocating to Norfolk, Virginia, he worked at the US Gypsum mines from 1977-1988. Well-respected for his excellent work ethic, Harold recently retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation where he had been employed for 30 years.

A dedicated family man who loved to swim and spend time at the ocean, Harold recently returned to the area because he wanted to spend more time with family and friends.  

Harold is survived by his loving wife, Barbara (Shamblin) Wilt, whom he married in Hawaii on September 17, 1994; one daughter, Mandy (Randy) Gotham and two grandsons, Joseph and Nicholas, all of Orchard Park, New York; two brothers, Robert (Debbie) Wilt of Salem, Virginia and Terry (Julie) Waterson of Oakfield, New York; two generations of nieces and nephews as well as many friends and in-laws who loved him very much.

Harold was predeceased by his parents and one sister, Karen Wilt.

  Heaven received a new angel – on Sunday November 14, 2021, Meryl Irene (Kriger) Schum, loving wife and mother of three children passed away at age 93 while in hospice in Winston-Salem, NC. Meryl was born October 10, 1928 in Darien, NY to Charles and Elizabeth (Klossner) Kriger.

Meryl worked tirelessly and selflessly for over 35 years at New York Telephone and later AT&T, across three different states. On June 19, 1948 she married William Schum, with whom she shared over 70 magical years. Together they raised one daughter, Suzanne and two sons, Richard and Gary.

Meryl was passionate about helping her children and grandchildren, always providing emotional and financial support whenever it was needed. She loved to travel cross-country with her family and later, traveling to spend time with grandchildren and support their endeavors. Meryl took many trips with family and grandchildren to Walt Disney World always making sure that the kids had plenty of souvenirs and treats to take home. Meryl would often volunteer to work on a holiday so she could be off on a particular night to watch her son Gary play his high school hockey game. She was a fan of the Buffalo Bills, attending the last two Super Bowls the Bills played in and making an annual trek to Buffalo to attend a game with her son Gary. After moving from Batavia to North Carolina, she and Bill enjoyed traveling back to Batavia and to Cary, IL to visit children, grandchildren, and friends.

She was fortunate to see her grandson Christopher play many NCAA and more recently professional golf tournaments. And as recently as July 4^th, was able to attend the Ellicottville Rodeo to see her granddaughter Courtney perform her trick riding act and compete in many rodeo events.

She loved to watch Kimberly perform on stage and became a “super fan” for her grandson Connor during his high school football years. She enjoyed watching her two granddaughters Elizabeth and Courtney compete riding horses and watching her grandsons Grant and Brent play hockey (or just needling each other). There was never a visit to any of her children’s homes when a shopping trip was not on the agenda – she loved to shop – mostly for others! One of her favorite hobbies was knitting, and she made many blankets for each grandchild, friends’ children, and sweaters for herself and beanie hats for newborns at the hospital.  She even made a cherished blanket for a guinea pig!  Meryl also loved her miniature long-haired dachshund Minnie which kept her company after Bill’s passing. Perhaps her greatest love was her husband of 70 years, Bill. We will always remember the wedding dances where they were the last couple standing – they were the exemplary soulmates.

Meryl was preceded in death by her father Charles, mother Elizabeth, brother Richard and grandson Brent.

She is survived by daughter Suzanne (Steve) Green, grandchildren Christopher (Rachel) Green, Kimberly Green (Brian Janty), Connor Green, great granddaughter Emma Green, son Richard Schum & granddaughter Elizabeth Schum, son Gary Schum & grandchildren Grant & Courtney Schum.

  James C. Weber, 63, of Attica passed away on November 16, 2021.  He was born on January 10, 1958 in Buffalo to the late James R. and Patricia (Cunningham) Weber. In addition to his parents, James is predeceased by his brothers; Charles and Michael Weber; brother in law Greg Helm.  

Jim retired after 35 years as a Corrections Officer, spending the majority of those years at Wyoming Correctional Facility. Jim loved the outdoors, especially the Adirondacks where he enjoyed hiking, fishing, and camping with his family. He enjoyed spending his days with the love of his life, Diane, and his beloved dog, Millie, at their home which Jim referred to as their “little piece of heaven.” His greatest joy was the deep love he had for his family. He loved being a grandfather and doing everything with his best buddy, Zander. Jim loved talking to people and made everyone he was around feel like family, something he carried over to Gateway Home where he and Diane volunteered. He was known by many as the “wreath man,” making Christmas wreaths for over thirty years for craft shows and for family. 

He is survived by his beloved wife; Diane (Helm) Weber of Attica; children Kimberly (Christopher) Travale of Attica, Cory (Emily) Weber of Varysburg; siblings Bradley (Amy) Weber of Castile, Eileen Weber of NH; sister-in-law Darlynne Weber of Attica; brothers-in-law Neil (Mary) Helm of SC, Gary Helm of Varysburg, Jay Helm of Varysburg and Keith (Lori) Helm of PA; his grandson Zander Travale, along with several nieces and nephews.

LeRoy ~ Darlene R. Kaczmark (Hume) passed away due to complications of Covid, late Saturday afternoon, November 13, 2021.

  

   She is survived by her two sons, Robert Hume and Antonio Martinez Jr.; grandchildren, Antonio, Jade and Aniya Martinez, along with many sisters, brothers and cousins.

Daniel M. McJury, 66 of Lancaster, formerly of Batavia, passed away unexpectedly on Monday (November 15, 2021).

He was born February 18, 1955 in Batavia, NY, a son of the late Robert and Mary Jean Borst McJury.

Dan was a graduate of Notre Dame High School and attended Genesee Community College. He had a long career in the transportation and trucking industry; working his way up from a delivery driver with UPS and ending his career as the Regional Manager for Land, Air Express.

Dan was a caring and devoted brother, father, uncle and grandfather who loved to spend his time traveling and visiting with family.  He was a hard worker but always balanced work commitments and family life to be there for his children and family.  Dan will be missed by all who knew him and remembered fondly. 

Survivors include his children, Rebecca (Dr. Robert) Gouinlock of Attica, Patrick (Justine) McJury of Batavia and Matthew McJury of Batavia. Grandchildren, Elizabeth and William Gouinlock and Emma and John McJury. Siblings, Bob (Patricia) McJury of Victor, NY, Mary Beth (Dan) Riordan of Alexandria, VA, Ellen (Matt) Dooley of Vienna, VA, and Tom (Lori) McJury of Fairport, NY. Also survived by several nieces and nephews, and many caring friends.

Joan Shirley Fricano (nee Carr) of Amherst, NY, beloved wife, and cherished mother and grandmother, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 11, 2021. Joan was born in Batavia, NY, to Fred and Shirley Carr, and married for 49 years to her high school sweetheart Mike Fricano. They had three children, Michael, Melissa and Katie, all adopted from Seoul, South Korea.  

Joan was the glue of the family who brought everyone together and made taking care of everyone else, including the family's many pets, her favorite job. She would go on to form especially close bonds with her grandson, Alex Sniezak, and granddaughter, Mina Southard, and loved going to Disney World with them.

She is survived by her husband, children Michael, Melissa (Michael Southard) and Katie, grandchildren Alex and Mina, step-grandchild Kristin Southard, three brothers, one sister and many members of her extended family who miss her deeply.

  Bernard A. Buckenmeyer, 81 of Alexander, passed away on Friday, November 12, 2021, at the Grand Nursing and Rehabilitation in Batavia. He was born December 30, 1939 in Alexander to the late Charles J. and Margaret M. (Gilhooly) Buckenmeyer. He is preceded in death by granddaughter, Michelle G. Buckenmeyer, siblings, Charles (Violet) Buckenmeyer, Jr, George (Dorothy) Buckenmeyer, Elizabeth Buckenmeyer, Mary (Larry) Falkowski, Catherine Raines, Dorothy (Eddie) Moynihan, Lucy (Jim) Moag, Margaret (Jim) Hofmann.

Bernie owned and operated Buckenmeyer Brothers Dairy Farm in Alexander. He loved horses, rodeoing and farming. Bernie was one of the original starting members of the Attica Rodeo. Bernie is in the Notre Dame High School Hall of Fame for his exceptional talents in Basketball. He was always supportive in any adventure you did, a friend to all and he will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his beloved wife Geri (Heymans) Buckenmeyer, sons, Bernie Jr and Tim (partner Deb Barie), daughter Leigh (partner Bob Fuller); 6 grandchildren, Todd (partner Matthew) Buckenmeyer, Sara (partner Ray) Buckenmeyer, Cory (Alisha) Buckenmeyer, Darin (partner C.J.) Buckenmeyer, Adam (partner Abigail) Buckenmeyer, 3 great-grandchildren, Madison Eddy Peyson Foster and Lilia Alyce Buckenmeyer, brother Francis Buckenmeyer, brother-in-law Paul Raines, along with many nieces and nephews.

Lydia A. Fisher, 74, of Batavia, passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at her home.

Lydia was born on December 3, 1946, in Batavia, a daughter of the late Rudolph and Edna Yutzy Chupp. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Robert H. Fisher and her brother John Chupp.

Lydia worked for the Batavia City School District as a teacher’s aide. She was a big fan of the Batavia Muckdogs. Everything Lydia did, was for the joy and love of her grandchildren.

Lydia is survived by her children; Anne Fisher, Bob (Kristine) Fisher and Steven Fisher all of Tennessee, David (Rachel) Fisher of Batavia and Christine (Johnny) Thorpe of Texas; 10 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter; her siblings, Verda (late Michael) Rentschler, William (Sandy) Chupp, Elsie Beach, Jerry Chupp, Sylvanus (Donna) Chupp and Daniel Chupp. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Family and friends may call Friday, November 19, 2021, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the C. B. Beach & Son Mortuary, Inc., 4 East Main Street, Corfu, NY. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Akron, 122 Main Street, Akron, NY. Burial will follow in Alden Union Cemetery, Alden, NY.

Elaine M. Fuest, 65 of Bennington, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, November 13, 2021, after a valiant battle with cancer. Elaine was born in Buffalo, December 19, 1955 the daughter of the late Thaddeus & Clara (Blaszyk) Zola. She is preceded in death by her brother Robert Zola.

Elaine enjoyed playing Bingo and cards, especially pinochle and relaxing while reading romance novels. She had a passion for the outdoors, hiking, camping, fishing with family, waterfalls, photography and parks. Elaine was an animal lover, from horses to goats and golden retrievers. Her greatest joy was the deep love she had for her family.

Elaine is survived by her beloved husband, Francis E. Fuest Jr, her children, Brenda A. (Kevin) Rosel of Clarence, Francis J. Fuest of Batavia, Timothy J. Fuest of Bennington, granddaughter, Isabel Rosel of Clarence and brother Eugene P. Zola of Cave Junction, OR.

Friends are invited to call on Thursday, November 18, 2021 from 4 to 7 PM at Marley Funeral Home, LLC, 135 Main Street, Attica, NY 14011. A 10:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 19, 2021 at Sts. Joachim and Anne Parish, 50 East Ave, Attica, NY 14011. She will be laid to rest in St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Attica.
