Baseball: Antinore gem carried Norte Dame to 4-0 win over Oakfield-Alabama

Chase Antinore threw a complete-game shutout on Monday against Oakfield-Alabama, leading Notre Dame to a 4-0 win.

He gave up four hits, walked on hitter, and struck out five.

Avery Watterson also went the distance for O-A, giving up five hits and three earned runs while recording five strikeouts.

Irish offense:

Batavia played in Class B individual sectionals on Saturday.

Saturday's results:

  • Finn Halpin advanced to the State Qualifiers
  • Halpin defeated Jack Stanton (Pal-Mac)-10-0
  • Halpin defeated Nathaniel Chaffee (Penn Yan)-10-
  • Halpin lost to Jack Currin (Leroy) in semis, 10- 6
  • In a playback match, Halpin defeated Aidan Dallos 0-6, 6-0, 6-0. Halpin advances to state qualifiers
  • Talyn Kennedy defeated Brenyn Shulla (Newark)-10-2
  • Kennedy defeats Cole Snyder (Wayco)-10-7
  • Kennedy lost to Jack McLean (HFL) in qtrs-10-5
  • In playbacks, Kennedy lost to Aidan Dallos (Penn Yan)-10-4 (eliminated)

Sunday team results:

Batavia lost to Victor 7-0 to drop to 7-7 on the season.

Team sectionals on Monday. The team's final regular season match is on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at home vs. Greece Athena/Odyssey.

Flag Football: Defeats Churchville-Chili 26-0

Batavia defeated Churchville-Chili 26-0 on Monday night, avenging a road loss to Churchville two weeks ago.  

Senior defensive end Kylee Brennan was everywhere, tallying 10 flag pulls (4 for loss), two pass deflections, and an interception returned for a TD in the second half.  

Alyssa Turner (4 flag pulls) and Libby Grazioplene also snagged interceptions for the Lady Devils.  Lily Rodriguez and Nicole Doeringer each registered four flag pulls to help secure the shutout.

Quarterback Jaimin Macdonald led the Batavia offense to 19 first-half points, completing 10-17 passes for 111 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions.  Macdonald added 53 rushing yards on nine carries.  

Sophomore wideout Leilah Manuel finished with three receptions for 32 yards and 2 TDs (10 and 18 yards).  Kylee Brennan ran in a short pass from Macdonald from 9 yards out.  Alyssa Turner led the team in receiving with 45 yards on four receptions.  

Batavia is the #5 seed in Class C and will begin sectional play on Thursday.

Baseball: Batavia falls to HFL, 3-1

Honeoye Falls/Lima beat Batavia 3-1 on Monday.

Bronx Buchholz took the loss, going seven innings, giving up six hits and striking out nine.

Offense:

  • Brady Carney, 1-3, run scored
  • Brady Mazur, 1-2
  • Bronx Buchholz, 0-0, hit by pitch, two walks
  • Jameson Motyka, 1-4
  • Carter Mullen, 1-4

"Bronx kept us in the game tonight," said Coach  Michael Sputore."He was pretty effective the whole game. HFL put up an unearned run in the top of the 4th to get on the board, then two more in the top of the 7th with two outs.

"Batavia offensively left eight runners on base tonight. We just couldn't come through with big hit tonight. HFL pitching staff did a great job keeping our hitters off balance at the plate."

Batavia Now 8-7 overall and 5-2 in league play. The two teams meet again on Wednesday at 5 p.m. 

 

Muckdogs unveil 2025 promo schedule featuring fireworks, giveaways, theme nights, and fan favorites

The Batavia Muckdogs have officially released their 2025 promotional night schedule. This season the Muckdogs will have four fireworks shows- May 31, June 14, July 3, and 26, $1 Hotdog & $2 Beer Night return, various giveaways, and some new in-game promotions as well! 

This season, fireworks shows will be sponsored by Graham Corporation and Turnbull Heating & Air (Saturday, May 30), O-AT-KA Milk Products and Tompkins Bank (Saturday, June 14), Batavia Downs and Rochester Regional Health (Thursday, July 3), and HP Hood and Oak Orchard Health (Saturday, July 26). 

The Helicopter Candy Drop (sponsored by Pete Zeliff) will make a return on Saturday, June 7 vs Geneva. Bark in the Park (bring your dogs to the game!) and No Farms No Food Night (a night highlighting agriculture in our community presented by
Alleghany Farm Services) makes their return to Dwyer Stadium. 

The Muckdogs have also teamed up with local community leaders as well as this season will feature a YMCA Night (Genesee County), Military Appreciation Night (Presented by Geico – Local Batavia Office), Strike out Cancer Night (in partnership with Wilmot Cancer Institute), Stop DWI Night, and the regular season ends with a pet food drive on Saturday July 27 vs Jamestown. Baseball: Le Roy walks it off in seventh, beating O-A 4-3

Le Roy broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the seventh inning on Saturday to beat Oakfield-Alabama 4-3.

Peter Clark went all seven innings to get the win, striking out 11, giving up five hits, three earned runs and walking three.

For the Hornets, David Schnaufer went 6 1/3 innings, surrendering eight hits, four runs (three earned), and striking out 14.

Knight's Offense:

Softball: Oakfield-Alabama gets pair of wins over Pembroke

Oakfield-Alabama picked up two wins on Monday over Pembroke.

The first win was a 19-0 victory that was the resumption of a game the teams were unable to complete on May 1.  The Lady Hornets scored 11 runs in the seventh inning.

Allison Harkness got the win, going seven innings, giving up five hits and striking out seven. She was 2-4 at the plate with an RBI.

Hornet's offense:

  • Ysa Schrauger and Emma Moeller, 4-5 each with 3 RBIs
  • Allie Williams, 2-5, grand slam. 4 RBIs
  • Savannah Durham, Raine Denny and Rylee Denny each had 2 hits

In game two, O-A came from behind (down 7-5), scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth to win 9-7.

Harkness got the win in relief of starter Savannah Durham.

Offense:

  • Piper Hyde, 3-4,  2 RBIs
  • Allison Harkness, 2-4 RBI
  • Emma Moeller, 2-2, RBI
  • Allie Williams,  Rylee Denny and Chloe Lamb each had a hit and an RBI

Softball: Durham's one-hitter anchors 12-0 win for O-A over Elba

Behind a one-hitter (an infield single) by Oakfield-Alabama's Savannah Durham, the Hornets beat the Elba Lancers in Softball on Saturday, 12-0 in six innings.

Durham fanned eight hitters and didn't issue a walk. She was also 2-4 at the plate.

Hornets offense:

  • Piper Hyde, 4-4, home run, double, 4 RBIs
  • Allison Harkness, 3-4, 2 RBIs
  • Allie Williams, 3-4, triple
  • Ysa Schrauger, 1-3, 2 RBIs

The Hornets had 15 hits.

Softball: Notre Dame defeats Elba in extra innings

The Lady Irish defeated the Elba Lancers Friday night, 11-10. 

The Irish took a 7-0 lead into the 5th inning. The Lancers closed the gap with one run in the 5th and then proceeded to go on a scoring run in the 6th, flipping the advantage to a 10-7 lead over the Irish. 

Notre Dame battled back in the bottom of the 6th with a single by Amelia Sorochty and a double by Sofia Falleti, driving in the two runs needed to even the score out to 10-10 going into the 7th. 

Falleti turned a double play and then had a diving catch to seal all three outs in the top of the 7th. 

Amelia Sorochty scored the winning run in the 7th for the Irish and led the team, going 4-5 at the plate.

Mia Treleaven was the winning pitcher, giving up 11 hits and 10 runs (4 earned) while striking out 10. Bri Totten and Brea Smith led the Lancers, collecting two hits each. Smith took the loss, striking out eight and walking none.

Softball: Batavia wins second straight, 19-4

Batavia picked up its second straight win, improving to 5-9, on Saturday, with a 19-4 win over Honeoye.

Arianna Almekinder got the win in the five-inning game, surrendering only three hits and striking out eight.

Offense:

  • Libby Grazioplene, 3-3
  • Drew Stevens, 2-3, 3 RBIs, 2 doubles

Flag Football: Batavia ties Irondequoit 6-6

Batavia battled Irondequoit to a 6-6 tie Friday night.  

After going down 6-0 at halftime, junior RB Libby Grazioplene broke loose for a 17-yard rushing touchdown to even the score.  Grazioplene led the Lady Devils with 60 rushing yards on six carries.  

Quarterback Jaimin Macdonald finished with 100 yards from scrimmage, 54 through the air (10/26 passing) and 46 on the ground (seven carries).  Nicole Doeringer added 55 all-purpose yards on the night (44 rushing, 11 receiving).  Kylee Brennan led all Batavia receivers with 26 yards on four receptions.

Sophomore Leilah Manuel led the Batavia defense with 12 flag pulls.  Manuel also added two passes defended, one of which was tipped to Nicole Doeringer for an interception.  Doeringer added four flag pulls and a crucial sack that ended Irondequoit's final drive to end the game.  Kylee Brennan (10 flag pulls), Jaimin Macdonald (5 flag pulls), and Alyssa Turner (4 flag pulls and an interception) were all key to the defensive effort.

Batavia, now 5-3-1, will close out the regular season at home on Monday against Churchville-Chili.  

Tennis: O-A beats Kendall 4-1

Batavia beat Canandaigua 15-1 in softball on Friday, improving to 4-9 on the season.

The Lady Devils piled up 12 runs in the first two innings of a five-inning game.

Tennis: Lancers up on Bees 3-1

The Elba Lancers led the Byron-Bergen Bees 3-1 in tennis on Thursday.  

Jason Rowe lost in a three-set match to Riley Shallenburger after winning a first set tiebreaker, 7-5, followed by scores of 3-6, 3-6.  Alexa Ocampo won her match at second singles against Erron Kimble with a first-set score of 7-5, followed by a 3-6 second set and a 6-3 third set.  At third singles, Clara Torrey also won her match for the Lancers with a 6-0, 6-3 lead over Levi McGrath.  The Lancers' first doubles team of Alex Mendoza and Grace Koch beat Sara Bishop and Justin Gabehart 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 to round out the final win for Elba.  

The second doubles match could not be completed and ended with the Lancers trailing by one game at a score of 3-4.

Softball: Alexander rolls past Byron-Bergen 14-2

The Trojan offense piled up 10 hits and eight walks during Thursday’s chilly matchup against Byron-Bergen. 

Faith Goodenbury led the Trojans at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double, 2 RBIs, and two runs scored.  

Melissa Sawyer added in the box going 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs, 2 runs, a walk and a stolen base.  Ava Yax finished the day going 1-for-1 with a double, 2 walks, 3 runs, an RBI, and a stolen base.  Morgan Boyce went 1-for-3, driving in three runs with a run scored and a walk.  Lilly Szymkowiak went 1-for-2 with a double, 2 runs, a walk and a stolen base. Emily Pietrzykowski and Melanie each added a hit apiece to round out the Alexander offensive attack. Bump's hit was a 2-RBI double.  

Emily Pietrzykowski controlled the circle as the senior struck out 11 batters, limiting the Byron-Bergen offense. Pietrzykowski only allowed two hits and two runs (1 earned) over five innings while walking five.

Next up for Alexander is a doubleheader at Holley on Friday starting at 3:45pm.

Coach’s Comments:
"This was a solid win for us as we work to build momentum, picking up our second straight," said Coach John Goodenbury. "It's great to see our bats coming alive more each day. One of the best feelings as a coach is watching good hitters break out of slumps. We've had players making solid contact lately, just hitting it right at fielders. Today, we found the gaps and gained some confidence. We're ready for a packed final stretch and prepared to finish strong."

Oakfield-Alabama beat Lyndonville in baseball on Thursday, 11-0, in a game shortened to five innings.

Travis Chaya got the win, going all five innings, giving up two hits, no walks, and no runs, while striking out seven hitters, in his first varsity game. He was also 0-1 at the plate with a run scored. He was also hit by a pitch.

Offense:

Baseball: Hornets and Trojans combine for 23 runs

There were a lot of runs scored on Wednesday when Oakfield-Alabama and Alexander met for a sun-drenched baseball game in Oakfield.

The Hornets scored 12 runs to 11 for the Trojans.

OA also out-hit Alexander, 13-12.

Avery Watterson got the win, going six innings and giving up 11 hits and 10 runs, seven earned, while walking five and recording 10 strikeouts.

The game was called by Mercy Rule after the top of the fifth inning
